TORONTO - The Toronto Blue Jays will send DrewHutchison to the mound today and could have closer CaseyJanssen available out of the bullpen for the third game of a four-game set against the Los Angeles Angels. nfl jerseys china . The Jays activated Janssen from the 15-day disabled list early on Sunday. The 32-year-old has been out since the beginning of the season with a left abdominal lower back strain. The 23-year-old Hutchison is 0-2 over his last six starts since a victory at Tampa Bay on April 1 in his first start of 2014. Hutchison allowed nine hits and five runs over eight innings of a no-decision against Philadelphia on Tuesday. His only appearance against the Angels came May 6, 2012 in Anaheim when he gave up eight hits and four runs in 5 1/3 innings of a 4-3 defeat. Angels starter JeredWeaver is 3-0 with a 1.78 ERA over his last four starts and hasnt lost since April 6 at Houston. The right-hander threw eight strong innings in a 4-1 home win over the Yankees Monday. Weaver escaped a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the top of the eighth. He gave up a run on six hits, walked one and struck out seven. In 10 career starts versus Toronto, Weaver is 8-2 with a 3.68 ERA. In taking the first two of this four-game series, the Angels have won six in a row in Toronto. Their last loss at Rogers Centre came June 30, 2012 and they have won nine of the last 10 meetings overall. TylerSkaggs spun eight-plus strong frames, C.J.Cron clubbed his first big league homer, and the Angels earned a 5-3 win yesterday afternoon in the second installment of this four-game series. Skaggs (3-1) struck out four while giving up just four hits and three runs -- two earned -- over his stellar outing. "He had some good movement on his fastball," Blue Jays catcher ErikKratz said of Skaggs. "There werent a lot of hard hits today." Cron stroked a solo shot in the third inning and singled home a run in the second, while ChrisIannetta smacked a two-run homer. "Tyler is really coming into his own. You can really see the maturation process," Iannetta said of his batterymate. "He just keeps getting better and hopefully he just keeps learning how to pitch and learning how to execute." Toronto starter J.A.Happ (1-1) lasted just 2 1/3 innings after giving up four runs on seven hits and a walk. JoseBautista scored once and also knocked in a run for the Blue Jays, who came into this series with five consecutive wins. Angels manager Mike Scioscia is scheduled to return to the team. He missed the first two contests of the series to attend his daughters college graduation. cheap jerseys . - The Washington Wizards are in a great position to make the playoffs for the first time in six years, and JohnWall has a lot to do with it. jerseys from china .Y. -- Trevor Cooney and C.Bruins forward ShawnThornton will be appealing his 15-game suspension handed down by the National Hockey League. The NHL suspended Thornton for his attack on Penguins defenceman BrooksOrpik. After the whistle, Thornton skated the length of the ice, pulled Orpik to the ice from behind and punched him in the face several times. Orpik suffered a concussion and was taken to hospital. The Appeal ProcessAs a first step, Thornton will appeal the suspension to Commissioner Gary Bettman. He hears all appeals on league discipline. Since the suspension exceeds five games, Bettman is required to have an in-person hearing for Thornton. Since Thornton was at the NHL office last week for his disciplinary hearing, he should know his way around by now.The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) provides that "the Commissioner shall endeavor to hear all appeals on an expedited basis and will determine whether the decision" is supported by clear and convincing evidence. So Bettman will get this done quickly and will assess whether the suspension makes sense based on the circumstances.Thornton should expect to fail on appeal to Bettman. The suspension was handed down by the Director of Player Safety BrendanShanahan. However, given the complex legal implications of this case, particularly in light of the concussion lawsuits, the suspension was very likely a group effort. So the suspension wasnt a Shanahan decision as much as it was a league decision issued through Shanahan. As a result, its unlikely Bettman will reduce the suspension. Frankly, reductions by Bettman are unlikely in most circumstances. He runs the league so he wont contradict himself.Indeed, the NHLPA has probably told Thornton the prospects of success are bleak. And this brings us to the next stage in the appeal process.Appeal Number 2It doesnt end with Bettman. Since the suspension exceeds five games, the CBA gives Thornton the right to appeal Bettmans decision to an independent arbitrator. This wasnt around in the old CBA and is brand new, thanks to the NHLPAs negotiations during the lockout.Thornton will have seven days to appeal Bettmans decision to the arbitrator (who is described as a "Neutral Discipline Arbitrator" in the CBA). There will once again be an in-person hearing, and while the CBA doesnt say when it must occur, the arbitrator needss to hear it on an "expedited basis". wholesale jerseys. . So again, relatively quickly. The arbitrator will consider the length of the suspension and whether its appropriate. That determination will be made by examining things like the incident, the leagues past practice, the evidence and the surrounding circumstances. The arbitrator has broad powers. The CBA gives the arbitrator "full remedial authority", which means he can reduce the suspension, leave it as is, or even increase it. Its unlikely, though, the suspension would ever be increased. If Thornton is unhappy with the decision of the arbitrator, his only recourse would be to challenge the ruling in court. However, a judge will not interfere with the arbitrators decision unless its completely outrageous. Effectively, then, you should consider the arbitrators decision final. To be clear, Thornton doesnt have to appeal Bettmans ruling to the arbitrator. If he wants, after the Commissioner rules on his case, he can decide to stop the appeal process and serve out what is left of his suspension. As I wrote here, Thorntons prospects of success on appeal are low, given the NHLs past practice when it comes to these types of incidents. As well, the NHL may be able to make a compelling case that this type of suspension represents an important deterrent for on-ice behaviour that puts players at risk for concussions and the irreversible brain damage that may flow from head shots. However, merits aside, I also noted that we could still see an appeal. Since independent arbitrators are new, the NHLPA may want to start building precedents to help guide them in future cases. As well, the NHLPA needs to show that it wont roll over when it comes to defending its players and that it is prepared to dig in and fight. So while this case does not present a high likelihood of success for Thornton, the NHLPA sees value in taking a stand. And as it should. As for BrooksOrpik, he may not be too happy with the NHLPA defending his attacker. Still, the NHLPA may draw the fine distinction that the appeal is not adverse to Orpik, but rather adverse to the NHL and its decision. So the Union isnt technically acting against one of its own, but instead acting on behalf of one of its own. That is a distinction that may not sit well with Orpik. However, thats the nature of the NHLPA beast. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys ' ' ' |

NEW YORK -- Cold, shorter rest, a bigger ball. Darrelle Revis Jersey . No matter the challenges, Masahiro Tanaka is making a smooth transition from Japan to the major leagues for one major reason: his split-fingered fastball. Tanaka allowed two bunt hits in eight dominant innings on a frigid Wednesday, CarlosBeltran homered for the third straight game and New York welcomed the Chicago Cubs to the current Yankee Stadium with a 3-0 victory in the opener of a day-night doubleheader. "That split is not something you want to sit on. Its not something youre going to be able to handle," Cubs manager Rick Renteria said. "But, as it was coming out of the hand, as the guys were coming in, they were saying, Gosh, it looks like a fastball. It ends up diving." And it makes batters look silly. The 25-year-old Japanese right-hander struck out 10 for his second straight start, this time while wearing three-quarter sleeves on a 43-degree day that felt much colder because of a brisk wind. Tanaka (2-0) gave up a replay-aided hit to JuniorLake in the second inning, and AnthonyRizzo pushed a bunt toward a vacated third base with a shifted infield leading off the seventh. Tanaka has 28 strikeouts in 22 innings, the most strikeouts for a Yankees pitcher in his first three career starts, according to the Yankees via the Elias Sports Bureau. Tanaka threw 107 pitches, and ShawnKelley allowed a single to Rizzo as he finished the three-hitter for his fourth save. "It was cold out there and I did feel it but I was able to control myself, control the grip and manage myself to pitch the way I did today," Tanaka said. Dean Anna had a sacrifice fly and JacobyEllsbury added an RBI tap-out against JasonHammel (2-1) in Chicagos first regular-season game in the ballpark, which opened in 2009. The Cubs have yet to win in the Bronx. They were swept in the 1932 and 38 World Series and lost all three-games in 2005, their only interleague series in New York. With Tuesdays rainout postponing Jackie Robinson Day festivities, the Yankees planned to unveil a plaque honouring Nelson Mandela before the nightcap. Players from both teams were to wear No. 42, and MichaelPineda was set to make his first start for New York since he was spotted with a mysterious brown substance on his hand Thursday against Boston. TravisWood was slated to start for Chicago. After an overnight storm, the grounds crew used blowers to melt the ice on the tarp before removing the covering from the infield. Snow still covered the grass in right field while the Cubs took batting practice, and many players wore ski caps. But it wasnt too cold for Beltran. He connected on a 1-1 changeup from Hammel with one out in the first. Anna started again at shortstop for DerekJeter and drove in his run with a fly to left field in the fourth. Jeter missed three games with a tight quadriceps but manager JoeGirardi said the captain would start the second game. "Right now I feel good at the plate, and am seeing good results, said Beltran, the current AL player of the week. New York added a run in the fifth when JuniorLake lost BrettGardners liner to left in the sun for a double. After Gardner advanced on Beltrans groundout, Ellsburys bat made contact with catcher JohnBakers glove before dunking a ball in front of the mound. Catchers interference was called but under rule 6.08 (c), the Yankees had the choice to reject the interference call -- it would have put runners at the corners -- and take the play as it unfolded on the field. The elected for the latter, with Gardner scoring and Ellsbury tagging out by Hammel. "With one out you take the run," Girardi said. Tanaka gave up six runs -- five earned -- in his first two starts combined, all before the third inning was over. This time he was sharp from the start. He walked his second batter this season and lowered his ERA to 2.05 ERA. Lake bunted toward the third base side, and Tanaka fielded it cleanly. Initially, first base umpire Manny Gonzalez called Lake out but Cubs manager Rick Renteria requested a challenge and the call was overturned. Hammel was nearly as good. He yielded three runs and five hits, striking out five. "I thought I threw the ball pretty well, but he was better today," Hammel said. "I was very impressed. Strike thrower, obviously, his split finger is devastating." NOTES: Yankees 1B MarkTeixeira (right hamstring) is working out in Tampa, Fla. He is eligible to come off the DL Sunday. ... The Cubs have played in 122 ballparks. ... The Yankees swept two exhibition games from the Cubs at the new stadium before opening day in 09. ... Renteria asked for a second review on a close play at first base in the seventh. The replay umpire ruled the call stands, which means there wasnt conclusive evidence to overturn the call on the field. David Harris Womens Jersey . This week, topics cover the Blue Jays rotation, the futures John Gibbons and Alex Anthopoulos, protecting pitchers and a bonus question on his predictions for the MLB playoffs. Jeremy Kerley New York Jets Jersey . In the eyes of Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, the two-time defending NBA champions pretty much botched the whole thing. SAN DIEGO -- The Padres are on a roll, proving how quick momentum can flip in baseball. WillVenable homered and San Diego beat the Miami Marlins 5-4 on Sunday for their first three-game winning streak of the season. This run comes on the heels of Thursdays extra-inning loss, when second baseman JeddGyorkos error led to GiancarloStantons home run and a deflating defeat. Now the Padres hit the road packing along some confidence. "Its a much better vibe, theres less tension in the clubhouse and in the dugout," Padres manager Bud Black said. "When you dont score theres tension. And its been released a little bit and the guys are playing a little more relaxed. That is what winning does. When you dont score, things get a little tight." The surging Padres offence, which has scored 24 runs in the three games, also got two hits and two RBIs from ChrisDenorfia. RobbieErlin (2-4) scattered five hits in 6 1-3 scoreless innings before giving way to three Padres relievers. HustonStreet pitched around a hit and two walks in the ninth to earn his 11th save. Street handled the middle of the Marlins order, Stanton and CaseyMcGehee with caution. He didnt mind putting them on when they didnt offer at border line pitches early in their counts. "I saw (Jeff) Baker in the hole and while he swung the bat well in series, I felt like once the bases were loaded I got to start attacking," Street said. "You know how you feel and youve seen how guys are hitting and when I fell behind those guys in middle of lineup, you feel like you dont want to give them anything to hit, especially Stanton." Street retired Baker on a fielders choice. "Got to be a little crisis at the end but Huston has proven over the years how to work his way through an inning, how to get an out," Black said. "He always knows whos on deck, whos in the hole and as the inning proceeds, what he has to get done and that is always a good sign of a good closer." Stanton understood. "He wasnt going to give me something to hit a homer and goo up in the game," he said. Nick Folk Womens Jersey. "So he was either going to take the corners and if I didnt bite, he was going to let (McGehee) take over." Erlin handed his game over to the bullpen and was rewarded. He had lost four straight decisions before beating the Marlins in his first appearance against them. But it was his second consecutive strong showing after a seven-inning, one-run outing versus the Royals. The Padres pitchers struck out 48 over the four-game series to set a franchise record. They broke their mark of 44 set in 1998 against Montreal. Miamis HendersonAlvarez (2-3), who was coming off his second shutout of the season and third in his last eight starts, wasnt sharp. He lasted four innings, allowing five runs on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts. "He didnt have a good feel for his sinker today and that is his bread and butter," catcher JeffMathis said. "Without his sinker today we were doing what we could do throw the ball over the plate." Venable hit his franchise-best 10th career leadoff homer. His 400-foot blast off a 1-0 fastball over the right-field wall was his first home run of the year. NOTES: Padres SS EverthCabrera was out of the starting lineup after his wife, Connie, gave birth to their daughter late Saturday night. ... OF CarlosQuentin was to play with Single-A Lake Elsinore on Sunday as he continues his rehabilitation from bruised left knee. Quentin could join the club on its upcoming road trip. ... SAINT JOHN, N. Nike Air Max 1 Dames .B. - The Shawinigan Cataractes snapped a four-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs in a matchup of Quebec Major Junior Hockey League division cellar dwellers on Thursday. Alexis DAoust, Alex Pawelczyk and Alexandre Delisle-Houde scored for Shawinigan (16-34-8), which had period leads of 1-0 and 3-0. Marvin Cupper made 26 saves for the Cataractes. Oliver Cooper ruined Cuppers shutout bid with his goal for the Sea Dogs (17-37-4) at 14:19 of the third period. Sebastien Auger made 35 saves for Saint John. Shawinigan was 0 for 3 on the power play, and the Sea Dogs were 0 for 6. Nike Air Max 90 Heren .J. -- New York Giants wide receiver VictorCruz will miss the rest of the season after having surgery on his left knee. Nike Air Max 90 Goedkoop . -- Canadian ErikBedard pitched into the fifth inning in his bid to win a spot in Tampa Bays rotation, helping the Rays beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-3 on Saturday.Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca. Hi Kerry,I have a question on a New Years Eve game between the Oilers and Coyotes. With 43.3 seconds left in the third period, Edmonton goaltender IlyaBryzgalov caught a puck that was dumped in from outside the zone, skated out a few feet and dropped the puck to keep the play alive, then had second thoughts and dropped to cover the puck well outside his goal crease. There was no penalty called on the play. My question is...why not? I thought the goalie could only cover the puck outside his crease if he had come out to make a save. Isnt it a delay of game penalty otherwise? The Coyotes won the game in overtime, so in the end it didnt matter, but this seems too obvious a thing for the officials to just miss, so Im hoping you can straighten out my understanding of the rule.Thanks.Kevin FisherTucson, AZ Kevin: There is considerable "black and white" reference within the rules to support calling a delay of game penalty on Ilya Brygalov with 43.4 seconds remaining with the score tied once the goalkeeper froze the puck outside of crease to gain a stoppage in play. As we examine the entire circumstance surrounding the play I hope you will come to the logical conclusion that the referee exercised sound judgment and common sense in not penalizing Bryz once he (the ref) allowed the play to continue. As a result of this allowance, there came a point where IlyaBryzgalov had no other safe option than to cover the puck. The most obvious rule references calling for the assessment of a penalty are contained in 63.2 and 67.3: - A minor penalty shall be imposed on any player, including the goalkeeper, who holds, freezes or plays the puck with his stick, skates or body in such a manner as to deliberately cause a stoppage of play. With regard to a goalkeeper, this rule applies outside of his goal crease area. - If a goalkeeper comes out of his crease to "cut down the angle" on a shot and after making the save covers the puck, this shall be legal. If the goalkeeper races out of his crease in an attempt to beat the attacking player to the puck and instead of playing the puck jumps on the puck causing a stoppage of play, this shall be a minor penalty for delay of the game. - A goalkeeper who holds the puck with his hands for longer than three seconds shall be given a minor penalty unless he is actually being checked by an opponent. The object of this entire rule is to keep the puck in play continuously and any action taken by the goalkeeper which causes an unnecessary stoppage must be penalized without warning. Nike Air Max Dames. While the language contained herein provides plenty of cannon fodder to call a penalty with regard to the end result, (puck frozen by Bryz outside his crease) we have to consider the play in its entirety to avoid an unjust determination and overreaction. AntoineVermette back handed the puck at the net which IlyaBryzgalov caught on the extreme left side of his goal crease. Vermette followed his shot and effectively checked the goalkeeper from that angle which provided an allowance for Bryz to freeze the puck under the rules. A decision was then made by Bryzgalov to keep the play going by laterally skating with the puck through and outside of his crease perhaps 5 to 8 feet; which the referee allowed! Once Bryzgalov dropped the puck from his catching glove to the ice, with full intent to keep the play moving, the goalkeeper was quickly checked by LauriKorpikoski of the Coyottes and placed in harms way. Since Bryz was a minimal distance outside of his crease, coupled with the fact that the referee allowed the play to continue when he could have blown the play dead previously, good judgment was exercised by the referee not to assess a penalty for delay of the game. We (refs) encourage the goalies to keep the play moving and it would be terribly unjust if they were subsequently penalized when an attacker quickly sealed off any option for a safe movement of the puck. The optimum word here is quickly. Brygalovs primary intent was to keep the play moving by playing the puck and not to gain a stoppage in play. His legitimate freezing of the puck was necessitated by the quick fore-check by LauriKorpikoski. Kevin, I just had a flashback to Greg Millen playing goal for the Hartford Whalers. Far too many times to count I saw Millen catch the puck within his goal crease and skate straight up the middle like a rocket navigating through player traffic while looking for safe ice to drop and play the puck! I always blew the whistle before he got too far into his sprint but certainly when he was well outside of his goal crease. On more than one occasion I told Greg he was going to get steam rolled with a body check before I could get the whistle to my mouth. Each time Millen attempted to keep the play moving in this fashion he returned to his goal crease with a big grin evident beneath his wire cage mask. We know goalies have a much different approach to the Universe and other matters! Common sense and good judgment must prevail. The referee exercised both qualities by not penalizing IlyaBryzgalov in the game on New Years Eve Day. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys ' ' ' |

NEW YORK -- The old guard took care of this one for the Phillies -- with both their bats and their brains. Quinton Coples Womens Jersey . RyanHoward had four hits, including a tiebreaking single in the ninth inning, and JimmyRollins homered and scored four times to lead Philadelphia past the slumping New York Mets 5-4 on Saturday night. ChaseUtley drove in two runs for the Phillies, who have won the first two games of the series against their NL East foes after dropping four straight to Toronto. Rollins, Utley and Howard, the All-Star core of Phillies teams that won five straight division titles and a World Series championship from 2007-11, combined to go 9 for 12 with four RBIs. "Yeah, it felt good. It felt like old times out there," Howard said. "If we can get everybody going all at the same time, itll be a force to be reckoned with." DavidWright hit his first home run since opening day, ending the longest drought of his career, and had three RBIs. But the Mets wasted another great chance to score in the late innings, losing their season-worst fifth straight and eighth in nine games. Following some confusion in the eighth, Philadelphia reliever MikeAdams (2-1) escaped a major jam by retiring pinch-hitter BobbyAbreu on a bases-loaded comebacker to keep it tied. "Obviously, I had to make him swing the bat," Adams said. "I threw a two-seamer that ran down and made him hit my pitch." With runners on second and third earlier in the inning, the Phillies held a meeting at the mound and threw an intentional ball to Eric Campbell in his second major league plate appearance. Thats when Utley and catcher CarlosRuiz noticed the 40-year-old Abreu, cut by Philadelphia near the end of spring training, getting ready in the dugout. Utley and Ruiz persuaded Adams to go after Campbell before Abreu had a chance to bat. "We decided to change our minds," Utley said. "We saw him coming up there. We try to see everything, but we dont always." Adams said the chat pumped him up, and Utley is "always on top of it." The intentional walk was called off and Campbell eventually took strike three. "That was pretty neat to watch," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said. Rollins drew a two-out walk from KyleFarnsworth (0-3) in the ninth and went to third on Utleys single. Howard followed with a line-drive single to centre. JonathanPapelbon worked a hitless ninth for his 11th save in 12 chances. With a runner on second, he retired Wright on a foul popup to end it. A frustrated Wright held his bat above his head most of the way back to the dugout, then lingered on an otherwise empty bench for a few minutes with the lumber still in his hand. "The frustrating part is losing," Wright said. "An inning here, an inning there is costing us multiple games over the last few weeks." After the start was delayed 39 minutes by rain, the Phillies wasted no time jumping on DillonGee, who had a 7.46 ERA in nine previous starts against them. Philadelphia began the game with consecutive singles and a stolen base before Utleys sacrifice fly ended Gees career-best scoreless streak at 16 innings. DomonicBrown blooped an RBI single, but Gee dodged additional damage when CodyAsche lined out with the bases loaded. Wright tied it with a two-run shot on an 0-2 pitch from KyleKendrick, snapping a streak of 136 at-bats without a homer since March 31 against Washington. "I dont build my game around hitting home runs, so it wasnt too much of a monkey at all," Wright said. Rollins homered off the facing of the second deck in right to put Philadelphia ahead 3-2 in the second. Kendrick retired 14 of 15 batters after Wrights long ball and took a two-hitter into the sixth, when he walked leadoff man JuanLagares. DanielMurphy singled and Wright plopped an RBI double into right field, just beyond a diving MarlonByrd. Campbell, with his parents taking pictures in the stands, was sent up to pinch-hit for his big league debut. He gave the Mets a 4-3 lead with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly against lefty reliever JakeDiekman -- and was all smiles while receiving a high-five from Murphy and congratulations in the dugout. "It was a real up and down day," Campbell said. Rollins legged out an infield single in the seventh and advanced on ScottRices wild pitch. Utley doubled off the centre-field fence to tie it at 4. NOTES: Kendrick, hurt by poor run support, is 0-8 in 14 starts since beating the Chicago Cubs on Aug. 6 last season. ... Howard is 9 for 18 against Gee with six homers and 14 RBIs. Rollins is 11 for 22. ... BenRevere made a terrific, tumbling catch in deep centre to rob TravisdArnaud of extra bases. ... LHP ColeHamels (0-2, 7.02 ERA) will try again for his 100th career win when he makes his fourth start of the season Sunday in the series finale against LHP Jonathon Niese (2-2, 1.82). Hamels was hit hard in a 6-1 loss to Niese at home on April 29 and is 7-14 with a 4.65 ERA in 27 starts against New York. Wayne Chrebet New York Jets Jersey . -- As usual, Aksel Lund Svindal was super fast on this hill. Nick Mangold Womens Jersey . The Bruins suffered their share of setbacks, a notable one just a week earlier. Once the Pac-12 tournament got rolling, the Bruins took off.URDAX, Spain -- Tony Martin broke away to win the second stage of the Tour of Basque Country on Tuesday, while overall leader Alberto Contador maintained his 14-second advantage. Martin was among seven cyclists who moved away from the peloton, with the German cyclist pulling ahead of a breakaway group that included Maxim Montfort and Jan Bakelandts just over 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) from the finish. "At 15 kilometres to go, we knew to try and win this race -- so I attacked the breakaway," said Martin, who won a leg that included four categorized climbs by 30 seconds in a time of 3 hours, 46 minutes, 17 seconds. Contador allowed the breakaways to ride out of sight as he stayed close to closest challenger Alejandro Valverde, who attempted to escape late in the 155.8-kilometre (99-mile) stage to no avail. "Alejandro attacked, and I would have done the same thing if I was in his situation," Contador said. Muhammad Wilkerson Jersey. "There were spots where you could go for it, but I was very attentive to respond." Contador, a former Tour de France champion, leads Valverde with an overall time of 7:51:54 for Tinkoff-Saxo. Michal Kwiatkowski of Poland is third -- 34 seconds off the pace. "It wasnt a day where moves were made, but where a lot of energy was spent," Contador said. Martins first victory of the season gave his Omega-Pharma Quick Step team its 20th stage win of the season. "This morning I was really motivated. Everybody wanted to try and go," Martin said. "It was the perfect situation. We collaborated really well with the other guys in the breakaway." The five-stage race continues on Wednesday with a 194.7-kilometre (120-mile) leg from Urdax to the Basque capital city of Vitoria. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys ' ' ' |

RALEIGH, N. Darryl Morris Texans Jersey .C. -- CamWard has made many, many saves in his NHL career. Still, he can appreciate a good one. Ward stopped 35 shots in the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1 over the Ottawa Senators on Sunday night, with none more entertaining than his desperation stick save against ColinGreening in the first period. "I had goose bumps after that one," Ward said. "We play this game for a living but when you make a save like that, I turn into a little kid. It also was a sigh of relief to get that save because that was a big part of the game in the first period." Ward had already given up a rebound goal to JasonSpezza 1:07 into the game when he stopped Greening to keep it close for Carolina, who scored three times in the second to take command. Ward said his confidence grew immensely playing on consecutive days for the first time this season. He missed 10 games with a lower-body injury and returned to the lineup on Nov. 18. EricStaal had a goal and two assists, and PatrickDwyer, TuomoRuutu and rookie EliasLindholm each scored for the Hurricanes, who have won 10 of 11 at home against Ottawa. Staal scored an empty-net goal with 2:29 left. With both teams playing the second of back-to-back games, it was visiting Ottawa which jumped out early on Spezzas 10th of the season But Ottawa coach Paul MacLean said his team didnt play hard enough to win. "We dont play long enough to consistently win," MacLean said. "A three-minute span in the second period and we end up making two costly errors that were self-inflicted. One ends up in our net and the other ends up in penalty, then ends up in our net. Dwyer got his third goal of the season with a stinging shot inside the upper far post from the right circle at 3:10 to tie it. Three minutes later Ruutu gave Carolina a 2-1 lead, and midway through the period Lindholm, a rookie, scored on the power play for the Hurricanes. Ottawa goalie RobinLehner was solid except for the 6-minute stretch in the second period, finishing with 33 saves. We have to find the answer to why we cant be aggressive three periods a game," Lehner said. "They scored three good ones and we couldnt catch up. The factor on the last two was that they had too much time. The first one was a pretty good goal and the last two they had a lot of time." NOTES -- Carolina LW Jirii Tlusty played his 300th NHL game. ... Staal extended his point streak to six games. ... Ottawa C MikaZibanejad has three points (1g, 2a) in his last three games. ... The Senators played their 1,600th game in franchise history. J.J. Watt Womens Jersey . The 25-year-old Spaniard, who joined United from Chelsea in January, scored twice, including directly from a free kick, to take his tally to three goals in his last two games. "I think he has made us better," United manager David Moyes said. Whitney Mercilus Womens Jersey ." The announcement from Rutgers President Robert Barchi, who said there was a "miscommunication" about the speeches, is the latest development in a strange saga surrounding the May 18 ceremony. The New Jersey university initially