It was four years ago Tuesday that LeBronJames told Jim Gray at the Boys and Girls Club in Greenwich, Connecticut that he was leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers and taking his talents to South Beach to join the Miami Heat. Brandon Flowers Jersey . Four seasons, four NBA Finals appearances and two NBA titles later, another decision awaits the 29-year-old Akron, Ohio native. Opting out early from the six-year deal he signed with the Heat, James is once again a free agent with no shortage of suitors. While some clubs may be overly optimistic about their chances of attracting the four-time NBA MVP, there are a handful of teams that realistically can bring the games best player to their city...or, in the case of one team, back to its city. So which jersey will LeBronJames be wearing come this fall? The fact that James and the other two members of "The Big Three" - ChrisBosh and DwyaneWade - opted out of their deals with the Heat isnt necessarily an indicator that they want out of Florida. When a player has the leverage that all three possess and negotiated, it only makes sense to use and thats just whats happened here. By opting out, the three can all improve their deals with the Heat. Call it greed if you want, but the Heat were prepared for this development and have already begun to address it. The talk following Miamis six-game loss to the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals was that LeBron wanted Pat Riley to provide him with a better supporting cast. That began in earnest on Monday when the team brought in forwards DannyGranger and JoshMcRoberts. Point guard Shabazz Napier, a player admired by James, was acquired on draft night as a means to improve the beleaguered back court (both MarioChalmers and NorrisCole were benched during the Finals). These three additions may not have James sprinting back to the Heat yet, but LeBron himself must recognize the Catch-22 Miami finds itself in right now - James wants the team to add to quality, but his choice to opt out has negated the biggest carrot the Heat have to dangle to free agents - the chance to play with James. Still, the Heat will feel confident in being the devil that James knows. Hes won with this team and he knows the coaching staff and the players. Hes reportedly been in constant contact with Wade over the free agency process and his close friendship with the 10-time All-Star will go a long way to inform Jamess choice. While James and Wades futures may likely be entwined, Bosh is an intriguing factor when it comes to Jamess future in Miami. If one of the Big Three is most likely to leave South Beach, its Bosh. Reports surfaced on Monday that the Houston Rockets had tabled a four-year, $88 million offer to the nine-time All-Star and Bosh was seriously considering it. Its also been suggested that Boshs first choice would be to stay in Miami with James and Wade, but heading to the Rockets would give Bosh the opportunity to form a brand new Big Three with DwightHoward and JamesHarden. What would that mean for James? Bosh leaving would provide the Heat with ample cap space to bring in another marquee free agent in the form of, say, CarmeloAnthony. What better way to assuage Jamess call for support than bringing in a premier scorer whose averaged 25.3 points a game over his 10-year career? Now, whether or not there would be enough ball to go around for both James and Melo is something to be addressed for another day, but the signing of Melo would go a long way to signal the Heats continued ambition and desire to retain LeBrons services. If one calls the Heat the front-runner for James, then who else is potentially in the conversation? Daryl Morey and the Rockets are focused on their first title in 20 years - luxury tax be damned. If Bosh doesnt want to form a new Big Three in the Lone Star State, then perhaps LeBron can do it himself. DwightHoward would easily be the most talented centre that James has ever played with and JamesHarden as a No. 3 scoring is a proposition that no defence in the league wants to consider. The Los Angeles Lakers, who look more likely to be players in next seasons free agent frenzy rather than now, have $37 million committed to just five players including the aging KobeBryant and SteveNash. Still, the team seems to be interested in getting James and Melo together at the Staples Center. For this to work, one of the two would have to agree to less than a max contract, but would the allure of trying to win an NBA title with one of the leagues preeminent franchises and two future Hall of Famers in Kobe and Nash be too much for James to resist? They won 48 games last year and still managed to miss the playoffs, but the Phoenix Suns are one of the finest young teams in the NBA right now and the addition of James to a line-up that includes the dynamic EricBledsoe and, arguably, the most underrated guard in the NBA in GoranDragic could turn the Suns from a team with boundless potential to one capable of competing overnight. Oh, and theres the Cleveland Cavaliers. With the level of sheer acrimony that existed when LeBron left for Miami in 2010, the idea that James could someday return to the team he took to the 2007 NBA Finals seemed preposterous. But here we are. The disdain for LeBron from Cavaliers fans and even team owner Dan Gilbert was palpable and bridges didnt just seem burned, but nuked and the earth was salted. James is an Ohio kid. In leaving the Cavs, his intent was to win a championship. Obviously, alienating himself from Cavs fans who once idolized him was a by-product of this and some of their vitriol is understandable. Sure, LeBronJames was a free agent and only exercising his rights as a free agent to sign with the Heat, but its hard as a fan to not take your best player deciding that there better options out there as a bit of a slap in the face. They say that time heals all wounds and that seems to be the case here to some extent, but theres more to it than just that. So whats changed? Well, James left four years ago because he didnt have what he deemed to be a suitable supporting cast. In the 2010 playoffs, outside of James, DanielGibson was the only Cavaliers player 25 or under. The likes of JamarioMoon, 33-year-old AntawnJamison and a 37-year-old Shaq didnt exactly instill confidence in LeBron that this team was equipped to compete in the long run. Flash forward four years and the long run is exactly what the 2014 edition of the Cavaliers are all about. Thanks to five lottery picks in the last four years, including three first-overall selections (KyrieIrving and Canadians AnthonyBennett and Andrew Wiggins), Cleveland is stockpiled with young talent. The environment that James wanted in Cleveland four years ago exists now. But what about the anger? Fans, perhaps reticent at first, will likely come around to a return engagement, but the enmity wasnt a one-way street. While fans were furious with the player leaving, James, himself, felt that the Cavs played into the fomenting anger of the fans and all too easily allowed him to be cast as the villain in his exit. There was also the now notorious open letter to the fans (bizarrely written in comic sans) from Gilbert posted on the teams website that, in no uncertain terms, casted aspersions upon James as both a player and a person. Thats not something that somebody quickly forgives and forgets. Gilbert certainly didnt forget, which is why, after four years, the letter was finally removed from the teams site. While the summer of 2014 wont bring with it the forced and ill-advised pageantry of the Decision, the fallout of LeBrons choice four years later may dwarf that of his first one. So until we know for a fact, well continue to wonder and ask this - Where is LeBronJames headed? As always, its Your Call. United defender Rio Ferdinand was judged to have brought down Hatem Ben Arfa in the 61st minute, although replays suggested the England international had made a perfectly legal tackle. Referee Mike Jones appeared happy to award a corner but linesman John Flynn indicated a penalty should be awarded, causing several angry United players to surround the match officials. Demba Ba kept his composure to convert the spot kick after a two-minute delay, drawing Newcastle level after United striker Javier Hernandezs 49th-minute goal. "I didnt think anyone in the ground thought it was a penalty apart from the assistant referee. The referee thought it was a corner. He was nearer to it. He was only eight yards away," United manager Alex Ferguson said. "The problem is that the referees are full-time and the linesmen are not, and whether he ever gets a game again, the assistant referee, is not for me to decide but it was an absolutely shocking decision. "I know what everyones view was, including the referees. He said he thought Ferdinand touched it and won the ball and he gave a corner kick. But he let the linesman overrule him. You knew that right away. We had a situation a few weeks ago when the linesman gave a penalty kick for handball but the referee knew what to do and overruled