TORONTO - The World Boxing Council has ordered immediate negotiations between Canadas Bermane Stiverne and Chris Arreola of the United States to fight for the vacant WBC heavyweight title. Kawann Short Jersey . Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KOs), a Haitian-born boxer who was raised in Montreal, is the No. 1-ranked contender for the title, which was vacated on Monday by Vitali Klitschko so he could focus on his presidential campaign in his native Ukraine. Arreola (36-3) is the second-ranked contender. The two fighters met April 27 in Ontario, Calif., with Stiverne winning in a lopsided unanimous decision. Klitschko has been named a "Champion Emeritus" by the WBC, a move that would allow him to challenge the new champion directly should he wish to resume his career. Trai Turner Womens Jersey . The Kings were beaten on a goal by LoganCouture after the Sharks played the entire 89 seconds of overtime on the power play. The Kings were received penalties for both hooking and goaltender interference in the final minute of regulation play. Byron Bell Womens Jersey . Greg Chase and Kenton Helgesen also scored for the Hitmen (18-7-4), who extended their win streak to five games, while Brady Brassart chipped in with two assists.PORTLAND, Ore. - Taylor Leier scored in overtime as the Portland Winterhawks came from behind to defeat the visiting Kelowna Rockets 4-3 on Tuesday in Western Hockey League playoff action. The Winterhawks, who trailed 3-1 late in the third period, put 65 shots on net before Leier scored the winner on Kelownas Jordon Cooke at the 10-minute mark of extra time. Oliver Bjorkstrand had a pair of goals for Portland, which leads the best-of-seven series 2-1, and Brendan Leipsic forced overtime when he scored at 18:42 of the third. Riley Stadel, Colten Martin and Ryan Olsen supplied the scoring for the Rockets. Corbin Boes made 30 saves for the Winterhawwks while Cooke turned away 61 shots for Kelowna. Derek Anderson Jersey. Portland will host Game 4 of the Western Conference final on Wednesday. --- TIGERS 2 OIL KINGS 1 MEDICINE HAT, Alta. -- Marek Langhamer stopped 43 shots, including all 14 his way in the third period, as the Tigers hung on to beat Edmonton in Game 3. Tommy Vannelli put the Tigers on the board at 6:25 of the first period while Dylan Bredo scored what turned out to be the winner at 17:22 of the second. Curtis Lazar opened the scoring for the Oil Kings, who lead the best-of-seven Eastern Conference final 2-1. The Los Angeles Kings won their second Stanley Cup in three years and have a core in place to contend for the forseeable future. Julius Peppers Jersey . Off-Season Game Plan looks at a Kings roster that might have some tweaking around the edges, but wont have to make dramatic changes in order to be a Cup contender again next season. Since winning their first Stanley Cup, in 2012, the Kings have been the leagues best puck possession team, carrying the play at even strength to the tune of nearly 57% possession in the past two seasons. Thats dominant stuff. Possession alone doesnt assure success because, as the Kings have found at times, actual goals are required to wins games and sometimes those dont come so easily. But, the Kings have enough guys with scoring pedigree, so even if DustinBrown and JustinWilliams arent scoring at usual rates, maybe its TylerToffoli or TannerPearson or MarianGaborik that fills the offensive void. In the case of the playoffs, they all contributed and that was enough for the Kings to get crowned. Thats not to suggest it was easy. Winning three seven-game series and three overtime games in the Final requires a certain amount of good fortune to be smiling down on the team, but that was also a Murderers Row for the Kings to face in the Western Conference playoffs. The Boston Bruins were the only team in the league with fewer regulation losses than the Sharks, Ducks and Blackhawks, so any team going through that opposition needs a favourable bounce or two. But theres a reason that the Kings are in position to take advantage of those bounces and that goes back to their dominant puck possession and a team that has skill, size and skating throughout the lineup. Maybe the Kings will make a move or two in the offseason. Bringing back Gaborik would seem to be a priority, and there are a couple of free agent defencemen whose status needs to be addressed, but this is a team built to win now and, with a solid group of young players, theyre built to keep winning in the future. The TSN.ca Rating is an efficiency rating based on per-game statistics including goals and assists -- weighted for strength (ie. power play, even, shorthanded) -- Corsi, adjusted for zone starts, quality of competition and quality of teammates, hits, blocked shots, penalty differential and faceoffs. Generally, a replacement-level player is around a 60, a top six forward and top four defenceman will be around 70, stars will be over 80 and MVP candidates could go over 90. SidneyCrosby finished at the top of the 2013-2014 regular season ratings at 87.12. Salary cap information all comes from the indispensable www.capgeek.com. Since 2009-2010, he ranks 11th in the league with 342 points, to go with elite puck possession numbers. The 26-year-old has won two Stanley Cups, leading the playoffs in scoring in both of those seasons, and is likely among the top handful of all-around players in the sport. Hes also missed eight games, total, in the past seven seasons. Since 2008-2009, JeffCarter ranks sixth in the NHL with 189 goals, and his arrival in Los Angeles elevated the Kings into the championship tier. On the way to this latest Cup win, Carter frequently skated between rookies TannerPearson and TylerToffoli, and the line was so effective that there are high hopes for what they might be able to do over a full season. Conn Smythe Trophy winner JustinWilliams had an outstanding playoff run, but hes been an exceptional puck possession player since arriving in Los Angeles and his playoff production offset what was really an underwhelming regular season; his 0.52 points per game was the second-lowest since his rookie year. Even after a good showing in the 2013 playoffs, TylerToffoli started last season in the AHL, scoring 15 goals and 23 points in 18 games before getting recalled. Hes fit right in to the Kings puck possession game and, with improved skating and a quick release on his shot, Toffoli has the offensive skills to be a big contributor. It was a tough season for team captain DustinBrown, whose 27 points were his fewest in a season since his 31-game rookie year in 2003-2004. His hit totals were down and his 15:50 average time on ice per game was his lowest since 2005-2006. And yet, by the end of the playoffs, he was back on Kopitars wing and scored eight points in the last eight playoff games. Browns new contract, which runs for eight years, kicks in next season and the Kings had better hope that Brown can get back to being a productive scorer for at least a portion of those years. The 30th pick in the 2012 Draft, TannerPearson had 79 points in 105 AHL games then worked his way up the Kings depth chart, playing fourth-line minutes before he ended up with Carter and Toffoli, using his speed to create opportunities. Getting notable contributions from Pearson and Toffoli, on inexpensive rookie deals, allows the Kings more flexibility when it comes to signing others. Declining productitivity resulted in MikeRichards getting demoted to the Kings fourth line at times during the playoffs, which sends him into the offseason with questions about his status because his contract has six years left and, unless there is a sudden reversal, the next six years for Richards could be trouble. In some circumstances, Richards might be a buyout candidate, but he likely has enough of a reputation that he could be traded if the Kings are looking to create room under the cap. A reliable two-way player who has missed eight games in the past four seasons, JarretStoll is a consistent physical presence who has won nearly 56% of his faceoffs over the past five seasons, yet his time on ice (15:52) was his lowest since his rookie season, 2003-2004. There arent many forwards that play as much as TrevorLewis, yet score so rarely, but he consistently generates positive possession stats, making him a useful checker in the Kings bottom six. JordanNolan provides a physical presence on the fourth line, though he was bumped out of the lineup for all but three games in the postseason. Nolan has 20 points in 134 career games, which is easily replaceable, yet hes also an inexpensive depth option for the Kings. In four NHL seasons, KyleClifford has fought 42 times and scored 48 points (22 G, 26 A) with positive possession stats in 276 games. He was a regular in the lineup during the run to the Stanley Cup and was terrific in the final series, scoring four points in five games and Clifford was a standout in the deciding game. Can the 23-year-old produce enough to take on a bigger role? DwightKing had something of a breakthrough season, scoring a career-high 30 points, spending significant time on the first line, which led to his stellar possession stats. Hes not a first-line type of player, but as a physical third-line winger who can chip in offensively, King fits the bill. MarianGaboriks impressive production -- 19 goals, 38 points in 45 (regular season plus playoff) games -- after he was acquired at the trade deadline should earn him a good contract as a free agent and the Kings are likely interested in retaining his services, but if they cant keep Gaborik, the Kings could also dip in for other marquee free agents, whether thats PaulStastny, MattMoulson, MikeCammalleri, AlesHemsky or others. In the Kings two Stanley Cup runs, Doughty has put his full game on display, playing big minutes against tough opponents and simultaneously producing offensively. He can skate, hit and has seemingly boundless confidence in his ability, which serves him well most of the time. JakeMuzzin has been positively remarkable in terms of puck possession over the past couple seasons and while he started on the Kings third pairing, he finished the year alongside Doughty, and acquitted himself well. So, just like that, 25-year-old Muzzin is a top pair defenceman, with good size and a good shot from the point. Not bad for an undrafted free agent out of junior hockey. Even before he scored the Stanley-Cup-winning goal, AlecMartinez had something of a breakout campaign, scoring 11 goals during the regular season -- an amazing rate for a guy getting less than 16 minutes of ice time per game. While he tends to play easier minutes, Martinez has consistently put up good possession numbers. Playing more than 22 minutes per game for the past couple seasons, SlavaVoynov has solid possession numbers and his 59 points over those two seasons puts him in a six-way tie for 28th among defencemen, with a group that includes Doughty, ZdenoChara and DionPhaneuf. Thats good, and the 24-year-old probably has more to give as he matures. RobynRegehr has clearly lost a step, which isnt unusual fora 34-year-old that has spent many years matched up against the oppositions best forwards, but he had his role cut back and was injured in the playoffs, playing only eight of the Kings 26 games. With WillieMitchell and MattGreene headed for unrestricted free agency, Regehr does offer some insurance as a physical, stay-at-home defenceman. If both Greene and Mitchell head elsewhere, that would open up some holes on the blueline, but BraydenMcNabb, a prospect acquired from Buffalo, should have a shot to earn one spot on the blueline and there shouldnt be great difficulty finding a veteran defenceman that would be interested in playing with this group. Since having back surgery following the Kings 2012 Cup, Quick has a .910 save percentage during the regular season, ranking 26th out of 33 goaltenders to play in at least 50 games over that span. With Quick signed through 2023, the Kings could really use him getting back to his previous form, but theyre such a dominant possession team that they dont need Quick to be great in order to win.. When the Kings dealt BenScrivens to Edmonton, that opened up a spot for MartinJones, who excelled when Quick was hurt in December. The 24-year-old, who was undrafted out of junior, has great size and should be able to handle a decent workload as Quicks backup. Top Prospects Player Pos. Drafted in the second round last summer, ValentinZykov is a big winger who can score, but needs time to improve his skating before he challenges for a spot with the Kings. Given the development of Pearson and Toffoli in that regard, it seems reasonable to have hopes Zykov can achieve similar improvement. A fourth-round pick in 2009, LindenVey has produced in the AHL, scoring 115 points in 117 games over the past two seasons, and did get into 18 games with the Kings last season. He needs to get stronger, but could have a chance to challenge for a job if the Kings have any turnover up front. Taken with the 15th pick in 2010, DerekForbort has been slow developing, but the 6-foot-4 defensive defenceman moves well and could put himself in consideration for promotion with improved passing and puck skills. Picked in the third round in 2011, NickShore had a sold, if unspectacular, first pro season after three years at Denver University. If he continues to progress next season, hell be closing in on a shot at the NHL. A big forward who gets to the net to score goals, MichaelMersch was a fourth-round pick in 2011 and scored 45 goals in 79 games over his last two seasons at Wisconsin. He had four points in 11 (regular season plus playoff) games with Manchester of the AHL after his collegiate season finished. Alabama native is a big centre, drafted in the seventh round in 2009, NicDowd wrapped up a productive career at St. Cloud State, scoing 79 points (36 G, 43 A) in 80 games over his junior and senior seasons, before adding four points in 11 (regular season plus playoff) games with Manchester. While the Kings load up on big forwards, JordanWeal is on the small side, but there is no ignoring his production -- 198 points in his last two years of junior or 70 points in 76 AHL games last season -- so the 22-year-old has to be on the Kings radar. A defensive defenceman with good size, KevinGravel played four years at St. Cloud State after he was a fifth-round pick of the Kings in 2010. Selected in the fourth round of the 2012 Draft, Nikolai Prokhorkin is plying his trade in Russia, but after a very productive year, leading his team in scoring, hes one to watch with significant upside should he decide to come to North America. Picked in the fifth round last summer, JonnyBrodzinski is something of a late bloomer who has scored 43 goals and 74 points in 80 games for St. Cloud State. A fifth-round selection last summer, PatrikBartosak put up great numbers -- including a .929 save percentage in 120 games played -- over the past couple seasons in the WHL, and played well in four late-season AHL games. Lets see what he does with a couple of years of pro development. Kings advanced stats and player usage chart from Extra Skater DRAFT 29th - Nikolay Goldobin, Nikita Scherbak, Brayden Point. Darrun Hilliard and Ryan Arcidiacono led the charge from outside, while JayVaughn Pinkston cleaned up the interior. It was all business for the sixth-ranked Wildcats. Now they can move on to their Big East showdown with Creighton. Hilliard scored 22 points, Pinkston had 14 points and 11 rebounds and Villanova beat DePaul 87-62 on Wednesday for its sixth straight win. The Wildcats made a season-high 15 3-pointers and had five players score in double figures in an efficient tuneup for Sundays game against the 18th-ranked Bluejays. James Bell had 16 points and Arcidiacono finished with 14, including four 3s. "We just want to get better throughout the year and play our best basketball at the end of the year," Hilliard said. Villanova (22-2, 10-1) opened a three-game trip with its eighth consecutive victory against DePaul. The Wildcats, who lost 96-68 to Creighton on Jan. 20, lead the Big East by one game over the idle Bluejays. Hilliard said his team was focused on lowly DePaul, even with the big game coming up this weekend, and coach Jay Wright had faith that the Wildcats would bring the right approach to the matchup with the Blue Demons. "I have great confidence in these guys," Wright said. "Its James Bell, Tony Chennault, Arcidiacono, are the leaders. I just constantly talk to them about just looking at one game at a time and they take care of it. As a coach you always worry about it a little bit but really, with this team, no." Brandon Young had a season-high 27 points for DePaul (10-15, 2-10), which has lost seven in a row. Sandi Marcius added 10 points and seven rebounds. "I didnt think that we played real well tonight but Villanova had everything to do with it," Blue Demons coach Oliver Purnell said. "Theyre playing at a high level. They shot the ball extremely well. " Villanova led 48-31 at halftime and then put it away with a 13-3 run to begin the second half. B.J. Raji Womens Jersey. Daniel Ochefu found Bell for a strong alley-oop dunk and Hilliard made a 3-pointer to make it 61-34 with 16:14 to go, leading to a timeout for DePaul. The Wildcats had impressive ball movement while shooting 55 per cent from the field, including a 15-of-26 performance on 3-point attempts. Hilliard was 5 for 7 from long range and Arcidiacono made each of his four 3-point attempts. "We just like playing with each other," Hilliard said. "Its just a testament to what weve been through and coach Wright coaching us and us listening and just sticking to what we do." It was DePauls first game since the school announced Monday that senior Cleveland Melvin was no longer enrolled at the university. Melvin, who ranks among DePauls career leaders in several categories, including scoring and rebounding, was suspended last month for violating team rules. The Blue Demons are winless in five games since Melvin had 25 points in an 84-74 loss to Xavier on Jan. 20 in his final game with DePaul. The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 16.7 points and 6.4 rebounds in 20 games this season. "Sad. Thats a brother that I came in here with my freshman year," Young said. "Since hes gone somebody else has to step up, fill his spot, but every game weve got to focus on our opponent and try to get a win." Villanova began to pull away midway through the first half, scoring 11 straight points to open a 37-22 lead with 5:27 to go. Bell started the run with a 3-pointer and Dylan Ennis closed it out with another 3. It was more of the same for the rest of the half. Chennault had a steal that led to a nice fast-break pass by Hilliard to Pinkston, who ran down the middle of the lane for a soaring dunk that made it 46-27 with 1:14 left. Pinkston was 5 for 7 from the field and 4 for 4 at the line in his second double-double of the season. He had 15 points and 10 rebounds in a 74-67 win at St. Johns on Jan. 11. cheap jerseys cheap jerseys from china ' ' ' |

