Perez homered and drove in four runs and the Kansas City Royals rallied for a 10-7 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night. Perezs two-run double off Sergio�Santos in the Royals six-run eighth put the Royals ahead. Perezs four RBIs matched his career high. The Royals had scored only four runs in the eighth inning in their first 24 games. Perez, who has three consecutive multi-hit games, homered in the seventh with Alex�Gordon aboard to trim Torontos lead to 5-4. He was mired in a 1-for-29 skid before breaking out with seven hits in the past three games. "I see a couple of sliders and a couple of split-finger then they made a mistake on a fastball a little inside and up and I hit it pretty good," Perez said. The Royals sent 10 men to the plate in the eighth, which also included Omar�Infante driving in two runs after collecting six RBIs on Sunday. Nori Aoki and Jarrod�Dyson added RBI singles. "Thats the motto in here, never give up and always play like were in it," Dyson said. "You just need to scratch one, scratch two and we gained momentum and just took off from there. It was all momentum. Salvador put us back in there. That was the game-changer right there. We kind of knew we were coming back after that." Aaron�Crow (1-1), the third of four Royals pitchers, picked up the victory with a scoreless eighth inning and has not allowed an earned run while allowing only five hits in nine innings this season. Many of the hearings come as a result of the chippy Game 2 between the Ottawa Senators and New York Rangers. Senators defenceman Matt�Carkner had a 20-25 minute hearing�on Sunday for instigating a fight with a somewhat unsuspecting Brian�Boyle of the Rangers Saturday night. Rangers rookie forward Carl�Hagelin also had a�hearing on Sunday for elbowing Senators captain Daniel�Alfredsson in the head. Alfredsson left the game immediately after the hit and did not return. The New York Rangers wanted the league to examine Chris�Phillips shoulder check to the head of their captain, Ryan�Callahan, but no supplementary discipline is expected on the play. Meanwhile, Chicago Blackhawks forward Andrew�Shaw is also expected to have a hearing for clipping Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Mike�Smith in the head with his shoulder. Doumit fouled a ball off each foot before ripping a single to left, bringing home the tying and go-ahead runs. "It was a painful at-bat," he said, "but a good result." The Brewers were down two coaches, and that certainly affected their game protocol. Pitching coach Rick Kranitz and bullpen coach Lee Tunnell were both excused to attend graduations, and Rick Tomlin, normally the minor league pitching co-ordinator, filled in for Kranitz. "My fault. Miscommunication," Roenicke said. "Theres a certain way we do things, and when Kranitz isnt here, I didnt go back and tell Rick Tomlin who to get up and bring in. Its my fault." Scooter�Gennett made a brilliant backhanded stop on Jason�Heywards grounder and flipped the ball in one motion to the shortstop Segura, who came off the bag quickly to make a throw to first. That was too late to get Heyward, and the Brewers wound up with no outs on the play when Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez challenged the call. The replay showed Seguras foot came off the bag a split-second before he squeezed the ball in his glove. The Braves failed to take advantage of the overturned call. According to MASN.com, the Os have an agreement in place for a minor-league deal with left-hander Johan�Santana, who did not pitch in the majors last season, and last took the mound for the New York Mets during an injury- plagued 2012. Santana missed the entire 2011 season after originally tearing his pitching shoulder in September of the 2010 campaign. The four-time All Star, returned from his year-long absence to start the 2012 opener for New York, and on June 1 tossed the first no-hitter in Mets history, on a career-high 134 pitches. Accomplishing the feat seemed to have devastating after effects, as Santana went just 3-7 over his next 10 starts with an 8.27 earned run average. Battling ankle, back and shoulder issues, the Mets eventually shut him down for good in mid-August. Shortly after his arrival at last years spring training, Santana was diagnosed with left shoulder weakness. He had season-ending surgery to repair a torn anterior capsule in his pitching shoulder in late March. The Mets decided not to pick up the 2014 option on his contract. Since arriving in the majors during the 2000 season with Minnesota, the 34- year-old native of Venezuela has compiled a 139-78 record and 3.20 ERA in 360 appearances (284 starts). The Crew and FC Dallas held a moment of silence before their game, and fans held up signs in support of Tudor, who was off duty at the time of the strike. "Here, you have a man like that who saves lives on a regular basis, who comes out on his off day to see us play," Crew forward Justin Meram said. "For something like that to happen to him, were hoping for the best for him and his family." Dallas defender Zach Lloyd said he and his teammates were affected by the situation. "I know a lot of guys were thinking about his family and their well-being," he said. "That was tough for our group. I think we did a good job of refocusing for