INDIAN WELLS, Calif. Chris Conte Jersey . - Novak Djokovic beat John Isner 7-5, 6-7 (2), 6-1 on Saturday to reach the final of the BNP Paribas Open, where hell resume his longtime rivalry with Roger Federer. "Its always tense. Its always emotional. Its always close," Djokovic said of the looming match up. "I look forward to it." Federer had a much easier time in the semifinals, beating Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine 6-3, 6-1 and putting himself in position to win a fifth career title at Indian Wells. Djokovic is a two-time winner here. Federer leads their rivalry 17-15, having beaten Djokovic two weeks ago in the semifinals at Dubai. Before that, Djokovic had won three straight times over the Swiss star. Second-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska will play Flavia Pennetta in the womens final Sunday before the mens title is decided. Djokovic struggled with the big-serving Isner, who beat him here in the semis two years ago before losing to Federer in the final. "With that serve, obviously, he can win against anybody on a good day," Djokovic said. "I thought I returned really well today and allowed myself to have a bunch of opportunities on his service games." Djokovic had a chance to win in two sets, breaking Isner to go up 5-4 and then again at 6-5. But the American broke back at love to level at 6-6, then and then dominated in the tiebreaker. Isner won four straight points and served his sixth ace to win it 7-2 and force the decisive third set. "When you get to the tiebreaker with John Isner, whoever you are, youre not a favourite," Djokovic said. "I just tried to hang in there, stay mentally tough when I lost the second set, and played a great third." Djokovic broke Isner for a 3-1 lead in the third. Djokovic survived a break point in the next game and held for a 4-1 lead. Isner called for the trainer a second time in the match to work on an area above his left knee before he got broken to trail 5-1, missing two straight forehands. Djokovic came up with his own big serve on match point that Isner couldnt return. "It prevented me from being able to go after my serve like I wanted to, but thats not the reason I lost," Isner said about having tightness in his knee. "I am disappointed, but at the same time, I had a good week here." Isner had eight aces to Djokovics seven, and the American managed 31 winners, just one more than Djokovic. While Djokovic had to sweat out his victory, Federer was coolly efficient on the hot day in the desert, firing seven aces and connecting on 72 per cent of his first serves in the match that lasted barely an hour. "Having the fire and wanting to win every single match and in the practice trying to improve as much as you can, Ive got the good balance right now, so its very encouraging," Federer said. Federer never faced a break point on his serve while breaking Dolgopolov four times, including a seven-deuce game to go up 4-1 in the second set. Dolgopolov had a chance to win that game four times, but each time his unforced error brought it back to deuce. Federer is aiming to make Indian Wells his second title of the year. Hes coming off a victory two weeks ago at Dubai, and has a 19-2 match record this year. He won titles here from 2004-06 and again in 2012. A year ago at Indian Wells, Federer injured his back during a match and took nearly a month to feel better. After Wimbledon, he re-injured his back and found himself questioning everything, leading to an uneven year for the sports once dominant player. Back here again, Federer feels like a new man. "Im just playing more freely overall and with more confidence because I can get to more balls without thinking," he said. "I can wake up without feeling sore. I can go to bed not feeling like I hope I feel better tomorrow. I dont have these thoughts going through my mind and Im not worried every single minute of the day." Martellus Bennett Authentic . The Vikings announced Saturday they downgraded Peterson from doubtful on the original injury report to out against Detroit Sunday, when the Vikings and Lions will play the last game at the Metrodome. Santonio Holmes Jersey . Ausmus says he realized his words were insensitive and in poor taste as soon as they left his mouth. The first-year manager was asked after Detroits 2-1 loss to Kansas City on Wednesday how his mood is when he heads home from the ballpark these days. This past Saturday at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in upstate New York, 20 year old Kevin Ward Jr. was killed after he was struck on the track by NASCAR star Tony Stewarts car. During the race, Wards car was spun out by Stewart. Ward then unbuckled, climbed out of his car and walked onto the track to express his displeasure to Stewart. At that point, he was struck by Stewarts car and killed. "I want to make it very clear: there are no criminal charges pending at this time" said Ontario County Sheriff Philp Povero after the incident. While that may be the case, this is far from over. Stewart faces the spectre of criminal charges and civil liability. For Stewart, this is going to be a long road. Criminal Charges On the criminal side, expect the District Attorney to take a very close look to determine whether Stewart committed a crime. The most likely charge that would be considered is second degree manslaughter. Also called involuntary manslaughter, this occurs when a person "recklessly" causes the death of another person. Reckless acts are generally deemed less serious or blameworthy than intentional acts. Second degree manslaughter can be distinguished from first degree manslaughter. With respect to the latter charge, a defendant may not have intended to kill the victim, but did intend to seriously physically injure the person and death resulted. At this point, there is insufficient evidence to determine whether criminal charges are appropriate. The evidence will be reviewed, including the video of the incident, witness statements and any data available from Stewarts car. Some witnesses have said that Stewart hit his throttle as he approached Ward. When you hit the throttle, the back end of the car kicks out. One theory is that Stewart may have hit the throttle to scare Ward. If Stewart intended to intimidate Ward by kicking his car out, or was otherwise reckless, he could be charged with manslaughter. Jordan Mills Jersey. Should it be determined that Stewart intended to kill Ward, then the charge could be elevated to murder or manslaughter in the first degree. However, intent in this case would be very difficult to ascertain, and accordingly, these charges seem unlikely to materialize. So the key question for the DA is this: did Stewart intentionally hit his throttle to merely put a scare in Ward? If so, Stewart is suddenly responsible for the death of Ward in the likely form of Man 2. Civil Lawsuit Apart from criminal charges, Stewart may also face a wrongful death civil lawsuit (for money) from Wards family. If a person is killed as a result of the negligence or misconduct of another person, the surviving members may sue for "wrongful death". While it is early and we dont have all the information, it would not be a surprise to see Wards family sue Stewart. It is not unusual for families to seek a certain level of accountability by way of a civil suit. The family may also argue that Stewart has a reputation for having a bad temper, and this incident is consistent with his temperament. Stewart would argue that Ward should not have exited his vehicle. By doing so, he put himself in harms way. As well, Stewart may say that he tried to avoid Ward rather than scare him. Finally, Ward was wearing black on a part of the track that was not well lit. As a result, Stewart may say he didnt see Ward until it was too late. The investigation is still at an early stage and it is premature to declare that Stewart is responsible for Wards death. We should allow the investigation to run its course, at which point a clearer determination can be made as to liability. ' ' '

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. A.Q. Shipley Jersey . -- Milos Raonic and Aleksandra Wozniak continued successful injury comebacks as each advanced into the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open on Monday to next face reigning Grand Slam champions. Tenth-seeded Raonic, playing for the first time in more than a month after suffering ankle ligament damage, fired a modest 10 aces in a 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Colombian Alejandro Falla with a break per set providing the winning margin. "Im playing well this week, better with each match," said the 11th-ranked Thornhill, Ont., native. "Im proud to be back on court again. Im happy to be back and really happy to be playing so well, so quickly." Raonic lined up a match against Wimbledon champion Andy Murray, who struggled to beat Czech Jiri Vesely 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-4. Raonic owns a 2-1 lead in that series, winning their last in a 2012 Tokyo semifinal. "I have got to go out there and play well, thats the main thing to focus on," said Raonic. "I have to really take care of my serve, and try to sort of make the most of the situations as they occur. "Andys in a situation where he didnt play for a big chunk of time (back surgery) and Im in mine. I have to really buckle down and focus on myself and make sure I do my things well, and then change a few things that I may need to facing him." Wozniak is making quick progress after a shoulder injury with a 6-1, 6-7 (3-7), 6-0 defeat of Russias Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. The Blainville, Que., native set herself up for a huge test in the next round. She will face world No. 2, top seed and Australian Open champion Li Na after the two-time Grand Slam winner beat Czech Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 6-4. This event marks the first time since late 2012, when her shoulder problems began, that the No. 241-ranked Wozniak has gone past the second round at a WTA-level tournament. Wozniak was pleased to advance after fighting and losing a second-set tiebreak but dominating in the final set to sweep to victory. "I"ve had a tough year and a half with my shoulder," she said. "It was a good match for me today. Russians are always tough, I had to being my A game today." Wozniak claimed victory in just under two hours, committing 10 double-faults in the match but breaking on nine of 13 chances. Wozniak credited her