The testimony relates to an autopsy report on Steenkamps body that said she still had food in her stomach after she was killed by Pistorius, leading prosecutors to challenge his story that the couple last ate around eight hours before he shot her through a toilet door. An expert testifying for the prosecution said a persons stomach is normally empty of food six hours after eating and Steenkamp ate much later on the night of the killing and not in line with Pistorius story. Prosecutors say thats because the couple were up arguing late into the night before Pistorius shot Steenkamp multiple times in the midst of a heated fight through a toilet stall door in his bathroom. Pistorius says he mistook her for an intruder hiding behind the closed toilet stall door. He testified the couple had dinner at around 7 p.m. on the night she was killed, and they were in bed around 10 p.m. Pistorius shot Steenkamp after 3 a.m. on Feb. 14, 2013. Lundgren, who described herself as a specialist anesthetist, testified that there are a number of factors that could have delayed the digestion process in Steenkamp to explain the food found in her stomach, including that she was a pre-menopausal woman and had been sleeping. Lundgren was presented by the defence to try and undermine the testimony of pathologgist Prof. Dan Carpenter Authentic Jersey. Gert Saayman, who said it was his opinion that Steenkamp ate much later than Pistorius says, possibly even at around 1 a.m. when the runner claims they were in bed. However, later on re-examination by chief defence lawyer Barry Roux, she said she did not agree with Saaymans assertion that Steenkamp ate at 1 a.m. or after. Pistorius lawyers also said in a statement Thursday that an offer to buy the villa where the Olympian killed Steenkamp had been accepted and the sale of the house was being processed. Pistorius is selling his home in the gated community in the South African capital Pretoria to help with his legal bills. His trial is now into its seventh week of testimony. This same allegation was made in the NFLs concussion lawsuits. In all, there were over 220 lawsuits involving 4,500 former retired NFL players. This new lawsuit, however, is different than the NFL concussion lawsuits in that the plaintiffs are targeting the team and not the NFL. There are two reasons for the timing of the lawsuit. First, these players played between 1987 and 1993. During that time, there was no collective bargaining agreement in place. This is important since the CBA provides that issues of player health and safety go to arbitration and court. Thats why the NFL went to court to try and get the players lawsuits punted and sent to arbitration (the court never had a chance to rule on that request since settlement was announced). So in this case, since there was no CBA in place when the players were playing, they can head to court without the CBA saying they have to go to arbitration. Theres also a local Missouri law that allows employees (or players) to sue employers (or teams) if the employees are declined workmans compensation. That legislation expires at the end of this year so the players may have decided now or never. One more point. The big NFL concussion lawsuits havent formally settled. You may remember that the negotiated settlement was for $765 million and would bind every retired NFL player the day the deal is approved by the Court (thats about 18,000 players). Settlement was indeed announced; however, the Court still has to approve the settlement proposal. As well, a player may opt out of the settlement and file his own lawsuit. For years, it was considered too small to handle such a big tournament and the big hitters with their modern equipment. And with soft greens from more than 6 inches of rain in the last week, the question is whether the course will yield the kind of scores rarely seen at the toughest test in golf. "Sure, we want it firm and fast," USGA vice-president Thomas OToole said Wednesday. "We happen to play a sport thats played outdoors. We received significant rain over the last week, and some tell us that well have even more significant rain tomorrow. So its not a perfect world. Its not a perfect game. But we take what were dealt with." Whether a golf course is big or small, soft greens typically are a recipe for low scores. Then again, Merion is not a typical golf course. It measures 6,996 yards on the scorecard -- the shortest of any major championship in nine years -- and has a stretch of seven holes in the middle that are short even by yesterdays standards. Compare those holes with the scorecard from when Ben Hogan won the 1950 U.S. Open at Merion, and four of those holes were actually longer by a few yards in Hogans day. Players typically reach for the wedge to chip out of the rough around the greens at the U.S. Open. At Merion, they could be hitting wedge into the green for their second shot on at least six holes. Thats what has caused all the clamour about low scores. And with the rain, its reminiscent of how Congressional was vulnerable two years ago, when Rory�McIlroy shattered U.S. Open scoring records at 16-under 268. "Ive been reading about how many scoring records are going to be broken," Nick�Watney said. "Ive been around here once. And I think