the game." Columbus Fire Department Battalion Chief Tracy Smith said its not known if Tudor was struck directly but he had to be resuscitated. Smith said it takes between two and three days to determine the effects of a possible lightning strike. "Were all in (Tudors) corner. Redd was a second-round pick out of Ohio State in 2000, 43rd overall, and he played 11 of his 12 seasons in Milwaukee. Two separate injuries to his left knee cost him large chunks of three straight seasons with the Bucks and he last played for Phoenix in 2011-12. He finishes his NBA career with 11,972 points (11,554 of them with Milwaukee) and a .447 per cent shooter, .380 from 3-point range. For Milwaukee, he averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Redd, a reserve on the 2003 All-Star team, reached the playoffs three times with the Bucks. NEW YORK � As the Blue Jays venture into Yankee Stadium for an important three-game series with their foes in pinstripes, there are a number of storylines to latch on to before considering who will take the mound for Toronto on Tuesday night. Ted Larsen Jersey . Its the first-place Blue Jays against the team closest to them in the American League East. Toronto enters the series with a four-and-a-half game lead on the Yankees. Its another chance, the second of what will be as many as six, to wave goodbye to New Yorks future Hall of Fame shortstop, Derek�Jeter. Here in New York, the dulcet voice of the late, great public address announcer, Bob Sheppard, brings No. 2 to the plate. Jose�Reyes is back in New York, too. He made his name over in Queens playing for the Mets. R.A.�Dickey is here but wont pitch. He won the Cy Young award two seasons ago on the other side of the city. Oh, and dont forget about the Blue Jays rookies mound opponent on this Tuesday: a rookie himself, technically, the Japanese phenom Masahiro Tanaka, whos dominated the early days of his major league career like he dominated for years back home. Then there is Marcus�Stroman. Its strange that this, essentially a homecoming for a young man raised in the Long Island town of Medford, is somewhat lost in the shuffle. Hes the 23-year-old who stunned general manager Alex Anthopoulos, blowing his bubble gum in the middle of his windup. The kid seems born for the spotlight, even if it will shine more brightly on others. "Im usually pretty good with dealing with things like that," Stroman said on Sunday. "I dont let anything get to me or get me overly excited or kind of get me out of my game. Im fine. Im in a good place mentally. I feel good going into it. I have kind of an off-day just to hang out with friends in the city and then it will be Game on Tuesday." Medford is a sleepy town, according to Stroman, more than an hour from New York City. Its closer to the upscale Hamptons, a drive of about 45 minutes. Medford has one high school, Patchogue-Medford High School, which Stroman attended before moving on to college at Duke University. The town will awaken this evening. Many of its inhabitants, in fact, will venture to Yankee Stadium to watch the hometown boy pitch. Stroman has purchased up to 70 tickets for close family and friends. He said hes been told by another 50 or 60 people theyve bought ducats. Hell have a throng of about 130 people here rooting him on. "Anytime you have an opportunity to pitch in front of a bunch of family and friends, its exciting," said Stroman. "I should have a lot of � a bunch of people texting me, bunch of friends from high school, college, a lot of people reaching out to me saying theyre going to be at the game so thats always exciting to pitch in front of people whove been there along the way." Stroman is 3-1 in his first year in the big leagues, 2-1 as a starter. Hes gone six innings in each of his first three starts, losing his last outing against the Twins. In two of those appearances, including the Minnesota defeat, he didnt walk a batter. He has impressed with his fastball. His breaking stuff, particularly his curveball, has baffled opposing hitters. Hes developing his changeup. Hes not developing confidence. He already has it. His coaches brag about it. "I certainly dont see him as a guy whos going to nibble and pitch around guys," said pitching coach Pete�Walker. "Hes definitely on the attack. His walks have been down and I would like to think that thats going to continue with him. He certainly trusts his stuff. Theres no doubt about that." Growing up, Stroman went to Yankees games at the old stadium and saw the Mets at Shea. He didnt cheer for either team. He admired players. Like most native New Yorkers, he watched Jeter in awe. Petr Cech (Chelsea) � �He is one of the best in the world,� said his manager Jose Mourinho this season. Not all that comes out of the mouth of Jose is correct, but it is hard to argue with Cechs incredible consistency. Prone to a high-profile error now and then, he, perhaps, will never be seen as reaching the real elite level of all-time goalkeepers, but he had been outstanding for Chelseas new-look tight defence this season. The best goalkeeper in the Premier League, according to the panel. 