The Chicago Blackhawks added some needed support to their offensive cast Wednesday evening Tyson Alualu Jersey , by bringing in forward Michael Frolik and goaltender Alexander Salak from Florida. Frolik will be playing forward along side Brouwer and Kopecky, but rotating with Tomas at center. He should provide some fire power having racked up two 20 goal seasons in his only 2 in the pros. He still comes with questions about his ability to produce in key situations; which would just add to the current intensity level problems, especially squatting on a 23 game scoreless rut. Michael was drafted shortly after Jonathan Toews in 2006, and has proven himself to be an upgrade compared to Skille over his short NHL career.
This past season was the most ice time Jack had seen in his career up until this point; however he has barely gotten his numbers above his career highs. Skille has played in 49 games this season (16-career high) with 7 goals (3), 10 assists (2) and 17 points (5). The lack of production shouldn't be blamed on lack of effort or opportunities, but more so an inquiry on his progression and growth. Jack put up 121 shots thus far, barely setting a career high in goals through 4 limited seasons. This was not the kind of offensive production the Hawks were expecting.
Labeled as an offensive stud, Skille was selected 7th overall in the 2005 draft by Dale Tallon; ironically enough the two have been reunited in Florida. Jack and 2 minor leaguers (Hugh Jessiman & David Pacan) were expressed to Florida bringing in return an all-purpose offensive goal scorer and an engaging 24 year old goalie with an avant-garde style.
Salak has been known to be quick and flashy, occasionally coming back to bite to him; however they haven't to this point. Alex is considered the best goalie in the Swedish Elite League by maintaining a 2.04 GAA, along with 6 shutouts and saving over 90% of shots. It would be easy to say that this AHL all-star will be backing up Crawford next season, if not competing for his job.
In order for the Blackhawks to make a playoff run they will have to be firing on all cylinders. Frolik should add some skill to the depleted roster from the salary cap cuts of the post Stanley Cup champion season. Coach Q does a great job of managing players ice time in short bursts, which can benefit players stamina over the long season. If the Blackhawks can make a playoff run, look for Frolik to be a factor.