French coach Nathalie Tauziat with helping her to the victory. "She gave me encouragement and a boost for the third set," Wozniak said. "I was playing a little too far back on the court in the second. My balls were not as deep as in the first. "In the third, I tried to step up more, take the ball early. I didnt want to let her get back into it like I did in the second set." Wozniak, who will move into the 180s on ranking according to WTA estimates, is pleased with her comeback, which has bloomed this week in the desert. "Its really good, Im happy, Im progressing with every match, step by step," she said. "Im finding that aggressive way I used to play. It gives me confidence to start finding my game like before." Wozniak will next play Li for the fourth time, standing 1-2 in the series. "Its a privilege to play her," Wozniak said. "Ill have to play the way I know I can, like Ive played this week. She loves to dictate from the first ball. Ill stay on her and try to have a good match. "I wont be any more nervous than usual. I know how to handle these situations because Ive been in them before. It will be important to start from the first point and stay with her in the rallies." Andrew Luck Indianapolis Colts . DALLAS -- Former Dallas Cowboys player JoshBrent was sentenced Friday to 180 days in jail and 10 years of probation for a drunken car crash that killed his friend and teammate, JerryBrown. Mike Ditka Jersey On Sale . Brent was convicted Wednesday of intoxication manslaughter for the December 2012 crash on a suburban Dallas highway that killed Brown, who was a passenger in Brents car. Brent could have been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison. Brent, a Cowboys defensive tackle, and Brown, a linebacker on the practice squad, also played together at the University of Illinois and were close friends. They were headed home from a night of partying with Dallas teammates when Brent lost control of his Mercedes and crashed. Officers who arrived on scene saw Brent trying to pull Browns body from the wreckage. Blood tests pegged Brents blood alcohol content at 0.18 per cent, which is more than twice the states legal limit to drive of 0.08 per cent. Prosecutors told jurors that the burly, 320-pound lineman had as many as 17 drinks on the night of the crash. One of Brents lawyers, George Milner, argued that Brent wasnt drunk and was only "guilty of being stupid behind the wheel of a car." He contended that Brent couldnt have had nearly as much to drink as prosecutors said he had, and that the police blood tests were flawed. Brents lawyers pushed their case for probation Thursday, calling a Dallas County official who testified that the county currently has 34 intoxication manslaughter cases that resulted in probation. Kevin Brooks, one of Brents lawyers, said the one-time defensive tackle would be easy to monitor because of "who he is and who he was." Brent retired from football last year. Browns mother, Stacey Jackson, has also publicly forgiven Brent. When asked Thursday if she holds Brent responsible for her sons death, she said: "Hes still responsible, but you cant go on in life holding a grudge. We all make mistakes." Prosecutors pushed for prison time for Brent, who went to trial only weeks after another Texas intoxication manslaughter case sparked widespread public outrage. In that case, a defence expert argued that the defendant, a 17-year-old boy who caused a drunken crash that killed four people, deserved leniency because his parents coddled him into a sense of irresponsibility -- a condition the expert termed "affluenza." The teen wasnt given prison time. On Thursday, prosecutor Rebecca Dodds emphasized Brents 2009 drunken driving arrest in Illinois to press the states argument that he deserves prison time. In that case, he served 30 days in jail after pleading guilty to a misdemeanour charge. "Probation doesnt work for JoshBrent," prosecutor Rebecca Dodds told the jury during closing statements in the punishment phase. Brent played in all 12 games for the Cowboys in 2012 before the crash. Brown made the practice squad that season. Mike Singletary Authentic . Teague one handed three pointerTheres something to be said about having the nerve to go up and take a shot from downtown late in a close playoff game, but what is there really to say when that shot is one handed? Teague answers that question with a simple Jordan like shrug of the shoulders. Brian De La Puente Authentic. -- RyanMallett played solidly in his first chance at quarterback for the New England Patriots.TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Life off the field may be complicated for Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston and the second-ranked Seminoles, but things are simple between the lines. Winston threw for 225 yards and four touchdowns as Florida State broke a school record for points in a game in an 80-14 victory against Idaho Saturday. An ongoing sexual assault investigation of the Heisman Trophy candidate continues to cast a shadow over the program while the team focuses on football. State attorney Willie Meggs told The Associated Press on Saturday it is unlikely that a final decision will be made before Thanksgiving on whether to charge the quarterback. Patricia Carroll, the lawyer of the accuser, claims Winston raped the victim on Dec. 7, 2012. Winstons lawyer Tim Jansen said the sex between the two was consensual. "The football field is a sanctuary to me," Winston said. "And its like that for all of our teammates. When all of us are on the field everything is just zoned out. We focus." Florida State (11-0), second in the BCS standings, is two wins away from a likely berth in the BCS championship game with the regular-season finale at Florida next week. This is the first 11-0 start for the program since the 1999 national championship season and the first time going undefeated at home since 2000. The Gators (4-7) lost 26-20 to Georgia Southern on Saturday and will be heavy underdogs next week. Florida State should go into the Atlantic Coast Conference championship without a loss and be favoured again. A trip to Pasadena for the title game is nearly within its grasp. Winston, a Heisman Trophy front-runner, played just one series in the second half. "Its not right for the game," Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said when asked about getting Winston better stats with more playing time. "People know he played well. ... He played exceptionally well and hes on a great team. "To me, stats arent the key for awards. Its how well you play, how you dominate your opponent and what you do. Thats my opinion. People who look at numbers dont really know the player." The Seminoles have dominated throughout the season, but 66 points was the largest margin of victory since a 69-3 win against Murray State in the 2012 season opener. They topped the 77 points the Seminoles scored in 1995 against North Carolina State in 1995 to remain unbbeaten. Stephen Paea Jersey On Sale. . The 607 points scored by Florida State in 2013 broke the ACC single-season record set by the Seminoles last season. The 11 consecutive games of 40 points or more ties Texas 2005 single-season FBS record. Fisher, who criticized his teams focus early, admitted he was being picky, "but thats the elite standard we want to be held to." Devonta Freeman opened up the scoring with a 60-yard run on their seventh offensive snap of the game. That was the beginning of the punishing day for a run game that posted 336 yards rushing. He had 129 yards on 11 carries as the entire backfield got loose. Freeman is now the 14th player in school history to rush for 2,000. James Wilder Jr. carried an entire possession on his back in the second quarter. He capped a five-play, 85-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown with 5:54 left in the second quarter. Wilder carried the ball on four of those five plays and accounted for every yard. Karlos Williams added 114 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries. Kenny Shaw recorded his first 100-yard game of the season in the last home game of his career. He finished with 107 yards and two touchdowns on five receptions. Kelvin Benjamin hauled in two touchdowns on his three receptions and now has a touchdown in six of his last seven games. "I dont think our high school basketball team scored 80 points," Shaw said. The Vandals (1-10) were never competitive and that began at the line of scrimmage. They had no answer for nose guard Timmy Jernigan and couldnt create running lanes or protect the quarterback. Jernigan had a team-high 6 tackles, including 4 1/2 for loss and a career-high 2 1/2 sacks. "You know, what do you say when you get beat 80-14?" Idaho coach Paul Petrino said. "I wouldnt say anyone on that team didnt play well." Taylor Davis threw for 220 yards and a touchdown, but three interceptions turned into 14 points for Florida State. Linebacker Telvin Smith returned one of the interceptions 79 yards for a score in the second quarter. The Seminoles have now scored a non-offensive touchdown in three consecutive games. Idaho managed just 59 rushing yards and threw four interceptions. Dezmon Epps finished with 126 yards on seven receptions. "Weve just got a real good vibe about us," Jernigan said. "We just look to dominate week in and week out." ' ' '