announced that former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice would give the keynote address, and school officials maintained that she would not be "disinvited" as some students and faculty protested her selection, including holding a sit-in last week. MONTREAL -- Rachel Homan started defence of her Scotties Tournament of Hearts title in style. Homan and her Team Canada (1-0) rink from Ottawa scored four in the eighth end for an 8-3 victory over Manitobas Chelsea Carey (0-1) on Saturday night at the Maurice Richard Arena. "The team played really well in front of me," said Homan, the winner last year in Kingston, Ont. "It was a tough battle. It was 4-3 and then one big end kind of ended it. My team just really had it today." It was a nervy but successful start for Val Sweetings Alberta rink. The Sweeting team (2-0) with lead Rachel Pidherny, second Dana Ferguson and third Joanne Courtney scored three points in the ninth end for a comeback 7-5 victory over 20-year-old newcomer Sarah Koltun (0-1) of the Yukon and Northwest Territories in the opening draw. In the evening, Sweeting took the early lead, wasted it, and then scored two in an extra end for an 8-6 win over 22-year-old Kesa van Osch of British Columbia (1-1). Heather Strong (2-0) of Newfoundland used the shot of the day to edge the home team, Quebecs Allison Ross (0-2), 5-4 with a raised angle takeout on the final shot. Stefanie Lawton (1-0) of Saskatchewan downed Allison Flaxeys Ontario rink (0-1) 8-6. Koltun looked ready for an upset when she stole a point for a 4-1 lead in the fifth end to throw a scare into 26-year-old Sweeting, a youngster herself in only her second Scotties. "They were outplaying us for sure," said Sweeting. "We set up some good ends and she made some good draws to save them, but we stayed patient and had an opportunity in the ninth and took advantage. "Im happy to get out of that one with a win, but we definitely have to sharpen up. We knew we couldnt take them lightly. Its their first time here and they have nothing to lose." A miss by Koltun with her first stone in the ninth set up the decisive steal by Alberta. Sweetings rink kept the house clear in the 10th and left no chance for the Whitehorse skip to force an extra end. Koltun is the youngest skip ever to play in the Scotties and is the first to skip at the Canadian junior and Scotties championships in the same year. She went 5-4 at the juniors two weeks ago in Liverpool, N.S. with two of her three teammates at the Scotties. She skipped a record seven times at national junior championships and is considered among the risingg talents in the sport. Garrett Graham Texans Jersey. . But she may have let one get away in her debut. "We were in control at the beginning and it was just that one bad end, but its our first game at our first Scotties so well take what we can from it," said Koltun. "We are happy to be here, but we want to contend and be competitive and I think we showed that in this first game by putting up a really strong fight." Quebecs Allison Ross had a disappointing start as she failed to score until she picked up one point in the eighth end. After scoring, Ross conceded a 6-1 victory to New Brunswicks Andrea Crawford. The Quebec side from Montreal curled only 64 per cent as a group, lowest of the day. She found her draw weight in her evening match against Strong, which had the crowd of 1,825 roaring, but fell short when the Newfoundland skip pulled off her winning takeout. "I was reading the ice better," said Ross. "Its a disappointing loss, but Heather made an amazing shot. You want to leave the other team a hard shot, and she made it." Strong had won the Hot Shots competition -- a pre-tournament skills exhibition -- on Saturday morning and it may have helped her against Quebec. "A lot of the (Hot Shots) are indicative of what you face in game, so I referred back to that a lot," she said. "I felt good when I threw it, but I was coming off missing the one right before it, so I was a little torn. "We were exhausted. It was late back home. There were the opening ceremonies, we were in the Hot Shots right through. It was a long day, so to pull off that second win was awesome." Strong had won her first match as she took a 6-2 lead after six ends, then had to hold off a charge from Nova Scotias Heather Smith (0-1) for an 8-5 victory. Van Osch needed an extra end to defeat Kim Dolans Prince Edward Island rink 7-4. The 22-year-old from Victoria admitted to feeling nervous in her debut match, but settled down as it went on against the veteran Dolan, who is in her 10th Scotties. Van Osch said she hasnt set any goals for the tournament. "Were a first-year team," she said. "It was a bonus just to make it to the Scotties this year. Were taking things as they come, game by game." There are three draws scheduled for Sunday, including Team Canada against both Ontario and Quebec. 23:04ET 01-02-14 cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys ' ' ' |

BALTIMORE - Dan Duquettes job description includes making trades that will help improve the Baltimore Orioles. cheap jerseys from china .This off-season, Duquette was in the middle of a potential blockbuster deal.Duquette, the Orioles president of baseball operations, acknowledged Saturday there was substance to reports that the Toronto Blue Jays were in pursuit of him to be club president.A lot of times, players will be a trade rumour and sometimes managers get traded, Duquette said. Its even more rare that executives get traded, but occasionally it happens. Its a unique experience. I think when you have a good team and you do well, people take notice.Under Duquettes guidance, the Orioles won 96 games last season, captured the AL East for the first time since 1997 and advanced to the AL Championship Series. That piqued Torontos interest. As you get better as an organization, things that youre doing are trying to be either emulated or acquired, Orioles manager Buck Showalter noted. Its inevitable as an organization that, as you get better, people are going to be coveted more.Because Duquette is under contract with Baltimore through 2018, the Blue Jays had to offer Baltimore ample compensation to secure his services. No deal was made, so Duquette was talking about Orioles baseball on Saturday at FanFest, the teams annual winter convention. He insisted that Torontos advances did not distract him from seeking to put a better club on the field in 2015.Its important for the Orioles fans to know that my focus and my singular focus is on improving the team, he said. We do that day by day, trade by trade, addition by addition. We did that this year in the off-season like weve done it in the past. With the exception of Duquettes potential departure, its been a quiet off-season for Baltimore. The losses include free agent outfielders Nelson Cruz and Nick Markakis, along with reliever Andrew Miller. The most notable addition is outfielder Travis Snider, obtained in a trade with Pittsburgh. But thats typical of Duquette, who followed a quiet winter in 2014 by adding Cruz and Ubaldo Jimenez during spring training. While its important to improve your ballclub in off-season, were not really trying to win the off-season, Duquette said. Were trying to put together a team that can compete and get to the off-season and prevail. Thats different from making headlines in the winter time.Showalter had absolutely no complaint about the teams off-season activity. As we get into spring and there comes a need, well be able to do it, he said. The Orioles played much of the 2014 season without injured stars Manny Machado and Matt Wieters. Having them in the lineup will make more of a difference than any trade or free agent addition. The biggest and most powerful improvement we have to our ballclub this year is Machado coming back and Wieters coming back, Duquette said.In other news, suspended slugger Chris Davis said Saturday his use of Adderall last season was not as a performance enhancer but rather a way to cope with an oblique injury that landed him on the disabled list and played havoc with his swing. It was never a baseball issue, he said. Just an everyday life thing.Davis was suspended for 25 games. The punishment will expire after opening day.I was just kind of overwhelmed with everything that was going on last year with the injury, he said. There were a lot of things that were taking my focus away from baseball.Davis said he had previously been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder, which got him a green light from the independent administrator of Major League Baseballs drug program to use the drug in 2008.I had an exemption in the past. It was denied in 2013 and obviously, I shouldnt have been taking it last year, Davis said. It was a moment of weakness. After batting .286 with 53 homers and 138 RBIs in 2013, Davis numbers slipped dramatically in 2014 to .196 with 26 homers and 72 RBIs.This year, he expects things to be different.Being away from it a month longer than the rest of these guys was tough at first, but I used it to my advantage to get into my workouts a little bit earlier, Davis said. I definitely think last year got off to a slow start, so this year I wanted to get off on the right foot. Im doing some different workouts this year.He jokingly said that included bunting down the third-base line, a way to cope with the shift that limited his effectiveness. wholesale nfl jerseys . Wearing the No. 9 bib, Goergl timed 1 minute, 24.23 seconds down the Olympia delle Tofane course. With changing light making it more difficult for the top-ranked skiers starting 16-22, overall World Cup leader Maria Hoefl-Riesch finished second, 0.04 seconds behind. Nicole Hosp of Austria, another early starter, was third, 0.34 back. It was the sixth win of Goergls World Cup career and her victories are now spread evenly between giant slalom (2), super-G (2) and downhill (2). Goergl also swept gold medals in both super-G and downhill at the 2011 world championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, and took bronze in both downhill and giant slalom at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. With her last win coming in a downhill on home snow in Altenmarkt two weeks ago, her form is right on track for the Sochi Games, which open Feb. 7. "Yes, I feel very comfortable on my material," said Goergl, who let out a loud scream when she finished her run and saw the No. 1 next to her name. "The shape is growing, and Im happy that I can ski the way that I want to ski, and that Im healthy." Goergls mother, Traudl Hecher, won bronze medals at the 1960 and 64 Olympics. Her older brother Stephan was also a World Cup skier, although he retired midway through last season. "Of course I saw all the trophies of my mom. And I was very psyched the very first time I stood) on skis," Goergll said. cheap nfl jerseys. "I always wanted to go faster and faster." Goergl is also known for her singing, having sung the official tune for the Garmisch worlds at the opening ceremony. "If I want to (sing) I want to do it professionally," Goergl said. "Skiing is the focus now, and well see what the future brings." The top Americans were Julia Mancuso in seventh and Stacey Cook in ninth, both season bests. Lara Gut of Switzerland finished 19th and had her lead in the super-G standings cut to three points ahead of Anna Fenninger of Austria, who was fifth. In the overall standings, Hoefl-Riesch holds a 107-point lead over Fenninger. Hoefl-Rieschs previous best result in super-G this season was eighth. "Finally I made no big mistake," Hoefl-Riesch said. "Im proud and happy." Hosp was also third in a super-G in Beaver-Creek, Colorado, in November. "I feel really good this year in super-G and I know I can do really fast," said Hosp, the 2007 overall winner, who missed the Vancouver Games due to injury. "There (were) very hard times for me the last years. Now I got my feeling back." The super-G kicked off a busy schedule of four races in four days in the resort known as the "Queen" of the Italian Dolomites. Downhill races are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, followed by another super-G on Sunday. Two of this weeks races were originally scheduled for last weekend in Cortina but were wiped out due to heavy snowfall. The other two were moved from Garmisch due to a lack of snow in the German resort. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys ' ' ' |

Gilmore Junio has decided to take one for the team, giving up his spot in Wednesdays 1000-metre speed skating final for Canadian teammate Denny Morrison.wholesale nfl jerseys . The three-time Olympian Morrison failed to qualify at the 1,000 distance at the Olympic trials in Calgary last month, falling just 50 metres short of the finish. But Junio, who finished 11th on Monday in his Olympic debut in the mens 500, said Tuesday its the right thing to do. How Denny is skating now, I believe its in the best interest of the team if he races, Junio said in a statement released by Speed Skating Canada. To represent Canada at the Olympics is a huge honour and privilege but I believe that as Canadians, were not just here to compete; we are here to win. Denny has proven to be a consistent medal threat in the distance. Its true Morrison is a contender at 1,000. Hes currently sixth in the World Cup standings at the distance, with a pair of fourth place finishes. In the past, hes won two silver medals at the world championships in the 1,000. The 28-year-old Fort St. John, B.C., native will try to win his first individual Olympic medal. Hes won gold and silver the last two Olympics as part of Canadas team pursuit. This is an amazing gesture and Im ready to make the most of this opportunity, Morrison said. Shani Davis of the United States will be gunning for another groundbreaking achievement in Wednesdays 1,000 metre race. Davis, 31, can become the first man ever to win three consecutive Olympic gold medals in speed skating, and the first American to do three straight in any Winter Games sport. The Chicago native, who trained extensively at the Calgary Oval earlier this century, became the first African American to win Olympic gold in an individual Winter Games sport in 2006. Since then, hes set the world record at 1,000 and holds the top 10 sea level times at the distance. Given that Davis has twice won Olympic gold at 1,000 but has settled for silver twice in the 1,500, you might expect him to be more desirous of grabbing gold at the longer distance. Not so. "Those are my babies, man. I cant love one more than the other," he told The Associated Press last week. "Ive got two hands for two medals." Davis has shown signs of mortality in recent weeks. After winning the first three World Cup races at 1,000 this season, he finished third in December in Berlin to 2010 Olympic silver medallist Tae-Bum Mo of South Korea and Michel Mulder of the Netherlands. Last month, he split two races at the world sprint championships in January with Denis Kuzin of Kazakhstan. Other medal contenders include Dutch competitor Kjled Nuis and Brian Hansen, like Davis from the Chicago area. Three other Canadians join Morrison in Wednesdays race. William Dutton of Humboldt, Sask., and Muncef Ouardi each skated in the 500 metres on Monday. Dutton impressed at the sprint worlds Japan last month with a fourth place showing, although some of the worlds best elected not to travel to Japan. Vincent De Hatre of Cumberland, Ont., will make his Olympic debut. The 19-year-old surprised many at the Olympic trials by posting the fastest time at 1,000. cheap nfl jerseys . This was the first year that Q-school only offered status on the PGA Tours secondary circuit. Fischer finished at 31-under 401 in the six-round tournament at PGA West. As the medallist , he is assured entry into every Web.com Tour event. Scott Pinckney shot a 68 to finnish second. wholesale jerseys. Pinckney and the other players in the top 10 will have full status through 12 tournaments. After that, the priority ranking will be reshuffled depending on the money list. That group includes Max Homa. Players who finished between 11th and 45th do not face the reshuffle until after the eighth event. BARCELONA, Spain -- Second-seeded David Ferrer