GLENDALE, Ariz. Jake Locker Jersey . -- The Phoenix Coyotes zipped around the ice, generating good scoring chances, getting into a scrap after a big hit, pumping in a goal late in the first period. It was just the kind of effort they needed against a team that had played the night before, particularly one thats ahead of them in the standings. Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored two goals, Thomas Greiss stopped 30 shots and the Coyotes kicked off an important five-game homestand with a 3-0 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night. "We caught a team at the right time, but that being said, I thought we played the right kind of game to take advantage of it," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. "We kept getting pucks deep, we put some pucks at the net and it was a pretty solid game throughout our lineup." The Coyotes needed to string together some victories during their homestand after a rough stretch dropped them to ninth in the Western Conference. They responded with arguably their best game of the season, playing solid in their own end while peppering Jonathan Quick with 29 shots. Antoine Vermette had a goal and an assist to extend his points streak to five games and Shane Doan had his 500th career assist on Ekman-Larssons second goal. That was more than enough for Greiss, who had his second shutout this season, third career. "It was a huge game for us," Ekman-Larsson said. "We talked about this game and I think we played well for 60 minutes." Los Angeles laboured after playing the night before and for the fourth time in six nights. The Kings also continued to struggle in the offensive zone. Los Angeles was relegated to the outside mostly in the first two periods and hit the post twice in the third, unable to get anything past Greiss. The Kings have scored two goals in their past four games and have lost six of seven. "Tonight, I dont know how many really good chances we had," Kings captain Dustin Brown said. "Probably a bit of them playing really well and us not being hungry enough to get to the dirty areas and if were going to score goals, thats what were going to have to get back to." The Coyotes have been tumbling down the Western Conference standings, losing seven of their past 10 games. They did rally from a 4-2 deficit to earn a point against Vancouver Sunday night behind Vermettes third career hat trick. Phoenix still had its offensive mojo going early against the Kings, creating some good chances and while getting traffic in front of Quick, who made some tough stops, including a sprawling save on Jeff Halpern. Ekman-Larsson broke through late in the first period, whipping a wrister from the point past Quick. A physical game between two rivals became even rougher in the second period, when Jordan Nolan levelled Kyle Chipchura with a shoulder, setting of a scrum along the boards. Phoenix got a power play out of it and scored 12 seconds into it, when Ekman-Larsson beat Quick with a slapshot just outside the faceoff circle. Greiss had a string of tough saves as the game opened up late in the second period and Vermette put it out of reach in the third, punching in a rebound for his team-leading 19th goal of the season. The Kings hit the post twice in the final period, but, as has been the case lately, the pucks caromed away instead of into the net. "Theres a team-wide frustration and a personal frustration for some guys in here," Brown said. NOTES: Vermette has six goals and two assists during his points streak. ... The Kings have scored three goals in their past 38 power play chances. ... Coyotes LW Paul Bissonnette received a 10-minute misconduct in the second period for throwing punches at Nolan after his hit on Chipchura. Nate Washington Jersey . The Browns have relaxed their media limitations to see rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel practice. Jason McCourty Jersey . Barrichello is thrilled to be racing in front of his Brazilian fans for the first time since joining IndyCar, but admits he still is adapting to the series and wont be racing among the leaders on Sunday.PHILADELPHIA - Adam Eaton hit a go-ahead double in the 18th inning as the Arizona Diamondbacks outlasted the Philadelphia Phillies 12-7 in a record-setting, marathon game for both clubs Saturday night. The teams combined to use 20 pitchers in a contest that ended at 2:12 a.m. and took 7 hours, 6 minutes — setting a mark for length of game for both teams. It was the longest game by time since the Dodgers and Astros played eight minutes longer on June 3, 1989. The 18 innings also matched the longest game in Diamondbacks history in terms of innings, though the Phillies fell short of the 21-inning club record set in 1918. The teams combined for 137 at-bats, 35 hits, 32 strikeouts and 28 walks. Both teams used 22 of their available 25 players, with only three starting pitchers for each going unused. The Phillies began the 18th with outfielder Casper Wells (0-1) on the mound. After retiring the first two batters, Wells walked Tony Campana to start Arizonas five-run inning. With Campana running, Eaton lined a double to left-centre to put Arizona in front 8-7. After Wells intentionally walked Paul Goldschmidt, Martin Prado drove in Eaton with a single to right to give the Diamondbacks a two-run advantage. Gerardo Parra broke the game open with a two-run single that spelled the end for Wells, who was replaced by another position player, infielder John McDonald. The Phillies couldnt score in the bottom of the frame off Trevor Cahill (5-10), who pitched four scoreless innings of relief. The series finale will be played Sunday less than 12 hours after Darin Ruf lined out for the final out. Prado homered and drove in three runs for the Diamondbacks, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Parra went 5-for-9 with three RBIs and Easton had four hits and drove in two runs. Roger Bernadina, Ruf and Carlos Ruiz homered for Philadelphia, which was vying for its fourth straight victory in walkoff fashion. The Phillies had several chances to do it in the extra innings. Tyler Cloyd, who pitched five scoreless innings of relief, led off the 16th with a double, just his second career hit in 23 at-bats. But the Phillies couldnt advance him. In the 14th, Ruf doubled with one out and wentt to third on a fielders choice, but Michael Young grounded out with a chance to win it. Nate Washington Elite Womens Jersey. In the 13th, Cloyd grounded out to strand the bases loaded. Arizona also had its chances after regulation. The Diamondbacks loaded the bases with two outs in the 12th, but Prado popped out, and Tuffy Gosewisch flew out in the 13th with runners on first and third. It looked as if it was going to be an easy victory for Arizona before Philadelphia rallied for four runs in the eighth. Ruf highlighted the frame, continuing his hot streak by homering in his third straight game and ninth time in August with a two-run shot that tied it at 7. The Phillies threatened in the ninth off Josh Collmenter when Young walked and went to second on a wild pitch with two outs. Collmenter then walked Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley to load the bases for John Mayberry Jr., but Collmenter struck Mayberry out. The Diamondbacks chased Phillies right-hander Ethan Martin in the first inning with three runs on three hits, highlighted by Prados two-run homer. Martin hadnt pitched shorter than 4 1-3 innings in any of his previous four major-league starts, but he was lifted with the bases loaded and two outs in the first after allowing three runs on three hits and three walks. Arizona tacked on a run in both the second and third innings and another in the fifth on Parras RBI single to jump out to a 6-0 advantage. Ruiz homered leading off the bottom of the frame to break up the no-hit bid of Randall Delgado, who allowed three runs on three hits in six innings. Notes: Phillies OF Domonic Brown left after playing the field in the second inning with right heel soreness. .. Arizona 2B Aaron Hill left in the seventh inning with mild groin tightness. . The Diamondbacks placed right-handed reliever J.J. Putz on the 15-day DL with a dislocated right pinky finger and recalled right-hander Chaz Roe from Triple-A Reno. Roe pitched 1 1/2 scoreless innings. . Arizona left-hander Patrick Corbin (13-3, 2.45) will face an undetermined opponent when the teams conclude their three-game series at 1:35 Sunday afternoon. Cloyd was supposed to make that start but was used as a reliever for five innings Saturday. ' ' '
