Pashos missed four of the last five games with a hip flexor and has been limited in practice this week while splitting reps with rookie Menelik�Watson. Coach Dennis Allen, however, hinted that Pashos likely will start and Pashos later confirmed it. That would be a big boost for the Raiders, who have allowed 36 sacks this season and will be facing one of the leagues premier pass-rushers in Texans defensive end J.J.�Watt. "Hes as advertised," Pashos said Thursday. "For such a young guy, hes doing a lot of great things in this league. You have to be on youre A game. You have to be at your best." Oaklands offensive line has been banged up since training camp when starting left tackle Jared�Veldheer suffered a torn triceps and was placed on the designated to return/injured reserve list. Veldheer practiced this week for the first time since then but has yet to be activated to the 53-man roster. Centre Stefen�Wisniewski has also missed time while injured, as has his backup and one-time starting left guard Andre�Gurode. Pashos, who signed with the team six days before the season opener, just shook his head. "Weve been plugging and going and guys have answered the bell," said Pashos. "We were warming up tight ends at right tackle, so think about that. (Offensive line coach Tony Sparano) has done an unreal job and still does it to this day." The Raiders have had three different players start at right tackle, including Pashos, Watson and undrafted rookie Matt�McCants. Khalif�Barnes was penciled in as the starter before the season but was moved to left tackle after Veldheer got hurt. Oakland has had a bit of a revolving door on the right side since then. Pashos started the first four games before his injury. The umps went 3 for 3 on Monday as MLB tried out the new format at three spring training games. The first test came at 3:06 p.m. EST in Fort Myers, Fla., after first base umpire Fieldin Culbreth ruled Toronto shortstop Munenori�Kawasakis throw pulled Jared�Goedert off the bag in the sixth inning. "Im not too sure that youre not right here," Culbreth said Blue Jays manager John Gibbons told him, "but since we havent done it before, lets go take a look." Culbreth answered: "OK. Thats what its for." After 2 minutes, 34 seconds, replay umpire Brian ONora relayed his call by headset, confirming that Minnesota batter Chris Rahl was safe. During the wait, Rahl said he realized he perhaps was part of history. "Its kind of funny. I was thinking, Is this the first one?" he said. ONora made the final ruling from a satellite truck outside the stadium. During the regular season, umpires on the field will check with the replay booth in New York, where an MLB umpire will make the final call. Later in the game, Culbreth rotated and took a turn in the truck, confirming another safe call at first base. "Im looking at this thing as, this is the future of the game. And Im going to treat these games here the same way that Im going to treat them during the regular season," Culbreth said. In the eighth inning, Doug�Bernier of the Twins was called safe on a close play at first. As Culbreth studied the replay, the ballpark sound system played a Rolling Stones song with the familiar lyric, "I cant get no satisfaction." The call was confirmed, Bernier was safe. Extra replay also was in place for two games in Arizona -- the Los Angeles Angels vs. Arizona Diamondbacks in Scottsdale and the Chicago Cubs against Milwaukee in Phoenix. If the first challenge is successful, the manager gets a second. From the seventh inning on, if the manager is out of challenges, the umpire can decide to have the play reviewed. Some critics of expanded replay worried that challenges would delay the game too much. Culbreth said he didnt think that would be a problem, and pointed at the benefits. "It will work itself out. I think time really isnt going to be an issue in the end," he said. "And if it is, its about getting the play right in the end, anyhow." ' ' '