29. Romelu Lukaku (Everton) � Lukaku didnt score as many goals this season for Everton as he did for West Brom last season, but his second successive loan campaign was very successful. The Belgian simply grew as a player under Roberto Martinez, linking up better with teammates and playing any role that was asked of him by his manager. This was never more apparent than at home to Arsenal last month when his lethal runs from out wide showed his maturation as a forward and caused many problems for the opposing defence. 28. Gareth Barry (Everton) � Last August, Martinez knocked on Barrys door and wanted a chat. In his living room, he convinced the Englishman to come to Everton and be a part of his new-look Toffees. Barry was the perfect player for Martinezs system, allowing the full backs to push on, knowing a defensive-minded, ball-playing central midfielder can drop deep and split the centre-backs. The Spanish manager has raved about him all season and, unlike Lukaku, looks likely to turn the loan into a full-time move this summer. 27. Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle) � Cabaye left for PSG at the end of January, but hhad left his stamp on the Premier League, guiding Newcastle to safety and allowing the club to be one of the worst in the league since and not lose their top-10 status. The French midfielder was a true difference maker at St James Park, happy to play in the deep-lying playmaker role where he tore teams to shreds or, as he did at Old Trafford, just off the striker where he was equally effective. A Brilliant passer and set-piece taker, Cabaye isnt just missed by Newcastle fans, the Premier League misses him, too. 26. Branislav Ivanovic (Chelsea) � Simply one of the most underappreciated talents in the league.� Playing for such a big club, in a high-profile league, it really is quite remarkable how little attention Ivanovic gets. The Serbian has been brilliant this season and has improved considerably as a right back under Mourinho, where he isnt required to make too many inroads into the opponents final third. At centre-back, he might be even better and he was absolutely magnificent in Chelseas 2-0 win at Liverpool last month. 25. Per Mertesacker (Arsenal) � One of the most improved players of the season, although, he was excellent in the second half of last season, also. Mertesacker has been a great mentor to Laurent Koscielny and the two have formed a strong partnership in central defence. The German also brings something to Arsenal that is very important � a winning mentality. He knows what it takes to get to a level that the Gunners remain too far away from. Far too many empty promises come from that dressing room and sidelines, but Mertesacker is not guilty of any of them. Easy to look at his performances in those away thrashings and question his spot but collectively Arsenal were pathetic on those days. 24. Vincent Kompany (Man City) � Not a vintage year for the captain of Man City, where too many mistakes led to goals and red cards, however, Kompany continues to be one of the games finest defenders, who makes players around him better. At the moment, he is the face of the team, but if they want to progress to to the level of a true European powerhouse, they need to find at least one centre-back who is even better than the Belgian. 23. Samir Nasri (Man City) � The Frenchman had lost his way under Roberto Mancini and the Italian manager told the media that �he was wasting his talent. Frustrated at a lack of playing time and his narrow system, Nasri was unleashed by new manager Manuel Pellegrini and has had a great season at the Etihad. City are blessed with playmakers behind their strikers, who have an appreciation of space and can pick key passes in and around the box. Nasri is no David Silva, but he is now a star on whom City can rely heavily. 22. Mile Jedinak (Crystal Palace) � Every season a player is promoted and then makes a name for himself by becoming such an important member of a team that stays up. Last season, it was Southamptons Morgan Schneiderlin, who led all players in tackles and interceptions. This season it is Jedinak who, remarkably, leads all players (who started more than 58 per cent of games) in those categories. The Aussie has been the heartbeat of a Crystal Palace team that was on life support in November. Throughout their struggles he was excellent and was even better when they molded into a solid team, around him, under Tony Pulis. It was a fitting moment that Jedinak scored the penalty at West Ham that won the game 1-0 and assured the Eagles of another year in the top flight. 21. Ross Barkley (Everton) - With all due respect to Eden Hazard, the PFA Young Player of the Year Award was made for a player like Barkley. Few had heard about the midfielder this time last year and the Scouser had a breakthrough campaign, playing with a youthful energy that helps him glide by opponents on the ball with an arrogant swagger not seen enough by a young Englishman since Paul Gascoigne.