him. Thats what the referee should have done today." Newcastle played the last 12 minutes with 10 men after Jonas Gutierrez was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Patrice Evra. Hernandez had a goal disallowed for offside in the fourth minute of stoppage time, ensuring second-place United is four points behind Manchester City and having played one match more. Tottenham won 3-1 at West Bromwich Albion to rise to third, two points behind United with one match in hand on the defending champions. Junior Seau Chargers Jersey. At Old Trafford, there had been little indication of the drama to come following an open, if slightly pedestrian, first half. Three minutes after the restart, however, United was in front following a foul by Steven Taylor on Hernandez just outside the Newcastle penalty area. Wayne Rooneys free kick hit the opposition wall and his second shot was blocked Steven Taylor, but the ball struck Hernandez and ricocheted into the back of the goal. That appeared to inspire United and the hosts started to create chances. Fullback Fabio powered forward but shot over the crossbar, then Ashley Youngs corner was helped on by Nani for Rooney to head over from six yards. But there were warning signs from the visitors. Yohan Cabayes corner was well kept in by Taylor at the far post, and Fabricio Coloccinis downward shot drew a spectacular block from goalkeeper David de Gea. Then came the contentious penalty, although United responded impressively with Rooney making room for himself before shooting over. Nani then strode away from Cabaye to cross the ball into the area. Young appeared about to score before a desperate covering tackle by Taylor. Gutierrez clumsily fouled Nani in the 78th and was sent off, having already been booked 14 minutes earlier for a foul on Hernandez. Ryan Giggs resulting free kick found Nemanja Vidic, whose header was superbly kept out by goalkeeper Tim Krul, who did even better in the 83rd minute when he used both hands to turn Patrice Evras 18-yard shot around the post. The pressure continued late into the game with Nani crossing to Young, who steadied himself before shooting against the foot of the post. Four minutes from time, Newcastle defender Danny Simpson somehow managed to clear Hernandezs header off the line. Hernandez looked to have scored the winner but the linesman waved the Mexico international offside, further infuriating manager Alex Ferguson and his players. ' ' '

The Winnipeg Jets may have to move forward without MarkScheifele for a while. Antoine Bethea . Though the Jets have not confirmed any updates to Scheifeles status, TSN Hockey Analyst AaronWard says early reports indicate he suffered an MCL injury and will likely out 6-8 weeks. Scheifele took a hit from defenceman CalvindeHaan with just under nine minutes left in the second period in the Jets 3-2 loss to the New York Islanders on Tuesday night. Reals Antoine Griezmann scored in the waning moments to cancel out Lionel Messis first-half opener but the Spanish champions still reached the domestic cup final 3-1 overall. Goalkeeper Enaut Zubikarai did his part to keep Sociedad alive at the Anoeta with several key saves but the Basque clubs attack just couldnt respond despite Carlos Vela hitting the crossbar in the 55th. Barcelona, the record 26-time cup champion, faces Madrid three years after losing to its bitter foe 1-0 in extra time in a classic final. Barcelona and Madrid go into the April 19th match having split their six previous meetings in the cup final. "Its a clasico, and theres nothing more to say," Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino said. "We were obliged to reach the final after Real Madrid ensured its place." The hosts constantly pressed Barcelona goalkeeper Jose Manuel Pinto but Messi proved the difference early on. He capped his individual run aat goal in the 27th minute by unleashing a shot between three defenders that Zubikarai got a touch to but couldnt keep from creeping over the line. Michael Wilhoite 49ers Jersey. Zubikarai was sensational after that as he denied Pedro Rodriguez, with Pinto called on to deny Vela at the other end as Dani Alves arrived to clear the loose ball at the post. Andres Iniestas outstanding second half began with a near-miss just before Vela found the crossbar. Zubikarai made back-to-back stops on Messi and Cesc Fabregas while Griezmann was unlucky on the hour mark after failing to get a shot away on a break. Barcelona had done well to subdue Reals attacks but could only watch as the hosts executed a perfect counter for French forward Griezmann to equalize with three minutes to play. Martino said Xavi Hernandezs second-half substitution was because of a knock that he hoped would not become an injury. "The fact that these players reach so many finals and still value reaching another final is a great thing," said Martino, who has already led Barcelona to the Spanish Supercup during his first season in charge. MANGARATIBA, Brazil - A hard rain was falling when Gianluigi Buffon paused for a moment during an Italy training session Tuesday. Jared Cook Rams Jersey. Leaning forward with both hands on his knees, Buffon appeared to be resting or somehow trying to withstand the rain. Or perhaps the 36-year-old goalkeeper and Italy captain was reflecting on this: He is only the third player in history to be part of five World Cup squads, along with Germany great Lothar Matthaus and former Mexico goalkeeper Antonio Carbajal. Buffon first went to the World Cup back in 1998, although he didnt play a second-choice option behind Gianluca Pagliuca. He then took over the starting position from 2002 onward. "A fifth World Cup is a nice milestone but that doesnt mean Im satisfied," Buffon said before departing for Brazil. "Both individually and as a squad were preparing to surprise people." Buffon, of course, doesnt need to prove anything at this point in his career. He was one of the driving forces behind Italys run to the 2006 World Cup title, when he didnt concede a single goal to opponents during normal play over the course of seven matches letting in only an own goal from Cristian Zaccardo and a penalty from Zinedine Zidane in the final won over France. He helped Parma to the UEFA Cup title way back in 1999 and has since won five Serie A titles with Juventus including the last three. "As the years go by, Gigi still has the same amount of desire," said midfielder Claudio Marchisio, who plays with Buffon with both Italy and Juventus. "Hes a great professional, a great friend, and a top-level player. Hes a player who is able to give his all in every moment and always offer the right words of encouragement. "There are players here who are at their first big tournament and hes always there offering the right words of advice," Marchisio added Tuesday. Now that Buffon is setting records for longevity, its worth remembering what an early start he had. Born to members of Italys national teams in athletics (his mother) and weightlifting (father), Buffons distant relative Lorenzo Buffon was also Italys goalkeeper in the 1950s. Having played in midfield as a kid, Buffon decided he wanted to be a goalkeeper after seeing Thomas NKono defend Cameroons goal during the 1990 World Cup in Italy when Buffon was 12 and years later Buffon named his first son Louis Thomas after NKono. In 1991 when Buffon was just 13, Parma purchased his rights and put him in their youth system. At 17, Buffon made his Serie A debut with Parma, keeping a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw against AC Milan. At 19, Buffon made a memorable Italy debut on a snowy pitch in Moscow during a playoff with Russia for a spot in the 1998 World Cup. Coming off a frigid bench as an injury replacement for Pagliuca, Buffon first raised eyebrows by wearing shorts in the arctic-like conditions then made a series of impressive saves in a 1-1 draw. Fast forward to 2006, when Buffon was one of the few key players to stay with Juventus when the Turin club was relegated to Serie B due to a match-fixing scandal meaning that a month after guiding Italy to the World Cup title, he was playing in small second-division stadiums. Then at the 2010 World Cup, Buffon struggled with back pain. He played only a portion of Italys opening match and the Azzurri were promptly eliminated after the first round. But he was back in place to help Italy reach the final of the 2012 European Championship. And last October, Buffon surpassed Fabio Cannavaro with an Italy-record 137th appearance. So how does Buffon keep going? "Motivation is the key," he said in a recent interview with Italian daily La Repubblica. "Reflexes diminish. At my age you dont improve anymore, so its better to reduce training and take better care of injury prevention, nutrition and gym work." Buffon has often recounted how he fell into depression about 10 years ago, then resuscitated himself by turning to literature. He has also been the subject of a couple betting scandals. In 2011, he married Czech model Alena Seredova but Buffon announced last month when Italy gathered to begin