was ousted from the Barcelona Open by a Russian opponent for the second straight year and defending champion Rafael Nadal laboured to victory on Wednesday. Gio Gonzalez Authentic Jersey . Ferrer was unable to find his rhythm in losing 6-4, 6-2 to Teymuraz Gabashvili in his opening match while Nadal struggled past fellow Spanish player Albert Ramos 7-6 (2), 6-4. Nadal eventually overcame his 103rd-ranked opponent to reach the third round, rebounding from a surprise loss to Ferrer in the Monte Carlo Masters quarterfinals. "After losing in the Monte Carlo I wanted to raise my game here," Nadal said. "It just took a while." Eight-time winner Nadal was made to work against the stubborn Ramos, who broke back in the 11th game to force the first-set tiebreaker. Nadal eventually came out on the winning end of a long rally of baseline shots for a 4-2 lead as he went on to take the set. Nadal was steadier after that but still could not shake Ramos. He sealed it after a quick talk with the tournament doctor by breaking his fellow left-hander to win the match. "I had to accept that I was going to be made to work today, that I was not playing at my best level," Nadal said. "But I got through it." Nadal will face Ivan Dodig next after the Croatian dismissed Feliciano Lopez of Spain 6-1, 6-4. Ferrer, meanwhile, will not be facing Nadal in the final for a fifth time after the 55th-ranked Gabashvili dominated Ferrer on his favoured clay to reach the last 16. Gabashvili kept Ferrer running to the corners, and the fifth-ranked Spaniard was surprisingly unable to keep up with shots he normally returns, looking fatigued at times. Ferrer netted to give his opponent a triple set-point opportunity to close out the first frame, which Gabashvili did by smashing a crosscourt forehand Ferrer couldnt handle. Gabashvili maintained his play from the start of the second set to race to 3-0 when Ferrer skied his return high and into the crowd. Ferrer, who lost at this same stage last season to Dmitry Tursunov, slapped a crosscourt forehand long for Gabashvili to clinch it. "Three weeks ago I lost to Ferrer in Miami but I dominated that first set. Today, I wanted to maintain my energy and keep it going, which I did for (90) minutes, but any more and it might have been tougher to win," Gabashvili said after winning for the first time on the third try against Ferrer. Ferrer wasnt the only significant player to exit early as third-seeded Fabio Fognini retired to injury while losing 6-0, 4-0 to Santiago Giraldo of Colombia. Eighth-seeded Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine was also ousted by Spanish player Albert Montanes 7-6 (5), 6-3. Other second-round winners included sixth-seeded Nicolas Almagro and fellow Spaniard Albert Montanes. Jordan Zimmermann Authentic Jersey . Grabner scored on a breakaway 3:53 into overtime as the Islanders defeated the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 on Tuesday. Gio Gonzalez Jersey . Davis set career highs with 40 points and 21 rebounds, and EricGordon made two crucial free throws in overtime to lead the Pelicans to a 121-120 overtime victory over the Boston Celtics on Sunday night.TORONTO -- TylerBozak is anxious to get back into the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup after missing almost a month with a hamstring injury. But that doesnt mean hes making any promises about playing Saturday against the Washington Capitals. Bozak was one of just three players to skate Friday and said he was fine despite leaving the ice earlier than MarkFraser and FrazerMcLaren. "Its all good, just a little bit of a hard skate," Bozak said Friday. "Its needed, and hopefully Ill feel good tomorrow morning and go from there." Bozak has missed 11 straight games dating back to the Leafs game at the Columbus Blue Jackets on Oct. 25. He has been nearing a return all week, but theres no guarantee hell play against Washington. He said hes not going to rush back if the hamstring doesnt feel right. "You want to get back out there but at the same time, its a long season," Bozak said. "Theres a ton of hockey still to be played, so you dont want to push yourself and tweak something or get hurt again or even just not be able to play to your ability and hold the team back a little bit." The plan was for Bozak to get treatment Friday night and then again Saturday morning. "Hopeefully it all works well," the centre said. Bryce Harper Jersey. Roommate, friend and regular linemate PhilKessel has been asking Bozak "quite a bit" when hell be back. In Bozaks absence, Kessel has played on a line centred by NazemKadri, JamesvanRiemsdyk and, most recently, PeterHolland. Still, Bozak said Kessel doesnt want him to come back too soon. And theres a need for some self-restraint, too, given that hamstring injuries can linger. "The hamstring you use quite a bit in this sport," Bozak said. "Whatever you do, its probably something thats going to nag for a little bit so I want to get most of it healed up before I try to do too much strenuous activity." NOTES -- The Leafs did dry-land workouts Friday, the morning after losing 4-2 to the Nashville Predators. Coach Randy Carlyle wondered after the game if he and the coaching staff pushed players too hard in practices or morning skates and said its their job to monitor fatigue. Carlyle did not address the media Friday. ... Toronto signed forward ConnorBrown to a three-year, entry-level contract. The 2012 sixth-round pick leads the OHL in points with 46 while playing for the Erie Otters. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys ' ' ' |

METAIRIE, La. Brandon Moss Jersey . -- Roland "Champ" Bailey, who turns 36 next month, figures theres no use trying to fool anyone -- least of all himself -- about his age. As of now, hes the oldest every-down player on New Orleans roster; place kicker ShayneGraham is his only elder teammate. "If you put me on any team, Im always going to be the old guy," Bailey said. "Its just something Ive got to get used to." Preferring to avoid comparisons to the player he was several years ago, Baily is focusing on what he can do in 2014. Thats when the Saints relatively young and partly overhauled secondary will need his leadership, veteran savvy, and still formidable play-making skills. "One thing I dont want to do is look back or look too far ahead. Im taking care of whats in front of me. Thats getting in shape and getting to know my guys," Bailey said. "My first thing is to lead by example, show how hard I can work and try to lead that way. And all these guys -- I know I have a lot of experience and Im not going to shy away from telling them things I think they need to hear and making sure Im there for them when they have questions." Now entering his 16th NFL season, Bailey has been named to 12 Pro Bowls. His 52 career interceptions are the most among active players. He was among the more high-profile free-agent additions New Orleans made this off-season, along with safety JairusByrd. Unlike Bailey, Byrd is in the prime of his career, entering his sixth season with three Pro Bowls and 22 interceptions and 11 forced fumbles already to his name. Also unlike Bailey, Byrd was not available to participate in voluntary off-season practices this week because of back surgery. Coach Sean Payton said Byrds procedure to address a nagging problem with a disc should not sideline the safety beyond the start of training camp. "Its something that didnt need to be done, but both he and ourselves felt like it would be something that would prevent any issues in the fall," Payton said. "Our guess would be that well be real cautious ... and then hell start up training camp with no problem." Bailey, who last season missed 11 games with a left foot injury, said he feels good now, and backed it up with his performance on the field. During 11-on-11 drills, Bailey made a leaping breakup of LukeMcCowns pass intended for AndyTanner along the sideline. Later, Bailey tipped McCowns slant pass intended for KennyStills, resulting in an interception by linebacker KyleKnox. "He looks fantastic," defensive co-ordinator Rob Ryan said. "You look out there and you think hes one of those young guys running around. But hes bringing excitement to our defence and knowledge and its awesome to add a great player like him." Quarterback DrewBrees recalled throwing an interception that Bailey returned for a 25-yard touchdown in 2005, when Brees was with San Diego and Bailey with Denver. The Broncos came back to win that game in large part because of Baileys play, and Brees said Baileys play-making was why game plans included "no-throw zones," whenever Denver was the opponent. "Certain routes, certain areas of the field, you just knew: Dont even think about it. Its not worth it," Brees recalled. The Saints hope Bailey will still come up with such plays while mentoring younger cornerbacks including 2010 first-round pick PatrickRobinson, who missed most of last season with a knee injury; rookie Stanley Jean-Baptiste, a second round pick; and third-year cornerback CoreyWhite. Even KeenanLewis, the Saints top cornerback, could benefit from Baileys presence. "Theres so much value in having a guy like that," Brees said. "Not only what he can teach our young guys, but just hes still and extremely productive player. ... He wouldnt have chosen the New Orleans Saints if he didnt think we had a legitimate shot here -- and that he could help us." Notes: In addition to Byrd, those missing practice included DT JohnJenkins, DE TyrunnWalker, WR JosephMorgan and WR Brandin Cooks. Cooks was excused to finish the school year at Oregon State. Payton declined to address the conditions of Jenkins, Walker or Morgan, though Morgan wore a sleeve his left knee, which he injured last training camp, putting him out for the season. Coco Crisp Athletics Jersey . Gretzky was asked if he believes Montreal Canadiens defenceman PK Subban should be on Canadas blueline in February at the Sochi Olympics. "Im not going to get in the middle of that controversy because Stevie Yzerman obviously knows what hes doing, he won a gold medal in 2010," said Gretzky. Joe Morgan Athletics Jersey . Now Samardzija has his second win in three starts for a team trying to turn around its season. Samardzija tossed seven solid innings, JuniorLake hit two home runs and EmilioBonifacio added a two-run shot as the Cubs extended their winning streak to five with a 5-2 victory over the Miami Marlins on Saturday.ORLANDO, Fla. -- When Magic coach JacqueVaughn was asked about his teams noticeable win discrepancy this season in games at home versus on the road, he likened their home floor to feeling like a "fluffed pillow" for his young team. It found that warm embrace again, this time at the expense of a team fighting for its playoff positioning. TobiasHarris had 25 points and 11 rebounds, and Orlando beat the Portland Trail Blazers 95-85 on Tuesday night to stop a nine-game losing streak. Nik Vucevic added 22 points and 10 boards for the Magic, who led by just eight at the half but used scoring spurts in the third and fourth quarters to put the game away. VictorOladipo had 13 points and six assists. Orlando improved to 16-18 at home, compared to 4-34 on the road. "When you play on the road its a lot different," Harris said. "Their crowd gives them energy just like our crowd does. We know we have to get better on the road, but were playing good at home and tonight was a good win for us." The Magic earned their fifth victory against a Western Conference team, but just their third over one that entered the night in position to make the playoffs. Orlando previously posted wins against the Clippers and Thunder in the Amway Center. The Magic also matched their win total for all of last season with nine games remaining. "I was really pleased with the mental focus that we had from the beginning of the game, to come out and not use being on the West Coast as an excuse," Vaughn said. "It was impressive to hold that team to 85 points." RobinLopez led Portland with 20 points and 13 rebounds. The Blazers, who entered the night in fifth place in the West, have lost three straight. They were without forward LaMarcusAldridge, who missed his seventh consecutive game with a lower back contusion. After getting blown out at Charlotte on Saturday, the Blazers rebounded and showed lots of fight in nearly upending defending champion Miami on Monday night. They didnt seem to have anything left at times against Orlando, which went right at Portlands front line. The Magic outscored the Blazzers 46-44 in the paint. Tony Phillips Athletics Jersey. Portland coach Terry Stotts said before the game that the tight playoff race in the West dictated a need to "accumulate wins where we can get them." He acknowledged afterward that they missed one of those opportunities against the Magic. "This is a very, extremely disappointing loss and in fact it was a game we needed to have," Stotts said. "Weve got 10 games left. Theres got to be a sense of urgency every game. Playoff race is tight. Wed like to look forward, but weve got four teams that are right on our heels, and every game has a new sense of urgency." The Magic closed the third quarter on an 11-2 run and increased their lead to 19 in the opening minutes of the fourth. Harris was the most active player for Orlando in the final quarter, scoring eight points. The Blazers were finally able to string together some baskets and cut the lead down to 11 points on a 3-pointer by WesleyMatthews with 2:31 to play. But the Magic were able to close out the game from the foul line. Orlando took an eight-point lead into halftime after shooting 50 per cent from the field in the first half. Vucevic led the scoring effort with 14 points. The Magic also had 10 assists on their 21 baskets, including four from Oladipo. Lopez scored 10 first-half points for Portland, which shot just 40 per cent from the field. The Blazers also struggled from the foul line, connecting on only 2 of their 12 attempts. The victory aside, Vaughn said there wont be any heavy focus on wins or losses for his team the rest of the way. "Have not mentioned one time what our record is to the team," he said. "What I do mention to those guys, and (will) when we practice on Thursday, is lets come to work and get better. Thats how well continue to judge each other and continue to push each other." NOTES: Orlando improved to 5-24 against the Western Conference. ... The Magic honoured GrantHill between the first and second quarter as part of their "Legends Nights" season-long series to honour former players as part of the teams 25th anniversary season celebration. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys ' ' ' |