� He is, however, more than just an attacking midfielder who can score spectacular goals, as he isnt afraid to get involved in the physical side of the game, much like Steven Gerrard was at his age. The hype machine could develop quickly with those comparisons, but he has a manager and a club that will keep him grounded for now. Itll be a crime if he isnt named in Roy Hodgsons squad for Brazil. MADISON, Wis. Steve Young 49ers Jersey . -- Eastern Kentucky thrives off creating havoc for others. Colonels coach Jeff Neubauer acknowledged thats not the best plan of attack against No. 4 Wisconsin. Ben Brust scored 20 points and Wisconsin shot a season-best 60 per cent from the field in beating the Colonels 86-61 on Saturday. The Colonels force 18 turnovers a game, including an average of 11 steals. While Wisconsin committed 11 turnovers, two more than its season average, it wasnt nearly enough to offset the Badgers shooting performance, particularly from the free throw line. "Weve been very effective at creating bad decisions by other teams, and today we werent able to do it," Neubauer said. The Badgers (12-0) are off to their best start to a season since 1915-16, when they started 12-0 and finished 20-1. They are in The Associated Press top 5 for only the second time in school history. They now get two weeks off for finals and the holidays before one last tuneup heading into Big Ten play. Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan isnt ready to talk about this seasons team being special but he couldnt help but be impressed at least a little with what the Badgers did by holding Eastern Kentucky to 33 per cent shooting in the first half. "Im telling you, weve got this team on tape, on DVD, and theyre a much better shooting team than this. So youve got to give our guys credit for what they did defensively," Ryan said. Brust said a preseason trip to play in Canada combined with the two extra weeks of practice this year helped the Badgers mould a roster that include contributors across all four classes. "Weve got a lot of pieces, and its coming together nicely. But weve got a lot of work to do," Brust said. The Badgers made a living on free throws and 3-pointers in a game that wasnt close after the opening minutes. Averaging 21 free throws a game coming in, they went 25 of 33 from the free throw line -- led by freshman Nigel Hayes going 13 of 17 -- as the undersized Colonels (7-4) committed 26 fouls. The Badgers finished 9 of 15 from beyond the 3-point line with Brust making five, two short of his school record. Wisconsin used a 10-0 run in the first half featuring two 3-pointers by Brust to take control early and then continued to gradually pull away. The Badgers first got the lead to 20 points with just over 2 minutes left in the first half and to 30 just past midway through the second half on a layup by Hayes. Wisconsin shot a season-best 60 per cent from the field. "At the offensive end, it felt like they made every shot," Neubauer said. Hayes scored a career-high 17 points for the Badgers, while Sam Dekker added 16 and Frank Kaminsky shrugged off a right foot injury that hampered him this week to add 13. Glenn Cosey scored 21 points to lead the Colonels, while Orlando Williams added 13. The Colonels, who start four guards and a forward, started the game at a physical disadvantage that was exacerbated by their early foul trouble. Starting forward Eric Stutz was whistled for his second foul less than 8 minutes into the game. But Neubauer brought him back in after a brief rest only to see him whistled for his third a few minutes later. In all, Eastern Kentucky committed 16 fouls in the first half with three starters whistled for at least two, while reserves Timmy Knipp and Jef Johnson both committed three. Things got marginally better in the second half. But the Colonels were still whistled for 26 fouls overall, though no player ended up fouling out. BOCA RATON, Florida - NHL GMs took part of the final day of meetings in Boca Raton, Florida to discuss the annual combine that runs in late May prior to the NHL entry draft in June. Antonio Gates . The event puts invited prospects through a serious of fitness tests and allows teams to interview targeted prospects to gain a further understanding into their psychological makeup. But some teams have run team specific combines in the past to further evaluate prospects, which has been seen by several teams as an unfair competitive advantage. As a result, the NHL is contemplating placing limits and restrictions on the amount of players that teams can assemble for further testing. "There was a discussion about that," said Commissioner Gary Bettman. "A change like that would require Board of Governor approval but I think that there was a sense in the room that it might be a good idea." Buffalo Sabres GM Tim Murray was the loudest proponent against these limitations. For the past three years, the Sabres have held their own combine; this past year bringing in over 75 players for a four day period for interviews and on ice work. "I come from a scouting background," said Murray, who has held scouting positions with the Florida Panthers, Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers. "I dont want to criticize the combine we have but I want to be able to supplement that with what I want to do. Im looking for athletes and there are certain tests (that we feel are important) versus strength tests." But despite his instance, Murray had little success in persuading his colleagues. "Some of the veteran guys said you fought a great battle but it was a losing battle," said Murray, who is the shortest tenured GM in the NHL right now. "It looks like the majority want to streamline it to one combine and not allow us guys that feel that doing a little more is a benefit.