ARLINGTON, Texas -- There are no scoring debates when Red Sox slugger DavidOrtiz hits towering home runs and scorching liners into the right-field corner.Derrick Morgan Jersey . A night after Boston managed only one hit off Texas ace YuDarvish, though Ortiz believes it should be two, the Red Sox were hitting from the start Saturday in an 8-3 win over the Rangers. "The attitude in the clubhouse early before the game was nothing about last night," manager John Farrell said. "It was more about how we were going to attack (Martin) Perez, and we did a very good job." Ortiz broke up Darvishs no-hit bid Friday night with a clean single with two outs in the ninth inning. There was also his towering flyball in the seventh that dropped untouched but was ruled an error after Darvish had retired the first 20 Boston hitters -- a scoring decision Ortiz indicated Saturday that he will appeal, though he felt the Red Sox as a group put their struggles behind them. "Oh, you have to. Its not like theres any other choice," Ortiz said. "You got to come back and play the game." ShaneVictorino had three singles and drove in four runs. Ortiz pulled the first pitch of the third off Perez (4-3) into the right-field seats for his seventh homer. His double came an inning later, when he scored as a part of a four-run outburst for a 6-0 Red Sox lead. Asked about the unquestionable hits he had this time, Ortiz laughed, licked his thumb and made a motion with it to match what he said, "Turn the page." JonLester (4-4) limited Texas to three runs and four hits over seven innings. The lefty, coming off a career-high 15 strikeouts in a week earlier against Oakland, struck out eight more to match Detroits MaxScherzer at 66 for the American League lead. "I got away with a lot of pitches, we were able to keep them off balance just enough to get some foul balls and some bad contact," Lester said. "Definitely a grind tonight." The Rangers didnt have a base runner against Lester until Shin-SooChoo led off the fourth with a double to deep centre beyond the reach of centre fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. He came home on a sacrifice fly by PrinceFielder before AlexRios added an RBI triple. Boston went ahead to stay in the second after loading the bases with two outs. Victorino singled to centre to drive in a run, but Bradley was thrown out at the plate trying to score a second run. The homer by Ortiz was his 380th with the Red Sox, breaking a tie with Dwight Evans for fourth on the career list. Jim Rice is third on the list at 382. It was his 19th homer at Texas, one short of JasonGiambi for the most by an opponent there. Victorino and JonnyGomes each had two-run singles in the fourth. Perez lost his third consecutive start since the end of his 26-inning scoreless streak. The left-hander allowed six runs and 14 base runners (nine hits, four walks and a hit batter) in only 3 2-3 innings. "I dont know if somethings out of whack, but it didnt seem like he could get in a rhythm," manager Ron Washington said. Perez has given up 19 runs over 13 1-3 innings the past three games, and his ERA has more than tripled in that span -- from 1.42 to 4.38. "Too many balls, man. Trying to overthrow," Perez said. "I think I get mad and when I get mad I lose my mind. ... And I think that happened with me tonight." Notes: Texas shortstop ElvisAndrus, who significantly trimmed his beard reminiscent of Abraham Lincolns, stretched his hitting streak to seven games with an RBI double in the fifth. ... Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux was ejected in the eighth inning by first-base umpire Vic Carapazza. Washington said it was for arguing balls and strikes. .... Boston RH JohnLackey, a Texas native, is scheduled in Sundays season series finale to make his 20th career road start against the Rangers. That will break his tie with Seattles FelixHernandez for the most by a Texas opponent. ... Texas lefty RobbieRoss (1-3), who starts Sunday, has lost three straight starts and each of his past two games have ended as 12-1 Rangers losses. Kamerion Wimbley Tennessee Titans . -- DwightHoward vs. Chris Spencer Jersey . On Tuesday, they did it again. RoyHibbert scored 22 points and LanceStephenson fell just short of his fourth triple double this season, helping the Pacers hold off Torontos late charge for an 86-79 victory that allowed them to keep the NBAs best record. MELBOURNE, Australia -- The scorching weather finally brought play to a halt on the fourth day of the Australian Open when the temperature topped 43F (109F), but not soon enough for some players who criticized officials for not stopping matches earlier. The Extreme Heat Policy was enacted at Melbourne Park just before 2 p.m. Thursday, suspending all matches on outer courts until the early evening and requiring the closure of the retractable roofs at Rod Laver and Hisense arenas before play could continue on the show courts. It was the first time since 2009 play had been halted due to heat at the Australian Open. For Maria Sharapova, playing at Rod Laver Arena, the call came too late. The rule dictates the roof cant be closed until the end of a set in progress, so she was forced to finish a grueling third set against Italian Karin Knapp under the blazing sun. "Everyone knows there is no tiebreaker in the third set (at the Australian Open), so once you start that set, youre going to be out there until youre done," she said after closing out the 3 1/2-hour match, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8. Other players wilted in the heat. American Varvara Lepchenko received medical treatment during her match against 11th-seeded Romanian Simona Halep, lying flat on her back during a changeover as trainers rubbed iced on her body. "At first I didnt understand what was going on but then my legs, my arms started to get heavier. I couldnt focus at one point and started feeling dizzier and dizzier," she said. She continued but only won one more game in a 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 defeat. "They definitely should have just not started the matches in the first place," she said. ";And the same goes for a couple of days ago when I played my (first) match. Eddie George Tennessee Titans. " The heat wave began Tuesday when the temperature peaked at 42C (108F). The tournament referee did not halt play then because the Extreme Heat Policy also takes into account other factors, such as humidity and wind speed. The distinction is lost on the players, who have grumbled all week about the conditions which some have described as inhumane and dangerous. On Tuesday, Canadian Frank Dancevic blacked out and hallucinated during his match, while Chinas Peng Shuai vomited and suffered cramps. No. 25-seeded Alize Cornet of France sobbed on court Thursday after her draining 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Italian Camila Giorgi, then blasted officials for not halting play sooner. "On Tuesday, I dont know why they didnt stop matches," she said. "It was an oven. An oven. It was burning. Why today and not Tuesday?" The heat hasnt just affected players -- its also kept fans away. Total attendance was just 49,860 on Wednesday, down from Mondays high of 63,595. The unshaded seats on the outer courts were virtually empty Thursday, with spectators congregating under trees or in the upper reaches of stands where temporary covers provided a little relief. New Zealander Helen Naylor escaped the sun after watching fellow Kiwi Marina Erakovic play for a bit on Court 13. "Even the seats are really hot -- God knows how (the players) are running around out there." Relief is as least in sight. Friday will be another scorcher, with an expected high of 44C (111F), but Saturday it will only reach 23C (73F). That may feel downright chilly by comparison. ' ' '

LOS ANGELES -- JordanFarmar scored a career-high 30 points off the bench, making eight of 10 shots from 3-point range, and the Los Angeles Lakers capitalized on the absence of suspended Sacramento star DeMarcusCousins to beat the Kings 126-122 Friday night. Authentic DaRick Rogers Jersey . JodieMeeks made all eight of his shots and finished with 22 points, including three of the Lakers franchise-record 19 3-pointers on 27 attempts. PauGasol also scored 22, and newly acquired reserve MarShonBrooks had 23. The Lakers shot 60 per cent in a matchup of teams with the two worst records in the Western Conference. They have won the first three meetings against the Kings this season, with one remaining on April 2 at Sacramento. Los Angeles is a game behind the Kings in the conference standings and 1 1/2 behind Utah. The Lakers (20-39) must go 11-12 the rest of the way to avoid tying the 1974-75 squad for the worst record in a regulation season since the franchise relocated from Minneapolis to Los Angeles in 1960-61. RudyGay scored 32 points for the Kings, who squandered a 12-point lead before halftime and then blew a 15-point lead in the second half despite converting 17 Lakers turnovers into 25 points. DerrickWilliams and IsaiahThomas each had 27 points. First-year Sacramento coach Michael Malone used his 14th different starting lineup, with Williams making his first start since Feb. 2 and power forward JasonThompson shifting to centre in Cousins spot. Cousins, who is averaging a team-high 22.3 points, received a one-game ban from the NBA on Thursday for punching Houston guard PatrickBeverley in the stomach during the Kings 129-103 home loss Tuesday night. Suspensions are nothing new to Cousins. Last season, the enigmatic four-year veteran with the hair-trigger temper was suspended two games by the league for confronting San Antonio TV analyst and former player Sean Elliott in a hostile manner on the court following the Spurs postgame show, because of some on-air remarks Elliott made criticizing Cousins for trash-talking with TimDuncan. About a month later, Cousins was suspended one game for striking Dallas O.J.Mayo in the groin area. Cousins got into trouble again less than 1 1/2 weeks after that while the Kings were at Staples Center to play the Clippers. That night he shouted at Kings coach Keith Smart in the locker room during halftime, was benched for the rest of that game and then suspended two games for "unprofessional behaviour and conduct detrimental to the team." On New Years Day 2012, Cousins demanded a trade and was ordered by then-coach Paul Westphal to stay home for a game while the team was in New Orleans because of his "lack of commitment" to the organization. NOTES: The only other 30-point game for a Lakers player this season was by NickYoung, who had 31 on Jan. 20 in an overtime loss at Chicago. ... Lakers point guard KendallMarshall played 19 scoreless minutes with 10 assists. ... The Kings came in averaging a league-worst 22.9 fouls. They were called for 16 against the Lakers. ... The Lakers are one of seven teams that have lost 20 or more games by double-digit margins. ... Sacramento will host Minnesota and New Orleans before going back on the road for seven straight games. ... The Lakers have won 16 of their last 20 against the Kings, with three of the losses coming in Sacramento. Authentic Dwayne Allen Jersey . So on Friday, they went to work. The two-time Eastern Conference runner-ups announced they had signed three free agents -- backup big man LavoyAllen, swingman C. Johnny Unitas Indianapolis Colts . He didnt even match his first-half total from Friday night. He didnt have to, with the Knicks offering him plenty of support for a change.LOS ANGELES, Calif. - DavidFreese is in the lineup for St. Louis against Los Angeles in Game 4 of the NL championship series. The third baseman left the fifth inning of Game 3 on Monday night with tightness in his right calf after he appeared to tweak his calf on a swing. He had just singled for the Cardinals first hit of the game. Manager MikeMatheny said Freeese had more of a cramp than anything else and felt good Tuesday when he went out early to test his leg by running. Mike Adams Jersey. Freese was the MVP of the 2011 NLCS and the World Series, setting a major league record with 21 post-season RBIs. After going 1 for 2 in Game 3, he is batting .192 in the post-season, going 5 for 26 with one homer and four RBIs. ' ' '