"I dont believe in building through free agency. wholesale nfl jerseys ." Argos general manager Jim Barker uttered those words during an interview with TSN 1050 radio just prior to the CFLs annual free agent frenzy. If you turn back the clock Barker is true to his word. Last February the only free agent the team added was LB/DE James Yurichuk. He proved his worth as a situational player who excelled on special teams, but it was far from being the kind of deal that captured the attention of more than just the die-hard fan. This may be a similar season in terms of who the Argos bring in according to Barker. "I do believe in plugging holes (via free agency) and trying to find that right guy thats going to bring our club up a notch," Barker noted. The bigger question may be what the club does about three specific players who may opt to not return to Toronto, Pat Watkins, Robert McCune and Swayze Waters. Watkins, a league all-star at cornerback last year, would be the toughest to replace. Hes also been the hardest to find. "Honestly we have not been able to get in touch with him. He doesnt return our calls, which is a bad thing," chuckled Barker. "If a guy doesnt want to be in Toronto then god bless him and good luck. Were persistent. Were sending players to his house, doing all those kind of things to try and run him down. But Pat is one of those guys who is very elusive. Its not a shocking development for us. Its possible hes just involved in something and not worried about it." Swayze Waters led the CFL in punting average and was virtually automatic on field goals down the stretch and is looking at returning to the states. "Hes tried out for a couple of NFL teams," Barker told TSN 1050. "Every indication hes given us is that hes coming back to Toronto if he comes back to the CFL." The Argos are preparing for the scenario where Waters makes an NFL team, and last week signed LSU grad Josh Jasper. Robert McCunes worth was evident in the teams loss to Hamilton in the Eastern Final. The middle linebacker, who was third in the league with 99 tackles, missed the game with a shoulder injury. It seemed every time Henry Burris scrambled, he ran right where McCune would have been. "With Robert were kind of waiting," said the GM. "Obviously Robert had a great year for us. Hes 34 years old. Thats a decision that were in the process of making, to which direction were going to go with him." If the Argos and McCune were to part ways it would leave the team down a couple of middle linebackers, as Jason Pottinger was selected by Ottawa in the expansion draft. Barker has a replacement all picked out, someone who may not be thought of as an MLB. "Shane Horton. Thats his natural position." Barker said, then may have tipped his hand about McCunes future. "(Horton) played out of position playing rush end last year. Hes going to be a very, very good middle linebacker." Barker added he feels that at 215 pounds, Horton is big enough to play in the middle. Herve Tonye-Tonye, a non-import who just completed his rookie season, can also play the inside. As far as non-imports are concerned, it may be an interesting free agency period because of the recent expansion draft. Stocking the Ottawa RedBlacks took its toll on the existing teams rosters, so there will be a desire to restock the shelves with fresh talent. Barker commented on a few of the Canadians on the Argos that are on the verge of free agency. Chad Rempel, long snapper: "Chad worked out with Tampa Bay (NFL). He wants to give that a chance until thats exhausted." Zander Robinson, tight end/fullback: "Zander loves being in Toronto and loves how weve used him in the offence. Hes a valuable guy for us, but hes also exploring NFL opportunities." David Lee, defensive end: "Is a guy that had a real good year for us. I think he wants to try the free-agent market. Its his first time going through that and I think hes a guy that wants to go out and see what the market is all about." Mike Bradwell, wide receiver. "I think were really close. He loves being in Toronto." Coaching Moves/Tryout Camp: The Boatmen lost several coaches in the off-season. Special teams coordinator Mike OShea left to become the head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, while defensive coordinator Chris Jones took over the head coaching job with the Edmonton Eskimos. Jones also took a handful of assistant coaches with him. Barker says there will be announcement about the new-look staff in the immediate future. "Were excited about what our staff is going to look like" said Barker. "Scott (head coach Milanovich) will be announcing those (soon). Hes come up with a couple of guys who have great CFL experience. Barker spoke to TSN 1050 from Atlanta, where the Argos were hosting a tryout camp. Over 60 players were in attendance and Barker was happy with what they found. "There were two players that were going to attempt to sign" said the GM. "Were pretty excited." If those players head north in June theyll attend training camp. Where that will be is still anyones guess. The team will not be back at the University of Torontos Erindale campus and at present are homeless. Where are they heading? "Those are questions for (Executive Chairman and CEO) Chris Rudge. "I know that theres some different things going on with York University," said Barker. "Other than that, Im not privy to those things. cheap nfl jerseys . Make that 2-40 now. Tony Gwynn Jr. led off the ninth with a walk against Miami closer SteveCishek and later scored, BenRevere added the go-ahead run when Miami second baseman DonovanSolano bobbled a potential double-play grounder and the Phillies rallied past the Marlins 5-4 Thursday night to snap a six-game losing streak. cheap jerseys .J. -- The New York Giants are not only back in the playoff hunt with a four-game winning streak, theyre calling the plays that get them those wins. WASHINGTON -- KrisMedlen understood the enormity of his latest start and he delivered. The Braves starter pitched seven shutout innings in his latest winning performance and MartinPrados two-run double proved decisive to help Atlanta end a four-game losing streak with a 5-1 victory over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday night. Medlen (5-1) allowed seven hits while striking out seven and walking one in his fifth start of the season. The Braves have won 16 consecutive starts behind the right-hander dating back to May 2010. More importantly, Atlanta salvaged the three-game divisional series and halted the Nationals three-game winning streak. The Braves, who entered the day atop the National League wild card chase, moved within six games of the NL East leading Nationals. "If nothing else, we get a chance to just go, Phew," said Braves third baseman ChipperJones following the win and before the team heads off to face San Francisco. "You know, take a deep breath and a win like this kind of rejuvenates us. "So I think if we were heading out to the Left Coast having lost five in a row, theres always that little check in your spirit in the back of your mind ... this win allows us to take a deep breath and hopefully build some momentum going out West." Coming off a shutout in his last outing, Medlen extended his scoreless streak to 21 innings. Since entering the Braves rotation on July 31, the Medlen is 4-0 with a 0.84 ERA. "Yes, I guess you can call it the biggest game of my career just because we needed a stop and I was up to the challenge, and I just tried to challenge the hitters," Medlen said. Prados fifth-inning double gave the Braves an early 2-0 lead. After the Nationals cut the lead in half in the eighth, the Braves pulled away with three runs in the ninth. The Nationals scored an unearned run against the Braves bullpen after Medlin exited following 103 pitches. BryceHarper opened the eighth with an opposite field single against reliever EricOFlaherty, and took second on left fielder ReedJohnsons bobble. After moving to third on RyanZimmermans ground ball out, Harper scored on MichaelMorses single. OFlaherty walked AdamLaRoche, but avoided further damage by inducing IanDesmond into a double play grounder. With two outs in the fifth inning and TylerPastornicky on first base, RossDetwiler (7-6) walked Medlin on four pitches. Up stepped Prado, who laced a 2-2 slider toward centerfielder Harper. The rookie initially broke in on the liner which sailed over his head. Both runners scored on the double, Prados second of the gaame.cheap jerseys from china. "I thought I had a good read on it. He hit it off his front foot, had some spin on it," said Harper, who finished 1 for 4. Two of the Braves three ninth-inning runs against Nationals reliever TomGorzelanny were unearned. Dave Ross sacrifice fly scored Jones and MichaelBourns pinch-hit RBI single plated FreddieFreeman. Bourn later stole third base and advanced home on a throwing error by KurtSuzuki. The Nationals had opportunities against Medlen with the best coming in the sixth. JaysonWerth opened the inning with a double to left as Prados attempt at a diving catch came up short and the ball rolled to the wall. One out later, Zimmerman singled and Medlen walked Morse, loading the bases. The 26-year-old Medlen hung tough, getting LaRoche out on a foul pop to first base and Desmond, a notoriously good hitter in bases-loaded situations with a grounder. "We had the right people up at the right time, but we didnt get it done," Nationals manager Davey Johnson said. With runners on the corners against Medlen in the second, Suzuki hit a grounder through the box, but with DannyEspinosa running on the pitch, Braves second baseman Pastornicky moved as well and was perfectly positioned to start a 4-3 double play. "(Medlen) walks out there like, I know I can get you out," a proud Jones said. "Hes got a few different ways to do it. What a great time for him to have a great start. We needed it bad." Braves closer CraigKimbrel struck out the side in the ninth in a non-save situation. The Nationals, who matched a franchise on Tuesday by extending their division lead to seven games, maintain a 10-5 series lead over the Braves this season. By taking two of three from both the Braves and New York Mets on the home stand, Washington picked up two games against Atlanta in the standings. "We gained some ground and thats what we wanted to do in this series," Detwiler said. "Its tough to sweep no matter who it is." The two sides wrap up their regular season meetings September 14-16 in Atlanta. Notes: Pre-game showers delayed the start by 29 minutes. Before the game Washington honoured the retiring Jones, who finished 1-for-4 in his final regular season game at Nationals Park. .Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez rested usual starters BrianMcCann along with Bourn and DanUggla, who also pinch-hit in the ninth. . Atlanta opens a four-game series at San Francisco Thursday with RHP TommyHanson facing lefty BarryZito. TORONTO The shootout has proven a viable saving grace for this years edition of the Maple Leafs. jerseys nfl cheap free shipping . When ReidBoucher shot wide in what would be the Devils final attempt on JonathanBernier in the third round of the skills competition Sunday, he handed Toronto its eighth victorious decision in the shootout this season tied for the most in the NHL. In fact, the Leafs have more victories in the shootout since the start of November (six) than they do in regulation/overtime (five), a fact thats masked, until recently, just how poorly the team has performed in the past two-plus months (12-16-5). But for a team that was teetering on a four-game losing streak the second longest this season the winning decision at the ACC, in a reality divorced from the game itself, was nonetheless needed and important. "Well, we can breathe," said Randy Carlyle, following the 3-2 victory, the second in two tries against the Devils this season, both wins coming in the shootout. "Theres been a lot of gasping going on, and even in this game there was a lot of gasping going on how tight it was." It was not a pretty performance in many regards the Leafs were outshot 38-25 and out-attempted 83-48 but one that at least offered some of the requisite intensity and desire that had been missing amid the recent slide and quite often throughout whats been a disappointing campaign to date. And they might very well have won it in regulation had it not been for a blown call on TylerBozaks apparent go-ahead goal in the second frame. "Guys are a little looser tonight already," MasonRaymond told the Leaf Report shortly after the win. "It feels good. It feels good to get a win." "Hopefully this relieves a little bit of the stress thats involved for our hockey club, and they can get back playing to the way were capable of playing," added Carlyle. Consistency has been a foe of his team so far. The Leafs have reeled off exactly one winning streak since October it lasted three games, two of which were won in shootouts winning back-to-back games on just two other occasions. Stringing together heartier efforts against the Capitals and Devils in recent days then is just a mild step in the right direction. The teams response in an upcoming back-to-back with the Bruins and Sabres will indicate whether, in fact, a corner is gradually being turned. "I dont think its an exact recipe you can follow," Raymond said of achieving consistency. "Youve got to build off the things, in my opinion, that you did well, stay positive and believe. I think thats a big part of it is just believing that we can get the job done and go out there and get wins." "I think the last few games our compete level and effort has been way better," said van Riemsdyk, who scored for the second straight game, "and I think if we continue to play in that same mold well have some more results that we want." Five Points 1. Gardiners Development Pt. 1 Carlyle labeled 23-year-old JakeGardiners performance in Washington Friday night as "the model in which wed like him to play. Gardiner, who had been scratched for just the second time all season one night earlier in Carolina, raised his performance in the eyes of the coaching staff against the Capitals. "Much different JakeGardiner," said Carlyle, observing improved strength and intensity in the defensive zone as well as better decision-making with the puck. Such is the road to development for a young defender in the NHL. Many ups come with many downs. "Jake is a talented young player and there are steps that he has to continue to take," said Carlyle, who met with Gardiner briefly at the end of Sundays morning skate. "With Jake, he has the ability to move the puck both with his hands and with his feet he can skate. He would like to make more consistent decisions with the puck and so would we. Weve struggled to find a consistent level for him over the last probably five or six games." That inconsistency led Carlyle to scratch Gardiner last week, a questionable move that blew up in a 6-1 loss to the Hurricanes. But if the sit-down was designed to spark a reaction then it may have achieved some success the next night in the U.S. capital. "I think what happens with young players is they find that theyre always trying to do one thing and maybe trying to do too much of one thing and that sometimes turns into where you skate the puck into areas where you shouldnt and turn over the puck," said Carlyle. "But hes a young player that has got a tremendous upside." 2. Gardiners Development Pt. 2 What Carlyle has done additionally, in the mean-time, is remove Gardiner from the teams top two pairings he and 19-year-old MorganRielly formed the third grouping for the second straight game against the Devils and thus lighten the burden he is exposed to on a night to night basis. Speaking to the Leaf Report on Sunday morning, Gardiner described his decision-making with the puck as one needed improvement, an issue again at times on Sunday night. "Dont try and force anything," he said. "I think I was trying to make plays that werent there and I was maybe trying to move the puck a little bit too quickly. When theres not an open guy, maybe just be patient and hold onto the puck a little bit." Gardiner, who played over 24 minutes against the Devils, is averaging nearly 22 minutes per game this season, second on the team. 3. Bolland Front DaveBolland hasnt played since Nov. 2, when his left ankle was sliced by the skate blade of Canucks forward ZackKassian. The 27-year-old has missed 32 games with the injury, but is due to finally start skating with the team on Thursday. Bolland recently traveled to Montreal in hopes of having a new boot designed specifically to support the injured area. That boot was due to arrive in Toronto on Monday with the Mimico native then expected to skate before joining the Leafs on a four-game road trip next week. An exact timeframe for return remains unclear. 4. Harder to Play Against? Asked before the game if this version of the Maple Leafs was as difficult to play against as the one that ended a lengthy playoff drought last season, Carlyle responded flatly in the negative. "Nowhere near," he said. "Weve been scratching our heads and trying to figure out why." And if there was one element that remained constant from a Friday loss in Washington to Sundays win in Toronto, it was the intensity of his group. The execution may have been lacking at times, but the compete Carlyle has been prodding for remained. "Thats one thing that weve really tried to put at the forefront in the last three weeks to a month is that our compete level has to go to a level where were satisfied," said Carlyle on Sunday morning. "Thats the one thing that weve said is our compete level has to go up." Carlyle pointed to the simple will required to win puck battles. "We have been guilty of just standing around in those situations," he said. "I call it getting inside. I think to be inside in todays NHL is the key because you cant hook and hold, you have to skate your way to get inside. "When we do it we can play effective hockey and give ourselves a chance to win. And when we dont do it were receiving the game, were standing around. I would say thats the biggest mystery for the coaching staff." 