TORONTO -- The CFL and its players will conduct their ratification votes on a new labour deal later this week. Clay Harbor Jaguars Jersey . Independent league sources requesting anonymity say the players will vote Thursday while the CFLs board of governors will do so Friday. The CFL and CFL Players Association agreed to a five-year contract Saturday. However, many players have spoken out against the new deal which calls for a $5-million salary cap, well below the CFLPAs opening demand of $6.24 million. The CFL also got a major concession from the union on the gross revenue formula that would trigger the renegotiation of the cap or entire collective agreement. The players, who initially wanted the CBA to include revenue sharing, had called for the cap or entire agreement to be renegotiated if league revenues increased by more than $18 million -- excluding the Grey Cup -- in the third year of the deal. The CFL wanted that figure to be $27 million and the union ultimately agreed. The union did get elimination of the option year on CFL contracts, excluding rookies. Also, the players practice day for the most part remains at 4.5 hours daily but can be increased to a maximum of six hours, and teams will hold just one padded practice a week during the season. A majority of players -- 50 per cent plus one -- on six of the nine CFL teams must support the deal for it to be accepted. If its rejected, that doesnt necessarily mean the players will go on strike. All clubs have held strike votes with most players reportedly in favour of going out. But TSN reports if the deal is turned down the CFLPA will notify the CFL and try kick-starting contract talks. The Senators had lost three straight in regulation before posting consecutive victories this week against Pittsburgh and Winnipeg. Ottawa had scored just two goals combined during the 0-3 stretch, but exploded for 14 scores over the two-game win streak. Ottawa enters today two points ahead of Buffalo and Washington for the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference. The Senators are also six behind Boston for the Northeast Division lead with five games left for both teams. The Bruins also play this afternoon against the New York Islanders. The Flyers have already clinched a playoff spot and are four points behind idle Pittsburgh for the fourth seed in the East. Philadelphia is also four points ahead of New Jersey for the conferences fifth spot and the Devils, who have four games remaining compared to the Flyers five, are scheduled to play tonight at Carolina. The Sens broke their three-game slide with an 8-4 win last Saturday against visiting Pittsburgh and Ottawa followed that victory with Mondays 6-4 decision in Winnipeg. Daniel Alfredsson scored two goals, including the game-winner with 2:33 to play in the third period, to lead the Senators past the Jets. Kyle Turris had a goal and an assist and Chris Neil, Milan Michalek and Kaspars Daugavins also scored for the Sens. Craig Anderson had 44 saves in the victory while Erik Karlsson finished with three assists and Jason Spezza added two helpers. Philadelphia is 21-12-5 as the host this year and will play three of its next four games at home before closing the season next Saturday in Pittsburgh. The Flyers beat Ottawa in the first two meetings between the clubs earlier this season, but the Senators answered back with a 6-4 home win on Jan. 8.