LEXINGTON, Ky. Nike Air Max 90 Herren . -- Police used pepper balls to control some rowdy fans and several couch fires were lit in the streets after Kentucky fell to Connecticut in the NCAA basketball championship final. Susan Straub, a spokeswoman for the city of Lexington, said 19 couch fires were lit overnight in the State Street area. There were 23 injuries, most of them minor and treated at the scene. She confirmed 31 arrests but had no further details in a statement released Tuesday. She said in the statement that one of the injured was hit by a train in the State Street area and taken to a hospital. She had no further word on that persons condition or identity. Shirtless youths streamed into the streets soon after Kentuckys 60-54 loss to Connecticut on Monday night. Some were crying and others hugging after the defeat. The crowd continued to grow after the game despite a chilly, rain-soaked night in the Lexington area. Some fights broke out, but police used pepper balls to control the most unruly fans before the crowd dispersed overnight. The Dutch were knocked from top spot despite winning two European Championship qualifiers, including an 11-0 victory over San Marino. Germany stays third and Uruguay rises to a best-ever fourth. NEW YORK -- For CCSabathia, theres no better place to pitch than Yankee Stadium. The big left-hander decided to stay with New York rather than test the free-agent market, agreeing Monday to a new deal that adds $30 million and one season to his existing contract, giving him a package that pays $122 million over the next five years. "My son loves it here. All my kids love it here. My wife loves it here, obviously, and I do, too. I love pitching for the Yankee fans and everything, so it was the easy choice," Sabathia said during a conference call. The 31-year-old had until midnight to opt out of his current agreement, which had $92 million remaining over the next four years in $23 million annual salaries. New York added a $25 million salary for 2016 and gets a $25 million option for 2017 with a $5 million buyout. "It was just more time. Thats all it was. It was never a question about money or anything like that," Sabathia said. "I just want to end my career here. I want to make sure I end my career as a Yankee and, hopefully, Ive done that." Sabathia agreed to a $161 million, seven-year deal with New York before the 2009 season. He has gone 59-23 with a 3.18 ERA during the regular season for the Yankees. Sabathia headed a staff that included rookie IvanNova, injury prone PhilHughes, inconsistent A.J.Burnett and surprise additions FreddyGarcia and BartoloColon. Without Sabathia, the Yankees rotation would have been in trouble. "CC is the ace of our pitching staff, a leader in our clubhouse and a driving force for the Yankees in our community," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said in a statement. "He is exactly the type player and person that Yankees fans and this organization can bbe proud of.Nike Air Max 90 Damen. We are excited that he will be wearing the pinstripes for many years to come." When he signed with the Yankees after pitching for Cleveland (2001-08) and Milwaukee (2008), Sabathia moved his family from California, where he grew up in Vallejo, to Alpine, N.J. He said the key for him was his family "and making sure everything was kosher with them" with living in the New York area. Then he learned what it was like pitching in the $1.5 billion new Yankee Stadium. "The energy, what you get coming out the bullpen, the fans," he said. "Everything it is it is to be pitching in New York, in the Bronx. Its just so much fun. To be part of this organization is just a dream for me." Sabathias option becomes guaranteed if he does not end the 2016 season on the disabled list because of a left shoulder injury, does not spend more than 45 days of 2016 on the DL with a left shoulder injury or does not make six or more relief appearances in 2016 because of shoulder issues. He retains a hotel suite on trips, a no-trade provision and the right to buy tickets. Listed by the Yankees as 290 pounds, Sabathia lost weight going into spring training but appeared to gain it back this season. He went 19-8 with a 3.00 ERA but was 0-1 in his last three starts, then didnt get a decision in two post-season starts and allowed a key run in Game 5 against Detroit, when he made his first career relief appearance and New York was eliminated with a 3-2 loss. He plans on losing weight. "Its something I do regardless, and be proactive," he said. "I just need to go out and be healthy and try to do what I can to be up there for every start for this team. For me, that means losing weight, so thats what Ill do."cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys ' ' ' |

VILLARREAL, Spain -- Giovanni Dos Santos scored two goals and set up another pair as Villarreal romped to a 5-1 Spanish league win Monday over familiar foe Real Sociedad. D Brickashaw Ferguson Jersey . The Mexico striker opened the scoring in the 16th minute before setting up Ikechuwku Uche from the left side in the 27th. Dos Santos created space in the 33rd to unleash a left-footed shot before again picking out Uche in the 55th for 4-0. Moi Gomez made it 5-0 in the 58th before Imanol Agirretxe scored a consolation goal for the Basque side, which will play a Copa del Rey return leg at El Madrigal on Thursday after a scoreless draw to start the last 16 matchup. Villarreal moved two points clear of Sociedad into fifth ahead of their third meeting inside a week.Dennis Byrd Womens Jersey . "There are a lot of kids out there in my situation, probably far worse situations," he said in a phone interview with The Associated Press. Jeremy Kerley New York Jets Jersey . -- The Erie Otters won their eighth straight game with a four-goal outburst in the third en route to an 8-4 win over the Sarnia Sting in Ontario Hockey League play Saturday.HOUSTON -- After the Philadelphia 76ers tied an NBA record with their 26th consecutive loss, one of their youngest voices spoke loudest. MichaelCarter-Williams, one of six rookies on the NBAs youngest team, delivered a pep talk after JamesHardens triple-double led the Houston Rockets to a 120-98 victory on Thursday night. "During the game a couple of guys had long faces ... and I found myself a little bit down," said Carter-Williams, who had 10 assists. "I just dont want anyone in this locker room feeling bad for themselves ... I think thats really important that we dont get down on ourselves and we just give up just because we have a certain amount of losses. "I just felt like I needed to speak my piece and make sure that guys are upbeat every single day." Philadelphia coach Brett Brown was impressed by the leadership the 22-year-old Carter-Williams showed. "He never would have done that two months ago," Brown said. "He wouldnt have done it two weeks ago. All these things, all these small wins we find along the way, thats our road map this year. And life moves on. The group will stay together and we will finish this thing out together." Harden had 26 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in three quarters for his second career triple-double as Houston picked up its fifth straight victory. "We did a great job of coming out tonight and taking care of business," Harden said. "No matter what their record was, we knew they were going to come here and play hard." The 76ers (15-57) stuck around early before a big second-quarter run allowed the Rockets to pull away and roll to the win. Philadelphia moved within a game of Milwaukee for the leagues worst record. Philadelphia matched the 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers for the NBAs worst skid and can set the record at home against Detroit on Saturday. "We move on," Brown said. "We are on a different path. We see this whole thing through a far different lens." JamesAnderson led the Sixers with 30 points and made six 3-pointers. The Sixers havent won since Jan. 29 and are two games away from going winless in two straight months. There was very little visible emotion as the final seconds ticked away and the players slowly made their way off the court. DwightHoward added 17 points with 13 rebounds for Houston. TerrenceJones had 20 points. There were a number of lowlights as the 76ers took their spot in history. One came when Howard blocked a shot by ThaddeusYoung and he fell backward to the ground. By the time he got up, the Rockets were already on the other end of the court running their offence. Calvin Pace Jersey. Another was when the Sixers got a steal, but gave it back seconds later when Youngs pass intended for Anderson sailed high over his head and into the crowd. Carter-Williams got in on the bad play action when, under heavy pressure from Harden, he simply threw the ball into the Philadelphia bench in the second quarter. But the game wasnt without some nice plays by the Sixers, who have continued to play hard during this terrible stretch. A highlight came when CasperWare grabbed a steal and made a 46-foot heave as time expired in the first quarter. That shot was part of a 12-0 run which got the Sixers within 35-33 early in the second quarter. A nice reverse layup by Anderson tied it at 43-all midway through the second quarter before Houston used a 20-6 run to take a 63-49 lead at halftime. The Sixers missed nine shots, including three layups, and had four turnovers as the Rockets built the lead. Houston was up by 17 late in the third quarter when the team went on an 8-0 run to pad the lead to 96-71. Brown addressed the dreadful stretch before the game and he isnt interested in anyones pity. "I hope they feel good about themselves," he said. "I dont want anyone feeling sorry for us or hanging our head ... we are going through something and we will get through it together." He also discussed their plan for rebuilding at length, saying he knew what he was getting into when he took the job and insisted this skid hasnt been difficult for him. "I can tell you very, very sincerely that this is something that in a twisted way is enjoyable in regards to watching the young guys get better," he said. "Obviously at times its hard going through it ... (but) I feel like were heading in the right direction." None of that can erase the fact that this streak now has its place in history as one of the worst in all of the four major professional sports. According to STATS LLC, the longest streaks in the other major sports are held by: -- In the NFL, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 26 losses in row, from Sept. 12, 1976-Dec. 4 1977. -- In MLB, the Philadelphia Phillies, 23 losses in a row, from Jan. 29, 1961-Aug. 20, 1961. -- In the NHL, the Pittsburgh Penguins, 18 losses in a row, from Jan. 13, 2004-Feb. 22, 2004. NOTES: Former Rockets and Hall of Famers HakeemOlajuwon and Moses Malone attended the game. Malone also played for the 76ers. ... TORONTO -- AndreaBargnanis first game at the Air Canada Centre as a visitor wasnt one he will particularly care to remember, but it could have been a lot worse. cheap nfl jerseys . DeMarDeRozan scored twenty points on Friday as the Toronto Raptors beat the New York Knicks 100-91 in pre-season action. Bargnani scored 10 points in 22 minutes of play and received a tepid reception from the Toronto crowd. A particularly disgruntled fan yelled out, "You suck, Bargnani," in between the American and Canadian anthems, but the 27-year-old didnt seem to take the boos to heart. "The fans have the right to do whatever they feel they want to do," Bargnani said after the game. "We had some good years, we had some bad years. a The only thing I have to say about the fans in Toronto is that I was lucky to play here for seven years." The booing from the half-filled arena wasnt as bad as expected. "It was actually not that bad," AmirJohnson said. "I heard some cheers, I heard a little bit of boos awe always had great battles in practice just going back and forth. He looked pretty good out there. I just wish the best for him." The seven-foot, 256-pound Bargnani was drafted first overall by Toronto in 2006, and went on to average 15.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game over seven seasons with the team. The Raptors tried to push Bargnani as the face of the franchise during his seven-year tenure with the organization, but fans failed to embrace him as the team had hoped. Shortly after DeRozan was drafted ninth overall in 2009, the shift to market DeRozan as the new face of the future began. Four years later, with RudyGay at DeRozans side, the two hope to be the one-two punch needed to help the Raptors end a five-year playoff drought. "Hes been here a long time," DeRozan said of his former teammate. "Way before I was here. Sometimes you just need a new home. A new place to start over and regroup and figure out a new identity." Through three pre-season games, DeRozan is turning heads. The fifth-year swingman continued his strong showing with a 15-point first half, on 7-for-15 shooting from the field and 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Torontos coaching staff has stressed attacking the basket to DeRozan. "I was eighth or whatever it was in free throws in the league (last season)," he said. "My goal is to try to get into the top five of free throws and that comes with being aggressive." CarmeloAnthony led New York with a game-high 24 points and added eight rebounds. The Knicks took a four-point lead into the fourth quarter after three tight quarters of basketball. After playing his starters throughout the first half, Raptors coach Dwane Casey elected to go with his reserves in the final frame. QuincyAcy got into the game for his first minutes of action this season and the move paid off. Acy and fellow sophomore TerrenceRoss combined to provide late-game heroics by reeling off their own 11-0 run to lead the Raptors to victory. "QuincyAcy got our attention, the coaching staffs attention," Casey said. "We knew what he could do, hes working his behind off. Theres nothing free, you get an opportunity to go in and play, you take advantage of it. When your numbers called, its an opportunity to go in there and do something and play and produce and he did that." The Raptors next head to Minnesota to face the Timberwolves on Saturday night. They open the regular season at home against the Celtics on Oct. 30. jerseys from china . The Lions traded their fifth overall pick in the 2014 CFL Draft to the Ottawa Redblacks for QB Kevin Glenn. wholesale nfl jerseys . Berdych, coming off a semifinal run at the Australian Open and Davis Cup win over the Netherlands, didnt face a break-point. A semifinalist two years ago here, he will play the winner of an all-French faceoff between Gilles Simon and Nicolas Mahut. The New England Patriots are a juggernaut on offence. QB TomBrady has now thrown for 940 yards in his first two games, the most ever by a QB over the first two weeks of a regular season. Bradys numbers are so good in fact, that he is on pace to throw 56 TD passes and over 7,500 yards this season if he stays healthy! I think the Pats have a definitive advantage on the field, and it has to do with personnel. Second-year tight ends RobGronkowski and AaronHernandez are making all the difference this season. Many wondered why the Pats parted ways with veteran TE AlgeCrumpler this offseason, but it now appears quite obvious why they did. Both Gronkowski and Hernandez create major mismatches for this offence, and they present a "pick your poison" dilemma for opposing defences. Both tight ends are big and both can run. The Patriots like to keep them both on the field, because they run routes effectively and can also block at the point of attack. You simply cannot cover them with linebackers or safeties, and if you decide to leave bigger bodies on the field to stop the run, then you suffer a death by aerial assault. If you choose to add smaller and faster cornerbacks into the mix to prevent the tight ends from catching the football, then the Pats run the football down your throat. TomBrady has already developed quite a chemistry with his tight ends, as he has targeted them on 47 per cent of his passes already this season. Since the beginning of 2010, Brady has thrown his TEs 23 TD passes, almost twice as many as any other QB-TE tandem in the NFL. When you factor in other skill players such as wide receivers DeionBranch and WesWelker, the Patriots passing attack becomes all that much more difficult to defend. Consider that ChadOchocinco is still learning his playbook, and hasnt yet seen meaningful snaps. This offence could become that much more dangerous with him on the field, however he may have problems even seeing playing time when you consider just how good both young tight ends are. Playing Through Pain The gutsiest performance of the week goes to Dallas Cowboys QB TonyRomo. After being sidelined in Sundays game against the San Francisco 49ers with a punctured lung and fractured rib, Romo re-entered the game down by 10, and engineered a come-from-behind, overtime victory on the road. I think Romo not only demonstrated what type of leader he is, but he also showed his competitive spirit. After JonKitna threw a costly interception, Romo slammed the bench on the sidelines and then began looking for his helmet. He knew he was coming back into the game. Romo was seen huddling his offence together on the sidelines, and speaking individually with his skill players. The comeback was underway. Romo then efficiently marched his offence down the field, hitting WR MilesAustin for a touchdown pass down the right sideline, and then promptly led a two-minute drive to put the Cowboys in position for a game-tying field goal that forced the game into overtime. On their very first OT possession, head coach Jason Garrett