training that they had separated. In announcing their split, Buffon thanked Seredova publicly for not making things too difficult for him, and said that he hopes she will bring their two boys to watch him play in Brazil. Whether Seredova and the boys come is yet to be seen. Either way, Buffon has already inscribed his name in the World Cup record books. And who knows, maybe Buffon will continue playing and go back to Russia and the site of his Italy debut for the 2018 World Cup, when hell be 40 the same age that one of his idols, Dino Zoff, was when he helped Italy to the 1982 World Cup title. "Ill keep playing as long as I dont become a reserve," Buffon said. "Once the day comes that I get benched, thats when Ill hang my boots up." ___ Follow Andrew Dampf at http://twitter.com/asdampf Isaiah Pead Jersey . Schmidt, a Phillies TV analyst for Sunday games, retrieved Rollins bat after the milestone single to right off right-hander EdwinJackson. He greeted Rollins with a high-five and hug at first base. The entire Phillies team then came out from the dugout to offer congratulatory hugs and handshakes. Once the Phillies left the field, Schmidt took Rollins hand and held it in the air to the cheers. The pair was then given a standing ovation as fireworks erupted from the large video board in left field. The 35-year-old Rollins received a loud ovation when he came to the plate his first two times up Saturday, but he grounded out to first on the second pitch he saw in the first inning and lined out sharply to first in the second. The switch-hitter led off the fifth batting from the left side and drove Jacksons 3-1 offering sharply into right field for his record-setting hit. Johnny Hekker Jersey. . Rollins was drafted in the second round of the 1996 draft and made his debut with the Phillies on Sept. 17, 2000. He got his first hit that day, a triple off ChuckSmith, at Veterans Stadium. In 15 years with the Phillies, the 5-foot-8 shortstop has won four Gold Gloves, made three All-Star teams and was the 2007 NL MVP. He was a member of the clubs 2008 World Series championship team. Rollins already tops Philadelphias doubles list with 466, and he is in the top 10 of nearly every offensive category in club history. He entered Saturday second in extra-base hits (782), total bases (3,539), games (2,014), at-bats (8,327), and third in steals (435), runs (1,280) and triples (109). Rollins is one of 19 players in major league history with at least 400 doubles, 100 triples and 200 home runs. He is fourth all-time with 46 leadoff homers. ' ' '

ARLINGTON, Texas -- LonnieChisenhall is enjoying a big weekend in Texas, and Cleveland can finally celebrate back-to-back wins on the road. Ryan Tannehill Jersey . Chisenhall had two hits and scored twice and Indians starter JustinMasterson picked up his first road victory of the season, 3-2 over the Texas Rangers on Sunday. Starting at third base for the second straight game after five consecutive starts at first, Chisenhall singled and scored in the fifth and sixth innings. With five hits in the series, including a three-run homer off Texas ace YuDarvish in the opener, Chisenhall has raised his average to .365, highest in the majors among players with at least 150 plate appearances. The four-game set wraps up Monday. "Hes been a big part of about everything weve done," manager Terry Francona said. "Hes been in the middle of it seems like all our rallies." AdrianBeltre and AlexRios had two hits each for the injury-riddled Rangers, who learned before the game they will be without first baseman MitchMoreland for three months. Moreland needs surgery on his ailing left ankle. "It is tough," Rios said. "But the only way you can see it is to keep going. If you quit, its going to be a long season." The Indians, who started the series with the worst road record in baseball, won consecutive games away from home for the first time this season. "Were playing better defence, were pitching better," Chisenhall said. "Our situational hitting is way better than it was. Were not leaving guys on base." Masterson (4-4) gave up five hits and two runs in 5 2-3 innings after throwing seven shutout innings against Boston at home in his last start. BryanShaw pitched two scoreless innings, and CodyAllen struck out two in a perfect ninth for his sixth save. Left-hander JoeSaunders (0-2) is winless in four starts for Texas after allowing seven hits and three runs -- two earned -- with four walks in 5 1-3 innings. The Rangers got within a run in the sixth when Beltre doubled and Rios followed with a triple. Masterson kept the Indians in front by getting ChrisGimenez on a weak grounder to first, and reliever MarcRzepczynski ended the threat with a groundout from LeonysMartin. Masterson was 0-3 with a 5.73 ERA on the road coming in and hadnt won away from home since last Aug. 21 at the Los Angeles Angels. "Building off what we did last time, we made some good adjustments in between from my last start and wanted to continue those," Masterson said. "Its helped the effort level be good, to be more under control, to throw more strikes." Rios reached base for the third time on a walk in the eighth and was called safe on a steal attempt. The Indians won a replay challenge of Lance Barksdales call, ending the inning. The Rangers started the day with a majors-leading 12 players on the disabled list before finding out about Morelands upcoming surgery on an ankle thats been bothering him all season. Moreland was the replacement for PrinceFielder, whos out for the year after neck surgery. Texas couldnt even get Moreland to the DL before rookie RougnedOdor sprained his right shoulder diving headfirst back to first base on a pickoff throw by Cleveland catcher YanGomes. Odour, who was tagged out, will be re-evaluated Monday. "I dont want to seem like I dont care," manager Ron Washington said. "Ive got to focus on the games that were playing right now with the personnel I have right now. Weve been playing competitive and thats what weve got to continue to do." NOTES: DavidMurphy had two hits and a sacrifice fly to continue a strong weekend in his return to Texas after spending six-plus seasons with the Rangers. He has five hits with Mondays finale in the four-game set remaining. ... ElvisAndrus was 0 for 4 to snap a 39-game hitting streak against Cleveland. SAN JOSE, Calif. Cleveland Cavaliers Black Friday Jersey . -- Ashley Wagner is the "Almost Girl" no more. Wagner won her first title at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships on Saturday, salvaging what was an otherwise dismal night of splats and spills with a majestic rendition of "Black Swan." She finished with a score of 187.02 points and then watched as two-time champion Alissa Czisny and Agnes Zawadzki melted down. When the final results were posted, tears filled Wagners eyes and she rested a hand on the shoulder of coach John Nicks. She beamed when she climbed to the top of the podium, her smile as bright as the gold medal around her neck. "I cant even describe how happy I am," Wagner said. "Its been since the junior Grand Prix circuit since Ive been on top of a podium, and I almost forgot what it felt like. When I got up on the podium today, it was an incredible feeling and made me realize why I do this crazy sport." Czisny finished second and Zawadzki wound up third. Earlier Saturday, Meryl Davis and Charlie White claimed their fourth straight title with a performance that showed why they set the gold standard in ice dance these days. The world champions elegant and seamless routine to "Die Fledermaus" earned a total score of 191.54 points, nearly 13 better than siblings Maia and Alex Shibutani. The U.S. has been looking for someone -- anyone -- with the star power and skill to carry the Americans like Michelle Kwan did for almost a decade. The Americans have gone five years without a medal at the world championships, and they came home empty-handed from the Vancouver Olympics. For the fourth straight year, theyll have only two spots at the world championships. Its a drought the likes of which the Americans have never experienced, and the shortcomings were made all the more glaring this week by Kwans return to nationals to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Wagner has never been shy about saying she wants to be the best in the U.S., a skater who can hold her own against the Russians and the Japanese. "No ones going to say they dont want to be national champion so I think Im not being cocky, Im just saying what everyone else is thinking," Wagner said. "No one goes into nationals saying, I dont want to be a gold medallist , third place is good enough for me. Why not say what youre thinking instead of putting on an act?" But she always seemed to come up just short, finishing third in 2010 and missing a spot on the Olympic team. She also was third in 2008. Hence that "Almost Girl" nickname. Wagner had a particularly rough season last year. A head injury from when she was 13 was never treated properly, and the bones in her neck began pressing into her spinal cord, setting