5. Stunted Starts Toronto has exited the first frame with a lead in 12 of 47 games this season, trailing, by comparison, on 17 occasions. Substandard starts have been a source of considerable trouble, often requiring the club to dig out from an early hole without much ultimate success. "All year long, weve [had] pretty poor starts," said Gardiner. "We try to dig ourselves out of it and then we start playing well and its too late by that time so if we can play almost desperate and aggressive I think well have better starts and itll lead to a better outcome." The Leafs started slowly again on Sunday outshot 7-1 in the opening 10 minutes but rebounded during the back half of the period, finding the games first goal from TylerBozak, his seventh this season. "We were rusty, I thought, for the first 10 or 12 minutes of the game," said Carlyle. Stats-Pack 8-4 Leafs record in the shootout this season. 13 Points in the past 11 games for TylerBozak, who has 19 points in 23 games this season. 8 Shootout wins for the Leafs this season, tied with the Capitals for the most in the NHL. 1 Goals in the past 14 games for NazemKadri. 24:23 Ice-time for JakeGardiner against the Devils, second on the team to DionPhaneuf. 62% - Leafs success rate on the draw against the Devils. 2 Consecutive games with a goal for JamesvanRiemsdyk, who had two in the preceding 15 games. NEW YORK -- JoeJohnsons 10th 3-pointer was maybe the toughest, coming while being fouled in the corner, and now he had a decision. B.J. Raji Womens Jersey . Settle for the best 3-point shooting night of the season, or stay on the court for the fourth quarter and a chance at history? "I asked him, he wanted out. So he did his job," JasonKidd said. "Im not a coach thats going to sit someone when theyre hot." And Johnson was sizzling. Johnson made 10 3-pointers, most in the NBA this season, and scored a season-high 37 points to lead the Brooklyn Nets to a 130-94 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night. "My teammates kept telling me, when you catch it, just shoot it," Johnson said. Johnson finished 10 for 14 from behind the arc, including 8 of 10 during an incredible third-quarter shooting performance. He passed the nine 3-pointers made this season by JeremyLin, who also did it against the inept 76ers perimeter defence, and StephenCurry. Johnson scored 29 points in the third, his most in any quarter in his career. But after battling an illness the last few days and with the Nets ahead 100-73, Johnson declined the opportunity to play in the fourth quarter and chase the NBA record of 12 3-pointers held by KobeBryant and DonyellMarshall. "I wasnt worried about it," Johnson said. "Most importantly I wanted to try to keep guys healthy and get some of the other guys a chance to play." He finished 13 of 20 overall in the kind of night few players have seen -- though one Net said he had. "Not of recent, but yes, I have," 37-year-old KevinGarnett said. "Ive been in the league since like Moses. Not too much I aint seen." DeronWilliams had 13 points and 13 assists for the Nets, who led by as many as 42 and won for the fourth time in five games. They did it without centre BrookLopez, but no inside game was really needed on this night when the Nets set a franchise record for 3-pointers. Brooklyn finished 21 of 35 from behind the arc against a Philadelphia team that came in averaging 10.1 3-pointers allowed per game, a pace that would easily set an NBA record. JamesAnderson scored 17 points for the 76ers, who lost their seventh straight overall and have dropped 11 in a row on the road since winning at Washington in their road opener. The Sixers played without rookie point guard MichaelCarter-Williams for a seventh straight game as he deals with a skin infection. Philadelphia surrendered 139 points Saturday to Portland, most in the NBA this season, and was nearly as defenceless in this one. "I mean everyone is just moving the ball against us good and we kind of get broken down into a scramble, and when we scramble it is not a good thing," Anderson said. The Nets opened huge leads in each of the first two quarters that the Sixers cut into, but Johnson put them away for good in the third. After blowing it open during a 42-point period, the Nets kept feeding Johnson in the closing minutes, knowing he would sit out the fourth. He hit his ninth with 53 seconds left and followed that with his final one from the corner while being fouled with 27 seconds to go. Johnson hit 3s so quickly even the stats couldnt keep up. The original box score after three quarters missed his final make. "He just came out in the third and lit us up," 76ers forward ThaddeusYoung said. The Nets get visits from Indiana and Chicago next week and have a brutal road trip to Indiana, San Antonio and Oklahoma City around the new year, but took care of the first game during a light stretch this week. They shot 60 per cent overall and from behind the arc. AndrayBlatche finished with 20 points. Brooklyn scored the first seven points and led by as much as 16 in the first quarter before settling for a 32-22 lead. The second quarter was much the same; the Nets opened an 18-point lead that the Sixers chipped away at, cutting it to 58-48 at halftime. Philadelphia has trailed by double digits in 21 of its 26 games. NOTES: Sixers coach Brett Brown said hes hopeful Carter-Williams can return this week. ... The Nets held Lopez out for a second straight game when Kidd didnt like the way he was moving around Monday morning. MirzaTeletovic made his first career start. Jarrett Boykin Womens Jersey . He then kicked nine goals in succession -- two conversions and seven penalties -- before being replaced in the 62nd minute, three points short of the Highlanders record for most points in a match.LOS ANGELES -- Pinch-hitter HectorSanchez had a tiebreaking sacrifice fly in the 10th inning, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1 Thursday night in the opener of a four-game series. BrandonBelt added an RBI single for the Giants, who had tied the score at 1 when BrandonHicks homered off JoshBeckett in the seventh. J.P.Howell (1-3) issued a one-out walk in the 11th to AngelPagan, who advanced on a wild pitch by JameyWright before the right-hander walked HunterPence and BusterPosey. Sanchez, who came in 1 for 10 as a pinch-hitter with seven strikeouts, flied out to the warning track in right field to drive in Pagan. Belt followed with a single to make it 3-1. SantiagoCasilla (1-0) pitched 1 1-3 innings for the win, striking out YasielPuig with a runner at second to end the eighth before throwing a perfect ninth. SergioRomo got three outs for his 11th save in as many chances. RyanVogelsong yielded one run and five hits through 7 1-3 innings in his seventh start and third against the defending NL West champion Dodgers. The other two were San Francisco victories in which he did not get the decision. The Giants are 5-0 in Vogelsongs last five starts against the Dodgers, and hes had a no-decision in all of them. Beckett continued to pitch well despite little run support. The three-time All-Star went 6 2-3 innings, allowing a run and five hits. It was the fifth straight start in which the Dodgers scored fewer than three runs while Beckett was in the game, leaving him with a loss and four no-decisions. He iss 0-6 with a 4. Dodgers third baseman JuanUribe left the game because of soreness in his right hamstring. He grounded into an inning-ending double play in the seventh and played one more inning in the field. Los Angeles opened the scoring in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by DrewButera. Hicks homered to left field in the seventh to end a 4-for-30 skid, after striking out his first two times up. It was his sixth home run this season, doubling the total he had in 90 at-bats over the previous three years with Atlanta and Oakland. Beckett walked three of his first seven batters, equaling his total in 19 2-3 innings over his previous three starts combined. PITTSBURGH -- JeanMachi has been playing professional baseball in the United States since 2002 when he pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies team in the rookie-level Gulf Coast League. Andre Ethier Dodgers Jersey . Yet the beefy right-handed reliever, now with the San Francisco Giants, had never been asked to bunt until the 13th inning Monday night. Not only did he successfully execute get the bunt for a sacrifice, but caused Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher JaredHughes to rush a wide throw to first base. The error enabled HunterPence to score from second base and give the Giants an 11-10 victory. "I saw (Hughes) got a late break off the mound and slipped and I knew I had to run hard," Machi said through a translator. "I was excited because I did my job. They wanted me to move the runners up and I did that." San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said he was confident the 6-foot, 255-pound Machi could bunt despite the lack of experience. "Looks are deceiving in his case," Bochy said. "Hes a lot more athletic than he looks." San Francisco overcame a six-run deficit to run its winning streak to a season-best six games and also win for the 10th time in 11 games while sending the Pirates to their 18th loss in 23 games. Hughes (1-1) came on to start the 13th with the score tied at 10. With one out, he walked Pence and hit Juan Perez with a pitch to put runners on first and second base. Machi (5-0) then dropped down his bunt and wound up tied for the major league lead in victories with three starting pitchers: the Los Angeles Dodgers ZackGreinke, St. Louis AdamWainwright and Torontos MarkBuehrle. Giants backup catcher HectorSanchez had four hits and three RBIs, while BusterPosey, who got a day off from catching and played first base, had three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs. Pence finished with three hits and scored four times and AngelPagan also had three of San Franciscos 20 hits. MichaelMorse drove in two runs with a pair of doubles. Posey forced extra innings when his RBI single in the ninth off MarkMelancon tied it at 10. Machi pitched two scoreless innings and SergioRomo worked the 13th for his 10th save. "Its just one of 162 games and at the end of the day its about playing hard, playing to the end and never giving up," Pence said. The Pirates AndrewMcCutchen had four hits and PedroAlvarez homered and drove in four runs. Pittsburgh went ahead by six runs, 8-2, after scoring four times in the fifth inning but couldnt hold on. Pittsburgh starter JeffLocke, recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis earlier in the day, allowed six runs in 5 1/3 innings. The Pirates needed a spot starter after their rotation was scrambled last week by back-to-back rainouts in Baltimore. Six Pirates relievers gave up four runs in 7 2/3 innings and BryanMorris let all three inherited runners scored when he relieved Locke. "Well, it basically got to our location not being good," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said of his bullpens struggles. "We were up in the zone more than we normally are." San Franciscos YusmeiroPetit allowed eight runs in 4 1-3 innings. He started in place of MattCain, who was placed on the disabled list Sunday with a cut on his right index finger. "I thought we were dead in the water," Bochy said. "It was one of the grittiest games Ive been a part of in this group." CLEARWATER, Fla. Clayton Kershaw Dodgers Jersey . -- JoseBautista hit a long home run off RobertoHernandez three batters into the game, and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 Wednesday in rain-shortened spring training opener for both teams. Bautistas home run landed outside of the ballpark at Bright House Field. The game was called in the middle of the seventh inning. "It felt pretty good, I cant deny that," Bautista said. "More importantly I felt like I was seeing the ball great. I havent been playing for a while so thats a positive." Bautista missed the last six weeks of the season with a hip injury, the second straight year in which he ended the season on the disabled list. He hit 28 home runs in 2013 after reaching 27 the year before. He was 1 for 2 with a walk and two runs scored Wednesday. RyanHoward and MarlonByrd each had run-scoring singles off former Phillies left-hander J.A.Happ in the bottom of the first. STARTING TIME Phillies: Hernandez, making his Phillies debut, allowed two runs on four hits in two innings. He is the front runner for the fifth starters job after signing a one-year, $4.5 million contract as a free agent this winter. "When I face him I try to throw changeups and sinkers down," Hernandez said of the home run to Bautista. "But today I got down in the count and had to throw it down the middle. I missed up." Blue Jays: Happ struggled in his only inning against his former team. Although he ended up striking out the side, he gave up four hits and a walk in facing eight batters. Happ finished second in the NL Rookie of the Year voting in 2009, when he went 12-4 with a 2.93 ERA. Happ was 5-7 with a 4.56 ERA in 18 starts with the Blue Jays last season. TRAINERS ROOM Philadelphia left-hander ColeHamels threw off the mound for the first time this spring. The 30-year-old Hamels entered camp behind the rest of the pitchers after experiencing biceps soreness in November. Hamels will throw another side session on Saturday and isnt likely to pitch in a Grapefruit League game for another two weeks. HOWARDS END Howard got off to a fast start, singling in a run in the bottom of first. The Phillies first baseman played only 80 games last year because of knee problems. Manager Ryne Sandberg is impressed with Howards progress. "I really like Howards aggressiveness early in the count with men on base," Sandberg said. KNUCKLED CliffLee will make his first start of the spring on Thursday, when the Phillies take on the Blue Jays for the second straight day, this time in Dunedin. But several Phillies regulars will not be in the lineup, including Howard, JimmyRollins and ChaseUtley. Toronto is starting knuckleball pitcher R.A.Dickey. But Sandberg says hes not sitting his regulars because of Dickeys unusual pitch. "I dont think that comes into play that much," Sandberg said. "If they keep it simple, it comes down to see the ball and hit it." Andre Ethier Authentic Jersey . There is also the Genoa derby on Sunday, while second-place Roma hosts Parma looking to take advantage of any more slip-ups from Juventus. Here are five things to know about the Italian league ahead of this weekends matches: LLORENTE ON SONGThe last time Juventus hosted Inter Milan the visitors ended the Bianconeris impressive streak of 49 games unbeaten with a 3-1 victory. Yasiel Puig Dodgers Jersey . Teague one handed three pointerTheres something to be said about having the nerve to go up and take a shot from downtown late in a close playoff game, but what is there really to say when that shot is one handed? Teague answers that question with a simple Jordan like shrug of the shoulders. NEW YORK -- SeanDoolittle wasnt surprised at all by the Oakland As offensive outburst in the 10th inning. BrandonMoss hit his second homer of the game leading off the 10th, and the Oakland Athletics rallied for a 5-2 victory over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night. The majors best run-producing offence then got an RBI double from JedLowrie and a run-scoring single from KyleBlanks to open a big lead for Oaklands suspect back end of the bullpen. "The way the guys were swinging in the 10th inning, it was like they could smell the victory and found a way to get it done," the As reliever said. "Thats typical Oakland As baseball." Returning to the lineup after missing two games with a strained right calf, Moss drilled a full-count pitch from AdamWarren (1-3) into the second deck down the right field line for his 15th homer. That gave the AL West-leading As their first lead in a game that was delayed more than an hour at the start by rain. "We have a very confident offence," Moss said. Doolittle finished off the As fourth straight win with a perfect 10th for his sixth save. The left-hander extended his scoreless streak to 15 1-3 innings. DanOtero (5-1) pitched an inning for the As, who improved to 7-13 when trailing after seven innings. Pinch-hitter StephenVogt hit a tying double off DellinBetances with two outs in the eighth inning. Betances walked Albert Callaspo before Vogt drilled a full-count pitch into the right-centre gap. "That at-bat was incredible ... because Betances, he is a really good reliever," Moss said. "I felt like that pretty much did it for us." Betances had not walked a batter over his previous 10 appearances (15 1-3 innings). "I felt good. I just think the two out walk hurt, I had him in my head and I just did not put him away," Betances said. "I think from there I just fell behind on Vogt and just threw him a good pitch to hit. I think Callaspo, that at-bat was more frustrating." The injury-depleted Yankees came in looking hardly like the Bronx Bombers they are expected to be. With an opening-day payroll about $120 million moree than the As, New York had hit just five homers in 15 games and none in the two MarkTeixeira sat with inflammation in his surgically repaired right wrist. Brian Wilson Jersey. Teixeira, though, woke up pain-free Tuesday and manager JoeGirardi made the switch-hitter the cleanup batter. Teixeira drove in New Yorks two runs, homering in the sixth for a 2-1 lead. "He said he was fine," Girardi said. "You know you kind of keep your fingers crossed and hope he feels good tomorrow." In contrast, Moss drive off HirokiKuroda into Monument Park leading off the fifth gave the slugging As at least one long ball in 11 straight games. A rainbow arcing high above the scoreboard in centre field before the rain-delayed first pitch appeared to be a good omen for New York, which grabbed a quick lead. ScottKazmir needed four batters to warm up after a storm pushed back the start 1 hour, 12 minutes. BrettGardner singled leading off. After DerekJeter struck out, JacobyEllsbury singled and Teixeira dunked a blooper inside the right field line for a 1-0 lead. After that, Kazmir retired 16 of 17 -- including four Ks in a row -- before Teixeira sent a drive into the As bullpen in left-centre for his 10th homer -- the second swinging from the right side -- and a 2-1 lead. "He just ran out of pitches," Melvin explained why he lifted Kazmir when he did. NOTES: The As improved to 11-3 against New York since July 19, 2012. ... Ellsbury has committed $1 million to Oregon State, where he played from 