called a play-action post throw that caught the 49ers off guard, and Romo found WR JesseHolley for a 77-yard gain that set up the game-winning chip shot field goal. At the end of the day, Romo passed for 345 yards and 2 TDs without throwing an interception. His QB rating of 116.4 was the highest of any quarterback this past weekend. The question continues to be asked: is TonyRomo an elite QB? In my opinion, he is not yet. While he has been named to the Pro Bowl three times, and has thrown for over 4,000 yards twice in his career, he has failed to win consistently in the post-season. Look at the best QBs in the NFL: TomBrady, PeytonManning, AaronRodgers and DrewBrees. All have one thing in common: theyve won Super Bowls. Romo has a playoff record of 1-3, and in order for him to take the next step, he needs to win in the playoffs. Thee question will continue to linger as to whether or not Romo is one of the best, but nobody can question his toughness or his commitment after this past weekend. nfl jerseys china. . Proving His Worth Give Atlanta Falcons QB MattRyan a ton of credit. He slayed the dragon this weekend. Ryan is the franchise quarterback in Atlanta, he led the Falcons to an NFC-best 13-3 record last year in the regular season. Still, he may not be the most popular QB in his city. If you watched this past Sunday, it is quite obvious that many fans still cheer for former Falcons franchise QB, and current Eagles starter MichaelVick. In a highly-anticipated duel between two pivots this past weekend, Ryan outgunned Vick, as the Falcons beat the Eagles 35-31. There was a lot of pressure on Ryan this weekend, not just because of the Falcons lackluster performance in a Week 1 loss in Chicago, but because many felt that he needed to play well in order to win over the fans, and to justify himself as the Falcons "best option" at QB. As good as Ryan has played in his first three seasons, he has not yet won a playoff game, and many are unwilling to consider him an elite QB until he does just that. After setting career highs in virtually every major passing category last year, Vick was named the NFLs Comeback Player of the Year, and was awarded a six-year, $100 million contract to make him one of the leagues highest-paid players. Ryan is the opposite of Vick in many ways. His style of play is conservative rather than flashy. He doesnt scramble. He operates in the offence and takes what the defence gives him. Ryan did what he does best versus the Eagles, picking apart their zone blitzes on his way to a conservative 195 yards passing and a career-high four touchdowns. Vick, meanwhile, was a turnover waiting to happen, throwing an interception and fumbling two times before having to leave the game in the third quarter with a concussion. It shouldnt need to be stated, but MattRyan is the right choice at QB for the Atlanta Falcons, and he proved it on Sunday. Jacksonville Blues Every former quarterback that watched the Jacksonville Jaguars play the New York Jets on Sunday can empathize with Jags QB LukeMcCown. Facing arguably the best defence in the NFL, on the road, McCown went 6-for-19 for 59 yards and threw four interceptions before being benched in favour of rookie BlaineGabbert in the third quarter. Rex Ryans pressure schemes consistently confused the eighth-year journeyman QB, and he often forced the football into double coverage. As quarterbacks, weve all had days when nothing seems to go right. You throw an early interception, then try and make up for it later by forcing a throw into tight coverage. You then begin pressing, and the picks keep piling onto each other. Before you know it, your team is down by four touchdowns and youre on the bench. The Jacksonville Jaguars must be second-guessing their decision to cut former starter DavidGarrard right about now. Head coach Jack Del Rios reasoning for the move was that Garrard never could seem to get it going consistently for this Jags offence, and it appeared their best chance was with McCown, who outplayed Garrard in the pre-season. The Jags were hoping to let Gabbert sit this season, and allow him to develop after a subpar showing in training camp. Two things are now happening in Jacksonville. It appears that Gabberts timetable to start has been moved up, even if he isnt quite ready yet for the responsibilities of being a starting pivot in the NFL. Secondly, head coach Jack Del Rios hot seat just got hotter, since all player and personnel decisions inevitably fall on the shoulders of the head coach. Cutting DavidGarrard may have taken the Jags from being a contender in the AFC South, and forced them into a rebuilding year with a rookie QB. Thats not good news for Del Rios future, and thats certainly not what Jags fans or their front office want to hear. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys ' ' ' |

MONTREAL -- It seems that New Jersey Devils veterans JaromirJagr and MartinBrodeur still have some good hockey left in their 41-year-old bodies. Nike Air Max 90 Schweiz . The future hall of famers stole the show at the Bell Centre on Tuesday night, with Jagr moving into seventh place in all-time goal scoring and Brodeur stopping 29 shots as the Devils downed the Montreal Canadiens 4-1. "We talk to each other a lot about certain things," Brodeur said. "I think we have a lot in common about what our careers brought us. "Its nice to relate to a guy. Its been a while since Ive been able to do that here in New Jersey because we had so many young guys. Its been fun to watch him play. Its pretty impressive what hes accomplished." Jagr tied the game at 17:23 of the first period with his first goal in 11 games and his 14th of the season. But more importantly, it was the 695th of a career that began in 1990 with the Pittsburgh Penguins. That moved him past MarkMessier into seventh place all-time in goals. It came days after he passed former Penguins teammate MarioLemieux for seventh place in career points with 1,724. Brodeur, making his first start in four games, extended his NHL record for wins to 682, although a MaxPacioretty goal at the 7:00 mark of the first period kept his shutout record at 124. At the end, both were called onto the ice for an ovation from the 21,273 Bell Centre fans as Brodeur was named first star and Jagr got second star. "I didnt expect that in somebody elses building, but theres a little history here for me," said Brodeur, a Montreal native whose father Denis was once the Canadiens team photographer. "Its definitely nice of them to do that." Montreal had a 30-19 shot advantage, but the Devils (20-18-10) scored more than two goals for the first time in six outings and the second time in their last 11. Brodeur and some tenacious third-period checking did the rest as New Jersey stretched its points streak to five games. Canadiens coach Michel Therrien felt his team played with energy, but just couldnt score. "We competed," said Therrien. "We set the tempo, but the story of the game was Marty Brodeur. "He was phenomenal. We were the attacking team. We outshot them, but it was one of those nights when you run into a hot goaltender." Despite their age, neither Brodeur nor Jagr has decided on retirement just yet. The game was billed as possibly Brodeurs last visit to the Bell Centre, but hes not ready to concede that. "It might be my last one but it might not either," he said. "I just want to play well when I play. "It doesnt matter what situation Im in. Im there to win hockey games and thats it. Ill do that as long as they let me do it." Jagr, who was chosen to play for the Czech Republic at the Sochi Olympics next months, was even more adamant about continuing his career. "Ive said many times, Im not thinking about retiring yet," he said. "Im not counting my games yet, as long as I have fun." Goals early in the second frame from youngsters EricGelinas and AdamHenrique were the difference. DainiusZubrus scored into an empty net, with an assist from Jagr, in the final minute. Brodeur said Paciorettys goal on a long wrist shot that flew past his glove caused him to bear down and try to keep the Devils in the game. "Our team, were kind of goal challenged, so its hard to give up the first goal," he said. "I havent played in a while and I thought this is not good. But I picked it up after that a little bit and we played a really solid hockey game." Montreal (26-16-5) was coming off one of its best games of the season in a 2-1 win over Chicago but could not duplicate that effort. The Canadiens went 0 for 3 with the man advantage, a fifth-straight game with no power-play goals. Pacioretty struck first with his 20th of the season, but Jagr got it back when he got around JoshGorges and used his long reach to put the puck past CareyPrice and in off the far post. Gelinas scored from the point on a power play 1:20 into the second period and Henrique got his sixth goal in the last 10 games from a scramble in the Montreal crease at 4:02. The crowd booed as what appeared to be a BrendanGallagher goal was disallowed later by video review for inadvertently kicking the puck in late in the second. "Paul sent me a text this morning, just told me he loved me and wanted to go out and fight as hard as I would any other day," Simpson said Sunday after doing just that. ST. PAUL, Minn. -- JonathanBernier doesnt have the luxury of getting into a regular rhythm for the Los Angeles Kings. The clear backup to JonathanQuick, Bernier can sometimes go weeks between starts. Yet when he does play, Bernier is still expected to be sharp, make saves and win games. On Tuesday night, Bernier looked like an everyday goalie, shutting out Minnesota 4-0 in a game with playoff implications for the Kings. Despite being only his second start in February, Bernier stopped 26 shots, secured his first victory since Jan. 9, and didnt give up a goal for the first time since shutting out Edmonton last March. The performance came at a crucial time for Los Angeles (29-23-12). After losing five of six games, the victory over the Wild allowed the Kings to move into a tie with Dallas and Colorado for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. "I thought he was awesome, he was the best player on the ice," Los Angeles coach Darryl Sutter said. "Its great for him. The last five or six minutes, the team played for their goalie because hes given us a real good opportunity to win the game." Bernier found out after Mondays loss at Nashville that he would be starting against the Wild. "Its not easy, but thats my job," Bernier said. "Ive got to make sure Im ready every time I step in if I want to get back in." Berniers fifth career shutout was largely free of drama. Minnesota (28-26-9) had very few sustained stretches in the Los Angeles zone and had few good scoring chances. The best opportunity for the Wild came on a second-period three-on-two break, but Bernier stopped TomGilberts shot from the slot. "We kept everything to the outside," Bernier said. "On that (power play) in the second period, I knew that was a big (penalty kill) for us and the boys did a heck of a job. From there after, we had a lot of confidence and we shut the door." It didnt hurt that the Kings jumped on the Wild early. One night after feeling like they missed opportunities against the Predators, Los Angeles scored 44 seconds into the game and led 3-0 after the first period. JustinWilliams scored the initial quick goal when he tippedd a shot from the point and the puck bounced through the legs of goaltender NiklasBackstrom, who stopped just 11 shots for Minnesota. Nike Cortez Schweiz. DwightKing gave the Kings a 2-0 lead midway in the first period as Los Angeles took advantage of a Minnesota defensive mistake. AnzeKopitar found King all alone in front of the net and he quickly converted. Kopitar stretched the lead to 3-0 late in the first period when he ran a perfect give-and-go with DustinBrown. Brown had a pair of first-period assists for the Kings. That cushion was more than enough for Bernier against the Wild. "Its good to play with a lead," Bernier said. "Everyone was calmer, we could just play our style. As a team, we really came out strong. We knew it was a really big two points for us." While Los Angeles was happy to have won a game against another team in the Western Conference playoff race, the Wild were disappointed after a game filled with turnovers and defensive mistakes. "You create your own breaks in this game, we didnt do that," Minnesotas KyleBrodziak said. "We didnt create any breaks because we didnt deserve any and earn any. Its another game where we started on our heels and they took it to us and we didnt fight back." Offensively things werent any better. "We had nothing offensively," Wild coach Mike Yeo said. "There was too many things missing in our game to even have a sniff offensively. Puck support, battle level, going into hard areas, making plays, executing. Its kind of a long list." Notes: Brown has nine points (5 goals, 4 assists) in the past five games. ... Los Angeles C JeffCarter is still looking for his first point since being acquired from Columbus last week. ... Minnesota D TomGilbert, a Twin Cities native the Wild acquired Monday from Edmonton, was called for a holding penalty just 4:59 into the game. ... The Kings, a popular preseason pick to make the NHL playoffs, went 5-7-2 in February. Minnesota, which had the best record in the NHL at one point in December, was 4-7-2. The Wild is 8-19-6 since a Dec. 10 victory at Phoenix. ... Minnesota plays four of its next five games on the road. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys ' ' ' |

EDMONTON -- Edmonton Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly went through a normal day of practice Wednesday and showed no signs of any residual concussion symptoms following the nasty head shot he took from Toronto Argonaut defensive lineman Cleyon Laing last Saturday. Catfish Hunter Athletics Jersey . Reilly was knocked out the game and the team said on Sunday he had suffered a concussion. He missed practice Tuesday but was back taking most of the reps on Wednesday. "Today was pretty much full-go for me." the six-foot-three, 215-pound first-year Eskimo said afterwards. "Because its non-contract every day for us (quarterbacks) nothing changed for me than it would on a normal Day 2. (Thursday) we will probably be a little more rigorous than a normal Day 3 for me. Well come out, have a normal practice and then do some strenuous cardio stuff and just push everything a little harder than normal. "As long as everything continues to go as expected Im hopeful that Ill be cleared to play. There only a few days but those are long days, theres still lots to do." The 3-10 Eskimos play the 5-8 Montreal Alouettes Saturday in a game they have to win to retain any realistic playoff hopes. Reilly remained in the game for one play after the hit -- throwing a touchdown pass -- but was pulled after feeling dizziness and confusion on the sidelines. He said Wednesday hes felt no adverse symptoms since waking up on Sunday. "My schedule, my routine hasnt changed. The first night after the game even went pretty smoothly. Neck was a little sore that night but gone by the next morning. Since then theres been nothing to deal with. Meals have been going good, sleeping is going well, meetings and picking up the ready list and being prepared has all gone well." He admitted, however, that concussions affect people differently and hes not out of the woods yet. "This is a learning experience and realizing what guys go through when they get injured," he said. "Its not fun to be on this side of it but Im just thankful that things have gone well so far and hopefully they will continue to be that way. "It was disappointing not being able to practice yesterday. That was the first practice Ive ever missed, college, high school, professional or anything." Reilly, in his fourth CFL season, has taken a tremendous amount of punishment this season but said it was ironic that he took the most dangerous hit when he was doing what people have been saying he should do to protect himself. "Everybodys talked all season about how I need to change my style of play because Im going to get hurt and the play I get hurt on Im actually in the pocket and Im not out there