Despite pounding out 12 hits, the Winnipeg Goldeyes have lost back-to-back games for just the second time this season. Bastian Schweinsteiger Jersey . The Goldeyes (14-9) fell 4-2 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (15-8) Saturday night before a full crowd of 4,571 at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo. "We just struggled to get that big hit," Goldeyes pitching coach Jamie Vermilyea said on the Jewel 101 post-game show. "Its a tough loss." The loss drops Winnipeg a game behind Fargo for first place in the North Division. After Fargo took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a home run from Ronnie Bourquin and an RBI double from Sawyer Carroll, Winnipeg tied the game in the top of the second. With two out, Donnie Webb scored on a Josh Mazzola triple and then Mazzola scored on a Casey Haerther single. Fargo re-took the lead with a run in the bottom of the second and went up 4-2 on a sac fly by Carroll in the fourth inning. Winnipeg had plenty of opportunities the take the lead, as the Goldeyes stranded 10 runners in the game, which was one less than their season high. The most glaring missed chance was in the sixth inning when Winnipeg loaded the bases with one out in the sixth inning, but came up empty. The Goldeyes also put runners on first and second in the ninth inning, but Ray Sadlers fly ball died at the left field wall to end the game. After the giving up four runs in the first four innings, Winnipegs pitching staff retired the last 14 batters they faced. Gabe Aguilar pitched 1 2/3 of scoreless work out of the bullpen, while Kaohi Downing came in for the final out of the bottom of the eight. Matt Jackson had his record drop to 3-2 after suffering the loss for Winnipeg. He gave up four runs and nine hits in six innings of work. "He scuffled early and definitely didnt have his best stuff, but he battled and kept us in the game," Vermilyea said. "It wasnt a quality start, but its definitely respectable and he gave us a chance to win." Jake Laber picked up the win for Fargo, while Nate Garcia worked out of trouble in the ninth inning for the save. The Goldeyes have now lost nine consecutive regular season games in Fargo dating back to 2012. The two sides will meet in the series finale Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Coverage on Jewel 101 (100.7 FM) will begin with Around the Association, which was pre-empted due to technical difficulties prior to Saturdays game, at 12 p.m. Bastian Schweinsteiger fc bayern munich jersey . The World Group first round series will now continue Monday with Spain leading 1-0. Earlier Sunday, Czech Klara Zakopalova led the second singles match against Maria Torro-Flor 6-3, 2-0. Sebastian Rode Shirt . - Gaston Fernandez is making the most of his new job with the Portland Timbers. GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Talib Zanna had 19 points and a career-high 21 rebounds to help Pittsburgh beat No. 15 North Carolina 80-75 in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament quarterfinals Friday. James Robinson also scored a career-best 19 points for the fifth-seeded Panthers (25-8), who used a dominating start to build a huge lead before having to hold off a late rally by the fourth-seeded Tar Heels (23-9). Pittsburgh led by 20 points with 7:22 left before UNCs frantic comeback behind Marcus Paige, who scored 20 of his 27 points after halftime before fouling out with 25.4 seconds left. UNC got it to 78-75 on Nate Britts jumper with 11.4 seconds left but couldnt complete the comeback. James Robinson knocked down two free throws to make it a two-possession game again right after Britts score, then Lamar Patterson rebounded a hurried 3-pointer by James Michael McAdoo with 4.3 seconds left to essentially seal it. Now, after a dominating performance in Thursdays second round and a bumbling-but-successful finish Friday, the Panthers will face sixth-ranked and top-seeded Virginia in Saturdays semifinals. Zanna, a 6-foot-9 fifth-year senior, came within two rebounds of tying the single-game tournament rebounding record that had stood since 1959. He fouled out with 1:03 left. Zanna had 10 offensive rebounds -- one shy of UNCs team total -- and helped Pitt control the boards while taking a 21-6 edge in second-chance points against a team that was third in the league in rebounnding margin for the regular season. Marc-Andre Ter Stegen Shirt. With all those point-blank extra looks off offensive rebounds, Pitt shot 52 per cent for the game. North Carolina spent all day trying to recover from a terrible start. It missed 16 of 19 shots and fell behind 25-8, though its late comeback at least gave them some hope of sticking around Greensboro a little longer. North Carolina shot 42 per cent, though much of that production came after Pitt had built a 61-41 lead on Josh Newkirks three-point play midway through the second half. The Panthers have won five of six to pull out of a three-game losing streak that started to threaten their NCAA tournament chances, with this ranking as probably their best of the year. Now the Tar Heels are suddenly struggling. The Tar Heels started 0-3 in the ACC and stood at 1-4 before running off 12 straight wins, including a home win against Pittsburgh, to earn a top-four seed and double-round bye that came with it. But UNC didnt play well in the final two games of the streak and lost at Duke to close the regular season last weekend, sending them into Greensboro coming off their first loss since Jan. 20. The rebounding trouble was particularly alarming for UNC considering it managed just 20 rebounds in last weekends loss at Cameron Indoor Stadium. During one demoralizing second-half stretch, Zanna tipped in offensive rebounds on consecutive possessions and had 17 rebounds to UNCs 16 with nearly 14 minutes still left. ' ' '

"Paul sent me a text this morning, just told me he loved me and wanted to go out and fight as hard as I would any other day," Simpson said Sunday after doing just that. Babe Ruth Jersey . - The Oakland Raiders have signed quarterback TrentEdwards and defensive tackles DavidCarter and TorellTroup to reserve/future contracts. FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- MikeGoodson never doubted he would be back on the football field someday. Through all of the personal issues he dealt with for the last few months, the New York Jets running back knew hed someday resume his career. But first, he needed to take care of something more important: himself. "I took the time to get myself right," Goodson said Tuesday, "so I could come back and be the best football player I can be." Goodson returned to the team Monday after being away during training camp for personal reasons. In his first comments since his arrest in New Jersey on drugs and weapons charges in May, Goodson declined to go into details of the case or what he was doing while away from the team. "Personally? Yeah, it was kind of embarrassing," Goodson said. He was suspended by the NFL for the first four games of the season for violating the leagues substance abuse policy, and placed on the active non-football injury/illness list by the Jets. "Im pretty disappointed in myself," Goodson said. "I had some things that I had to do. Im back now and I was able to address those things and Im a lot better." When asked if he was seeking treatment for substance abuse during the time he was away from the team, Goodson preferred to keep that private. "Like I said, it was personal things (with) me and my family," he said. "I dont really want to get into those things here." Goodson was on the practice field Tuesday, mostly working with trainers, in his first appearance with the team since May. "I was able to get out and run around a little bit," he said, "get a workout in, get back into it." Despite the long absence, Goodson doesnt think hell be too far behind in picking up the offence because it is similar to that which Oakland ran while he was there last season. He spent his first three NFL seasons with Carolina after being a fourth-round pick out of Texas A&M, and will likely serve as a change-of-pace back for the Jets. He could also potentially fill the kick returner role once held by JoeMcKnight, who was released Monday. "Spark," Goodson said when asked what he could provide the offence. "I think Im really explosive and given four weeks to prepare for something, I think Ill be pretty explosive and ready to play." The NFL said in a statement announcing the suspension that Goodson will be eligible to return to the Jets active roster on Sept. 30, a day after the teams game against the Tennessee Titans. The first game he would be eligible to play in would be against Atlanta on Oct. 7 -- a Mondayy night.Babe Ruth Shirts. He will be permitted to attend meetings and work out on his own at the teams practice facility during his suspension, but wont be able to practice or play. "Im really happy to get Mike back, theres no question about it," coach Rex Ryan said. "Hell get up to speed. When he left, he had a pretty good grasp of what we were doing. Obviously, the conditioning part, hell have to get into football shape without being able to practice, so that will be a challenge." Ryan wouldnt say that he was disappointed in the running back. "Everybody in here has made mistakes," he said. "I know Ive made plenty, and its well-documented. So, for me to pass judgment on somebody, Im just glad hes back with us." Goodson was arrested in May with friend Garant Evans after they were found in a car stopped on Interstate 80 in New Jersey. The men were charged with marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and weapons offences. Police said they found a .45-calibre semi-automatic handgun and a hollow-point bullet in the vehicle. The 26-year-old Goodson pleaded not guilty and took part in some preseason practices with the Jets, who signed him to a three-year, $6.9 million deal. The case was sent to a grand jury, but no court date has been scheduled. He said he had no plans to appeal his suspension by the NFL because it was "just something that I didnt want to do." Goodson wasnt sure if the Jets would release him at some point, but repeatedly said the team has been supportive of him through the entire process. "I just have my life in order," he said. "I was able to get my life in order and able to look at some things that I wasnt happy with with myself." Goodson wouldnt elaborate, but he acknowledged that he was a bit nervous about how he would be received by his Jets teammates when he returned. "But the guys have been great," he said. "It was all smiles and hugs when I got back, so its good." One of his biggest goals is to earn back the trust of his teammates, and he plans to do that by putting in a lot of work and not talking much. "I think the proof is in your actions," he said. He acknowledged that he has met with Ryan and general manager John Idzik about what is expected of him. While he wouldnt reveal what was said, Goodson isnt necessarily operating under an assumption that he needs to have not even the slightest misstep from here on out. "Nobodys perfect," he said. "But like I said, Im going to do my best and Im better for the job now that I did take the time that I needed." ' ' '

