Fight Hunger Bowl - BYU vs Washington (December 27th, 9:30)Steve Sarkisian is out as Huskies coach after taking over the USC Trojans program but Washington arguably upgraded landing Chris Petersen.� He wont be on the sidelines but hell have eyes on this tilt which sees two top-15 offences do battle at AT&T Park in San Francisco.� QB Keith Price and RB Bishop Sankey of Washington are two key players to watch in this one. 22. Music City Bowl - Ole Miss vs Georgia Tech (December 30th, 3:15)Ole Miss has won their last five bowl games but enter this one on a two-game losing streak.� They failed to score 10 points in both of those losses and may have a tough time putting up points against the Yellow Jackets.� Georgia Tech will run the ball to eat clock using the triple-option before sending out the nations 21st ranked defence.� QB Bo Wallace will need to have a strong performance for Ole Miss to make it six straight bowl wins. 23. BBVA Compass Bowl - Houston vs Vanderbilt (January 4th, 1:00, TSN2)HC James Franklin has Vandy trending in the right direction with 17 wins in the last two seasons.� To put how big of an accomplishment that is into perspective, its the first time ever the program is heading to a bowl game for a third straight year.� They won their final four games, while Houston lost three of four4 heading into bowl season.� The Cougars will lean on their 16th ranked defense to keep this one close. 24. Little Caesars Pizza Bowl - Bowling Green vs Pittsburgh (December 26th, 6:00)Bowling Green won the MAC title upending Jordan Lynch and the Huskies in the title game at Ford Field, and now they find themselves back in Detroit.� They average 14.8 points allowed per game which is fifth-best in the FBS.� Pitt boasts Senior Aaron Donald who won defensive player of the year.� 26. New Mexico Bowl - Washington State vs Colorado State (December 21st, 2:00 on TSN2 and TSN1050) Colorado State will go as far as RB Kapri Bibbs takes them.� Hes a high end talent that scored 28 TDs this season.� Cougars HC Mike Leach loves to pass the ball which is good and bad - fun to watch, but QB Connor Halliday threw 21 interceptions, which was worst in the FBS.� This game should be full of big plays, points, and mistakes. 27. GoDaddy Bowl - Arkansas State vs Ball State (January 3rd, 9:00)You have to feel bad for juniors on Arkansas State - when they return for their fourth year next season theyll have a fourth head coach after Bryan Harsin accepted the Boise State gig.� That said; its their third straight appearance in this bowl and got the bid after finishing as co-Sun Belt champs.� Ball State QB Keith Wenning will top 4,000 yards passing in this one and had an impressive 34:6 TD/INT ratio. 28. Autozone Liberty Bowl - Rice vs Mississippi State (December 31st, 4:00)The Mississippi State Bulldogs won their final two games in overtime to get six wins and become bowl eligible.� Six wins may not be overly impressive, but all six of the Bulldogs losses came against Top 25 ranked teams (Oklahoma State, Auburn, LSU, South Carolina, Texas A&M and Alabama).� Rice won 10 games and took home their first outright conference title since 1957. 29. But the Bengals beat Baltimore 34-17, the Patriots beat Buffalo 34-20 and the Colts wound up with the No. 4 playoff seed. They will host Kansas City on Saturday afternoon. Coach Chuck Pagano promised his team would not watch the scoreboard, and it was clear they didnt pay attention until the game ended. Instead, the Colts were focused on keeping their momentum. "They always talk about December being the second most important month in football and we went out and went 4-1," Pagano said before the late afternoon results were in. "I have no idea, unless you guys have any updates, but we know we have a home game. So well wait to see what happens." Indy (11-5) is now playing its best football of the year. After alternating wins and losses for six straight weeks, the Colts rebounded with three straight routs. Luck was 26 of 37 for 282 yards, shattering Cam�Newtons record for yards passing (7,920) in a players first two seasons and becoming the first player in league history to top 8,000 yards during that span. It represents a remarkable shopping spree, one that should jolt life into both Toronto FC while further adding lustre to Major League Soccer itself. Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment is shelling out millions to turn what has been the MLS doormat for seven years into a world force. A club official rejected reports that the combined bill for Defoe and Bradley is C$100 million including wages and transfer fees, but the real number probably isnt that far south. Like any other sport, the big boys of soccer come with big price tags. And MLS teams may have to overpay to overcome European snobbery. For a team yet to make the MLS playoffs, Toronto ownership is thinking big -- well beyond mere post-season play, according to Bezbatchenko. "We want to be internationally recognized as a top club," he said after welcoming De Rosario back at a packed news conference at BMO Field "We want to be competing internationally ... Theres a certain type of player you need to achieve those (goals)." Defoe, 31, and Bradley, 26, will do nicely. Up until now, the only thing world-class about Toronto FC has been its training centre -- a C$20-million-plus complex that probably rivals all but the top clubs in Europe. MLSE president and CEO Tim Leiweke, who helped bring David Beckham to MLS, is not one for half-measures and, with the backing of the MLSE board, has opened up the vault for Bezbatchenko and manager Ryan Nelsen. "In all honesty it wasnt a really hard sell when you just tell them where were going to go," Nelsen said in describing his sales job to De Rosario. He will undoubtedly earn less in Toronto, but said his return to Toronto is about more than money. "For me right now its about winning ... You cant put a price on that," he said. Its a comment that speaks volumes about todays De Rosario, who once was all about the numbers on his paycheque. Remember the 2010 goal celebration that saw him pretend to sign a cheque, by way of showcasing his financial discontent in Toronto. Once seemingly more concerned about the De Rosario brand than anything else, the veteran midfielder has changed his stripes in recent years. With the national team, he has worn the captains armband and, at a Canada training camp in Arizona in early 2013, went out of his way to connect with younger players. The new galaxy of TFC stars will probably have to build bridges with their lesser-paid teammates. Fullback Ryan Richter, for example, made US$34,125 last season while several others made US$46,500. MLS is a league of have- and have-nots. Most Toronto players will be more acquainted with a Metropass than a Porsche. Jordan Hamilton isnt complaining, however. Toronto FC also announced the signing of the 17-year-old academy product Thursday. "A dream, come true," said the young forward. A dream that may include training next to Defoe. "To be practising alongside Defoe, what more could a 17-year-old ask for," Hamilton said with amazement. While MLSE is spending big, Nelsen says the teams salary cap is actually in better shape that the bottom line bloated with bad contracts that he inherited last season. As he noted, designated players may cost millions but their salary cap hit is US$390,000 The arrival of Defoe and Bradley as designated players, along with Gilberto and incumbent midfielder Matias Laba means that Toronto has four DPs -- one over the limit. Laba is the odd man out, with Nelsen only saying at this stage that there are contingency plans. As Nelsen points out, the MLSE board has dug deep into its pockets because it believes this is smart spending. In the short term, improvements are needed to retain and build on the 14,600 season-ticket base. With an average attendance of 18,131, the franchise ranked 10th in the league. MLSE will have looked longingly at Seattles league-leading average of 44,038. But MLSE allso wants to overhaul and expand BMO Field, likely pouring in C$100 million-plus to add a roof and refit the bare-bones stadium to allow for football and other events. For the league, its compelling evidence that the North American league is a legitimate soccer destination. "We want to be leading the way," Bezbatchenko said. "The transformation this club has undergone the past three months is indicative of where were headed and what we want to do with player signings," he continued. "We want to be top-class in the league, in every way."