running around trying to lower my head." He watched a replay of the hit early this week and said it was a "scary hit" but felt there was nothing he could have done differently to avoid it. "I just feel fortunate that there hasnt been any bad long-term symptoms to this point. But Im also not naive. I understand things can still creep up and until Im cleared to play Im not going to breathe too easily." Head coach Kavis Reed said while Reilly looked fine Wednesday and was sharp with his passes, the team will monitor him closely the rest of the week. "We still have 72 hours we can work with," he said. "There are still some hurdles he has to cross but right now were hopeful hell be cleared to play." Brandon Moss Athletics Jersey . The Kings have gone 6-0-3 over their last nine games despite having been held to three goals or fewer in eight of 10 contests this month. Los Angeles has failed to score more than two goals six times in that span. Glenn Hubbard Athletics Jersey . -- Packers cornerback TramonWilliams has been fined $26,250 for contact with an official, per NFL guidelines.PORTLAND, Ore. - Maximiliano Urruti scored in the final minute of stoppage time to give the Portland Timbers their first win of the season with a 3-2 victory over D.C. United on Saturday night. Futty Danso also scored for the Timbers, who were winless for their first eight matches of the season for the teams longest span without a victory since 2012. The streak was concerning for a team that went all the way to the Western Conference final last season. But Urruti came off the bench to snap it with a rebound from just inside the box as United goalkeeper Bill Hamid tumbled to the rain-soaked turf. There was four minutes of stoppage time at the end of the game. The loss snapped a five-match undefeated string for United, which pulled into a 2-all tie with an own goal in the 78th minute. Portland also scored in the first minute, when Gaston Fernandez manoeuvred around Hamid and found the net just 34 seconds into the game. It was the fastest goal for the team sincee Portland joined Major League Soccer. Brandon Moss Jersey. Fernandez, who came to the Timbers earlier this year, leads the team with four goals. A boot by Diego Valeri from just outside the box was wide left in the 16th minute. Arnaud scored the equalizer for United in the 21st minute. His shot from far out appeared to deflect off a Portland player for an arching curl that was impossible for goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts to stop. Danso put the Timbers back in front with a goal off a corner kick in the 38th minute. It was the defenders first goal for Portland since 2011. The own goal appeared to come off Danso after a header by United defender Cristian in a tangle in front of the net as the field was pounded by rain. Hamid played with his head wrapped after sustaining a nasty cut to the forehead late in the first half. The Timbers were coming off a 1-all draw last weekend against the Houston Dynamo, while United defeated FC Dallas in its last outing. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys ' ' ' |

Stewarts debut, a feel-good story in the Bronx, Heyward and Holliday return and more in Fridays Between the Lines. Jadeveon Clowney Jersey . 1. Blue Jays RHP ZachStewart impressed in his Major League debut, allowing two earned runs on seven hits, with four strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision against the Orioles. Stewart, who is 24, was 4-3 with a 4.39 ERA in a dozen starts at Double-A. The 24-year-old had 49 strikeouts and 21 walks in 69 2/3 innings, so hes not going to overpower in the majors. If hes going to stick around, Stewart will rely on location, keeping the ball down and inducing more groundballs than fly balls (he had eight ground ball outs and nine flyball outs in his debut). 2. Brewers RHP ZackGreinke has everything going for him but his ERA. Hes 6-2, with a 1.24 WHIP and a ridiculous strikeouts-per-nine rate of 11.81, easily the best of his career. His previous high was in 2009, when he struck out 9.51 per nine innings. Greinkes strikeout rate is also the best in baseball, among pitchers with at least 50 innings, this season. Torontos BrandonMorrow ranks second with 10.93 strikeouts per nine and hes the only other starter with more than ten strikeouts per nine innings. The downfall for Greinke thus far has been his home run rate, allowing seven homers in 53 1/3 innings (1.18 per nine innings), his highest rate since his rookie year and his rate of home runs per flyball is 13.5%, which ranks 12th-worst among pitchers with at least 50 innings this season. 3. Making a spot start for the Yankees Thursday, 32-year-old BrianGordon allowed two earned runs in 5 1/3 innings pitched in his first big league action since three relief appearances for Texas in 2008. Gordon had opted out of his minor league deal with the Philadelphia Phillies after going 5-0 with a 1.14 ERA in 12 games, nine of them starts, at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Gordon was dominating, posting 56 strikeouts and seven walks in 55 1/3 innings, so there is some reason to believe he could have success at the major league level. Gordon didnt start pitching until 2007, after his career as an outfielder stalled at Triple-A. However, to be fair, while its a tremendous story of perseverance, its not easy to place significant major league expectations on a 32-year-old rookie. In recognition of Gordons dominating strikeout-to-walk ratio at Triple-A, and Greinkes excellence, here are the major leaguers with the best K/BB rate this year (minimum 50 innings): Player Team K BB K/BB RoyHalladay Philadelphia 114 14 8.14 ZackGreinke Milwaukee 70 9 7.78 DanHaren L.A. Angels 87 15 5.80 ColeHamels Philadelphia 97 19 5.11 DavidPrice Tampa Bay 94 20 4.70 CliffLee Philadelphia 111 24 4.63 JustinVerlander Detroit 105 26 4.04 BartoloColon N.Y. Yankees 72 18 4.00 JeffKarstens Pittsburgh 47 12 3.92 JoshTomlin Cleveland 46 12 3.83 4. Cubs OF KosukeFukudome was sliding out of the a regular job last season, but is bouncing back this year and not just because of TylerColvins struggles. Fukudome has a .409 on-base percentage (and .828 OPS) which, in its own right, should be enough to hold down a regular spot in any lineup. Fukudome also makes a lot of contact; hes one of 28 players in baseball to have fewer than 5.0% swinging strikes this season. White Sox LF JuanPierre has the lowest swinging strike rate, just 1.9%. 5. Nationals 2B DannyEspinosa may never hit for a high average, though his .254 BABIP is likely to improve, but he does bring other things to the table, including 12 home runs and 41 RBI, which rank third among second basemen. Espinosa has decent plate discipline, but tends to have poor contact rates, which would seem to be more of an indication of a hole in his swing, one that will be exploited, particularly by good major league pitchers. 6. Braves RF JasonHeyward returned to the lineup Wednesday, after missing more than three weeks with a shoulder problem. Heyward hasnt been able to duplicate his rookie season success As a rookie, Heyward did have some good fortune, including a .335 BABIP and 16.8% home run/fly ball rate. This season, while presumably playing at least a little bit with the shoulder injury that ultimately sidelined him, Heyward has a .238 BABIP, though his home run/fly ball rate remains an exceptional 18.9%. 7. Cardinals LF MattHolliday is also back in the lineup, which is good for the Cardinals since hes one of seven players, with a minimum of 100 plate appearances, to have an OPS over 1.000 this season. When Oakland traded Holliday to St. Louis in July, 2009, they received BrettWallace, who went to Toronto before settling in Houston and the 24-year-old is having a decent season, hitting .316 with little power, as the Astros first baseman. Also in the deal: RHP ClaytonMortensen, who has performed well (2-3, 3.26 ERA, 1.23 WHIP) splitting time between the Rockies rotation and bullpen, and OF ShanePeterson. 8. Rangers LHP C.J.Wilson struck out 10 Yankees Thursday, the fifth time this season that he had a double-digit strikeout game, after recording two all of last year and Wilson has effectively improved across the board from last year, which was already pretty good in his first year as a starter. 9. Minnesotas TsuyoshiNishioka returned to the lineup, more than two months after breaking his leg, and played shortstop for the Twins, with AlexiCasilla handling second base. It probably speaks to the quality of Minnesotas lineup (with no Mauer and no Morneau), but Nishioka did hit third on Thursday, so there are obviously expectations that hes going to be able to produce offensively. The good news for the improving Twins is that Mauer has been activated off the DL and is expected to play Friday. 10. MUNICH, Germany -- Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone rejected accusations of bribery as he went on trial Thursday in a case that could threaten his grip on the sport, telling a Munich court that he was blackmailed by a German banker who received a disputed $44 million payment. wholesale jerseys . Ecclestone said at the beginning of a four-hour personal statement read out in German by his lawyers that he was "grateful" to be able to give his side of the story -- though he told judges that he would answer questions from the Munich state court through his lawyers, rather than personally. The 83-year-old Ecclestone is charged with bribery and incitement to breach of trust, and could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted. The charges involve a $44 million payment to banker Gerhard Gribkowsky, who is serving an 8 1/2-year sentence for taking the money. Ecclestone appeared in court in a dark three-piece suit and followed the proceedings closely with help from an interpreter whispering into his ear. Prosecutors allege the payment was meant to facilitate the sale of Munich-based bank Bayern LBs stake in Formula One to a buyer of Ecclestones liking. Gribkowsky was in charge of selling that 47 per cent stake in F1 in 2005. Ecclestone testified during Gribkowskys trial in 2011 and Gribkowsky is expected to be the main witness during Ecclestones trial, which is scheduled to last until Sept. 16. Gribkowsky was found guilty of corruption, tax evasion and breach of trust in a trial led by the same judge who is hearing Ecclestones case, Peter Noll. The defence made clear that it will attack Gribkowskys credibility, and Ecclestone said in his statement that the banker didnt tell the truth. In Thursdays statement, Ecclestone reiterated testimony he gave at Gribkowskys trial that he gave the banker the money because he was "blackmailed" and worried Gribkowsky would falsely accuse of him of being in charge of a trust fund set up for the Formula One bosss former wife and their children -- possibly incurring a huge British tax bill. Ecclestone said that "from todays point of view, it was not a rational decision" to pay Gribkowsky. "I saw my lifes work in danger" if Gribkowsky went to the British tax authorities, he said, adding that he wouldnt have been able to pay the resulting bill. Ecclestone said he had turned over his entire stake in Formula One to his then-wife, Slavica, and their two daughters in 1997 following a series of operations and a health scare that left him worried his wife would face a 40 per cent inheritance tax. He said he ran the day-to-day business of Formula One but hasnt owned any stake in the lucrative series since 1997. Ecclestones lawyers also insisted anew that their client is innocent, saying in a written statement that "the alleged bribe has not occurred." They argued that the indictment is based on statements by Gribkowsky that are "incorrect, misleading and incoherent" and said they would produce new documents at the trial to dispute Gribkowskys assertions. Ecclestone said he thought Gribkowsky wanted out of banking and had been interested in founding his own Formula One team. Ecclestone has stepped down temporarily as a director of F1s holding company pending the outcome of the trial, though he continues to manage the sports commercial operations on behalf of investment fund CVC Capital Partners, which has a controlling stake in the web of companies which run the commercial side of the sport. Ecclestone, who built his powerbase in F1 starting in the 1970s, likely would be unable to remain in charge if convicted -- even if he avoids a prison sentence. The trial will continue May 2. jerseys from china . The Michigan lineman faces three assault charges stemming from an incident in December, according to a report from ESPN. Still, Walt Weiss did promise his platoon outfielder this much: "Hell be in there tomorrow." Thats good enough for Blackmon. He tied a team record with six hits and drove in five runs, helping the Colorado Rockies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 12-2 in their home opener Friday. Blackmon had three doubles, a two-run homer and scored four times. The only other Rockies player with six hits in a game was AndresGalarraga against Houston on July 3, 1995. "When you get an opportunity to play, its really nice to come up and contribute," said Blackmon, whos sporting a bushy beard. Blackmon acknowledged hes never had that many hits in a game -- on any level. "Pretty amazing," he said. CarlosGonzalez certainly thought so. "I dont think I ever hit 6 for 6 in my life," Gonzalez said. "Im happy for him. Hes proving to everybody he deserves to be in the big leagues and every day in the lineup." And yet Weiss plan is to keep platooning Blackmon with DrewStubbs and CoreyDickerson. Unless, of course, Blackmon has more days like this. Thanks to his big afternoon, Blackmon is hitting .563 (9 for 16). "He had a pretty good day," Weiss said. Same goes for Gonzalez, who added a two-run triple and a two-run homer off the facing of the third deck as the Rockies improved to 13-9 in home openers. That was more than enough for JuanNicasio (1-0), who surrendered one run and four hits in seven efficient innings. His only mistake was a slider that MarkTrumbo hit for a solo homer in the fifth. "He pitched well," PaulGoldschmidt said. "He used his fastball a lot and he was getting ahead right there. He was locating it, moving it in and out. He was doing a good job. They made some good plays out there and we werent able to get enough going." With the loss, the Diamondbacks fell to 1-6, tying their worst start in franchise history. "Games over now. You just go out tomorrow and play as hard as you can, and thats what the guyss will do," Goldschmidt said. nfl jerseys china. "We just havent played well enough." Goldschmidt did extend his hitting streak to 26 games dating to last season with an RBI single in the eighth, Its the second-longest streak in club history, four behind the mark LuisGonzalez set from April 11 to May 18, 1999. RandallDelgado (0-1) gave up six runs and 10 hits in four innings. Colorado finished with 17 hits, with Blackmon leading from the leadoff spot. A triple shy of the cycle, he lined the ball into the left-field corner in the eighth, then pulled up at second when Trumbo quickly corralled the ball. He was tempted to go, though. "I didnt even know where it went when I hit it," Blackmon said. "You know you had a good day when you hit a ball and it ends up two inches inside the line." MichaelCuddyer kept his hot streak going, finishing with three hits. The reigning NL batting champion has multiple hits in four of his first five games. Arizona third baseman MartinPrado left in the sixth after cutting his left index finger tagging out Blackmon on a steal attempt. He said Blackmons spike caught the finger sticking out of his glove. "It was bleeding a lot," Prado said. "Fortunately for me, it just took a little skin off." As a motivator, the Rockies have stenciled the numbers one through 100 on panels above the lockers in the clubhouse. With each win, that panel is filled in with purple. Win No. 2 was secured with Blackmons help. He even received a standing ovation in his last plate appearance. "I missed it," Blackmon said. "But I received a lot of applause when I went out to (the outfield). It was really nice." NOTES: Arizona 2B AaronHill finished 2 for 4 and is