off "crippling body tremors." It took two hours of therapy each day with a chiropractor to correct the problem. When the season ended, Wagner decided she needed to make a radical change if she was ever going to achieve the goals she wanted. She left her family and friends on the East Coast and moved to Southern California to train with Nicks, best known as Sasha Cohens coach. "I was really nervous going out there because I felt like it was getting to the point where I wanted it so bad," Wagner said. "Then I remembered that Ive made all these changes for a reason. Ive learned so much in my time in California and I needed to use that new training. Mr. Nicks has done a great job of helping me refocus." Third after the short program, Wagner needed a spectacular performance and some help from others. She did her part, a refreshing departure after a night of lacklustre, one-dimensional performances. Wagner actually used her music and her portrayal of the "Black Swan" character was so vivid, its a wonder feathers didnt pop out of her back. Her technical elements were woven right in with her artistic elements, rather than standing alone as individual tricks, and she could have been a swan floating on the lake for how elegantly she moved across the ice. She wasnt perfect, popping a triple salchow and touching her free foot down on her triple flip. But it hardly mattered. None of the other top women skated cleanly, though some were much worse than others. Czisny got off to rough start, putting her hand down on her opening triple lutz, and things didnt improve after that. She fell on her second triple lutz and was crooked in the air on a few other jumps. She was saved by her spins, which were gorgeous as always, high component marks for her elegant presentation. "Im not really sure what to think about tonight," a subdued Czisny said. "I knew the program I put out there tonight wasnt my best, wasnt what I wanted to do. At the same time, I guess it got me where I needed to be." Zawadzki won the short program, and looked early on as she might hang onto the top spot. She opened with a double Axel-triple toe loop combination that was bigger and smoother than any other jump done any other woman did Saturday night. But Zawadzki is just 17, two years removed from winning the junior title, and she quickly became overwhelmed by the moment. "I think I started getting a little ahead of myself instead of staying in the present," she said. She fell twice, crashing on a triple lutz and a triple salchow, and popped a triple toe that was supposed to be the opening jump of a combination. She also brushed up against the boards on a triple lutz-double toe combination. She dropped all the way to seventh in the long program and barely managed to hold off Caroline Zhang for third place. "Ive never been in this position so its a different feeling for me," Zawadzki said. "Im happy with what Ive accomplished. Im a little down on the long but happy with the overall result." Wagners next challenge will be at the world championships in March. Wagner and Czisny will need to finish with a combined placement of 13 to earn the Americans to spots at next years all-important world championships, the qualifier for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi. "I was on the team that lost the spot, so I really would like to be on the team that gains that spot back. I think that would be nice to tie that back up and put an end to my mistakes," said Wagner, who was 16th in 2008. "Its time the United States makes a claim in womens figure skating, and I think we have the talent here, we have the skaters. We just need to be able to go out there and put out consistent programs with triple-triples and show people that ladies figure skating in the U.S. is not over." Golden State Warriors Black Friday Jersey . "Its time that you look at it," chief prosecutor Gerrie Nel said, setting the stage for a rigorous first day of cross-examination of Pistorius, the double-amputee Olympian charged with premeditated murder for shooting Reeva Steenkamp three times through a toilet door at his home. Washington Wizards Cyber Monday Jersey . And the Ottawa Redblacks linebacker wanted to be sure his words delivered their full effect. "Its an insult," he said over the phone Wednesday after the CFL Players Association lifted its media ban, giving its members the ability to speak openly about stalling collective bargaining talks. DALLAS -- The Mavericks and New York Knicks agreed Wednesday to a six-player trade that returns centre TysonChandler to Dallas three years after he helped win a championship only to leave right away in free agency. The Mavericks sent guards JoseCalderon, ShaneLarkin and WayneEllington and centre SamuelDalembert to the Knicks for Chandler and point guard RaymondFelton. The Knicks also get both of Dallas draft picks Thursday night, a pair of second-round selections at Nos. 34 and 51. New York didnt have a draft pick before the first major personnel move since Phil Jackson took over as team president. "The journey to build this team for the upcoming season and beyond continues," Jackson said. "We have added players with this move that will fit right in to our system while maintaining future flexibility." New York is hoping to keep CarmeloAnthony despite the star forward planning to opt out of his contract and become a free agent on July 1. The Mavericks are reportedly on a short list of new destinations Anthony will also consider. Chandler was the emotional catalyst for the DirkNowitzki-led Mavericks when they beat the Miami Heat in six games to win the franchises first title in 2011. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban made the much-debated decision not to offer him a long-term contract because of concerns over how the new labour deal would keep Dallas from making other moves. Chandler, who had a history of injuries, turned down a one-year deal worth about $20 million for the security of a four-year, $55 million contract with the Knicks. The 31-year-old Chandler is going into the final season oof that deal at $14. Phoenix Suns Black Friday Jersey. 5 million, and Felton has one year at $3.8 million with a player option for another season in the same range. Calderon just finished the first season of a four-year, $28 million contract with the Mavericks, who also signed MontaEllis to a multiyear deal last summer. It was the first time Dallas had committed to any player beyond one year since Nowitzki signed his most recent extension in 2010. Nowitzki will join Anthony in free agency, but he is expected to re-sign with the Mavericks. The Knicks are getting one of the best 3-pointer shooters and a steady hand at the point in Calderon, but he sometimes sat late in close games because he was a defensive liability. He averaged 11.4 points and shot 45 per cent from 3-point range last season. Felton is coming off a trouble-plagued season that included his arrest in February in a felony gun possession case. He was expected to plead guilty in exchange for community service and a $5,000 fine. Felton, who turns 30 on Thursday, averaged a career-low 9.7 points and saw a significant drop in his shooting percentage last season. Dalembert had an up-and-down season in the first year of a two-year deal with Dallas, while Larkin and Ellington were used sparingly. Larkin, the son of Hall of Fame shortstop Barry Larkin and a first-round pick a year ago, saw his playing time drop dramatically when DevinHarris returned from toe surgery at midseason. Harris is a free agent and wants to return to Dallas, but he would like the three-year contract he and the Mavericks agreed to last year before the toe injury scuttled the deal. Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn. Martin Demichelis Shirt .ca. We break from the Cmon Ref mailbag for a day to answer an interesting question asked of me last night @kfraserthecall on Twitter. Kerry:Whats your view on officials calling a penalty on Bryce Salvadore after watching the replay on the arena screen? It appeared there was a high stick, but it wasnt called. Fans were loud, refs watched video, then made the call. Devils coach Peter DeBoer went nuts.Steve @08008steve Steve:Thank you for providing this question. It is somewhat unusual, but certainly not impossible for a penalty to be changed following a conference held amongst the on-ice officials. Based on the reaction of Peter DeBoer, his players on the bench and commentary on both broadcast feeds, a perception in varying degrees existed that the call was changed only after the officials viewed the replay on the scoreboard in the Wells Fargo Center. We will never know for certain if the smoking gun was handed to the officials courtesy of the replay. I have a different take on the situation following the immediate support that was provided to young referee Mark Lemelin by his colleagues in a conference once it became apparent the wrong player (SteveDownie of the Flyers) was being sent to the penalty box. I believe this was going to take place irrespective of anyone who might have snuck a peak at