thats insane. Its funny to me. "We came out and played the way we set the bar to play all season long," he said. "Overall, we had everybody playing their A game tonight. The biggest thing was the work ethic, the compete, the checking was there, everything was in place that gives you a chance to win a game tonight." McCambridge said it was crucial for the IceCaps to avoid consecutive poor showings as the playoffs draw near. "Frustrating when you see what happened last night. Is that going to happen during the course of the season? Yes. The biggest thing is you want to make sure that you dont let those run in consecutive games," he said. In 2012, this division had only two representatives in Montreal and Toronto, the latter being the eventual champion, with both the Blue Bombers and Tiger- Cats sitting at home with 6-12 records. But this time around Hamilton, which was a dismal 1-8 on the road a year ago, returned to respectability with four wins in nine away outings and an overall mark of 10-8. However, the start to the new campaign was not entirely encouraging, as the Cats won just one of five games coming out of the gate. A three-game win streak brought the group back around, as did four wins in the last five games of the regular season While he may not have been around to finish every game for the Tiger-Cats this season, the good news for the offense is that Henry Burris was one of only two quarterbacks in the league to start all 19 games for their respective clubs, and the other (Mike Reilly) failed to make the Edmonton Eskimos very good. Burris came up just 73 passing yards short of 5,000 on the season as he led the CFL in that category. He managed to complete 65.8 percent of his attempts and tie for the second-most aerial majors with 24, but at the same time hee was guilty of throwing the most interceptions (19), something the Montreal defense will have to focus on. As luck would have it, the Alouettes have one of the top pass defenders in the league this year in Geoff Tisdale who led the CFL in interceptions with seven, one of which he returned for a touchdown. While Hamilton was watching from afar last season, Montreal hosted the Argonauts in the division finals and ended up on the wrong side of a 27-20 decision, allowing Toronto to move on to the Grey Cup where it shocked Calgary, 35-22, at Rogers Centre. These teams faced each other a total of three times during the regular season, with Hamilton posting two victories, including a narrow 27-24 final in the most recent encounter two weeks ago at home. The Leafs have yet to win in the shootout this season, falling for the fourth time at TD Garden on Monday night. While they emerged from a home and home set with Boston clutching three important points � they sit sixth in the East with 38 points � theres an argument to be made that all four were there for the taking � shootout notwithstanding. The 25-year-old in goal�shouldered the weight of the shootout decision again afterward, but its increasingly�difficult to assign blame entirely his way. The fact is,�Tyler�Bozak remains the only Leaf to actually score in the shootout this season; he is now 3-4 after another successful attempt on Monday night. Collectively, Toronto shooters now�rank�third-worst�in the shootout this year (3-21, 14.3 per cent), with the 10�candidates�besides Bozak now empty in all 17 attempts. The Leafs have tried to maintain an even approach as it pertains to the shootout, but they cant help but be frustrated by the points theyve failed to snatch as a result of it. In a playoff race that will only tighten in the coming weeks, those points are all too important to keep losing. "We cant focus on the negative of losing the point tonight," Carlyle said. "We dont want to get too low on the shootouts or too high when we win�them." Five Points 1. Lost leads, missed opportunities The Leafs held a lead of 2-0 which evaporated amid a valliant Boston pushback. Joffrey�Lupul (power-play) and Nik Kulemin scored six minutes apart in the middle frame to put the Leafs in front by a�deceptively safe margin. It was less than two minutes�after the Kulemin goal that Milan�Lucic broke free of Cody�Franson and Ryan�Hamilton to score the Bruins first goal, cutting the deficit quickly in half. The Leafs proceeded to come up dry with two critical opportunities on the man advantage, one with Dennis�Seidenberg in the box towards the end of the second, another early in the third�with Patrice�Bergeron whistled off. Every time that [Kessel line is] on the ice, theyll change one D just to make sure [Charas] out there � thats part of star players in the league having to play against the best players in the league." 