Just when Atlanta seemed almost incapable of winning a road game, Korver and Millsap broke the hearts of the fans that cheered them for years to finally help the Hawks break through. Korver scored 26 points and Millsap added 23 against their former team as the Hawks outlasted the Utah Jazz 112-110 on Monday night to snap a six-game losing streak. Millsap said there were times were he almost felt like he wasnt playing on the road "I played in this gym for seven years. I felt real comfortable," he said after helping the Hawks end a 10-game road losing streak. Most of the Atlanta starting lineup spent significant time playing for the Jazz. DeMarre�Carroll (2011-13), Korver (2007-10) and Millsap (2006-13) all received warm applause when they were introduced before the game. "It was like a reunion, a family reunion. I saw a lot of familiar faces," Millsap said. But familiarity didnt make it a cakewalk. Korver made all four of his 3-point attempts in his old stomping grounds but never felt totally safe. The Hawks blew a 17-point lead and it was like re-run Korver had seen dozens of times. But after that goal that was scored on Saturday night, many general managers said could you imagine if the Stanley Cup was decided on a goal like that. When this incident happened last season, Melnyk said that he believed in his heart that Cooke had malice and intentionally severed the tendon of Erik�Karlsson. "We had an incident in January that was hard to describe. It is what it is. We have to continue to try and find ways to win games." Tortorella was suspended for 15 days and six games for trying to enter the Flames locker-room after a first-period brawl in a testy Jan. 18 game. The Canucks are 4-12-1 since that night. Dating to Jan. 1, Vancouver is 6-17-3 and has fallen from one point out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference to six. Gillis called the drastic downturn this year indescribable. "The ebb and flow in this season has been as challenging as its ever been," he said. "Theres reasons for it � multiple reasons for it � but currently, right now, were not meeting my expectations, were not meeting a lot of peoples expectations and that has to change." That includes Tortorella, a Stanley Cup-winner 10 years ago who has become embattled after the trade of Roberto�Luongo, request from Ryan�Kesler to be dealt and then Monday nights embarrassing loss to the New York Islanders. NEW YORK, N. Colin McCarthy Jersey .Y. - The troubled tenure of Jorge Vergara and Angelica Fuentes as owners of Chivas USA has ended with Major League Soccer purchasing the team. MLS said Thursday it had assumed operation of the team, which had the second-worst record in the league last year at 6-20-8 and averaged a league-low attendance of 8,366 at home. Vergara and Fuentes have controlled the Mexican club Chivas Guadalajara since 2002 and had a 50 per cent interest in Chivas USA when it was created in 2004 and started play the following year. The pair took operating control of Chivas USA in August 2012 when they bought out former partners Antonio and Lorenzo Cue, who had been running the team. "The original plan which we came up with in 2004 and executed in 05 was to extend one of soccers most venerable brands into the United States," MLS Commissioner Don Garber said during a conference call. "The concept was to take a team that in essence represented the hopes and dreams of Mexican soccer fans both in Mexico and the United States and try to extend that here to the United States. "Ultimately the concept didnt work out," he added. "I came up with the idea with folks here at the league. I dont believe it was the concept as much as there was some executional issues." The concept of a league owning a team is not unprecedented. An entity owned by Major League Baseball bought the Montreal Expos in 2002, moved the club to Washington, D.C., for the 2005 season and sold it to the Lerner family the following year. The NHL had operational control of the Phoenix Coyotes from 2009-13. MLS said Wilmer Cabrera, hired as coach on Jan. 9, will remain on the job. The league said it will sell the team to an ownership group committed to keeping the team in the Los Angeles area. Garber hopes to have a deal in place by the end of the year. "Sometimes it takes time to get this done. Were not in a rush," Garber said. Garber said the new ownership group must intend to build a new stadium, and he mentioned the site of the L.A. Sports Arena as a possibility. Chivas USA shares the StubHub Center with the Los Angeles Galaxy. David Beckham was not considered a possible buyer. The former Galaxy star exercised his option to purchase an expansion team in Miami. "I wonder if he would have thought differently if his option execution date was a year from now versus a year ago," Garber said. The team will use the Chivas USA name this year, then will get a new name and logo along with new owners. "When Angelica and I gained full operational control of the team for the first time 15 months ago, we were hopeful we would be able to turn it around," Vergara said in a statement. "However, there is only one Chivas de Guadalajara, and we have realized that it will require more time, further resources, and a level of commitment that would divert too much of our focus from our other business interests."