the Jumbotron on the way to this meeting of the minds! In fairness to the young referee, his assignments are split between the AHL and NHL. Things happen much more quickly in the NHL and it can be baptism under fire once any player or official moves up to this ultimate level of the game. There is something to be learned from every game worked and experience is a great teacher. On this play the young referee correctly raised his arm for a delayed high-sticking penalty when MattRead of the Flyers clipped Bryce Salvadore on the side of the head while delivering a body check on the Devils player against the boards in front of the penalty box. Following the impact of the check, Salvadores stick came up and caught Downie in the face as the Flyer approached from the frontal position. In effect there were two high sticking infractions that occurred almost simultaneously on the same play. Lemelin however was looking through the back of Downie from a considerable distance in the end zone and did not see Salvadores stick strike the Flyer forward. Not yet all that familiar with NHL team personnel, he mistook Downie for Read in the quickness of the play and the close proximity of the three players. Once play was stopped, the ref approached Salvadore to see if any injury resulted from the "MattRead" high stick. Mistakenly, the ref then imposed the penalty to SteveDownie who was also rubbing his face and checking to see if he had all his teeth following the high stick he received from Salvadore. From the players bench side it would have been obvious to the other officials (and the teams) that it was Downie that was struck by the stick of Salvadore. Once it was announced that Downie was assessed the penalty, a quick conference was convened by the other members of the crew to straighten out the confusion. What was lost in the correction process was the initial high-stick that the young ref correctly signaled when Salvadore was struck with Reads stick. I am certain it happened in a flash and a blur in the Lemelins eye and mind. Once it was brought to his attention by the other officials that Downie took a stick in the face the young ref would question his initial take on the play and defer to the senior members of the crew. That is the most logical way that this situation played out. That being said, we often see a camera shot of a coach on the bench pointing up to a replay on the big screen when he feels the official has blown a call. In that example the coach has no problem using the replay to his benefit even though the call wont likely be changed. The officials dont skate around the ice with horse blinders on so Im not saying the temptation to peak at the Jumbotron is out of the question when they grope with getting a call right. As long as the League allows in-house replays, who could blame any of the officials if they happened to skate to the conference with their head held high - you never know whats playing at a theatre near you! Frank Lampard Jersey . It all paid off Friday night, when the Toronto right-hander earned his first victory since 2008 with an effective and emotional effort at Baltimore. McGowan allowed five hits over 6 1-3 innings, and the Blue Jays used two unearned runs to beat ChrisTillman and the Orioles 2-0. Willy Caballero . LOUIS -- Walking BillyHamilton to start the ninth inning was a bad sign for TrevorRosenthal. GRANADA, Spain -- Augusto Fernandez scored a late winner as Celta Vigo beat Granada 2-1 in the Spanish league on Friday. Celta coped with Granadas initial momentum and then took the lead in the 28th minute when midfielder Rafinho floated a cross to the far post for Gustavo Carabel to head home. Granada struck back in the 41st when Youssef El-Arabi rose high to head home a corner kick. With a draw looking likely, Celta struck on the counter with just two minutes to play. Michael Krohn-Dehlis cross into the box was deflected by goalkeeper Roberto and Augusto reached the loose ball first to poke it under Roberto for the winner. Fernandinho Manchester City Jersey. Celta moved one point ahead of Granada into 11th before the rest of the weekends 22nd round of fixtures. Barcelona faces Valencia on Saturday before joint-leader Atletico Madrid plays Real Sociedad a day later. Real Madrid, which trails the co-leaders by one point, travels to Athletic Bilbao on Sunday. LOS ANGELES -- History? Pressure? JasonCollins would have none of it after becoming the NBAs first active openly gay player. Karim Rekik Manchester City Jersey . After all, it was almost game time. "Right now Im focusing on trying to learn the plays, learning the coverages and the game plan and the assignments. So I didnt have time to really think about history," Collins said at a crowded press conference less than an hour before his Brooklyn Nets faced the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night. Collins signed a 10-day contract with the Nets earlier Sunday and played in the first half against the Lakers, grabbing a rebound and committing a couple of fouls. The 35-year-old centre revealed at the end of last season he is gay, but he was a free agent and had remained unsigned. Collins said he was aware of the magnitude of his signing, but repeatedly said he was most concerned with learning the Nets schemes. "The pressure is playing in an NBA game tonight and last time I played in an NBA game was last April," Collins said. "So I think thats enough pressure right there." With a need for another big man, the Nets turned to the 7-foot Collins, who helped them reach two NBA Finals in the early 2000s. "The decision to sign Jason was a basketball decision," general manager Billy King said in a statement. "We needed to increase our depth inside, and with his experience and size, we felt he was the right choice for a 10-day contract." Collins has played 12 NBA seasons, including his first seven with the Nets, when they were in New Jersey and JasonKidd was their point guard. Kidd is now the Nets coach and Collins has been a teammate of several other current Nets. "Jason told us that his goal was to earn another contract with an NBA team. Today, I want to commend him on achieving his goal. I know everyone in the NBA family is excited for him and proud that our league fosters an inclusive and respectful environment," Commissioner Adam Silver said. The Nets worked out Collins during the All-Star break and met with him again Sunday, with his twin brother, Jarron, hinting that history would be made. "Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday. Today should be a pretty cool day!" JarronCollins wrote on Twitter. The news on JasonCollins comes as Michael Sam, the SEC co-defensive player of the year from Missouri who recently revealed he is gay, is taking part in the NFL draft combine. Sams on-field workouts in Indianapolis are scheduled for Monday. Collins was asked if he felt the tide is turning regarding gay players coming out, including Sam. "I hope so. What Michael said was it was about him being a football player and me being a basketball player, and going out there and trying to help our respective teams win," Collins said. He played 38 games last season with Boston and Washington and averaged 1.1 points and 1.6 rebounds in limited minutes. For his career, the 7-foot Collins averages 3.6 points and 3.8 rebounds. "Im a solid veteran, and hopefully Ill be in the right place" on the court, Collins said. "I know I can execute the game plan. Its just about focusing on the task at hand and not thinking about history or anything along those lines. I just want to make it difficult for the Lakers tonight." Collins entered the game with 10:28 left in the second quarter and the Nets leading 35-26 after NickYoung made the first of his two free throws. The crowd welcomed him with a nice ovation when public address announcer Lawrence Tanter announced his name. Collins announcement last spring was followed by numerous NBA players insisting he would be welcomed in the locker room. Collins has played for five other teams and is well respected inside and outside the league -- he attended the State of the Union as a guest of first lady Michelle Obama. "I just know Jason as a person and as a player. Thats what Im happy about. He has earned it. Hes a great guy. Its good for the league. The important thing is to judge him as a person and a basketball player," Chicago coach Tom Thibodeau said. "I know people who have coached him, and I know how highly thought of he is." Former Suns player Kevin Johnson, now Sacramentos mayor, said he saw Collins two weeks ago at the White House "and I thanked him for his courage and being strong and wished him well and to keep fighting hard. "I think its incredible for him. I think its incredible for the league. If Im on the Nets, my commitment is I want to get in the playoffs and I want to go far. All that is fine but I need him to win games and I think hes up for that challenge." The Nets had an opening for a big man after trading ReggieEvans along with JasonTerry to Sacramento on Wednesday for guard MarcusThornton. King said Thursday