HAMILTON, Ont. Marquette King Jersey . - The Lake Erie Monsters scored four goals in six minutes of the second period en route to a 5-3 victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs in American Hockey League play Friday. Gabriel Beaupre, Guillaume Desbiens and J.T. Wyman had goals, while Stefan Elliot and Mitchell Heard each had a goal and two assists for the Monsters (8-6-0). Sami Aittokallio made 31 saves. Justin Courtnall, Joonas Nattinen and Mike Blunden scored for the Bulldogs (5-7-3), who have now lost six straight and seven of their last eight games. Dustin Tokarski made 9 saves in relief of starter Robert Mayer, who was pulled after allowing four goals on 19 shots. Gabriel Dumont showcased his strength and tenacity to create the games opening goal for the Bulldogs. The centre, who was reassigned to Hamilton by the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday, stole the puck from a Lake Erie defender behind the net, and fought off a check to curl out in front. He was unable to release a shot, but Courtnall seized on the loose puck and swept it through a screen and past Aittokallio at 8:27 of the first period. KANSAS CITY, Mo. Albert McClellan Jersey . -- BillyButler is hot at the plate and Kansas City Royals are even hotter. Butler homered and drove in three runs and right fielder Nori Aoki threw out two runners in the same inning as the Royals beat the San Francisco Giants 4-2 Friday night for their fifth straight victory. The Royals, who have not been in the playoffs since winning the 1985 World Series, hold a half game lead for the second AL wild card. They have won 13 of 16. Butler, who is hitting .423 in the past seven games, homered with two out in the first off MadisonBumgarner (13-9). In the past 13 games, Butler has four home runs and 11 RBIs. "Those are feeling really good," Butler said. "Bumgarner is one of the best pitchers in the National League and in baseball in general. I just caught one out front. He battled all night, throwing a complete game. We capitalized on a few mistakes and got some runs across." Said Bumgarner of Butlers homer, "It just caught a bit too much of the middle of the plate. Hes a good hitter." Butler singled home the go-ahead run in the two-run sixth, which was aided by throwing errors on Giants infielders MichaelMorse and Matt Duffy. AlexGordon had an RBI single. "Morse had more time than he thought," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "Youd just like to get one out there. Duffy knew he came of the bag and was trying to get the out (at first)." The Giants scored twice in the third on JoaquinArias double and Matt Duffys single. Aoki prevented a bigger inning, throwing out HunterPence at third and Arias at home. "You might get two in a game, but never two in an inning," Aoki said through a translator. The Giants out hit the Royals 12-7, but self-destructed with three errors and base running blunders. Bumgarner went the distance, allowing four runs on seven hits, while walking none and striking out five. His road scoreless streak was snapped at 17 innings. JasonFrasor (3-1), the second of five Royals pitchers, threw a spotless sixth, striking out two. GregHolland pitched a flawless ninth for his American League-leading 33rd save in 35 opportunities. It was Hollands 100th career save. Justin Tucker Authentic Jersey . Wright sat out games on Tuesday and Wednesday after learning he broke his finger diving back to a base Monday night. TimDuncan could have easily gone out on top, with his fifth NBA championship trophy under his arm and his health intact just a few months after his 38th birthday. Albert Pujols Authentic Jersey . Theres just no way. Duncan is having too much fun with his San Antonio Spurs coaches and teammates, and hes playing too well to call it quits now. Duncan has decided to exercise the option on his contract for 2014-15 and will return next season, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Monday. The person requested anonymity because an official announcement has not been made. As the Spurs beat the two-time defending champion Miami Heat in the NBA Finals earlier this month, Duncan was asked several times about his future, as he has been for the last five or six years. He was noncommittal, saying he would take some time after the season ended to mull his decision. But after Game 5, most of the Spurs said they expected the group to return and now Duncan has reached his decision, which was first reported by Yahoo! Sports. He will make about $10.3 million next season in the final year of a two-year agreement that was drawn up specifically to allow the Spurs the financial flexibility to surround Duncan with top-shelf talent. "He feels a responsibility to his teammates," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said after the team won the championship. "He enjoys them. He wants to hang around as long as he can while hes useful and while hes having an impact on the game. He takes care of his body. He works out all summer long with a variety of different things, boxing, swimming. Hes very careful about what he puts in his body, so he does everything he can to maintain a level of play. "At some point," Popovich added, "that will stop." But not this year. When Duncan looked around at the Spurs, he saw every reason to come back and try to do just about the only thing the Spurs havent done during his 17 years there -- win back-to-back titles. In Popovich he has perhaps the best coach in the game, one who has established a culture of teamwork, success and stability that is unparalleled in the league. In TonyParker and ManuGinobili, he has two trusted teammates who have been by his side for years, have sacrificed money, fame and statistics right along with him to build the Spurs organization into the envy of the NBA. And in Finals MVP KawhiLeonard, Duncan has a young, fresh-faced star on the rise to carry more of the load as the Big Three get older. "With the front office putting the teams together that weve had and us playing smaller roles and our roles changing over the years, and us happy to accept the roles that were in, I feel we can do it until we feel we dont want to do it anymore," Duncan said two weeks ago. Perhaps as important as anything, Duncan is still one of the best big men in the league. He was named first team All-NBA in 2012-13 as he helped the Spurs to the finals, where they lost to the Heat in a heart-breaking seven-game series. This season, Duncan averaged 15.1 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in just 29.2 minutes per game, playing in a system expertly devised by Popovich to limit the wear and tear on his body. He shot almost 57 per cent in the finals and dismantled Heat star ChrisBosh, who grew up with a Duncan poster on his bedroom wall. "Weve been on our last run for the last five or six years from how everyone wants to put it," Duncan said. "We show up every year, and we try to put together the best teams and the best runs possible because what people say doesnt matter to us. "As I said, as long as we feel were being effective, were going to stay out here and were going to play. We feel like we can be effective, and we have been." Custom Angels Jersey . Fortunately for the Ragin Cajuns, they had Corey Trim to make a game-changing play on defence. Trim returned an interception 82 yards for a touchdown, Hunter Stover hit a go-ahead 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, and Louisiana-Lafayette held off Tulane 24-21 on Saturday night for its third straight New Orleans Bowl victory. Mike Trout Authentic Jersey .com) - Top-seeded former winner Novak Djokovic, who survived an injury scare, and defending champion Andy Murray highlighted Fridays third-round winners at Wimbledon.Top-seeded Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia beat last years runner-up Lourdes Dominguez Lino of Spain 7-5, 6-2 on Wednesday to reach the quarterfinals of the Grand Prix SAR. Hantuchova won five straight games to take the first set and lead 2-0 in the second. Garbine Muguruza of Spain, Peng Shuai of China and Shahar Peer of Israel also won their second-round matches. The fifth-seeded Muguruza broke serve six times in her 6-3, 6-2 win over Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland. Muguruza will face Peer, who overcame Patricia Mayr-Achleitner of Austria 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-6 (3) in a match that lasted more than three hours. Peer took a 4-0 lead in the final tiebreaker after Mayr failed to serve out the match at 5-4 and 6-5 in the last set. Nolan Ryan Authentic Jersey. The sixth-seeded Peng defeated Ukrainian qualifier Maryna Zanevska 6-4, 7-6 (5) to next play Hantuchova. Zanevska made five double-faults and dropped serve at 5-4 in the first set. Peng rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the final set and led 5-1 in the tiebreaker. In her return from injury, Polona Hercog of Slovenia cruised past seventh-seeded Zhang Shuai of China 6-2, 6-2 to move into the second round. Hercog broke Zhang twice in the first set and three times in the second. She has been sidelined by a right rib injury since the Australian Open where she retired in the first round because of a right shoulder injury. ' ' '