2003-05. The money will go to help with the expansion of the baseball teams locker room facilities. ... The Yankees claimed off waivers LHP WadeLeBlanc from the Los Angeles Angels. ... New York OF CarlosBeltran (bone spur in right elbow) went 2 for 3 with a walk as the designated hitter in an extended spring training game in Tampa, Florida. Girardi said it was possible that Beltran could rejoin the Yankees on Friday in Kansas City. ... The Athletics put OF JoshReddick on the 15-day DL because of a hyperextended right knee. ... Hands up anybody who has heard of Paul Tisdale, Chris Wilder, Mark Yates or Russell Slade. Matthew Slater Official . The four Englishmen might sound like members of a boy band but are in fact all in the top five of the longest tenured managers in English football. Ninety-two clubs form the top four tiers of English football and the summer departures of Sir Alex Ferguson from Manchester United, David Moyes from Everton and Tony Pulis from Stoke, all moved these four lower league managers directly behind Arsenals Arsene Wenger in time spent as managers at their current clubs. Wenger has now managed Arsenal for 17 years in the Premier League, over nine years longer than Exeter City boss Tisdale who is second on the list. The gap is staggeringly wider to the next Premier League manager and I will give you time to think who that might be..... Alan Pardew was hired by Newcastle United on December 9, 2010. He hasnt yet reached three years in the job but the Magpies are already ahead of 18 other Premier League clubs in terms of longevity with the man in charge. Six weeks away from his third anniversary in charge, incredibly Pardew ranks eighth out of 92 football managers in England for longevity at his club. Theres a good chance youve been on Twitter longer. Football clubs are hiring and firing football managers at a quicker rate in English football than they ever have before. Just 42 of the 92 managers (45 per cent) have been in their current job for one year or more. On this date two years ago, in 2011, 72 of the current 92 English league clubs (78 per cent) had a different football manager than they currently have. Fifteen of the current 20 Premier League clubs also had a different man in charge (75 per cent) and, even though it seemed just like yesterday, Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool (hired June 1, 2012) is now the 6th longest tenured manager at a Premier League club. These are unprecedented times in English football, but what are we to make of these changes? Why now? And is it good for the game? The pressure has always been on football managers to be successful. Chairman of clubs in the 40s, 60s, 80s, no matter when, were just as passionate as the ones currently in charge, if not more so, with many of them having a real connection with the club from a young age. However, never before have clubs evaluated themselves more than they currently do. Never before have fans had a louder voice than they currently have through social media and never before have managers had to deal with more self-entitled, rich, unmotivated players than they currently do. This was evident this very week after the Premier League lost another manager when Ian Holloway left Crystal Palace by mutual consent. Palace, new to the Premier League after winning the playoff final last season, are yet another clear case that three promoted teams to the top flight each year is one too many. Holloway, a man who openly talks about things like spirit and confidence in attempts to galvanize his team, is clearly a man who believes he can make a difference when the playing field is quite level amongst competitive sides, such as the Championship. He is also a man easy to like. He tells you what he feels and for fans and the media this opens up a rare and fascinating window to the goings-on in the game, many shield us from. Holloway looked like a broken man in the press conference confirming his departure. A positive, candid and funny man, the emotions had drained out of him. He looked ten years older than he looked just a few months ago, lifting the Playoff Trophy at Wembley. "I am very tired, if I am honest. With the changes made, we didnt keep the spirit. Some of the new lads attitude, I am finding very annoying and thats not good. We probably made too many changes." Holloway had had enough and wasnt in the job a year. Footballers can wear managers down quickly as even the greatest will admit. "Four years at one club in enough," declared Pep Guardiola when he announced he was leaving Barcelona in 2012. Author Jonathan Wilson once told the story of the legendary Bela Guttman. "The third year," the great Hungarian coach always said, "is fatal." If a manager stays at a club more than that, he said, his players tend to become bored and/or complacent and opponents start to work out counter-strategies. And this brings us to whether or not it is good for the game. Long runs at football clubs, such as Wengers current one and Ferguson at Manchester United, are, of course, to be admired but they are now in the minority of the minority. What worked for them will not work for many others. Large football clubs with deep pockets and talent to win trophies regularly, in need of guidance from a legacy builder, obsessed with control and a need to be the true ruler of the club, is what kept them together for so long. Most other teams are positioned lower down the totem pole of English football hierarchy where successful managers will leave to move up the pole and where teams are forced to find a way of changing their fortunes much quicker. This is not good for current, former and future managers but it is great news for players, and their agents, who constantly can go in and out of the good books of managers as they move in/on. Crystal Palace, for example, signed 14 new players in June, July and August, all approved by Holloway and who will now play under a new manager who, most likely, will move many on sooner rather than later. The situation is similar at Sunderland, the other Premier League team to make a change this season, with Gus Poyet, in his third week, forced to work with players Di Canio and his recruitment staff wanted. Allowing managers to have a strong say on which players are signed is archaic and leads to these problems and clearly one of the next major changes in the sport is towards the North American model of recruitment, already used often in continental Europe, where a manager is left to simply manage the players his bosses get for him. It will never be only that way, however, and, of course, this way just reduces a managers stranglehold on a club even further, likely straining his patience even more, working with players he didnt necessarily want. Either way, it appears the future is not bright for managers to stay in one place for long. The way English football is looking, it appears Messrs Guttman and Guardiola were, much like their teams. Three years is now becoming a massive achievement. Just ask Alan Pardew in six weeks. If he makes it that far. Jamie Collins Official . Kane returned to score a goal and added an assist, leading the Winnipeg Jets to a 3-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday night. Lavelle Hawkins Official . -- U.S. captain TomWatson said Monday that TigerWoods latest back injury "doesnt bode well right now" for Woods playing in the Ryder Cup.NEW ORLEANS - As All-Star festivities wrap up in New Orleans and the focus immediately shifts to Thursdays NBA trade deadline, Masai Ujiri is prepared for a busy week of fielding phone calls. Ill be right here," he said pointing to his cell phone, "waiting and well see what happens." "I never know what to expect," Ujiri continued, speaking to TSN.ca ahead of Sundays All-Star game. "Sometimes its quiet until the last minute, sometimes its busy. As far as our team, I think the team has played well. They have done well with the platform so [well] keep trying to grow." If the Raptors general manager is feeling any pressure to make a move ahead of the deadline, hes not showing it. Ujiri remains patient, committed to sustainable long-term growth and weary of disrupting the teams newfound chemistry, but he wouldnt rule out pulling the trigger on the right deal, if its out there. Despite his teams recent success, the plan hasnt changed and neither has his composure. "I always said since I came [to Toronto], the players will dictate where we go and the team will dictate where we go," he stated. "Thats kind of how its been. So theyre growing and you want it that way." Following a disappointing 6-12 start to the season, the Raptors have gone 21-12 since trading RudyGay to Sacramento on Dec. 9. Whats stood out to Ujiri, coach Dwane Casey, the players and anyone that has watched this team over the last two months is their on-court chemistry. Gays absence has allowed for a more cohesive offence, predicated on ball movement, which has allowed KyleLowry and Torontos young players to flourish. All four incoming players have contributed and the defence has improved. Still, not even the Raptors architect could have predicted such a quick turnaround. "We try to study [[but] were not geniuses," Ujiri admitted. Dominique Easley Official. "You have to get lucky sometimes and I think we were lucky. It kind of came together in terms of chemistry." With 30 regular season games to go, the Raptors find themselves at the top of the Atlantic Division, third in the Eastern Conference. Theyre one game ahead of fourth-place Chicago and only 3.5 games separate them from Brooklyn, sitting in the seventh seed. Ujiri wont compromise the organizations future for instant gratification but he knows where they sit in the East and would consider adding another impact player as long as it doesnt derail their long-term flexibility. "I dont want to call out the conference," he said, "I cant do that but its the measuring stick and I think we have to keep that in mind. Lowry - a subject of trade rumours all season, the final year of his contract - has been a big part of the Raptors success and figures to be just as valuable to a their playoff cause. The question, as it has been for months is: Will he be around for the stretch run? I hate to comment about any player in that way, but I think we are not good enough so you have to keep it open," he responded. "Thats the honest answer. These guys have done pretty good. I know weve won a couple of games but we havent done anything yet." Translation; there are no untradeable players on the roster, Lowry included. If the right offer comes along Lowry could be moved but the asking price is significant, as it should be. It should go without saying, but Ujiri wont be pressured into selling off Lowry or any of his assets simply to make a mid-season splash. Although previous regimes have fallen into that trap, the Raptors first-year GM will survey the field and go from there. His phone is on. His eyes and ears are open. cheap jerseys cheap jerseys from china ' ' ' |

DENVER -- AlJefferson is pulling away in a big way from a slow, painful start to his season. Britton Colquitt Orange Jersey . Jefferson matched a season high with 35 points, including a key basket in the final seconds, and the Charlotte Bobcats hung on to beat the Denver Nuggets 101-98 on Wednesday night. It was the 10th consecutive game in which Jefferson has scored at least 20 points, an offensive flurry reflecting his improved health since missing nine of the Bobcats first 12 games this season because of a sprained right ankle. "It is all about staying healthy," Jefferson said. "I am 85 or 90 per cent right now. If I were 100 per cent, I could be very effective. I am working hard to get to 100 per cent." Jefferson looked awfully close to that in a game in which he also had 11 rebounds for his 14th double-double in his last 22 games. "He is scoring and then we are also scoring off him. His effect on his teammates is good," Bobcats coach Steve Clifford said. GeraldHenderson and RamonSessions each added 16 points for the Bobcats who beat the Nuggets in Denver for only the second time in eight games here. RandyFoye scored a season-high 33 points to lead Denver, which was without leading scorer TyLawson (left shoulder). His replacement, NateRobinson, was knocked out of the game in the first quarter with a left knee sprain, forcing Foye into the unfamiliar role of running the point. "Nate and Ty, they push the ball and do so many different things," Foye said. "I just tried to mimic some of the things that Ty does, just being aggressive, taking it to the basket and trying to make plays for everybody, picking my spots where I needed to score. "But we fouled a lot. We gave them the game. We got stops. They got offensive rebounds and we fouled them. We made some bonehead plays fouling them and just putting them on the free throw line. But well figure this out. Theres no quit in this team." Robinson was hurt in a spill underneath the Nuggets basket. He got up gingerly and continued playing but was forced to leave the game a short time later. He did not return and the Nuggets said Robinson was scheduled to undergo an MRI scan on Thursday to further evaluate the injury, which the team initially described as a sprain. EvanFournier added 19 points for the Nuggets and TimofeyMozgov had 15. Up by one at the break, the Bobcats pulled into a 75-all tie heading into the fourth period on a pair of free throws by Sessions, helping to offset a 3-pointer by Fournier moments earlier. Jeffersons 6-foot jumper evened the score again, at 82-all, but Fournier connected on a jumper and, after a turnover by the Bobcats, Foye drained a 3-pointer to give the Nuggets a five-point edge with 6:38 remaining. Foyes long jumper produced a final tie at 95-95 with 1:08 left. MichaelKidd-Gilchrist made one of two free throws and, after WilsonChandler missed a contested reverse layup, Jefferson sank a jumper for a 98-95 lead with 23.1 seconds remaining. DarrellArthur made a 3-pointer with 10.7 seconds left to pull the Nuggets within 99-98, but after Henderson was fouled and made one of two free throws with 9 seconds remaining, the Bobcats defence turned away shots from up close by Fournier and Mozgov to help the Bobcats hang on. "It was a weird play at the end," Jefferson said. "The rebound (off Fourniers miss) got deflected in some kind of way. Mozgov got the ball and had a clean shot at a layup, but MKG (Kidd-Gilchrist) made a heck of a job to block it." Added Henderson: "Those are plays that win games." Leading by as many as 14 points early on, the Bobcats settled for a 53-52 halftime lead as the Nuggets outscored Charlotte 31-21 in the second quarter. Jefferson converted a three-point play to give Charlotte a 43-31 advantage with 5:47 remaining in the second, but Denver closed the period on a 21-10 run capped by Arthurs 20-jumper an instant before the first-half buzzer. NOTES: The Bobcats BenGordon missed the game because of illness. ... The Nuggets and Bobcats meet one more time this season on March 10 in Charlotte. ... KembaWalker missed his fifth game for the Bobcats since spraining his left ankle Jan. 18 against Miami. The Bobcats are 3-2 in that span. ... Jefferson also scored 35 points against the New York Knicks on Jan. 14. ... Foyes previous high this season was 24 points on Jan. 9 against Oklahoma City. Britton Colquitt Jersey . The Maple Leafs are three points behind Columbus for the last playoff spot in the East with only three games left on their schedule. You can listen to the game live on TSN 1050 starting at 7:30pm et/4:30 pm pt. Shannon Sharpe Blue Jersey . Now its going to cost him -- four games and four paychecks. The Colts career sacks leader was suspended Friday by the NFL after violating the leagues ban on performance-enhancing substances. The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with forward BrandonBollig on a three-year contract extension. TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reports that the deal has an average annual value of $1.25 million per season. Bollig tweeted, "Beyond excited to remain a Blackhawk for the next three years. Thank you all for the support." The 27-year-oldis earning $575,000 this season in the second and final year of his current deal, and had been eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. "We take a great amount of pridde in having watched Brandon come up through our system and become a big part of our lineup on a daily basis", said Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman in a statement. John Elway Jersey. "We are pleased to be able to come to this agreement with him, ensuring that he will remain a part of our organization. We look forward to seeing his continued development with the Blackhawks." Bollighas six goals and six assists in 62 games this season for the Blackhawks. SAN JOSE, Calif. Brandon Carr Jersey Dallas Cowboys . -- With San Joses stars struggling to score goals of late, the Sharks needed to get some production from some of their lower-profile players. TommyWingels scored with 3:08 remaining in overtime to lead the Sharks to their second win in six games, 2-1 over the Dallas Stars on Wednesday night. "Im a big part of the group that the scorings kind of vanished from," Wingels said. "I got one tonight, but the numbers in the past games still arent where they need to be. Its something were working on, the group of guys that need to pick it up. We will. Were confident players and well get there." Marty Havlat scored in regulation and set up the game-winner in overtime to give the struggling Sharks a much-needed boost with just one game left before the Olympic break. Wingels had scored just one goal in the previous 23 games, while Havlat had one in the past 13 as the Sharks were held to 11 goals in the past seven games. "It was time for some others to step up and score," coach Todd McLellan said. "To see Marty and Tommy both do it in one game is a good thing for our team." Backup goalie AlexStalock made 19 saves to improve to 8-3-0 with a 1.61 goals against average in 11 starts. ValeriNichushkin tied the game early in the third for the Stars, who came up short in their attempt to sweep a three-game road trip and move into playoff position in the Western Conference. Dallas trails Vancouver by two points in the race for the final playoff spot. KariLehtonen made 19 saves. The Stars have closed ground on the Canucks by winning five of their previous seven games, allowing nine goals and posting three shutouts in that span. They were at their best defensively in the third period when they held the Sharks to two shots, including none in the first 