that Collins would be among the players they would look at, insisting they wouldnt be concerned about any extra attention the signing of Collins would provide. "Were going to bring in a basketball player," King said. "Its not about marketing or anything like that." The Nets posted a photo on their Twitter account of Kidd watching Collins sign his contract, encouraging followers to retweet it to welcome Collins to Brooklyn. Collins is third in Nets history with 511 games played, and also ranks in their top 10 in minutes played, and offensive rebounds and total rebounds. A limited offensive player, the Nets hope he still provides a presence defensively and on the boards. "I know JasonCollins is a competitor. One thing I know about him is he fouls very hard," Miamis DwyaneWade said with a laugh. "Hes one of those tough veterans. Im sure hes happy to be back playing in the league. Welcome back." Since making his announcement last year, "Life is more exciting for me," Collins said. "I mean, I dont have to hide who I am and I can be my normal self. The past 10 months have been incredible. Im making new friends, hearing different peoples stories, sharing experiences. Its just been an overall positive." Collins grew up in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles and has a house here, so there was some normalcy to his day. "It was pretty easy for me just to come to the game tonight," Collins said, "drive down the 405, take the 10 and get here in 20 minutes." Bacary Sagna Manchester City Jersey . David Griffin was promoted from interim GM on Monday by owner Dan Gilbert. He says Irving was not consulted on Browns future and any insinuation that he pushed to have him fired is "patently false. James Milner Jersey . The story of the scoreless first period was Hurricanes goaltender CamWard, as the Jets outshot the Hurricanes 13-6 and had a number of grade A scoring chances, the best off the stick of BryanLittle. SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco 49ers are keeping another key member of their ball-hawking defence for the long haul. The reigning NFC champions have signed cornerback TramaineBrock to a $16 million, four-year contract extension that takes him through the 2017 season. The deal includes $7 million in guaranteed money. The Niners (6-4) announced the deal late Friday, and Brock is expected to move into the starting lineup for Monday nights game at Washington in place of the injured TarellBrown. It would be the second career start for Brock after he also started against Houston on Oct. 6. Brock has shined in an increased role this season, making a team-leading four interceptions to go with 18 tackles. "Tramaine is a great example of what hard work and dedication can lead to," 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement. "He has taken advantage of his opportunities since signing with our team as an undrafted free agent in 2010 and has certainly earned this extension. Extending the contracts of our young and talented players has always been, and will continue to be, one of our primary goals." He had 16 tackles and a forced fumble last season and shared the team lead with 15 tackles on special teams. His primary role was a special-teams standout until he has recently received more responsibility in the secondary. Javi Garcia Manchester City Jersey. . The 25-year-old Brock made two interceptions in 11 games in 2011. He signed a one-year tender in April for this season. Baalke and coach Jim Harbaugh have worked to retain their talented young players for the long haul, something they feel is essential to sustaining the franchises recent success. The 49ers talented linebacking corps of NaVorroBowman, PatrickWillis, AhmadBrooks and AldonSmith are signed long-term. Last November, Bowman received a five-year contract extension through the 2018 season, Willis is signed through 2016, Brooks through 2017 and Smith through 2015. Cornerback CarlosRogers received a $31.3 million, four-year contract in March 2012. With Brock now signed for the immediate future, the 49ers can allow ChrisCulliver -- the teams No. 3 cornerback last season -- plenty of time to recover from a season-ending knee injury suffered in August during training camp. Brown sustained a rib injury during last Sundays 23-20 loss at New Orleans. "Hes just got to be ready to play every play not knowing hes got built in breaks when were in base like he had for the first however many games he was playing," defensive co-ordinator Vic Fangio said Friday of Brock. "There is a change, but its just got to be a mental adjustment for him." ' ' '

Adam Johnson and Manuel Pellegrini may well have walked off withJanuarys BPL Player and Manager of the Month Awards, but no other club have had a better new year than Chelsea. Karim Rekik Manchester City Jersey . Seven matches played, six clean sheets, wins heaped upon wins. The copy book only blighted by an inability to deal with West Hams so termed 19th century tactics. Having just returned from spending three weeks in the city of the 2012 Summer Olympiad, much time spent within the century plus old Stamford Bridge walls, its as if the clocks have been turned back to circa 2004-05. It was Mourinhos debut season, and the little horse galloped away from the entire BPL field. Chelsea winning the title by a very distant 12 points. Most remarkably, conceding an improbable 15 goals through the 38-match season - numbers Gary Bettman apparently salivates over. Such was Chelseas dominance of the Champions for almost the entire second half they played in reverse gear. Ryan Giggs couldnt watch as he continually covered his face in his hands. He likely would have thrown in the towel if he could have found one. The only passion on display that afternoon from anyone in a red shirt came from the quite magnificent Manchester United support - 6,000 strong, and as one in their complete support for club. The true definition of what the word supporter actually means. There in the midst of yet more adversity and not once did they veer from the full encouragement, slap on the back script. Hopefully, someone at the club shot a video which David Moyes has had time to watch. If theres one man in world football who needs to fully understand the inherent value of positive body language, additionally to be classically re-conditioned it is the boy set adrift by Ferguson. Ive witnessed more sideline encouragement during the traditional park life early Sunday morning pub league football. When most are still feeling the awful side effects of a very late and mostly liquid Saturday night. The Chosen One? More like The Shrugged Shouldered One. Such was Manchester Uniteds public demise at Stamford Bridge, Sir Alex Ferguson had to slum it sat next to yesterdays soul man, Mick Hucknall. Meanwhile, Miami FCs David Beckham took pride of place over in the regal confines of Roman Abramovichs private suite. Court side seats at a Lakers game are renowned as the ultimate status symbol of the celebrity and glitteratti set. As I walked the Fulham Road streets before the match, there was more jewellery than scarves on display in London SW6. I even caught sight of a man not often associated with the jet set. England manager Roy Hodgson walking with his assistant Ray Lewington as they purposefully mingled amongst the crowd making their way to the ground. Not an air of grace about them. For Englands Brazil 2014 sakes, lets hope the WAGs will have taken notes. Next up for Chelsea was an FA Cup fourth round tie against Stoke City. Late that morning, Mata completed his 37.1m ($69m million) move to Old Trafford, Matic made his Stamford Bridge debut that afternoon. Now over my time, I have seen some monsters on a football pitch. Not all of them dressed in football shirts. Nemanja Matic is almost completely unrecognizable from the person and footballer that he was in his previous stint. He hardly got a look in then, against Stoke he hardly put a foot wrong. Oscars sublime free kick separated the sides. Matic though was the talk of the press room at full time. That was until a 51st birthday celebrating Jose Mourinho walked into the room. It was only mere minutes after it had been announced the win against Stoke set up a highly tasty fifth round encounter at the Etihad. Hours previously, the twice straight player of the year had been sold. To Manchester United of all clubs, and a transfer which had Wenger and Pelligrini going into a lather. First question to the manager? When Rafa Benitez was Chelsea manager, on his birthday he bought a cake in for the media. Wheres your cake? Not to be outdone by Rafa, the Happy One promised champagne for when next he would meet the media 48 hours later. You couldnt make this stuff up. When the subject did finally get round to Mata, Mourinho let it be known it was not his sole decision to discard the best left foot in the BPL. Only the big boss makes sole decisions. The manager made it abundantly clear it was a team decision that the 25-year old Spaniard was surplus to requirements. Weve all witnessed Oscar and Hazard on the ball. From the