MINNEAPOLIS -- The banged-up Minnesota Timberwolves were just what the Portland Trail Blazers needed. Tyvon Branch Authentic Jersey . Having lost six of their previous 10 games, and with a date against first-place Oklahoma City looming on Tuesday, the Blazers took advantage of a Timberwolves team missing three of its best players. "We felt that way even if they had all their guys," LaMarcusAldridge said after scoring 26 points to lead Portland past Minnesota 117-110 Saturday night. "If they had those guys, it definitely wouldve been different, but this was a must-win game either way." Aldridge scored 16 of his points in the second half and WesleyMatthews added 21 as the Blazers held off a tougher-than-expected Wolves team missing starters KevinLove, NikolaPekovic and KevinMartin. Just minutes before tipoff, the Wolves announced Love -- their All-Star power forward -- would miss the game with a bruised left quadriceps sustained in Friday nights loss in New Orleans. Shortly before that, Martin was ruled out indefinitely with a broken left thumb, also suffered against the Pelicans. Combined with Pekovic, the trio accounts for an average of 60 points and 25 rebounds per game. "It takes a little edge off the game," Blazers coach Terry Stotts said. "We found out KevinMartin wasnt going to play early and then Love wasnt going to play. I think that deflates the balloon a little bit, you kind of get yourself up for guys like that." But the Blazers knew they couldnt afford to let up against the scrappy Wolves, who trailed for most of the first half but led 82-75 with 1:50 to play in the third quarter. CoreyBrewer led Minnesota with 26 points and RickyRubio scored a career-high 25. Minnesota led 87-85 with 9:48 to play in the game before Portland went on a 13-1 run to put the game away. Minnesota pulled within 101-96 with 3:29 to play before Matthews scored five straight and RobinLopez hit a layup to put the game out of reach. The Wolves got 19 points from ChaseBudinger, 14 from DanteCunningham and a season-high 12 from rookie ShabazzMuhammad. "It doesnt matter whos out," coach Rick Adelman said. "The next guy steps up, thats how you have to approach it. You cant worry about whos not playing, worry about who is playing, and make the best out of the situation. I thought we played well tonight." Aldridge had six points during Portlands game-deciding 13-1 run in the fourth quarter. That run came with Rubio on the bench. Rookie C.J.McCollum had a season-high 19 points and NicolasBatum added 15 for the Blazers, who finished their four-game road trip 2-2. "We were really counting on our bench tonight because I really wanted to rest the starters," Stotts said. "They all played a lot of minutes last night and the first half the bench really gave us a boost. We were able to make a little ground with them in the game." Minnesotas key starters also got a rest -- in their street clothes. "Its tough having all of those guys out," Budinger said. "Those are huge impact guys for us and were hoping Kevin was able to go but he was really struggling and hurting. He tried to get himself going but just couldnt do it." NOTES: During halftime, Love told The AP he hopes to play on Monday night against Houston. ... The Blazers played a second-straight game without backup point guard MoWilliams, who left the team Friday for family reasons. Stotts did not have an update on when Williams might return. ... Adelman is assuming Pekovic will not return until after the All-Star break. ... Love bought a full-page advertisement in Sundays Minneapolis Star Tribune thanking fans for voting him an All-Star starter. "Just my way of paying tribute to the fans," he said at halftime. Carlos Rogers Authentic Jersey .C. -- CamNewton wasnt flawless on Sunday. John Matuszak Jersey . -- ChampBailey finally gets a chance to live up to his name.LAKE BUENA VISTA, Florida - However you slice it, the Blue Jays need to add two starting pitchers before the season starts on March 31 in Tampa Bay. Whether the return to health of BrandonMorrow and the emergence of one of the clubs pitching prospects DrewHutchison, KyleDrabek, SeanNolin, MarcusStroman add up to two arms or whether acquisitions are made via trade or through free agency, the rotation must improve in order for Toronto to contend. With the wrap up of this mass gathering of owners, executives, media and the odd player, general manager Alex Anthopoulos hopes now is the time he can truly get down to business. I actually get relieved when we leave the winter meetings, said Anthopoulos. I find we can get back to work a little bit when we get back home. Theres too much going on here with every team. Theyve got agent meetings, clubs and I think people, including us, can just get paralyzed. Despite his feeling toward the three day event, Anthopoulos believes hes laid the foundation for possible moves. Similar, I would say, said Anthopoulos when asked to compare his work to that of past winter meetings. There are some things that we could do. Were trying to do more than one thing, especially on the trade market. We have so many assets so were trying to figure out, okay, how can we divide up all these assets and make sure that we get these two or three things rather than just use too many assets to get one and then were stuck. Despite a disappointing 2013 and the expectation of a bounce back next year, he doesnt feel rushed to make a move and wont be pressured. Were comfortable going into any time, said Anthopoulos. Theres no timeline of December, January. Whenever it happens, it happens. We did the VernonWells deal in late January. KNUCKLING UP One-time Blue Jay TomoOhka is back in the fold, signing a minor league contract. Ohka, 37, is attempting to follow the path of R. Tim Brown Jersey. .A.Dickey and reestablish his career as a knuckleballer. The one thing is hes a good athlete, said general manager Alex Anthopoulos. Hes got a repeatable delivery and he was a strike thrower, which is a pretty good combination. How much success he has, how it works, too hard to tell but he does have some of the ingredients and he has a will, he has a will to do it. Anthopoulos has approached R.A.Dickey about tutoring Ohka and Dickey has agreed to be of help where he can. Dickey successfully transitioned from being a conventional pitcher to a knuckleballer. Expect Ohka to begin the 2014 season with Double-A New Hampshire. Ohka made 10 starts for the Blue Jays in 2007, posting a record of 2-5 with a 5.79 ERA. He spent three-and-a-half seasons with the Montreal Expos, winning 27 games, before moving with the franchise to Washington for the 2005 season. RULE 5 DRAFT The Blue Jays selected left-hander Brian Moran from the Seattle Mariners but promptly traded him to the Los Angeles Angels for international cap space. The deal affords the Jays a higher monetary ceiling in the pursuit of young, draft ineligible international free agents. CURBING COLLISIONS The push is on to ban collisions between base runners and catchers at home plate. I dont have a strong feeling one way or the other, I could go either way, said Anthopoulos on whether home plate collisions should stay in, or be removed from, the game. Theres more money involved. Salaries are going up. Its tough when you lose these guys with collisions and things like that. I think thats a big factor, obviously. You just cant afford to have some of your star players going down. A draft document detailing the new rule will be ready in January, at which point it will require approval from the rules committee, owners and the Players Association. Fines and suspensions are expected to be among the penalties for offenders in home plate collisions. ' ' '

Interleague play has been a boon for Major League Baseball. Authentic Zach Mettenberger Jersey . For the Blue Jays, not so much. This weekend, battling to get back over the .500 mark, John Gibbons and company kick off a stretch of seven straight games against the National League. They start with three at Pittsburgh against the struggling Pirates and then follow up that series with two at Philadelphia before returning home the next night to kick off a two-game set at Rogers Centre with the Phillies. After salvaging the final game of their three-game set at Kansas City on Thursday night with a 7-3 victory, the Jays sit at 13-15 but thanks largely to the injuries and flaws of the other teams in the AL East, they are still just two-and-a-half games back of the first place Yankees. Still, if the Blue Jays are going to keep it that close, theyve got to start beating the National League clubs with more regularity. Since interleague play came into being in 1997, the Blue Jays have compiled a record of 143-160. The first 16 years, the games were compressed into a small portion of the schedule when school was out in June and early July for the most part. Last season, with Houston moving to the American League, there were 15 teams in each league so there pretty well had to be at least one interleague game each and every day of the season. Last season, the first year under the new format, the Jays actually had a winning record against the National League clubs at 11-9. But overall, the Jays interleague record pales to those of the Yankees and Red Sox. The Yanks are 179-123 over the 17 years heading into this season. Boston is right behind them at 175-128. It isnt just the big boys who have success in interleague play, though. The Angels, who havent won a World Series since 2002, are 174-130 against the senior circuit over that span. The White Sox are 171-132 and even the Minnesota Twins are 165-137. If you average it out over 17 seasons, the Blue Jays have cost themselves about two games per season versus the Yanks and Red Sox in the East by struggling in interleague play. The American League has dominated this annual showdown between the two leagues, having the better record in 13 of the 17 seasons. Oddly enough, though, in the beginning the National League was up four winning seasons to three over the first seven interleague plays. The American League has dominated ever since. Nine American League teams are above .500 in the crossover play to just five National League clubs. The top National League club in interleague play is Atlanta at 148-131, followed by St. Louis at 135-120. Miami has done surprisingly well at 149-141. Luckily for the Blue Jays, the two teams they are playing against over the next seven