14-plus minutes but ended up on the short side in overtime. "We were lucky to get a point out of it," centre VernonFiddler said. "It would have been nice to get two, but they made a play and we didnt." Havlat made a neat backhand pass from the side of the net to Wingels, who knocked it in for his 11th goal and first career overtime goal. The Stars have now lost six of seven games decided in overtime this season. "Its an area we have to improve in," coach Lindy Ruff said. "Thats not good enough. We lost coverage on the goal and they made us pay for it." The Stars tied the game early in the third as they capitalized on some sustained pressure in the offensive zone. TrevorDaley fed the puck to Nichushkin, who was all alone in the slot for a one-timer that beat Stalock. The Sharks had taken the lead late in the second period when Havlat deftly redirected a point shot from ScottHannan past Lehtonen for his fourth goal this season. McLellan looked for a spark for his struggling team, which had scored just five goals in the previous five games. He moved PatrickMarleau to a line with JoeThornton and BrentBurns, while using JoePavelski as the centre between Wingels and MattNieto. It failed to pay early dividends as the Sharks were held scoreless in the first period for the seventh time in the past eight games. Stalock made sure they didnt end the period with a deficit when he made a scintillating glove save to rob JamieBenn late in the period. "It was kind of a desperation save where I had to make a big save," Stalock said. "Those are saves it would be nice to maybe look a little simpler. Its something to work on." NOTES: McLellan tied Darryl Sutter for most games coached in franchise history with 434. ... Hannan had two assists for his first two-point game since Nov. 19, 2010, for Colorado against the Rangers. ... The Stars fell to 3-4-0 on the second night of back-to-back games. ... Nieto did not return after blocking a shot by Trevor Dale8y in the closing seconds of the second period. ... F AdamBurish returned from a back injury to play for the first time this season for the Sharks. Edgar Jones Jerseys . Headlining the 27 players were first-round NHL draftees Rasmus Ristolainen and Teuvo Teravainen. Both players are returnees from the 2013 Finnish World Junior team. Nick Hayden Jersey Dallas Cowboys . "Its huge," Casey said of Torontos matchup with the fifth-place Hawks, who sit 1.5 games behind the Raptors for third place in the Eastern Conference. "Its not like in the past where games dont matter. In the past we were building, getting guys experience. As Canadians waited anxiously for the Team Canada Mens Hockey roster announcement Tuesday, there was constant debate. Who should be picked? Who is going to get left behind? This had been building for years. Then, when they finally got around to making the announcement, there were naturally some selections that caused some debate. Nothing off the rails -- its not like they took PetrNedved or HenrikTallinder -- but there were decisions made that will come under the microscope if Canada doesnt repeat with a gold medal. If they do repeat, never mind any questions, winning cures all. So, the roster has been picked, time to take stock. In goal, RobertoLuongo was automatic. He won gold in the last Olympics and has been very strong for the Vancouver Canucks -- his .922 save percentage is his second-best over the past decade. Luongo has been dealing with a few injuries lately, though it doesnt appear to be an issue for a month from now. He also has the highest save percentage among Canadian goaltenders since 2010 (minimum 100 games). CareyPrice, who fits second on that list, is having the best season of his career, with a .928 save percentage. Price is 26-years-old, and if the NHL is going to send players to future Olympics (or even future World Cups), Price is at the head of the class to be Canadas goaltender of the future, if not the present. To be clear, he may already be the goaltender of the present. That leaves us with MikeSmith for the third spot. He does rank third among Canadian goaltenders in save percentage since 2010, but Smith is basically riding off his exceptional 2011-2012 season, during which he posted a .930 save percentage. If the average starting goaltender is putting up a save percentage of about .915 or so, Smith has been below average in every other season of his career, including a .911 save percentage in 69 games with the Phoenix Coyotes this year and last. Smith is also 31-years-old, so may not have future Olympic value. So who might have challenged for that spot? If we take down the minimum of games played to 50 for the link above, then we get JoshHarding, JonathanBernier and BradenHoltby coming in ahead of Smith. The way Harding has played this season, I would have been inclined to include him, but recent uneasiness over his MS medication, combined with a limited track record, make it easy enough to exclude him. Holtby has been pretty solid since joining the Capitals, but even he has acknowledged recently that hes lost his confidence (allowing 15 goals in his past three starts, on 83 shots, will do that) and rookie PhilippGrubauer is taking more starts for Washington. Which brings us to Bernier, who also has a limited track record, but hes posted a .928 save percentage in 30 games this year, and that includes Saturday night, when he had his worst start of the season (in terms of save percentage), allowing five goals on 32 shots (in about 37 minutes) against the Rangers. A 25-year-old who is just coming into a starting role, Bernier made more sense in the number three hole for me. If he ever did have to play, youd have to figure Bernier would appreciate a team that might be able to hold opponents under 40 shots per game. On defence, there are some automatic picks. SheaWeber, DuncanKeith, DrewDoughty and AlexPietrangelo were pretty straight-forward. The lightning rod was Montreals P.K.Subban, last years Norris Trophy winner who seemed hard-pressed to get into the top six with Weber, Doughty and Pietrangelo ahead of him on the right side, and apparently Team Canada is extremely committed to left-right balance on their blueline. Subban made the squad, though projections seem to have him fitting as a seventh defenceman. Where you are are the outset isnt necessarily where you end up in an Olympic tournament, however. In 2010, JonathanToews was considered the 13th forward for Team Canada then, by tournaments end, he was Canadas leading scorer with eight points in seven games. So it could be with Subban, who can step into a role on the power play and move up the depth chart if Canada needs an offensive jolt. The Subban issue wasnt the only one to consider, however. On the left side -- remember, they have to shoot left! -- JayBouwmeester, Marc-EdouardVlasic and DanHamhuis are very good NHL defencemen, but are they Olympic team good? There are some that will argue Bouwmeester is a product of playing alongside Pietrangelo. Bouwmeester has size and can skate, but if hes coming along because hes Pietrangelos partner, then hes getting that treatment ahead of BrentSeabrook, who is paired with DuncanKeith in Chicago. Seabrook cant skate like Bouwmeester, but hes a physical, two-time Cup-winner, who may be having the best season of his career. Vlasic is steady, safe and reliable. Hes played a defensive role from the moment he came into the league and thats fine. DanHamhuis isnt a dramatically different player. He offers more offence but, like Vlasic, has handled tough matchups throughout his career, particularly this year, and has done well. Since 2010, Hamhuis is the easy leader in plus-minus among Canadian NHL defencemen. Seabrook ranks third, among those with at least 4000 minutes played. Back to Subban for a moment. Given the resumes of Bouwmeester, Vlasic and Hamhuis, its hard to imagine that there isnt an opportunity for Subban to move up the projected depth chart, unless he really is incapable of playing -- or the coaching staff if unwilling to try him on -- the left side. Aside from Seabrook, there arent any huge omissions. DionPhaneuf is probably worthy of discussion because he faces the oppositions best night-in and night-out, while MarkGiordano and KrisLetang have been productive enough when theyve been healthy this year, but the story of Canadas defence, may be more one of how the minutes are allocated and that will keep Subban, and his usage, in the spotlight. Canada has an abundance of great forward options and yet there was still a tier of guys above the rest, who were locks from the get-go. SidneyCrosby, JonathanToews, RyanGetzlaf, CoreyPerry, PatriceBergeron and JohnTavares would fall under that banner, while StevenStamkos only question is health as he recovers from a broken leg. That meant Stamkos had to be named now, leaving open the option of replacing him if hes not ready to play, as opposed to trying to replace someone later once its known Stamkos is healthy. Then some young guys, JamieBenn annd MattDuchene, jumped up and grabbed spots and they are reasonable enough for a team that wants some of the speed that comes from young legs. Tony Romo Jerseys. Theyre having productive seasons and should have some versatility to move around the lineup, if need be. They held the edge over other young candidates, like TaylorHall and LoganCouture. PatrickSharp forced his way onto the team, on pace for the best season of his career. With Stanley Cups, a solid performance in the 2012 World Championships and versatility that allows him to move about the lineup, Sharp couldnt be overlooked. Which brings us to the bubble. Veteran forwards JeffCarter, PatrickMarleau and RickNash are among the more contentious inclusions, though a separate category could be left for Penguins left winger ChrisKunitz. Kunitz has 99 points in 92 games over the past two seasons and those numbers draw attention, but critics are quick to point out how Kunitzs production tails off dramatically when hes not skating on a line with the Best Player in the World. Now, maybe thats not an issue, because Kunitz will presumably get a shot at playing on Crosbys wing in the Olympics, but if Team Canada decides to split them up for whatever reason, where then would Kunitz fit in the equation? Alongside former Anaheim linemates RyanGetzlaf and CoreyPerry would be an option but the point is that if Kunitz isnt with Crosby, it becomes more difficult to include him on the Team Canada roster at all. In a short tournament, there is some justification for having ready-made chemistry. If not for scoring the Golden Goal in Vancouver in 2010, Crosbys Olympic experience would be remembered far less favourably. He struggled to create offence against quality opposition, so there is some credence to the idea that giving Crosby his regular linemate could help him be more comfortable and putting your best player in the best position to succeed is a worthwhile endeavour. At the same time, if a decent player like Kunitz can go from scoring 50-60 points to scoring better than a point-per-game this year, then what might a player with a higher ceiling do with Crosby? It would seem the potential would be even greater if, say, TaylorHall was put on Crosbys wing, but there is also the chance that it wouldnt work out and that makes the selection of Kunitz more appealing because, playing with Crosby, hes a known commodity. There are some common threads that run through the selections of JeffCarter, PatrickMarleau and RickNash. They all have good size and they are all strong skaters. Theyre also three of 11 Canadian forwards to have scored at least .40 goals per game since the 2010-2011 season (or a 33-goal pace in an 82-game season). Of those 11, only two -- Pittsburghs JamesNeal and Bostons JaromeIginla -- werent included on the Canadian roster. Iginlas in the twilight of his career and Neal, while amazing when healthy this year, has missed a lot of time and an argument can be made that he, too, has been propped up by his centre in Pittsburgh -- usually EvgeniMalkin, but also Crosby recently -- and if a Penguin is going to come to ride shotgun with Crosby, Kunitz is the choice. But, including these players comes at a price and that is in the form of the players that are excluded from the roster as a result. The two most notable are Tampa Bays MartinSt.Louis and Philadelphias ClaudeGiroux. St. Louis, whose GM for the Lightning is SteveYzerman, the GM for Team Canada, led the league in scoring last season but, with Stamkos sidelined, St. Louis has been held to his lowest points per game (0.90) since 2005-2006. Even if hes a freak of nature, its easy to look at the numbers for an undersized 38-year-old and find perceived better alternatives. Bet it was a tough phone call for Yzerman to make. Giroux got a bad rap early in the year for his lack of production, but its never accompanied with the note that he had to undergo finger surgery late in the summer. Since being held off the scoresheet in the first five games of the season, Giroux has 38 points in 37 games, re-establishing his credentials as a point-per-game scorer and it would be really easy to see Giroux on this Canadian roster, but hes currently on the outside looking in, needing either an injury or Stamkoss recovery to stall before getting a chance. Carolinas EricStaal got off to a slow start, which may well have been due to a knee injury suffered playing for Canada at the World Championships last spring, but does have 26 points in his past 24 games, so hes rounding into form and has lots of experience at an elite level, but his name wasnt as prominently involved in speculationthroughout the process, possibly due tohis scoring nine points in 18 games to start the season. Beyond those veteran options, the most notable exclusions are rising young stars, players that have the talent, but not the experience of playing at such an elite level. San Joses LoganCouture might be the most notable exclusion among the young guns, but if the team was ever inclined to bypass experience and go with pure skill, TaylorHall, TylerSeguin and JeffSkinner -- three of the top seven picks in the 2010 Draft, are enjoying very productive seasons. Even so, Hockey Canada does not have a track record of going especially young in best-on-best tournaments so, right or wrong, it seemed like a reach for any of the three to get serious consideration. There is nearly a month before the Winter Olympics kick off in Sochi, Russia, so there will be more time to debate Canadas roster and talk about the calibre of the mythical second Canadian team, and it wont much matter who is on the roster if Canada wins gold. If they dont, and the left-side defence is shaky or the bubble guys dont produce, then the debate will rage. Each country has its share of quality players left home for the Olympics. Team USA had no room for BobbyRyan and KeithYandle; Sweden bypassed VictorHedman, Russia said nyet to AlexanderSemin and the Czech Republic wanted no part of RadimVrbata, but was cool with 42-year-old PetrNedved. Such is the depth of the talent in the pool, Canada is drawing a finer line between those selected and those that just miss, but its the number of quality options available that makes the task of selecting so difficult and leaves management open to be second-guessed. And winning goldwill be the only way to quiet the naysayers. No pressure, eh?cheap jerseys cheap jerseys from china ' ' ' |

Stat of the week!!! Torontos back-up quarterback, third-year player from Edinboro, Trevor Harris, had two special teams tackles. Jim Palmer Jersey . Never a good thing when thats happening. Although Harris did show us 400-metre strength, speed and endurance while tracking down the speedy returner from West Virginia, Jock Saunders, on the missed field goal return of 121 yards. That play showcases how unpredictable and explosive our great brand of football can be here in Canada and also gives us an insight as to how you can make a bye week only two weeks into the season pay off. To ensure there were no blues, loss of continuity or complacency pertaining to the execution of schemes, the Stampeders coaching staff and players reloaded and actually extended their playbook. This was evident on Saunders missed field goal return. Coach Mark Kilam, in his tenth year coaching for the Stampeders, and fifth as special teams coordinator, had his return teams locked, loaded and dialed in, ready to pounce on this very opportunity. Anticipating a missed field goal, a wall return left was executed like clock work. Saunders, while making an acrobatic catch on the errant field goal attempt as he was tight roping the very back of the end zone, started to his left and quickly became the beneficiary of his teammates hustle and preparation. Before you knew it, Saunders, the first year Stampeder, was bursting down the sideline with Kilam himself not far behind. With sheer determination and athletic ability, Argonaut Harris, who was holding for third year kicker from Alabama-Birmingham, Swayze Waters, on the field goal attempt, somehow tracked down Saunders. Sometimes we see these extra effort and hustle plays pay off, but in this case the Stamps third year quarterback, from Eastern Washington, Bo Levi Mitchell cashed in quickly with a quick TD strike. Bang, ten-point swing just like that! Exciting and unpredictable. To have a designed missed field goal return implemented at this juncture of the season is one thing, but to be able to execute all the moving parts that are required in order to pull it off, is really heady stuff. Another example of how Calgary used the extra prep time to their advantage was the direct snap to Saunders, throwback to Mitchell, chunk it over the top to Anthony Parker. This early in the season, teams are working diligently to find rhythm and consistency in the basics of their respective systems, let alone trying to master plays like the flea-flicker. Maybe Saunders was the only running back who had the ability to throw it back to Mitchell, but to have that play in the game plan at this stage and the way it was executed, is an indicator that Calgary had the extra time and spent it wisely. If you still are not convinced that this extra week of prep time holds merit for teams and in this case the Stampeders, look to whom the Stamps had to replace in only their second game of the season. Missing was Jon Cornish, reigning Most Outstanding Player in the CFL and two electrifying receivers in Nik Lewis and Mo Price. The Stamps offence found a way to survive and even thrive. Second year receiver from Texas A&M, Jeff Fuller flexed his athletic ability and found the end zone