hitting .370 against Colorado in his career. Its one of the highest marks among active players. ... RHP BrandonMcCarthy (0-0) will start Saturday for the Diamondbacks against Colorado and LHP JorgeDeLaRosa (0-1). ... Killarney, Ireland (Sports Network) - JeevMilkhaSingh fired an eight-under 63 on Thursday to take the first-round lead of the Irish Open at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club. cheap jerseys . Alexandre Kaleka posted a six-under 65 and is alone in second place, which was one stroke better than former U.S. Open champion MichaelCampbell, Christian Nilsson and Marcel Siem. Now that Northern Ireland has become golfs new powerhouse, it was somewhat shocking that none of its three major champions in the last two seasons threatened the top of the leaderboard. British Open champion DarrenClarke, playing for the first time since his major breakthrough at Royal St. Georges, shot a two-under 69 and is tied for 27th. Walking up the 18th fairway, Clarke was greeted much like he was a few Sundays prior. "I felt like I was winning a tournament - its been very special," said Clarke. "I didnt come here to make up the numbers. I hit a lot of good shots and had lots of chances, but didnt quite have the speed of the greens." U.S. Open winner RoryMcIlroy, an eight-shot victor at Congressional last month, was four-under par through 10 holes, but a bogey at 11 and a disastrous double at the last sent him to a one-under 71. The final member of the Northern Ireland major trio, 2010 U.S. Open champion GraemeMcDowell, battled some back issues en route to a one-over-par 72. "It generally loosens out, but didnt really this morning and I got a little stuck with a few irons shots," said McDowell. "Its not alarm bells, just a little bit of stiffness. I might have a couple of medicinal pints tonight just to loosen the back." Before this Northern Irish surge, PadraigHarrington led the Irish charge at majors. He won three in two years from 2007-08 and was the runner-up at this championship last year, but fell all the way down to 64th in the world rankings after some tough years. The struggles continued on Thursday. Harrington only managed a two-over 73 and shares 114th place. "Golf is a strange game," said Harrington, a Dublin native. "At one-under (after 10), I was thinking four-under and it turned around very quickly." Things never turned sour for Singh on Thursday. He broke into red figures with a birdie at the fourth, but his play at the par-five seventh jumped him up the leaderboard in a hurry. Singh drained a 30- foot eagle putt, then birdied No. 8 to reach four-under par for the championship. Singh, who shared sixth last week at the Nordea Masters, continued his excellent form right after the turn. He birdied the 10th and 11th holes, then holed out from a bunker at the par-four 12th to keep his consecutive birdie streak alive at three. It ended with a par at the 13th, but he tapped in a short birdie putt at the 14th to get to eight-under par. Singh had a chance at 59 with four birdies in his last four holes and the dream of golfs immortality crept into his head. "I dont know whether it was a good thing or a bad thing, but 59 did cross my mind," said Singh, a three-time European Tour winner. Singh, who battled wrist and back injuries in recent years, couldnt get the birdies he needed and in fact, parred his last four, but it was enough to get the first-round lead. "I hit a lot of good shots, plus, I think the putting was amazing today," Singh said in a televised interview. "I just holed everything. I said if I can birdie the last four holes, Ive got a chance for 59. I had a chance, I didnt do it, but Im still happy with eight-under." Defending champion RossFisher headlines a group tied for sixth place at four- under 67. NOTES: Colm Moriarty leads the Irish contingent as he is part of the group that shares sixth...Eighty-nine of the 150 starters on Thursday shot even-par or better. cheap jerseys from china . The team says Paul is day to day and is questionable for Mondays game against New Jersey. Paul is averaging 18.0 points, 8.4 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 37.3 minutes in nine games for the Clippers, who beat Miami and the Lakers in their last two games.TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Lightning are disappointed, though not discouraged. Despite being swept in the first round of the NHL playoffs, the young team led by StevenStamkos has plenty of reasons to feel encouraged about the future. One year after struggling to the 28th-best record in the league, the Lightning finished second in the Atlantic Division and posted the third-best mark in the Eastern Conference. The Montreal Canadiens eliminated them from the post-season in four games, but coach Jon Cooper said none of his players should hang their heads because the Lightning had a successful season. "Its been a transition year for us in an unbelievably positive way," said Cooper, whos completing his first full season behind the bench. "I dont want this series to be looked at as they were a failure," Cooper added. "Those guys got swept in the first round, but they had a heck of a year." Stamkos missed 45 games because of a broken right leg but still amassed 25 goals and 40 points in 37 games to help Tampa Bay return to the playoffs for the first time since 2011. The 24-year-old captain has scored more goals than any NHL player since the start of the 2009-10 season. His absence from early November to just before a late-season trade sent MartinSt.Louis to the New York Rangers created unexpected opportunities for several young players who helped the team stay afloat while Stamkos was out. Goaltender BenBishop set a franchise record with 37 victories before a left elbow injury sidelined him for the final week of the regular season and the playoffs. Rookie Ondrej Palate led the team with 59 points and another first-year player, TylerJohnson, set a club record for rookies with 24 goals. In all,, Tampa Bays rookies combined for 201 points, more than twice as many for first-year players from any other team. wholesale nfl jerseys. "Its been well documented what this team has gone through this year," Cooper said, adding that few people gave the Lightning much of a shot at making the playoffs when the season began. Stamkos said its important young players learn from their post-season experience. The Lightning dropped the first two games to the Canadiens at home and didnt feel they played their best hockey until the third period of Game 4 in Montreal on Tuesday night. "Everyones probably feeling a little embarrassed. But in the long run, you probably had to go through something like this," Stamkos said. "I think we will learn," the captain added, "that sacrifice, determination and work ethic is what wins at this time of year." RyanCallahan, the former Rangers captain obtained in the deal that sent an unhappy St. Louis to New York, agreed. "This means nothing if as a group (the Lightning) doesnt realize how hard the playoffs are and how consistent you have to be moving forward," Callahan said. "Its a waste if you dont learn from it." Eight rookies made their playoff debut in Game 1, while another key player -- goalie AndersLindback, standing in for Bishop -- entered the series with just 13 minutes of post-season experience. Six first-year players notched their first playoff points in the opener, won by the Canadiens 5-4 in overtime. The next step is returning next season and proving this years success wasnt a fluke. "The amount of youth that we have here is very promising," Stamkos said. "We want to be a perennial playoff team. This is a start." cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys ' ' ' |

INDIANAPOLIS - RobertMathis still remembers the first time he wandered into the Colts no-hit zone. Nike Free 5.0 Womens Online . As the fifth-round draft pick went through a routine practice in 2003, he wound up getting a little too close to PeytonManning on a pass rush. No, he didnt hit the franchise quarterback, but Indy coaches immediately scolded the rookie and reminded him of the potentially dire consequences if he made the same mistake again. "If you come within two yards of him, you might get cut," Mathis said with a smile this week. "Thats just the truth." Mathis wised up fast, which is why he is still hanging around Indianapolis (4-2) and wreaking havoc in opposing backfields. Since making that blunder, Mathis has seen and done just about everything in 11 NFL seasons. Hes won a Super Bowl, two AFC titles, been to five consecutive Pro Bowls, topped 100 career sacks and is now chasing the Colts franchise record for sacks, held by his old pal DwightFreeney. At age 32, he shares the NFL lead with 9 1/2 sacks, and he has proven to be every bit as effective as a standup linebacker as he was playing defensive end. This weekend, Mathis will finally get a chance to add one missing line to his resume sacking Manning. Though 14 players on Indys roster remain from the Manning era, only five went up against him in practice linebackers PatAngerer and KavellConner, safety AntoineBethea, defensive linemen Ricardo Matthews, FiliMoala and Mathis. But through the years, the protective blanket around Manning always existed. "If you did hit him, you might as well pack your bags and leave town," Angerer said. On Sunday night, when Manning returns to Indianapolis for the first time as the opponent, the Colts defence can finally line him up. Mathis and others have made it clear all week that they are not making this game personal. But when the Broncos (6-0) and Colts (4-2) meet in the NFLs most anticipated homecoming since BrettFavre showed up in Green Bay with the Vikings, Mathis plans to get down to the business of putting Manning on the ground. It wont be easy, and with Manning it never is. In 230 career games, Manning has been sacked just 257 times, an average of 17.9 per season. This year, Manning leads the league with 22 TD passes, a 128.8 passer rating, an offence that is on pace to shatter the NFLs single-season scoring record. Hes been sacked just five times despite playing behind an offensive line that includes a backup left tackle, a first-year centre and a right tackle who finished last weeks 35-19 victory at right guard. The biggest challenge this week might be avoiding Mathis. "If this was a scenario where all I had to do maybe was come back and wave and smile and kiss a few babies and sign a few autographs, itd be different," Manning said. "But somehow Ive got to figure out a way to stay away from Mathis and try to complete a few passes on (Vontae) Davis and Bethea and thats going to be tough because I think its a tough defence." Indys defence looks nothing like the one Manning left behind. The Colts have ditched their trademark 4-3 look for the trendy hybrid 3-4, cut ties with defensive captain GaryBrackett and let Freeney walk away in free agency. Over the past two seasons, Indy has added five new starters in the front seven, moved Mathis and replaced three of the four starters in the secondary. Manning has spent most of the week working overtime to get familiar with all the new faces and philosophies. But the ex-teammates know what to expect from their former quarterback. "Its going to be a chess match, of course. He looks for his mismatches just like any other quarterback does," Bethea said. "Its going to be tough. He might get us a few times, we might get him a few times, but for the most part, like I continue to say, we got to go out there and play ball. When we get chances to make plays, we got to make our plays." Especially Mathis, who has the ability to change games with big, turnover-causing sacks. Manning has seen it before, hes just never been the target since that practice in 2003. Until now. "Somebody asked me earlier, is it the same as playing against Eli, and I said I guarantee RobertMathis hits a heck of a lot harder than Eli does," Manning said. "From that standpoint, its definitely different. All I know is kind of what I have to do right now is great ready for a good defence. Boy, theyre impressive to watch on film. Mathis, Robert is having a great year. Its really a factor." Nike Free TR Fit Sale . JOHNS, N. Nike Free 3.0 V2 Womens UK .S. Cellular Field on Saturday night, hell not only be returning to where his career began. LONDON -- Nicolas Anelka was banned for five games by the English Football Association on Thursday and immediately suspended by West Bromwich Albion for a racially aggravated goal celebration. The French striker performed the gesture, which is known in his homeland as a "quenelle" and has been described as an "inverted Nazi salute," during a Premier League match in December. Although an FA disciplinary panel backed Anelkas insistence that he was not being intentionally anti-Semitic, performing the gesture was still found to be racist and abusive. Anelka, who appeared at the hearing this week, received the minimum five-game ban for racism offences, was also fined 80,000 pounds ($133,000) and ordered to complete an education course. Anelka can appeal, and he must decide within seven days of receiving the panels written reasons. But West Brom responded to the verdict by suspending him while the central England club conducts an internal investigation and awaits the conclusion of the FA process. "The club acknowledges that the FA panel did not find that Nicolas Anelka is an anti-Semite or that he intended to express or promote anti-Semitism by his use of the quenelle," West Brom said in a statement. "However, the club cannot ignore the offence that his actions have caused, particularly to the Jewish community, nor the potential damage to the clubs reputation." The panel found Anelka guilty of two charges -- that the gesture "was abusive and/or indecent and/or insulting and/or improper," and it was racially offensive. "The misconduct was an aggravated breach ... in that it included a reference to ethnic origin and/or race and/or religion or belief," the FA verdict said. Anelkas legal team said he was "pleased" to be cleared of anti-Semitism. "He is now waiting to receive the commissions full reasons for their decision before considering whether or not to appeal," the statement said. Aneelka performed the quenelle as he celebrated scoring in West Broms 3-3 draw with West Ham on Dec. Nike Free 3.0 Mens sale. 28. The gesture involves pointing one straightened arm downward while touching the shoulder with the opposite hand. It was popularized by French comedian Dieudonne MBala MBala, who has been convicted multiple times for inciting racial hatred or anti-Semitism. The Community Security Trust, which protects British Jews, said Anelka has introduced an "ugly anti-Semitic gesture into British football." "We acknowledge Anelkas denial of anti-Semitic intent, but his action was clear and the FAs zero tolerance approach to racism meant there could be no other outcome," CST chief executive David Delew said. "This verdict sends a strong message to Jewish players and supporters at all levels of the game that the FA will act against anti-Semitic acts if they are reported." The European Jewish Congress expressed concern that Anelka was yet to express any regret over the case. "Even if the FA is not convinced that the players intent at the time was anti-Semitic, he surely knows now the origins of the quenelle and the hurt and pain it caused the Jewish community, yet we are still waiting for an apology," EJC President Dr Moshe Kantor said. "Anelkas silence speaks volumes." The organization hopes the FA will use the case to help clamp down on abuse against Jews. "Anti-Semitism remains the fastest growing hate in football, on the field and in the stadiums, and we hope that this episode will be used positively to once and for all stamp out hatred for Jews in football," Kantor said. Anelka avoided the heaviest racism ban imposed recently by the FA, eight games for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez in 2011 for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra. Chelsea captain John Terry received a four-match ban the following year, before the minimum five-game racism ban was introduced in England. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys ' ' ' |