days havent traditionally done well against the American League. Pittsburgh is the worst at 106-143 and the Phillies are 127-158. The Pirates have really had their troubles this season. After making the playoffs last season for the first time since 1992, the Bucs are 10-18 this time around. They lost one of their top pitchers in A.J Burnett in the offseason as a free agent to the Phillies, while lefty WandyRodriguez is recouping from a knee injury. But the Pirates real problem has been cashing in runners. They stranded 28 men in dropping a day/night doubleheader to Baltimore Thursday. On top of that, their number one catcher, RussellMartin of Montreal, is on the disabled list. The Pirates are in a virtual tie for last in the NL Central with the Cubs. The Phillies are only marginally better. They are 13-13, tied with Miami for last in the AL East. Yes the Phillies were stung by the retirement of RoyHalladay in the offseason but like the Pirates, their problem is run production. If you can believe it, their outfielders have only 15 extra base hits and the season is a month old. These are teams the Blue Jays must beat. Anything less than five out of seven will be a failure. One thing to remember about the Phillies is that they won a World Series in 2008; just six years ago. Yet this year, they lost 6,000 season ticket holders and their average attendance drop from a year ago, according to Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer, is 9,129 per game. This, for a team that has known recent success and has a pretty new and fan-friendly ballpark. The inclement weather of April likely plays a major part in the Phillies drop-off, but it just shows fans wont put up with mediocrity forever. I was more than a bit surprised that the team with the second biggest drop-off is Detroit at 5,493 per game. This, for a Tigers team that seems to win the AL Central nearly every year and has been to the World Series, albeit, hasnt won twice in the last eight seasons. You might have missed it but the Dodgers franchise reached a milestone on Wednesday, winning its 10,000th game. The only others to reach that magic figure are the Giants, the Cubs and the Braves. And of those four, the Cubs are the only teams to have played their entire existence in one city. The Dodgers ZackGreinke is putting up some obscure but impressive stats, nonetheless. Hes off to a 5-0 start this season and has made 18 straight starts where he has pitched five innings or more and given up two or fewer runs. That hasnt happened in 100 years -- since 1914. The last time Greinke started a season 6-0, he won the Cy Young Award in 2009 while in the American League. AdamLind isnt close to returning to the active roster yet. Hes still rehabbing his back. But when he is healthy again, the Blue Jays could face an interesting dilemma if JuanFrancisco keeps hitting the way he is. There is no way the Jays can carry EdwinEncarnacion, Lind and Francisco on the same roster. Francisco has one edge over Lind in the versatility department in that he can also play 3rd base in a pinch. Linds not in any kind of jeopardy, but this situation will be interesting to watch. Antonio Johnson Jersey . Miller finished in two minutes, 6.09 seconds, one day before the first medal race on the Alpine schedule. The 36-year-old American also turned in the top time in Thursdays opening training session. Wesley Woodyard Tennessee Titans . The Michigan lineman faces three assault charges stemming from an incident in December, according to a report from ESPN. The report states Lewan is scheduled to be arraigned in April on one count of aggravated assault and two counts of assault or assault and battery. The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without the services of forward JoffreyLupul for about two weeks. Leafs coach Randy Carlyle confirmed on Wednesday that the forwards grade-two groin strain will sideline the former All-Star for a fortnight. Lupul was injured during Mondays 6-0 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. He appeared to hurt himself in the second period, jostling for positionin the corner with Jackets defenceman RyanMurray. Sammie Lee Hill Tennessee Titans. He left the game and did not return. In 22 games this season, the 30-year-old has eight goals and seven assists. He had previously missed two games in late October with a bruised foot. ' ' '

TORONTO -- One of John Herdmans World Cup goals for 2015 is to field the most resilient and connected team. Jimmy Smith Jersey . "This resilience training starts now," Canadas womens soccer coach said. The Canadians face South Korea at Edmontons Commonwealth Stadium on Oct. 30, a friendly that both gives the women a chance to get used to the stadium where theyll open up their World Cup campaign, and tests their resiliency. Average temperatures for Oct. 30 in the Alberta capital range from 0 to 6 C. "The players need to see that it is part of the test to keep themselves focused on the task at hand," Herdman said on a conference call Thursday to announce his preliminary roster. "Im hoping the warm reception of the crowd warms everything up for us; the more people we put in the stadium, the warmer it will be." The Canadian team that will face South Korea features 13 Olympic bronze medallists plus 16-year-old national team rookie Sura Yekka, as Herdman continues to evaluate young talent before the final push to the World Cup. Star striker Christine Sinclair is one of the 13 who captured bronze for Canada at the 2012 London Olympics, while Yekka, a defender from Mississauga, Ont., earned her first call-up to Canadas senior squad after an impressive showing for the national under-20 side. "As a 16-year-old Sura fits the profile of that modern fullback, she ticks a lot of the boxes that were looking for, and I think thats whats exciting," Herdman said. "As I said to the young players when they came into that camp, if youre good enough youre old enough. And this player is someone that looks really exciting and could have a promising future." Canada, which has three wins and a loss all-time against South Korea, was beaten 3-1 by the Koreans the last time the two teams met, at the Yongchuan Cup tournament in January. Twelve of the 18 players on the current roster played the last time the two countries faced off. Yekka is one of 32 new faces Herdman has had into camp in his quest to field a younger team when Canada hosts the World Cup. He warned there would be growing pains in the early going of what he called a "two-steps-back three-steps-forward" approach. "When you immerse 30-odd new players into a program, no other national teams do that straight after a World Cup, you wont see that happen very often," Herdman said. The game marks the first for the Canadian women at Commonwealth Stadium since a friendly against Germany in 2005. There will be more to come in Edmonton, as Canada will play its opening game of the 2015 FIFA Womens World Cup at Commonwealth. Cold weather or not, the choice of stadium was part of Herdmans World Cup preparation plans, "to get the experience of playing in that opening stadium," he said. Hes hoping Edmontonians will "give us the best chance to experience what its going to be like at the Womens World Cup because bringing the team here, its important that we get a sense of how its going to roll out, hows its going to feel, what all the processes and systems are that weve got to get used to to perform on the big day." Herdman believes South Korea will qualify for the World Cup, and could even be in Canadas group when they play the preliminary round in Edmonton. Kelechi Osemele Kids . He missed a three-game series against New York this week after suffering the injury last Sunday while trying to leg out a base hit during a game in Cincinnati. Haloti Ngata Kids . Johnson, 34, appeared in three games for the Baltimore Orioles last season after being acquired from the New York Yankees organization on Aug. 30. The six-foot-two, 210-pound native of Coon Rapids, Minn. The Edmonton Oilers havent made the playoffs in eight seasons, and it appeared that they might be ready to take a step forward in 2013-2014, but they fell flat once again. Off-Season Game Plan looks at an Oilers team that ought to be feeling a sense of urgency, as they have top-end talent approaching their prime years and need to get on the winning track quickly. Lots has been made of the Oilers stocking up on talent through the draft and its that talent that brings about expectations. If TaylorHall and JordanEberle and RyanNugent-Hopkins hadnt shown promise, then maybe the Oilers would be just a team adrift. This isnt to suggest that the Oilers are on the cusp of being great, because weve been down this road too many times to place those expectation, but if GM Craig MacTavish can bring in some pieces that will help improve the teams defensive play, then there is at least some reason for optimism. Expectations were in place last season, but goaltending put the Oilers in an early hole. Thats been addressed with the additions of BenScrivens and ViktorFasth. They still have a talented group of young forwards, some of whom have more potential to realize, but if they could round out the group with solid two-way players, they could be on the right track. The blueline, however, is a prime area of concern, and its not easily rectified. "We need a few pieces that can really move this thing along," MacTavish told the Edmonton Sun, "And in my mind Id like to add a very high end defenceman." Maybe the Oilers could be willing to offer their first-round pick, No. 3 overall, if it would get them the number one defenceman they sorely need, but that may not be enough. Teams that have top-tier defencemen dont trade them, so for the Oilers to make that kind of deal -- to convince a team to move one -- they might have to go bigger and bolder. After missing the playoffs every year since 2006, maybe its time for the Oilers to go bigger and bolder. The TSN.ca Rating is an efficiency rating based on per-game statistics including goals and assists -- weighted for strength (ie. power play, even, shorthanded) -- Corsi, adjusted for zone starts, quality of competition and quality of teammates, hits, blocked shots, penalty differential and faceoffs. Generally, a replacement-level player is around a 60, a top six forward and top four defenceman will be around 70, stars will be over 80 and MVP candidates could go over 90. SidneyCrosby finished at the top of the 2013-2014 regular season ratings