twice, picking up some of the slack. Fourth year receiver from University of Calgary, Anthony Parker seemed well versed and more at ease performing his responsibilities, contributing four catches for 101 yards and a score. Third year running back, also from the University of Calgary, Matt Walter continues to round out into form when given the opportunity. Id also say that Walter took on more of a work load than usual in this contest because of the added time the Stamps were afforded. Walter was involved downfield in the passing game on play 115 from scrimmage, a fake screen pass. This is when he releases out of the backfield giving the defence a look like he is going to block the defender whos covering the receiver faking the hitch screen and then at the last possible moment, he turns it up the rail as the defence bites on the screen. You see it all the time in the CFL but primarily with your starters executing these timing plays, not your back ups. Not a believer yet? How about the Stampeders defence shutting down the high powered offence of Toronto led by 12-year veteran quarterback from Sacramento State, Ricky Ray. Ray had his streak of ten games in a row throwing a touchdown pass broken. We are talking about an offence that put up 559 total yards of offence against the defending Grey Cup Champion Saskatchewan Roughriders defence the week before and looked lethal. Defensive coordinator Rich Stubler had his men on point to where they held the Ray-led Argos out of the end zone for just the second time since Ray has been an Argo. Now I must say Ray and company moved the ball between the twenties but thats where the well devised defensive gameplan came into play. Dont give up the big play and make Toronto be patient series after series. In other words, play everything in front of you and rally to the ball. Certainly easier said than done, but the plan was implemented and well executed. So an early quirk/bye in the schedule actually pays off for the Stampeders as they were able to prepare, plug and play players without missing a beat and actually extend a few of their philosophies and schemes in only Week 2 of the season. Calgarys next bye week is a long ways off, coming in Week 16. Ill bet you they will embrace that bye week as much and if not more than they did in Week 2! Heres a look at the remaining bye weeks for each CFL team. Week 1 Ottawa (makes sense to give them a bit more time)Week 2 Calgary (see article above)Week 3 Hamilton (able to get Masoli and LeFevour up to speed and Fantuz and Ellingson another week)Week 4 Saskatchewan (ouch, a two-game losing streak going into this stretch is ugly)Week 5 MontrealWeek 6 EdmontonWeek 7 Toronto (seems like they could use it now)Week 8 None, that means somebody has to play twice during this week and thats TorontoWeek 9 Hamilton Week 10 BCWeek 11 TorontoWeek 12 OttawaWeek 13 WinnipegWeek 14 Toronto (Damn, Toronto gets three, making up for Week 8)Week 15 MontrealWeek 16 CalgaryWeek 17 BCWeek 18 EdmontonWeek 19 SaskatchewanWeek 20 Winnipeg Ready Break!!! Dylan Bundy Jersey . LUCIE, Fla. J.J. Hardy Orioles Jersey . Entering the day in second place behind overnight leader Vincenzo Nibali, the 41-year-old Horner pulled away from the Giro dItalia champion over the final meters of the uphill ascent to turn a three-second deficit into a three-second lead with just two days to go.BERLIN - Freiburg gained some hope in the battle against relegation from the Bundesliga by earning a 0-0 draw at Hertha Berlin on Friday. Hertha threatened early when Sami Allagui narrowly missed the target in the first minute. But the home side didnt create any real chances until late in the uneventful game, when Adrian Ramos had two long-range shots barely tipped over by Freiburgs goalkeepeer Oliver Baumann. Wei-Yin Chen Orioles Jersey. On the other side, Herthas goalkeeper Thomas Kraft foiled three attempts by Admir Mehmedi. Hertha remained winless at home in three straight games. The point pulled Freiburg even with Hamburger SV and Stuttgart on 19 points, but it stayed next-to-last on goal difference. Promoted Hertha suffered a setback in efforts to reach the Europa League. cheap jerseys cheap jerseys from china ' ' ' |

61 yards. Green now lead
MELBOURNE, Australia -- Forward Jack Gunston kicked four goals as the Hawthorn Hawks beat the Fremantle Dockers 11. jerseys nfl cheap free shipping .11 (77) to 8.14 (62) on Saturday to win the Australian Football League championship for the 11th time at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Hawthorn led 5.5 (35) to 1.6 (12) after a fast-paced but low-scoring first half - the first since 1960 to see only six goals scored. Playing in their first-ever Grand Final, Fremantle narrowed Hawthorns lead to 6.5 (41) to 5.8 (38) midway through the third quarter, but late goals by Luke Breust and Bradley Hill allowed the Hawks to hold on and to claim their first AFL title since 2008. Hawthorn were top qualifiers after the regular season and were playing in the Grand Final for the third time in six years. Their end-to-end win -- Gunston kicked the opening goal after 3 minutes, 39 seconds -- allowed them to finally shed a reputation as under-achievers after their upset, 10-point loss to Sydney in last years grand final and their three-point loss to Collingwood in the 2011 preliminary final. They remain the only club to have won at least one premiership per decade since the 1960s, accumulating 11 titles since 1961. A total of 10 Hawthorn players became two-time premiership winners, including Shaun Burgoyne, who won with Port Adelaide in 2004 and superstar Lance Franklin, who kicked one goal in the first quarter in another quiet match. Coach Ross Lyon, who led Fremantle into the premiership decider for the first time in their 19-year history, remained without a win in four Grand Finals. He guided St. Kilda to the premiership deciders in 2009 and 2010, when a replay was needed to find the champion. Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson won the premiership for the second time in his nine-year reign. Gunstons three first-half goals were crucial in a close-fought match, in which Fremantle didnt kick their first goal -- through Tendai Mzungu -- until the 12th minute of the second quarter. By that stage Hawthorn had four goals and Gunston strengthened their position when he followed Mzungus major with his third goal. In a match which was occasionally made scrappy by wet conditions, Fremantle dominated the ruck in the first half through Aaron Sandilands without turning possession into points. Midfielders David Mundy, Nathan Fyfe, Michael Barlow and Stephen Hill led Fremantles strong start to the third quarter when it kicked five of the first seven goals. But Fremantle paid for their inaccuracy, putting four shots out on the full and wasting late chances by kicking 2.4 in the final quarter. Brian Lake won the Norm Smith Medal as the best afield, claiming his first premiership medal after losing three preliminary finals with the Western Bulldogs. Jordan Lewis, Josh Gibson, Grant Brichall and Cyril Rioli, who laid seven tackles, were also prominent for Hawthorn while Fremantle tagger Ryan Crowley kept Sam Mitchell to just 12 touches. jerseys from china . The World Group first round series will now continue Monday with Spain leading 1-0. Earlier Sunday, Czech Klara Zakopalova led the second singles match against Maria Torro-Flor 6-3, 2-0. jerseys nfl cheap authentic . It all paid off Friday night, when the Toronto right-hander earned his first victory since 2008 with an effective and emotional effort at Baltimore. McGowan allowed five hits over 6 1-3 innings, and the Blue Jays used two unearned runs to beat ChrisTillman and the Orioles 2-0. FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- For a guy who loves to talk on the field, New Englands AqibTalib sure has been quiet lately. The Patriots cornerback injured his hip in the Patriots win against New Orleans on Oct. 13 and missed the next three games. He hadnt spoken after practice until Thursday, when he said hes eager to return to the field Monday night for New Englands game against the Carolina Panthers. "Im practicing good," Talib said, with a wide grin. "Day to day. Trying to get back." Fresh off the Patriots bye last week, Talib was a limited participant in Thursdays practice. Thats the same designation hes had for a while, and he said watching his teammates play without him was "the worst thing in the world." Coach Bill Belichick was more candid than usual when asked about the player who leads the team with four interceptions and whos been solely responsible for shutting down some of the leagues elite pass catchers. "Hes continued to progress. Well keep doing, as they can tolerate it, do more and evaluate how they do at a little bit higher level," Belichick said. "Then if that goes well, then ramp it up and see where we are as we go through the week." New Englands secondary withstood the absence of its top playmaker, going 2-1 during the stretch. The Patriots (7-2) could benefit from his return against the Panthers (6-3), who have won five straight games and scored 30 or more points in five of their past seven. "Unbelievable player, happy to have him on the field with us," said defensive end RobNinkovich. "I think the guys that stepped in when he was gone, they did a great job, but having him back is just going to help us as far as have more depth and keep guys rolling." Should Talib return for New Englands only Monday night game this season, he likely will be matched up with one of the most successful receivers of the past decade in SteveSmith. Talib, who spent his first fouur-plus seasons playing in the NFC South with Tampa Bay, is familiar with the flashy veteran. wholesale jerseys. "He brings it every Sunday or Monday or whenever the game is," Talib said. "I think if youre competitive like that, youre going to be pretty successful." Smith has tallied more than 800 receptions and 11,000 yards in his career, and has a team-high 42 catches for 450 yards and three touchdowns this season. Talib knows exactly what to expect from Smith -- his best effort and a lot of chatter. "Youve got a lot of guys who do a lot of talking to (the media), and we get out there and they dont say too much on the field," Talib said. "But Steve is definitely one of those guys, hes going to do it on the field." Not unlike Talib. "Yeah," he said with a smile, "I say a couple words." Shadowing the oppositions top threat is becoming commonplace for Talib. JulioJones was near the top of the league in every major category when Talib held him to a season-low six catches. He caught just three of his first 10 for 22 yards. The following week, Talibs talents helped limit Cincinnatis A.J.Green to five catches for 61 yards. Green now leads the league in yards and ranks second in receptions. And still to come was his premier performance, spearheading an effort to shut down New Orleans tight end JimmyGraham, who tops all receivers with 10 touchdowns but was held without a catch against New England for the first time in a span of 46 games. Belichick went so far as to compare Talib to former Patriots cornerback TyLaw. "Maybe Ty would be similar in that he was a good corner and you could put him on a lot of players and not maybe feel like you need to give him a lot of help," he said. "I think Talib is a guy that we have a lot of confidence in and probably would treat his matchups a little bit differently than weve treated some other ones in the past." cheap jerseys cheap jerseys from china ' ' ' |

COSTA DO SAUIPE, Brazil -- At least three World Cup stadiums in Brazil will not be finished by the end of December as FIFA requested. Carl Bradford Womens Jersey . Soccers governing body said Tuesday the stadiums in Sao Paulo, Curitiba and Cuiaba are unable to meet the deadline because of construction delays. The announcement came after the World Cup organizing committee received updates from the six host cities that still must turn over the venues for next years tournament. The other six were ready for this years Confederations Cup. "Two stadiums will be delivered more in the region of February than in January or December," FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke said. "Curitiba is the one where we are facing the most problems. Clearly, Curitiba will not be delivered before the end of February 2014, so thats a fact." The stadium in Cuiaba also is expected to be ready in February, four months before the World Cup opens on June 12. FIFA said it still doesnt know when it will have the venue in Sao Paulo, where a crane collapse last week killed two workers and damaged part of the stadium. A report on the scale of the damage is expected by the end of the week. "We are in a period of time when the opening game of the World Cup will be played in Sao Paulo," Valcke said. "We are not in a crisis mood where we are looking for an alternative to Sao Paulo. We are confident they can deliver the stadium on time (for the opener.)" The Sao Paulo venue, which will host the opening match, was almost ready when a giant crane buckled while hoisting a 500-ton metal structure that clipped part of the roof and cut through a huge lighting panel that runs across the venues outer facade. FIFA said it would not tolerate the same kinds of delays that plagued the Confederations Cup, when only two of the six venues were completed by the original deadline. Valcke said FIFA is already rearranging plans for the installation of temporary facilities at the venues that also will not be delivered by the deadline. FIFA President Sepp Blatter downplayed the delays. "There are some small delays in construction of stadia, but so small that, with one exception, we can just close our eyes and say everything will be ready," Blatter said. FIFA wants the stadiums ready at least six months in advance mainly so there is time for at least two test events in each host city. It says there is no way of moving games because about 1 million tickets have already been sold for next years tournament. TORONTO -- Four days after falling apart against the San Jose Earthquakes, Toronto FC has a chance to redeem itself. Daryl Smith Jersey . But it wont be easy changing TFCs fortunes Wednesday night as the struggling MLS side hosts Mexicos Santos Laguna in the opening leg of the CONCACAF Champions League semifinal. Toronto has been woefully wobbly of late. The pre-season high of eliminating the MLS champion Los Angeles Galaxy in the quarter-finals has been extinguished by worrying league results. After losses of 3-1 in Seattle and 3-0 in Saturdays home opener against San Jose, goalkeeper Milos Kocic says its time to reboot. "San Jose was a big wake-up for us," said Kocic, who was clearly steamed after the Earthquakes debacle. "I want to get out on the field and show that we are worth more than what we showed against San Jose," he added. He isnt the only one relishing the opportunity to author a different outcome. "Thats football, you always have a second chance," said an optimistic assistant coach Bob de Klerk. The other semifinal also opens Wednesday with defending champion Monterrey hosting Pumas in an all-Mexican clash. Mexican teams have dominated the CONCACAF Champions League since the format was revamped in 2008-09. Mexican sides won it the first three years and only one MLS team (Real Salt Lake) has made it to the final. Twelve of the last 16 semifinalists have been Mexican. Part of the reason is the quality of top Mexican sides. Another is that the playoffs fall when Mexican clubs are well into their season, compared to MLS sides that are just starting their campaign. Toronto has already made Canadian club history by progressing this far in the club championship for North and Central America and the Caribbean. For a club that has failed to make the MLS playoffs in its first five seasons (Torontos career MLS record is 40-69-47), this current tournament run has offered a rare chance to shine. Toronto will have to steady the ship against a high-scoring side that currently tops the Mexican league with an 8-2-2 record and has won four straight. "Theyre a very good team," said de Klerk. "If you watched our (CONCACAF Champions League group stage) game against Pumas in Mexico, we had a difficult time over there -- a very difficult match. "And theyre are the highest in the Mexico league, higher than Pumas so that says enough." Pumas, which blanked Toronto 4-0 in Mexico and tied 1-1 at BMO Field, currently stands 14th in the Mexican standings -- 15 points behind Santos Laguna. Santos showed its teeth in the second leg of its quarter-final with Seattle, pouring in four goals in the second half to defeat the visiting Sounders 6-1 on the day and 7-3 on aggregate. Toronto reached out to Seattle scouts for some intel on the Mexicans but it sounds like they did not share that much. "They told us a little bit," said de Klerk. One storyline is worrying -- Santos can score goals and Toronto is having problems stopping them. The Mexican side led the competition in scoring in group play and overall has scored 23 goals in eight games. It stands second in scoring in Mexican league play with 22 goals in 12 games. "They have pure finishers," said forward Ryan Johnson, pointing to the likes of U.S. international Herculez Gomez. Gomez is a colourful character who tweets in English and Spanish -- sometimes at the same time as in "Gracias bro." He did his part for improving North American relations off the field by tweeting upon arrival: "Your city is stunning. Absolutely one of my favorites. If you see me around town come and say hi, eh!" He will undoubtedly be less charitable Wednesday. Toronto will be looking to avoid the kind of slow start it exhibited Saturday. "Its very important for all of us to start from Minute One, not to give away easy stuff around the field," Kocic said pointedly. "And fight for every 50-50 ball and be tough on the Mexican team. Dont let them play their game." Expect Toronto to play a physical game against the Mexicans, who may be shivering. The forecast calls for 10 degrees and showers, a far cry from the 30 and rain expected in Torreon at the same time. A good result at home is imperative if Toronto is to have some breathing room in the second leg April 4 in Torreon. "Its going to be a tough place to go," said defender Richard Eckersley. "So this game is massive (Wednesday)." An ideal result would be a shutout win, which may be asking for a lot. Toronto hasnt had a shutout in its last 10 league games. With backup keeper Stefan Frei sidelined with a broken leg, Toronto elected to play it safe Tuesday by keeping Kocic