comfort of your sofa or bar stool, what the camera doesnt tell you though is the staggering amount of tracking back these two highly gifted players do through the course of a match. Out of possession sometimes, it seemed Oscar was so deep in his own half he was paired in defence with John Terry. Hauled off soaking wet with 10 minutes left and the Sunday evening sky darkening, one clever hack suggested the Brazilians mother had sent a text to Mourinho reminding him the fresh-faced youngster had to be at school Monday morning. There was nothing fresh-faced about Oscar, nor Mourinho, 72 hours later when Big Sams Claret and Blue Army [and Im speaking about the West Ham players] made the short hop over from Londons East end. Those gale-forced winds and pouring rain that has battered the south west of England for much of winter showed up too. Attending the match as a Chelsea supporter, with the trouble n strife [wife] in tow, we took our seats in the lower tier of the West Stand. Mercifully under cover, but such was the ferocious wind we were rain lashed for the entire 90 minutes. The action on the pitch was not one bit as exciting as a sole Chelsea fan sat directly behind us. He made more noise than the thunder - his humour hotter than the tea. As he performed all the Chelsea classics in a virtuoso solo performance worthy of any Grammy winner. For all the plaudits bestowed on Mourinho following Mondays Etihad title decider, he got it wrong against West Ham. In fact, it started with his Stoke line up when Frank Lampard captained the side and played the full 90-minutes. Lampard plays West Ham with fire in his belly and a goal in his feet. Not coincidental the best chance that evening fell to Chelseas leading goal scorer of all time in the 96th minute. But for a superb save from Adrian in the West Ham goal and Chelsea could be a magnificent seven straight wins through 2014. Matic should have started. Not as Mourinho did, only introduce him with less than 30 minutes left. Oscar struggled. Not so much with coming to grips with West Hams iron-like resolve, the conditions were so soggy and about as far removed from ball playing, he must have wished for the Copacabana. Of late, David Luiz has been spraying balls up field for Hazard to run onto. Luiz didnt leave the bench. Hazard for all his crafty guile was able to turn opponents inside out but where ever he went another West Ham player was in very close proximity. Baton down the Belgian on a windswept Stamford Bridge night they did. The Happy One, though wouldnt have swapped a moment of that 19th century like opponent for what was achieved against modern footballs shining knights, Manchester City. Hung, drawn and no Mourinho quarter given. As we get set later this month for the start of the knock out stages of the Champions League - the manner in which Etihad victory was achieved will have instilled a certain fear in Europes finest. That though is for the future. Speaking to Chelsea future, Samuel Etoo may have slayed Manchester United. The Cameroonians hier apparent is Islam Feruz. An 18-year old Somalian refugee who was signed from Celtic is currently ripping it up in Chelseas reserves. Scoring goals from all over the pitch, seemingly just for fun. Thoroughbred lightening quick, just maybe Feruz is the little horse- The Especially Happy One was referring to after Chelsea made a mockery of Manchester Citys perfect BPL home form. You can reach and follow Noel Butler at:Noel.Butler@BellMedia.ca @TheSoccerNoel on Twitter Jesus Navas . Another is a bunch of groundballs. Finally, theres a game that lasts two hours six minutes. Pavano kept up his recent surge with an efficient six-hitter for the Twins in a 4-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night. Blank Jersey . JustinUpton homered and scored the tiebreaking run on ChrisJohnsons eighth-inning single, and the Atlanta Braves beat the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 on Tuesday night to end their seven-game skid.BALTIMORE Theres something about the pitching mound at Oriole Park. After losing BrettCecil to groin tightness on Friday, the Blue Jays watched as R.A.Dickey removed himself from the game in the seventh inning on Saturday with the same problem. Dickey insisted the decision to excuse himself was as much preventative as anything else but the sight of the knuckleballer trudging off the field cast a further pall on a 3-2 loss to the Orioles. "I didnt want to jeopardize my next start," said Dickey. "I was probably out of the game after that next batter anyway so I decided it was probably in everybodys best interest to call it a day." The Blue Jays conclude their four-game set in Baltimore on Sunday and have an off-day on Monday before opening up a three-game series in New York. Dickey isnt scheduled to work again until Saturday in Cincinnati and hes hopeful the extra day will provide enough time for a full recovery. He saw a doctor after leaving the game and the diagnosis left Dickey feeling optimistic. He admitted, however, that he has never had a groin injury and therefore had no comparable to assess the degree of the problem. Meantime, AdamLind fouled a pitch off the top of his right foot in the sixth inning. He finished the at-bat against Orioles starter BudNorris, grounding out, and didnt return when his designated hitters spot came up again in the eighth. DionerNavarro took his place. X-rays were negative, its a bone bruise, but Lind was noticeably hobbling after the game. "You can see the seams," said Lind of the bruise. "I didnt have a shin guard on or a foot guard so Ill be wearing one in the near future," said Lind. "I hit it pretty good. I hit it right on the sweet spot so it wasnt a soft liner off my foot. It was a pretty good one." Lind will ice the injury on Saturday night and didnt rule out playing on Sunday, although to the observer that would seem unlikely. Offensive Struggles Torontos offensive slump continued on Saturday. While the Jays got nine hits off five Orioles pitchers, the club stranded five runners in scoring position on the afternoon. JoseBautista was thrown out at home trying to score from first base on EdwinEncarnacions one-out double in the eighth. Baltimore led 3-1 at the time. Chalk it up to a bad send by third base coach Luis Rivera, who was overaggressive in waving Bautista around, perhaps because everyone is pressing to try to generate runs. Toronto has lost six of eight games heading into Sundays series finale with the Orioles. At the time of this publishing, the Yankees were three games back of the Jays for top spot in the AL East (pending the result of their game on Saturday night in Oakland). Baltimore, in third place, closed the gap to three-and-a-half games. Left-hander J.A.Happ gets the Sunday start. The Orioles counter with right-hander ChrisTillman. McGowans First Save DustinMcGowan pitched the final inning and two-thirds of Friday nights 4-0 Blue Jays win over the Orioles, notching his first career big league save. He didnt know of his milestone, however, until after the game when JoseBautista presented him with the baseball. The Jays led 4-0 in the eighth when McGowan replaced BrrettCecil, who went down with a groin injury. Aleksandar Kolarov Manchester City Jersey. The Orioles had two runners on, meaning the tying run was in the on deck circle, qualifying McGowan for the save. "I usually do," said McGowan when told he didnt know the rules for a save. "When I came in, I was just focused on getting the batter out." McGowans first pitch came in a 1-2 count to Baltimore slugger ChrisDavis. Davis, like probably most in the ballpark, was expecting a fastball. What he got was a changeup on the outer half of the plate with plenty of movement. He flailed and struck out. "Yeah it was a good pitch," said McGowan. "It was the best pitch I could throw in that situation and luckily it worked out." McGowan had never had a save. Had he had a one-pitch strikeout before? "I dont think Ive ever had one of those either," said McGowan. "Probably the last one of those I get, too." Whats clear in his tone of voice and in his body language is McGowans at peace with his permanent move to the bullpen. He thrived in the role last season and in 11 relief appearances this year, McGowans allowed one earned run in 13 1/3 innings (0.68 ERA) while striking out eight and walking only one. Manager John Gibbons has said repeatedly he believes the life of a short man will lengthen McGowans career. "I think hes right," said McGowan. "Im recovering a lot better out of the bullpen and Im not throwing 100 pitches, which makes it a lot easier." The role suits McGowans personality, too. Hell throw his fastball at 95 miles per hour without worry. "Thats one thing you can do out of the bullpen. You can let it go," said McGowan. "When I was starting, I had to reserve some in the tank. Its fun letting it go, too. Its how Ive always been so it kind of works out good for me." Jays Fast-track Santos Return A day after manager John Gibbons indicated SergioSantos would remain with Double-A New Hampshire for a third rehabilitation appearance, Santos was back with the Blue Jays on Saturday. The reason: BrettCecil has a groin injury and while he hasnt been placed on the disabled list, Cecil wasnt available for Saturdays game against the Orioles and DustinMcGowan, who threw 1 2/3 innings on Friday evening, was available in a limited role. Outfielder DarinMastroianni was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo to make roster space for Santos. Cecil was feeling better on Saturday but wasnt sure whether he would require a trip to the disabled list. Manager John Gibbons cant have a short bench and a short bullpen at the same time so a decision will have to be made soon. "A couple of days," said Gibbons. "Were short on our roster too with a position player." Mastroianni and KevinPillar, both right-handed hitting outfielders, are inside the 10-day option window, meaning neither can return to the Blue Jays unless they replace a player whos gone on the disabled list. Pillar was part of a centerfield platoon with left-handed hitting AnthonyGose in the absence of ColbyRasmus. The absence of a dedicated fourth outfielder means Gibbons would turn to SteveTolleson to take an outfield spot in the event a late-game replacement is needed. ' ' '