at 87.12. Salary cap information all comes from the indispensable www.capgeek.com. Over the past two seasons, as a 21 and 22-year-old, Hall has averaged 1.08 points per game. Since 2000, the list of forwards to record a higher points-per-game at that age includes SidneyCrosby, EvgeniMalkin, AlexOvechkin, StevenStamkos and NicklasBackstrom. Halls point production is better than PatrickKane, JoeThornton and JohnTavares at the same age, so hes in top-tier company and if his team manages to control the puck more consistently, the numbers can still get better. After a breakout year in 2011-2012 and a regression year in 2013, JordanEberle settled in with a nicely productive 65-point season. Over the past three seasons, Eberle has 178 points, which ranks 17th in the league (Hall is 14th), so theres plenty of room for him to play a top-line role. At the same time, presuming that Hall is untouchable, Eberle could be the most attractive trade chip the Oilers have if they are looking at a deal for a number one defenceman. After coming over in an off-season trade with St. Louis, DavidPerron finished with a career-high 28 goals and 57 points. Hes been healthy, missing only four games in the past two seasons, and provides another legitimate scoring threat. He hasnt burst through in a big way, yet, but 21-year-old RyanNugent-Hopkins put up a career-high 56 points, as he was asked to handle fewer defensive zone starts compared to 2012-2013. Nugent-Hopkins hasnt been as flashy as Hall or Eberle, but plays a sound two-way game and thats not something that should be overlooked on a team that needs to be more reliable. SamGagner had a breakout season in 2012-2013, scoring 38 points in 48 games (a career-best 0.79 points per game), but then had his jaw broken before the start of last season and, strangely enough, struggled to get on track after that. After a relatively unlucky year, though, Gagner is a decent candidate for a bounceback season in 2014-2015. Veteran checking centre BoydGordon was brought in to relieve some defensive pressure, and no one started a lower percentage of their shifts in the offensive zone, so he does the heavy defensive lifting that, theoretically, should free up others to handle the offensive responsibilities. The first two seasons of NailYakupovs career have brought ups and downs, and his perceived value is probably at a low point due to a season of unfavourable percentages. PDO, which measures 5-on-5 shooting and save percentages when a player is on the ice (and is considered a gauge for who has been lucky or unlucky), has Yakupov ranked mostly among fourth-line grinders, who legimiately shouldnt expect their on-ice shooting percentage to be above average. There are no guarantees, of course, but 20-year-old Yakupov still has the high-end potential to be a big scorer, which makes it all the more difficult to do anything other than wait on his emergence. In their quest to add more grit to the fourth line, the Oilers traded for MattHendricks, taking on an inflated contract that pays $1.85-million per season for the next three years. Hendricks is undeniably tough, but wasnt effective last season and somehow played more than 14 minutes a game for the Oilers. That might fit the salary, but it doesnt match his production. Big winger JesseJoensuu was looking for a fresh start after failing to stick with the Islanders and he got a chance with the Oilers last season. While he produced very little, there were also extenuating circumstances in terms of zone starts and horrific percentages that could result in something better. But the 26-year-old, who has 20 points in 109 career games and didnt play after March 14, also may not be part of the plans going forward. LukeGazdic was handed a full-time role as the Oilers enforcer and no one in the league played fewer minutes while also registering more penalty minutes than Gazdics 127. He ranked third in the league with 15 fighting majors, so he can handle the rough stuff. Its the actual hockey playing that poses problems, as he had the worst possession stats in the league. Smallish forward MarkArcobello couldnt hold down a regular spot with the Oilers, though his possession numbers might have warranted it, and he crushed the AHL with 28 points in 15 games, earning a one-way deal for next season. Will that land him a regular spot in the lineup, or will it make Arcobello a well-paid minor-leaguer? There has been lots of talk about the Oilers moving their first-round pick, third overall, and thats certainly in play if they could get a premier defenceman, but if the Oilers somehow decide to hold the pick and have their choice of one of SamReinhart, Sam Bennett or Leon Draisaitl, well, that would be another quality asset around which to build. Its asking a lot for 35-year-old Ference to handle this workload going forward, but he is one steady influence. Once the Oilers called up MartinMarincin, they had the making of a quality second defence pairing with Marincin and JeffPetry. Marincins relative possession numbers were very good, while facing quality opposition, so the lanky 22-year-old is a promising piece for next season. Highly-touted coming out of the University of Wisconsin, JustinSchultz has put up 60 points in 122 career games, which puts him in pretty good company offensively. The trouble is, Schultz gets eaten up in terms of puck possesson. Thats not entirely on him, but Schultzs game to this point doesnt warrant the kind of ice time that hes been getting. If hes going to keep playing 23 minutes a night, he simply has to be better; the other alternative being that the Oilers find others to take smoe of that ice time and limit Schultzs exposure. PhilipLarsen is a finesse blueliner, who has been hanging around the fringe of the lineup. Hes mobile and a fine puck-mover, but hes not particularly physical and tends to get squeezed out of bottom pair minutes by bruisers. Thats not to suggest that his game warrants more; its just a reflection of what has happened as he battles for ice time. JeffPetry emerged as one of the Oilers most reliable defencemen last season, particularly once paired with Marincin. Petry has good size, can skate and move the puck, and was one of 22 defenceman to combine for at least 300 hits plus blocked shots. Yes, that means the Oilers didnt have the puck so much, but they actually had it more with Petry and Marincin than any other time. For all the improvement needed on Edmontons defence, they could do worse than pressing forward with Petry and Marincin playing in a shutdown role. In addition to prospects DarnellNurse and OscarKlefbom, the Oilers also have to consider what kind of deals they might be able to make to secure a top pair defenceman. There are long-in-the-tooth free agents (AndreiMarkov, DanBoyle, StephaneRobidas) that have played top pair minutes, or the likes of MattNiskanen and MarkFayne, who had strong seasons, but dont have the same pedigree. Or, maybe the Oilers can swing that blockbuster trade. There have long been rumours about Edmonton trading one of their top young forwards and/or the third pick in the draft to bring in someone who can handle the big minutes, the tough minutes, for the Oilers. He ended last season playing a career-high 40 games and posting a .922 save percentage, so hes earned his shot at the starting job, but hes also played 72 career games, and Dubnyk had played 139 games before going south last year, so who knows how it will turn out? With that in mind, the Oilers have another option too. ViktorFasth had a terrific first NHL season, in 2012-2013, posting a .921 save percentage in 25 games for Anaheim. Groin problems resulted in Fasth getting bypassed in Anaheim, but the 31-year-old is capable of at least handling a split in duties with Scrivens. Top Prospects Player Pos. Whether he plays next year or not, Nurse is a strong prospect with the upside to, ideally, become a number one defenceman. OscarKlefbom was the 19th pick in 2011 and was okay in a 17-game trial (1 G, 2 A, 44.3 CF%) with the Oilers late in the season. Hes 20-years-old, so more time in the AHL would be an entirely reasonable plan for next season. A big centre with limited offensive upside, BogdanYakimov was a third-round pick last year (five picks ahead of AntonSlepyshev) and has decided that he will play in North America next season. AntonSlepyshev isnt yet 20-years-old and has already played four seasons in the KHL. He has good size and while he hasnt managed to score much in the KHL, hes produced at international tournaments (including seven points in seven games at the World Juniors). High-risk, high-reward blueliner MartinGernat has lots of potential, if not a lot of weight, packed onto his 6-foot-5 frame. Given some time to get stronger, he could start handling more important minutes. Drafted in the second round in 2012, Mitch Moroz is a big winger who crashed and banged his way to 35 goals in the WHL; the next test is to see if he can play the power forward game as a pro. A second-round pick in 2010, TylerPitlick got into 10 games (1 G, 0 A, 41.5 CF%) with the Oilers last season, starting a disproportionate amount of his shifts in the defensive zone. With 55 points in 145 career AHL games, hes not likely to be more than a checker at the next level. A seventh-round pick last summer, Greg Chase had a tremendous season as a playmaking two-way centre. With some time to develop, he could prove to be a late-round bargain. Projecting goaltenders is difficult work, especially a 21-year-old whose experience is primarily in the ECHL, but LaurentBrossoit was appealing enough for the Oilers to acquire as part of the LadislavSmid trade. A sixth-round pick of the Flames in 2011, Brossoit will need time to develop. After leaving college hockey for the WHL, JujharKhaira had modest offensive production, so he likely needs some time before hes considered a serious prospect, but he has time to develop. A second-round pick of the Oilers in 2009, AntonLander has all of eight points in 94 career NHL games, which would make it easy enough to write him off as a forward prospect, but he just put up 52 points in 46 AHL games and that is the kind of production that could at least warrnt interest from another team. The other piece coming to Edmonton in the Smid trade, RomanHorak also had a strong AHL campaign and has the speed to make it as a checking winger and penalty killer. In addition to those prospects, defencemen DillonSimpson and DavidMusil provide additional organizational depth.