out of a training game. Brian Rowe, one of the leagues designated emergency keepers, and academy goalie Quillan Roberts played instead. Kocic trained with the goalies prior to the game and then went in, explaining later that his leg was a little tired from kicking during the windy San Jose game. During Tuesdays training, de Klerk fielded a backline of Eckersley, Ty Harden, Miguel Aceval and Ashtone Morgan behind holding midfielders Julian de Guzman and Terry Dunfield. New signing Efrain Burgos Jr. played behind an attacking trio of Johnson, Danny Koevermans and Nick Soolsma. De Klerk attributed the recent defensive lapses to players giving too much space and too much time. Like manager Aron Winter, who was absent Tuesday to attend what was called a routine MLSE board meeting, the assistant coach also pointed to the absence of captain Torsten Frings. The former German international, currently rehabbing a hamstring strain, has been the glue in the Toronto backline when healthy. But Kocic refuses to blame injuries, saying the remaining players have to stay focused. "You cant depend on one player. And if hes not here with us, what can you do?" The winner of the CONCACAF Champions League earns bragging rights and a trip to the FIFA Club World Cup. Its a long soccer journey that started last year with Toronto winning the Canadian championship, then surviving the pool stage and quarter-finals. "We didnt come this far to mess it up," Johnson said. "Were two games away from a final," he added. "And I havent been in a final for a while ... Were very close to really achieving something big here." DENVER -- San Diego linebacker MantiTeo suffered a concussion late in the first half and wont return to Sundays AFC divisional playoff game against the Denver Broncos.Jean Segura Brewers Jersey . Punter MikeScifres was also shaken up late in the first half. He gingerly punted in the third quarter despite an aching back. The Broncos lost cornerback ChrisHarris Jr. for the game in the third quarter with a knee and ankle injury. Former San Diego defensive back QuentinJammer took his place in the field. Teo was hurt trying to tackle running back KnowshonMoreno near the goal line. The rookie linebacker was helped to the sideline and then headed into the locker room for evaluation. Scifres was banged up trying to make a tackle on EricDeckers long punt return. Scifres stayed down for several minutes before being helped to the bench. Matt Garza Brewers Jersey . Filion, from Laval, Que., and Montreals Benfeito finished third with 326.10 points. Ruolin Chen and Hao Wang of China won gold with 360.66 points and Paola Espinosa and Alejandra Orozco of Mexico were second at 327. Rickie Weeks Brewers Jersey . - Eries top line of Dane Fox, Connor Brown and Connor McDavid combined for six goals and 14 points as the Otters crushed the visiting Windsor Spitfires 9-0 on Sunday in Ontario Hockey League play.MILAN, Italy - Italy striker Antonio Cassano will have "minor" heart surgery that will likely enable him to play again in a few months, AC Milan said Wednesday. Cassano has been at the Policlinico facility since Saturday, when he was taken for tests after suffering what the club described as a brain problem on the team plane following the teams 3-2 victory over Roma. The 29-year-old Cassano was reportedly joking with teammates on the plane, before suddenly developing problems with his vision, speech and movement. Milan said in a statement that Cassano will undergo the heart procedure sometime in the next few days, and that his recovery time will be better determined after the surgery. "Presumably within four, five or six months Cassano should be cleared to play," Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani said. Cassano has a cardiac anomaly which caused a brain problem due to impaired blood flow, the club said. "He has a minor heart problem that caused this minor discomfort and over the next few days he will undergo surgery to close the opening," Galliani said. Combined with knee surgery for Giuseppe Rossi last week, Cassanos condition leaves Italy without its two starting forwards as it prepares for next years European Championship. Martin Maldonado Brewers Jersey. Cassano already missed the 1-1 draw with BATE Borisov on Tuesday that qualified Milan for the next round of the Champions League. After Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored against BATE, teammate Kevin-Prince Boateng celebrated by lifting his jersey to reveal another jersey with Cassanos name and No. 99 on it. A steady stream of current and former teammates have been visiting Cassano, and even Diego Maradona wrote a letter of support that was published in Corriere dello Sport on Wednesday. "I know about the thoughts, worries and torments that are going through your mind. I know that feeling of confusion and, why not, even solitude, that makes everything suddenly look black," Maradona wrote. "I know well, and thats why I feel close to you and Rino Gattuso, who is also experiencing a sad period." Cassanos hospitalization came less than a week after Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso announced the extent of a nerve problem affecting his left eye, which could keep him out for months, or the rest of the season. Milan has also been without forward Alexandre Pato due to a thigh injury, leaving Ibrahimovic and Robinho as the clubs only two healthy strikers. cheap jerseys cheap jerseys from china ' ' ' |

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- Defending champion Novak Djokovic needed less than an hour to advance at the Dubai Championships on Wednesday, while Roger Federer faced a struggle to seal his place in the quarterfinals. Terrelle Pryor Jerseys . Top-seeded Djokovic swept to a 6-1, 6-3 win over 51st-ranked Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain in just 57 minutes, but fourth-seeded Federer had to see off a serious challenge from 48th-ranked Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic before coming through 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-3. "I have done really well today from the first to the last point," Djokovic said. "There was no major ups and downs, especially with the serve that helped me to win comfortably my service games, a lot of free points." In the first set, Djokovic raced to a 5-0 lead before Bautista Agut held serve to win his only game in the set. The only hiccup Djokovic had in the second set was when serving for the match at 5-2. He dropped his serve in that game but broke serve in the next to close out the match. Djokovic will play sixth-seeded Mikhail Youzhny, who beat British wildcard recipient James Ward 6-1, 7-6 (3). Federer came into his two hour, eight minute match with a 12-2 winning record over Stepanek. Hes now won their last nine meetings dating back to the 2008 Rome quarterfinals. "I got broken four times which is difficult, but its good to win those type of matches," said Federer, who faced eight break points against his serve. "Im happy to get through. "It didnt look good there for a while, but I got it done." Federer handled the first set with confidence, but started to falter as Stepanek became more aggressive in the second set. Federer managed to rebound from 4-2 down in the second set to force a tiebreaker -- where Stepanek raced into a 6-2 and a first set point when Federer double faulted. Stepanek won the set on his third set point when Federer netted a forehand. Stepanek also took an early 2-0 lead in the third set, but Federer rebounded to go ahead 5-2 to serve for the match. Federers serve was broken when he double faulted in the eighth game. Stepanek, however, surrendered his serve in the next game to allow Federer to move into the quarterfinals. Hell now face another Czech player in Lukas Rosol, who upset eighth-seeded Dmitry Tursunov of Russia 6-4, 7-6 (4). "Today was quite frustrating," Federer said. "I had momentum on my side at the beginning, but it was tough to keep it going. "After the first set I was under pressure the entire match." Like Djokovic, third-seeded Tomas Berdych had an easy path to the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine. Berdych, who will face fifth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarterfinals, has won his last eight matches. Despite Berdych having trouble with his first serve -- his percentage was a ghastly 37 per cent -- he controlled the match. He lost his serve once, and won 12 of the last 14 points. "I was working a little more on my return stats than on my service stats," Berdych said. "The main focus really for the next days is to get my percentage of the first serve back and really find a nice and sweet rhythm for my serve." Tsonga won his second-round match by walkover when his opponent, Nikolay Davydenko, withdrew with a rib injury. Seventh-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Andrea Seppi of Italy. Kohlschreiber will play Tunisian wild card Malek Jaziri, who beat Somdev Devvarman of India 6-3, 7-5.Zach Miller . -- As expected, coach John Fox has officially ruled out WesWelker for Denvers game against San Diego on Thursday night because of a concussion. Jon Ryan Jerseys . Ray gave up one run in his major league debut and got plenty of run support, especially from MiguelCabrera, to help Detroit rout the Houston Astros 11-4 on Tuesday night for its season-high seventh straight win.MINNEAPOLIS - Even with a 51-point game and a Slam Dunk Contest title on his resume - two dunk titles, depending on whether or not you took this years contest seriously - TerrenceRoss is still taking people by surprise, even his own teammates. The Raptors second-year forward has been one of the primary beneficiaries of the early-season trade, breaking out and becoming a vital part of his teams success on both ends of the floor. Around the league, teams are starting to take notice and feature Ross more predominately in their pre-game scouting reports but its not just the opposition that hes impressing. After missing his first game of the season with an ankle sprain last week, Ross returned to action on Friday, knocking down six of eight attempts from three-point range while scoring 18 points in 26 minutes. Following the win over Sacramento, PatrickPatterson - acquired in that deal with the Kings in December - was asked who has surprised him the most since coming to Toronto. "Terrence," he respondedimmediately. "Terrence by far. I had no idea he could shoot like that. I always knew about his athleticism, I watched him in college. I knew about his scoring ability, his ability to attack the rim. Hes a solid defender as well. Hes got some good hands on him as well, but for him to be able to knock down that three at such a consistent rate, come off screen and rolls and hit that midrange jump shot, I had no idea he was such a great shooter." "Terrence is definitely the guy that has caught my eye since being here." A year ago, Ross - a 22-year-old rookie out of Washington - showed flashes of what he could become. His athleticism stood out, more than anything else, but he lacked consistency and, at times, confidence and focus. Selected with the eighth-overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, Ross was an unknown commodity. If you ask other players, coaches, front office execs or peoplearound the league what they knew about him at that time, most would admit they were aware of one, maybe two facets of his game. Maybe they knew he could shoot or how athletic he was. Few realized how diverse his game could become. Now, with 132 NBA games under his belt and an opportunity to start and log consistent minutes in coach Dwane Caseys rotation, hes looking like a completely different player. Hes looking like a two-way player. Ross has connected on 17 of his last 27 three-point tries, scoring in double-figures in five straight games, matching a career-high he set back in January. "At times it seems effortless to him," Patterson added. "When hes on the perimeter, just one or two dribbles and he just shoots it with great confidence, such great arc, perfect follow-through and it goes in, nothing but net." Like Patterson, JohnSalmons has also beenpleasantly surprised with Rosssarsenal since exchanging Kings purple for Raptors red. "Man, were sitting on the bench, when he shoots, we think its good," said the veteran Salmons, 11 years Rosss senior. "Hes auttomatic. Justin Britt Jersey Seattle Seahawks. Every timehe shoots, we think its good. You dont think that about too many people." Those that have been around Ross long enough, working with him from day one - namely DeMarDeRozan and KyleLowry - say they could see this coming, raving about what theyve seen from the 23-year-old in practice. For everyone else, its taken a bit longer. Ross had his coming-out party at All-Star Weekend in Houston last year when he won the Slam Dunk Contest. He began to turn heads again afterexploding for 51 points in a loss to the Clippers on Jan. 25. "I think the whole league was surprised [after that game]," said former teammate RudyGay. "Hes one of those guys that when hes making shots, there aint no one in the whole league that can stop him. He has so much potential. Now that people are starting to see it, hes getting more attention. Its nothing we didnt know." After Gay was traded Ross seized his spot in the Raptors starting lineup. Since, hes playing just under 30 minutes a night - up from 18 - taking twice as many shots (10.6) and averaging double the points (12.7). Since the trade, he ranks eighth in the NBA in three-pointers made - just above teammate Lowry - shooting the long-ball at a 43 per cent clip, up from 33 per cent in his rookie year. Hes been especially proficient from the corners, where hes drained 39 of his treys since Dec. 8, tied for second-most in the league behind Atlantas KyleKorver. However, its been his defence thats kept him on the floor long enough to knock down all those threes. Ross has earned Caseys trust with his effort, focus and natural ability on the defensive end, routinely tasked with guarding the oppositions best perimeter player. "Hes grown into that role," Casey said. "Hes earned it, he enjoys it, he does a good job with it with his speed and quickness. Hes not totally there yet. I dont want to anoint him as a defensive stopper but hes growing into that role, doing a good job with it, learning each and every [game]." Ross has raised the bar for himself, now the expectations - even internally - have increased. At this point, on this team, Casey is happy with Ross harnessing his efforts on defence and spotting up for open looks but knows hes capable of growing into a more well rounded player. "We want him to be more of a pick-and-roll guy, thats his next step of growth," said Casey. "Making plays for other people will help him a lot. Thats probably where he needs to grow most." How good can he be? Salmons joked that even Ross, himself, is unaware of his full potential. "He dont know," Salmons said with a laugh. "He dont realize how athletic he is." I hope he [knows how good he is]," Patterson said. "The sky is the limit for Terrence. Hes getting better every single game. His confidence is getting higher and higher and hes believing in himself more. I hope he realizes how good he is right now and how great he can be." cheap jerseys cheap jerseys from china ' ' ' |

OAKLAND, Calif. DeMarcus Ware Blue Jersey . -- In one corner of the Golden State Warriors locker room, StephenCurry iced a welt on the left side of his forehead. On the other, JermaineONeal limped out of the training room with bandages around his waist and wrist. The Warriors emerged from 53 minutes of basketball battered and bruised by the NBAs hottest team but delivered their own kind of knockout blows. Curry converted a tying layup with 3.2 seconds left in regulation and finished with 25 points, ONeal made a big-time block in overtime and the Warriors outlasted the Rockets 102-99 Thursday night to halt Houstons eight-game winning streak. "Thats one of our biggest wins of the year," said ONeal, who grabbed 10 rebounds and defended DwightHoward as well as anybody has this season. Just after JamesHarden hit a go-ahead jumper, Curry came back with a left-handed layup over Howard to send the game to the extra session. The Warriors got a big boost in overtime when ONeal, who had surgery on his right wrist earlier this season and was filling in for injured centre AndrewBogut, blocked ChandlerParsons baseline dunk attempt at the rim. Curry followed with two free throws to give Golden State a 98-95 lead with 15.9 seconds left. The teams traded free throws as the Rockets ran out of time. "There were so many big plays that we made both offensively and defensively," Warriors coach MarkJackson said. "We were patient, we executed and it was just a big-time win for us." Harden scored 34 of his 39 points in the second half to rally the Rockets, but said he hyperextended his right elbow in a collision during the closing minutes. Harden had an X-ray but the results had not come back. Hes scheduled to have an MRI in Phoenix, where Houston plays its next game Sunday. "When it first happened, I thought it was over. I thought I broke it or whatever," said Harden, who stayed in the game. "Its still painful. Its throbbing but hopefully its nothing too serious." The Warriors outshot Houston 39.8 per cent to 36.6 per cent and made just enough plays late. DavidLee had 28 points and 14 rebounds, and KlayThompson and JordanCrawford scored 12 points each in Golden States all-round defensive effort. Howard grabbed 21 rebounds, but scored just 11 points on 4-for-13 shooting, and Parsons added 21 points and eight rebounds as Houston lost for the first time since Jan. 25 at Memphis. It was the Rockets longest winning streak since a franchise-record, 22-game run in 2007-08 season. "It just wasnt a crisp game for us," Rockets coach Kevin McHale said. Playing on consecutive nights made for two tired teams until both picked up the intensity late in the fourth quarter. Harden stripped Lee as he turned to shoot out of the post, then hit a go-ahead shot from 23 feet over Thompson that put Houston ahead 89-87 with 6.9 seconds to play in regulation. After the Warriors called timeout to advance the ball to half court, Curry received a pass from AndreIguodala while running off a screen and drove to his left and to the hoop. With Howard approaching, Curry floated a left-handed layup over the Rockets centre for the tying score before Harden missed a 3-pointer at the regulation buzzer. Curry said the play was designed for him to shoot a 3-pointer but defenders overplayed him. "At that