3. JVR Cold spell His Leafs career took off with a bang; 11 goals in the first 18 games this season. But since that point, James�van�Riemsdyk has cooled off in the goal-sniping department socring just three goals in the past 15 games and none in the past six, a season-long dry spell. "Try to stick with it," said van Riemsdyk prior to Mondays game, who also has just four assists since February 21st. "I think Ive been doing some good things and some times you just dont get the puck luck. I think Im continuing to go to the areas where you get the goals at, its just a matter of maybe getting a bounce or having a puck sit there a couple inches closer and maybe you dont hit a pipe and it goes in and things look a little different." van Riemsdyk may not be far off as far as �puck luck is concerned. Through the opening two months, the 23-year-old was firing at an inflated 17 per cent clip, far above his three-year career average of 10 per cent. In the month of March, he has dipped to about 8 per cent, meaning some leveling out is likely if his game ramps up to the level it had been previously. van Riemsdyk failed to land a shot against the Bruins on Monday�and was benched for the final 10 minutes of the third period and all of overtime. "I think JVR has got some work to do in some areas," Carlyle said of his younger winger, who still logged 18-plus minutes. "Hes been a great player for us but I think hes in a little bit of a dry spell for us right now. We need him to get his feet moving and start to create more." 4. Igniting Kulemin One shining testament to Nazem�Kadri this season has been his ability to make others better. From Matt�Frattin to Clarke�MacArthur, Kadri has helped improve the performance of every player hes played with. There is perhaps no better example of this than with Nik Kulemin. Kulemin has tallied a point in four of the five games in which he has played alongside Kadri, with three goals in that brief span. "Hes a good player," Kulemin said of Kadri, who found him open for a breakaway goal against the Bruins. "He sees the rink very well and passes it at the right time." The 26-year-old Kulemin�added of his recent return to goal-scoring prowess (now with five this season), "I think I just started shooting more and I have more opportunities to shoot because Naz has a lot of attention on him." 5. Van Riemsdyk was on edge after some taunting from the Montreal Canadiens defenceman but waited until after scoring the game-winning goal Saturday night before letting that emotion show through. It was tension that was building throughout a 5-3 Leafs victory that was a showcase for the rivalry. "Im usually not one to engage in stuff like that, but I was a little bit fired up," van Riemsdyk said. "It just kind of happened." Those are the things that happen when the juices are flowing and emotions are heightened as they were for this game between the Leafs and Habs. Of the 19,667 fans in attendance, more than a few were cheering for Montreal, and it made for a much more raucous atmosphere than usual at Air Canada Centre. "If you dont get shivers and chills on Toronto-Montreal on a Saturday night on Hockey Night in Canada, either in Montreal or Toronto, then I dont think you understand the true meaning of the game here in Canada," Leafs coach Randy Carlyle said after his teams season-high fourth consecutive victory. With the teams trading chances back and forth, it was an excellent example of what the NHL is supposed to offer. Instead, this was a case of two offences getting the job done. No one doubted his ability to put the puck in the net, as Mantha demonstrated with a hat trick in Canadas 7-2 win over Germany on Thursday. "Its a great feeling," the lanky, six-foot-four right winger said. "For me, personally, I had to get a big game going and I think thats what I did." It helped that Mantha was on a line with perhaps Canadas most dynamic playmaker in Jonathan Drouin, who assisted on all three of his goals -- two on power plays and one at even strength. But Mantha, the grandson of former NHL forward Andre Pronovost, scores wherever he plays. He had 35 goals in only 32 games with the Val dOr Foreurs before joining Team Canada two weeks ago for the run-up to the world juniors. He has 85 goals in 99 games over the last season and a half. Coach Brent Sutter said what clinched his spot was that ability to put the puck in the net, which there is not a lot of on this squad compared to past world junior teams. "He can score goals, but there are other aspects of his game he needs to continue to work on," said Sutter. "Things Ive talked to him about one on one. "Its simple. Sutter said Mantha wants to learn and feels he is already "a better player now than when he joined the team 11 days ago. That comes from our conversations. He understands that hes not going to get on the ice if hes only going to be a power-play guy." He got a passing grade in two-way play against the Germans, who were overmatched but took advantage of some early Canadian sloppiness to keep the score close through the first 15 minutes of play. Mantha has a remarkably quick release for a big man, and having the clever Drouin laying passes on his stick could be a vital asset as the tournament moves on and the competition gets tougher. He said his grandfather, who scored 109 goals in 556 NHL games from 1957 to 1968 for Montreal, Boston, Detroit and the Minnesota North Stars, was a key influence in his hockey development. He said Pronovost taught him "three key points" to success, but wont reveal them all. "One is work," he offered. But he still went into the teams selection camp two weeks ago in Toronto looking to prove he can do more than score. "For sure I had to make an impression," he said. "Not every player was guaranteed a spot and I had to battle through it. I got great news and now Im trying to carry it on."