point, it was just about getting into the lane as quick as possible and try to get it on the rim," said Curry, who was inadvertently bruised by Howards leg as the two dove for a loose ball earlier. "Dwight was there to protect and thankfully I was able to get a little bit of touch on it and it went in." The Warriors took control for good when Parsons sprinted down the baseline, received a pass from Harden and went up for a one-handed dunk only to be emphatically denied by the veteran ONeal, bringing the announced sellout crowd of 19,596 roaring to their feet. "He made a great play going baseline, and when youre big, you kind of look at it like being a free safety," ONeal said. "I wanted to make sure I got to the rim in time to save the dunk." "It was just perfect timing on his part," Parsons said. The Rockets were forced to foul Curry with time running out. He made both free throws, then the Warriors intentionally fouled Harden so he couldnt attempt a tying 3-pointer. Harden and Curry swapped free throws before the Warriors stole the ball to finish off a thrilling game between teams that could see each other in the Western Conference playoffs. NOTES: SteveBlake, acquired by the Warriors in a trade with the Lakers on Wednesday, finished with three points, two rebounds and one assist in 19 minutes. ... Houston won the season series 2-1 over the Warriors. ... McHale was whistled for a technical foul for arguing a charging call against JeremyLin at the end of the first quarter. The foul on Lin was waved off after officials ruled time had expired following a video review. The technical stood. DeMarcus Ware Orange Jersey . The Formula One circus has arrived in town and on this Thursday afternoon the teams crew members are setting up their equipment in the pit lane ahead of the three day race weekend. The second-seeded Serb won his 17th straight match to capture his sixth title this season. Ferrer led 5-3 in each set, but Djokovic came back both times and clinched the victory when the Spaniard sent a forehand into the net. Djokovic, who still has a slim chance to finish the season ahead of No. 1 Rafael Nadal in the rankings, hit 34 winners to 15 for Ferrer and won 15 of 18 net points. Ferrer troubled Djokovic early in the match with his deep groundstrokes, and hit a backhand drop shot to break for a 3-2 lead. But Djokovic started plaaying more aggressively, and broke back in the 10th game with a forehand winner down the line. Ronnie Hillman Blue Jersey. The Serb went a set up when Ferrers forehand sailed long. However, Djokovic dropped serve in the opening game of the second set and then needed to hit two straight forehand winners to save two break points at 2-0. Despite numerous backhand errors, Djokovic kept the pressure on Ferrer, who again failed to serve out the set at 5-4. Djokovic capitalized on a long forehand from the Spaniard to break back before hitting an ace for a 6-5 lead. Djokovic improved to 11-5 against Ferrer, who was looking to become the first player to win back-to-back Paris Masters titles. cheap jerseys cheap jerseys from china ' ' ' |

HARRISON, N. Casey Hayward Womens Jersey .J. -- If Chivas USA continues the play the way it has under new coach Wilmer Cabrera, its now-17-game winless streak on the road is going to end soon. Chivas USA came within seconds of its first road win in more than a year, only to see Peguy Luyindula of the Red Bulls nudge a corner kick into the net as four minutes of stoppage time was about to expire Sunday, allowing winless New York to salvage a 1-1 tie. "Of course we are disappointed," goaltender Dan Kennedy said after Chivas USAs road drought increased to 0-13-4. "We are disappointed giving up a goal in the last minute of the game, the last seconds really. I dont know how much time was added on, but it seemed deep into the game." Kennedy said no one is thinking about the skid because its basically a new team with a different coach and new ownership. The past is irrelevant, he said. The Red Bulls (0-3-1) had some luck on the game-tying goal against Chivas USA (1-1-2). Eric Alexander, a second-half substitute, floated a corner kick from the left side into the box and Luyindula went up and knocked it into the net past a stunned Kennedy for his first of the season. "It wasnt clean," said Kennedy, who didnt think the shot came off Luyindulas head. "It kind of fluttered in. In the end we came in here against the Supports Shield winner and got a point and made it really, really tough on them." Neither Luyindula, nor Alexander nor Red Bulls captain Thierry Henry spoke to the media after the game. "We feel relieved, but we still havent gotten our three points, so were not entirely happy," Red Bulls midfielder Lloyd Sam said. "Youre happy not to lose the game, but we need to get our first win. Weve had two home games and the second half we were all over them. We should have had a couple of more goals." Erick Torres first-half penalty kick and Kennedys outstanding play kept Chivas USA ahead from the 25th minute on. Kennedy was under constant pressure in the second half. He made a kick save on a breakaway by Bradley Wright-Phillips in the 73rd minute, nudged a dipping Dax McCarty shot over the bar and stopped a header by Henry in the final 10 minutes. A couple of other shots went just wide of the net. He finished with four saves. Chivas USA has not won away from its Carson, Calif., home since a 4-1 decision over Chicago on March 24, 2013. The Red Bulls start is still better than last season. They opened 0-2-2 before turning things around and posting the best regular-season record in the league. Torres, who has four goals in as many games, scored in the 25th minute after defender Richard Eckersley shoved Thomas McNamara in the back as he went to head a cross into the box. The penalty seemed foolish because the ball was clearly too high for McNamara to head. Torres penalty kick went into the middle of the net as Red Bulls goaltender Luis Robles dove to defend his left side of the net. "Im sad because we made a really strong effort and then to get a goal in the 94th minute obviously you leave the game very frustrated, very angry, very upset," Torres said through a team translator. Chivas USA did not have a shot on goal other than the penalty kick. The Red Bulls saw Australian forward Tim Cahill leave the game in the first half with a pulled right hamstring. Before he left, Kennedy stopped Cahill on a header off a free kick by Henry. Richard Rodgers Womens Jersey . Even the longest of tenures with the Twins, though, dont last forever. Versatile veteran MichaelCuddyer, voted by local beat writers as the teams most valuable player in 2011, is gone. He will be with the Colorado Rockies next season.Bryan Bulaga Jersey . Tanaka has certainly lived up to the hype this season, going 10-1 with an American League-best 2.02 ERA. The Japanese right-hander went the distance to win his fourth straight start on Wednesday in Seattle, as he held the Mariners to a pair of runs and six hits.ROME -- Gianluigi Buffon was sent off and Juventus was held to 1-1 at Lazio on Saturday, ending the two-time defending champions 12-match winning streak in Serie A. It was the second disappointment this week for Juventus at the capitals Stadio Olimpico, after being eliminated from the Italian Cup with a 1-0 loss to Roma on Tuesday. Still, Juventus holds a nine-point lead over Roma, which visits Hellas Verona on Sunday. Buffon was shown a red card for taking down Lazio centre forward Miroslav Klose in the 24th minute and Antonio Candreva converted the ensuing penalty kick. Fernando Llorente equalized for Juventus in the 60th with a header following a cross from Stephan Lichtsteiner. Marco Storari, who replaced Buffon in Juves goal, tipped a header from Klose off the crosssbar in the 75th. Packers jersey. Storari was also fortunate when Lazio teenage forward Keita Balde hit the post in the 86th with the goalkeeper beat. Earlier, Napoli was held to 1-1 at home by Chievo Verona and remained third, 12 points back. At Naples San Paolo stadium, Chievo defender Gennaro Sardo put the visitors in front in the 18th after being set up by Cyril Thereau. Napoli defender Raul Albiol equalized in the 88th with an acrobatic effort. "Its not easy to play against squads that close down so much but clearly we need to rediscover the intensity and velocity that we had at the start of the season," Napoli manager Rafa Benitez said. On Sunday, struggling AC Milan plays at Cagliari and fourth-place Fiorentina hosts Genoa in the late match.cheap jerseys cheap jerseys from china ' ' ' |

NEW YORK - Sometimes a little bit of confidence goes a long way. Jean Segura Jersey . Looking at the standings - where the Raptors sit atop the woeful Atlantic Division - wins in Dallas and Oklahoma City count just the same as less impressive victories over the 76ers and Jazz. Internally, those triumphs have meant everything to this young, impressionable Raptors team. Whether theyre facing a late-game deficit, protecting a lead, or staring down one of the leagues elite teams, the Raptors believe they can win. "It does give you confidence to know you went out and beat [some] of the best teams in the league on their home floor," Dwane Casey said before his team rallied back to defeat the division-rival Knicks, 95-83 at Madison Square Garden on Friday. "That should help us know that hey, you can do it." Having played 36 minutes of lackluster, uninspired basketball against an undermanned club that was nearly as lethargic, the Raptors looked like a team that believed, that knew they could flip on the switch when it mattered most. Trailing by as many as 12 points in the third quarter, Toronto held the Knicks to 5-of-19 shooting in the fourth, outscoring the home team 29-12 in the final frame. Once again, the Raptors showed supreme confidence in the face of adversity on the road. They found a way to win, a notable step for a franchise that has historically found creative ways to lose. "You definitely feel good once youre winning games," said DeMarDeRozan, who led the Raptors with 25 points, including eight in the pivotal fourth quarter. "You gain all the confidence game-in and game-out, especially playing all these teams, knowing we could beat them." "We understand were never out of the game until that last second runs out of the clock. It definitely helps, because last year we were in a ton of late-game situations we couldnt pull out. Wed kind of fold, get frustrated, let a big shot frustrate us. Now we dont let any of that frustrate us." The difference is noticeable. A year ago, the Raptors were 3-36 when trailing after three quarters. Two months into the season, they already have four comeback victories. Most impressively, Toronto is the NBAs third-best fourth-quarter team in terms of point differential. Outscoring opponents by 59 points in the final period, the Raptors rank behind Indiana and Miami, the cream of the crop in the Eastern Conference. I think weve got some good closers," KyleLowry said after a 15-point, 11-assist performance, his 19th straight game with six or more dimes. "I think weve got guys who dont care about the moment, they just want to win games." Confidence has been the most crucial factor in the continued development of franchise centrepiece JonasValanciunas, who had a coming out party on the NBAs biggest stage Friday. Facing TysonChandler, one of the leagues toughest match-ups at his position, the Raptors sophomore registered a career-high 18 boards to go along with 16 points. Valanciunas was not fazed by the moment or his competition, he held his ground and played up to it as much or more than he has before. "JV just be all over the place," DeRozan said with a chuckle. "Sometimes weve just got to tell him to calm down. He just wants it that bad. Youve got to love having a guy like that on your team." Lowry has been as tough on the 21-year-old as anyone in the organization. Routinely reprimanding him after missed assignments or botched pick-and-rolls, even Lowry sees and applauds the growth of the Raptors prized second-year centre. "It just makes me proud because Im on him more than everybody but when he does well I congratulate him and I appreciate what he does," Lowry said of Valanciunas. "I just want to see him be the best player he can be." "Ill buy him dinner one day," the veteran point guard joked. For Valanciunas, it was a big night, whether he cares to admit it or not. The witty, albeit soft-spoken, seven footer refused to bite on questions regarding his individual performance after the game. "I was just playing my game, Im trying to help the team," he maintained. "Thats all I do every game." "Im not trying to show swagger or something. Im a simple guy and Im just trying to play hard." Like the sinking Atlantic Division itself, one of these teams was going to win this game and through three quarters, that seemed like a maddening thought. Both teams got off to a sluggish start, especially the Raptors, coming off a brief Christmas break earlier this week. Toronto shot 38 per cent from the field and committed 10 turnovers in the first half before tightening the screws in the third quarter and running away with the game in the fourth. "We were playing in mud in the first half," Casey said. "Our effort was there it was just one of those games where we couldnt get going and I think it was a little bit because of the break, coming back, trying to get things going. We turned it on in the second half and its good to be able to not play your best game and still come out with the win against a very powerful offensive team in New York." The Knicks are a sinking ship, desperately trying to stay afloat in the division for as long as injuries remain a viable excuse for their failures. CarmeloAnthony, the NBAs second-leading scorer, missed Fridays game with an ankle injury and will not travel to Toronto for the back end of a home-and-home set with the Raptors Saturday. In many ways, Fridays game was the epitome of what has become the leagues most ridiculed division. More often than not it was painful to watch. As the Knicks, last seasons division champions, were booed off their home court it became clear; these are two teams headed in opposite directions. One with more confidence than theyve had in some time, the other losing hope with each passing day. Jonathan Lucroy Jersey . -- An accomplished veteran in open-wheel racing, Alex Tagliani probably could find a full-time ride in the IndyCar series if he wanted it badly enough. Kyle Lohse Jersey . The Lions traded their fifth overall pick in the 2014 CFL Draft to the Ottawa Redblacks for QB Kevin Glenn. PHILADELPHIA -- The 76ers fans came to celebrate AllenIversons No. 3. TrevorAriza left them talkin about 40. Ariza made eight 3-pointers and scored a career-high 40 points to help the Washington Wizards win their sixth straight game, 122-103 over Philadelphia on Saturday night. Ariza made all six 3-point attempts in the first quarter for 24 points and finished 14 of 23 from the floor overall. The 76ers lost their 13th straight game on the night they retired Iversons No. 3. Iverson had his number sent to the rafters, fit between Maurice Cheeks No. 10 and Charles Barkleys No. 34. The Sixers even gave him a boat named, "The Answer." The Sixers enjoyed their first sellout of 20,856 for Iversons triumphant homecoming. The fans, though, saw the same old sorry Sixers. Ariza had his milestone game in front of one of his childhood favourites. "What he brought to the game made me love the game the way I love it," he said. "He was amazing for a lot of years and he definitely changed the culture of the NBA. This was his night and, I guess, thats definitely a thanks for all the things hes done throughout my life and my career. "Just being a fan of his since I was young, its great to be able to perform that way on a big night like that for him." Ariza had plenty of help for a Wizards team making a run in the Eastern Conference. JohnWall had 17 points and tied a career high with 16 assists, and MarcinGortat had 13 points and 14 rebounds. Ariza, averaging 14.3 points, seemed like he would top his career high of 33 in the first 12 minutes. The Sixers were helpless as the 6-foot-8 forward made his 3-point shots with the ease of a pop-a-shot contest. With the building buzzing over Iversons retirement ceremony, Ariza silenced them at stretches with six 3s and 9 of 10 shooting overall, helping the Wizards storm out to a 15-point lead. Wall had the assist on most of those looks and finished the quarter with eight. "What more can you ask than a guy who wants to see you succeed," Ariza said. "I feel like thats what we do here now; we all want to see each other succeed." The fans were mostly distracted by the parade of former greats the Sixers trotted oout for Iversons big night. Yovani Gallardo Jersey. They went wild for Julius Erving, Moses Malone, and former team president Pat Croce. But they came for the global superstar who popularized "talkin about practice." The Sixers may as well have turned the arena into an AI museum. Four banners greeted fans at the main concourse entrance, and photos of him were plastered all around the arena. The merchandise stands sold Iverson jerseys for $130, and lower level tickets were going for as much for $1,280 on Stubhub about an hour before the 7:30 p.m. tipoff. The fans loved him, and he blew them kisses after the No. 3 was raised to show how much he loved them back. "I am Philly," Iverson said. "Its always going to be that way." Wall, who had his 22nd double-double, returned to the court at halftime to record Iversons ceremony. "He was my role model and I looked up to him," he said. "Being a small guard, thats where I took a lot of my game from. This city embraced him and let him be who he was as a person. He always gave his best effort. "I always wanted to grow braids like Iverson. The only thing I didnt have was the tattoos." Iversons return injected a rare dose of excitement into a franchise playing some of the worst basketball in the league. The Sixers, in full-blown rebuilding mode, lost their 12th straight home game. The Wizards made some history first half and led by 12. Perhaps fueled by Iversons ceremony, the Sixers went on a 9-0 run in the third to trim the gap to 12 points. It just wasnt enough and the Sixers allowed 100-plus points for the 13th straight game. TonyWroten led the Sixers with 19 points and ThaddeusYoung had 17. Coach Brett Brown didnt hesitate when asked if he wondered if the Sixers would win another game. "All the time," he said. Notes: Arizas previous career best was at Houston on Oct. 31, 2009. ...