EUGENE, Ore. Charles Brown Jersey . -- The Oregon Ducks opened the regular season with a 13-game winning streak. They closed it with seven straight victories. The Ducks may have stumbled in the middle, but reserve guard Jason Calliste says the Ducks still belong in the national conversation -- especially after a 64-57 victory over No. 3 Arizona in the regular-season finale Saturday. "We can be one of the best teams in the country," he said. "Doesnt matter who were playing. Doesnt matter what the name on the chest says." Calliste made the go-ahead jumper and free throw with 4:22 left and finished with 18 points for the Ducks, who trailed by as many as 12 points. "I just didnt want to lose," he said. "Wasnt time to go home yet." Johnathan Loyd added 16 points for the Ducks (22-8, 10-8 Pac-10) who greatly improved their chances of a bid in the NCAA tournament. Last season Oregon won the Pac-12 tournament and advanced all the way to the final 16. Aaron Gordon had 21 points for the Wildcats (28-3, 15-3), who had already clinched the Pac-12 regular-season title heading into next weeks conference tournament in Las Vegas. The Ducks won 13 straight to start the season and were ranked as high as No. 10, but then they lost five straight to tumble out of the poll and fall in the Pac-12 standings. The Ducks considered the game a must-win after a six-game winning streak made them a possible bubble team for the NCAA post-season and gave them their fourth straight season with at least 20 victories. As for the prospects following the victory over Arizona, Oregon coach Dana Altman wasnt going to speculate. "Im not going to worry about all that," he said. "Weve got to go to the conference tournament and weve just got to play." The Wildcats led by as many as 12 points in the first half, but Oregon closed to 31-29 at halftime. Mike Mosers 3-pointer got the Ducks to 36-34 early in the second half with a 3-pointer. A six-point run put Arizona ahead 44-36 with 11:55 left and the Wildcats held on to the lead until Joseph Youngs 3-pointer got the Ducks within 50-48 and Loyds layup tied it at 50 with five minutes left. Calliste hit a jumper and a free throw to give the Ducks a 53-51 lead with 4:22 left for their first lead since the games opening minute. Calliste and Loyd hit back-to-back 3s to stretch the lead to 59-51 and the 12,364 fans at Matthew Knight Arena were on their feet. The Ducks held on for the win and the crowd rushed the court. Arizona had won five straight since a 69-66 overtime loss to rival Arizona State on Feb. 14. "They were highly motivated," Arizona coach Sean Miller said about the Ducks. "With that, we had to play at our best and we didnt." Oregon went into the game averaging a league-best 82.9 points, while the Wildcats were holding opponents to a league-low 58.5 points. Arizona jumped out to a 9-2 lead that was snapped by Loyds steal and fast-break layup for the Ducks. The Wildcats made it 20-8 on Nick Johnsons dunk midway through the first half. Joseph Youngs layup pulled Oregon within 24-18, but Caleb Tarczewski answered with a dunk for the Wildcats. Oregon pulled to 31-29 at the half on Callistes 3-pointer with 3-seconds to go before the break. Calliste made four of five 3-point attempts in the game. Tarczewski led all players with 10 points in the first half. "Theyre fighting for a tournament berth and guys are in zones," said Johnson, who finished with 11 points for the Wildcats. "Give him (Calliste) credit, he made the shots." Mike Moser had with 10 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth straight double-double. Arizona beat Oregon 67-65 in Tucson on Feb. 6. It was Arizonas first full game without sophomore forward Brandon Ashley, who is out for the season after surgery on his right foot. Seven Oregon seniors played their final regular-season home game at Matthew Knight Arena. Stevie Brown .ca NBA Power Rankings, but there are changes among those teams in pursuit. Michael Strahan . LUCIE, Fla.DETROIT -- AlexAvilas drive sailed to deep right field, barely clearing both an outfielder and a wall. An exhilarating opening series at Comerica Park was finally over, and the Detroit catcher could look forward to some much-needed rest. "Im too tired right now," Avila said. "Im glad we have an off day (Monday). This weekend has been crazy." Avilas two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning gave the Tigers a stunning 13-12 victory over Boston on Sunday, leaving the Red Sox winless in three games under new manager Bobby Valentine. Detroit swept the season-opening series, scoring 26 runs and winning twice in its final at-bat. The Tigers trailed 10-7 on Sunday when MiguelCabrera tied the game with a three-run shot off AlfredoAceves in the ninth. Boston then scored twice in the 11th, but MarkMelancon (0-2) couldnt hold the lead. Cabrera and PrinceFielder singled with one out before a wild pitch sent Cabrera to third and DelmonYoungs sacrifice fly cut the margin in half. Avila followed with a drive to right and CodyRoss tried to make a leaping catch, but the ball appeared to hit a restraining gate just above the wall before caroming back onto the field. Avila paused near second before being waved around the bases by the umpires. The play was not reviewed. Valentine said he asked and was assured by umpires that the ball had clearly hit the railing above the fence. "You dont see those kinds of games at this level very often," Avila said. "Theres really no rhyme or reason or explanation for it." Its certainly rare for the Red Sox: They lost for the first time when scoring 12 runs or more since a 22-13 loss to the Chicago White Sox on May 31, 1970, according to STATS LLC. DuaneBelow (2-0) got one out for the win -- even though Detroit manager Jim Leyland said he wouldnt be available -- in a game that lasted 4 hours, 45 minutes. Cabrera had five RBIs. The Red Sox and New York Yankees are both off to 0-3 starts -- the first time thats happened since 1966, according to STATS LLC. Boston is without newly acquired closer AndrewBailey, who had surgery on his right thumb. Melancon and Aceves are the primary candidates to close in Baileys absence, and both blew saves on Sunday. "This is a work in progress," Valentine said. "Were three days in after losiing our closer, and were still trying to figure it out. Justin Pugh Giants Jersey. " NickPunto and DustinPedroia hit RBI singles in the 11th to give Boston the lead, but it didnt hold up. AdrianGonzalez homered earlier for the Red Sox. "Our guys played a hell of a game," Valentine said. "We had a walk-off loss on opening day, then got beat 10-0 and were down 4-0 in the first inning today -- but we fought back and took them 11 innings." Detroit beat the Red Sox 3-2 in Thursdays opener on a ninth-inning hit by AustinJackson, then cruised to a blowout Saturday. The Tigers seemed on their way to another easy win when JhonnyPeraltas three-run double in the first inning gave them a 4-0 lead, but starter MaxScherzer couldnt hold it. Scherzer allowed seven runs on eight hits in 2 2-3 innings, but Bostons ClayBuchholz wasnt much better. He allowed seven runs on eight hits in four innings in what was his first start since June because of a stress fracture in his back. Buchholz had gone 42 consecutive starts since the beginning of 2010 without allowing more than five earned runs. Detroit reliever DanielSchlereth allowed a two-run homer to Gonzalez on the first pitch he threw after coming on in the sixth. That gave Boston a 9-7 lead, and VicentePadilla pitched four scoreless innings of relief for the Red Sox after replacing Buchholz. The 34-year-old Padilla kept the powerful Detroit lineup off balance, at one point lobbing consecutive pitches of 54 and 52 mph on the stadium gun to Fielder in the seventh. Punto made it 10-7 with an RBI infield single in the ninth, but Jackson and BrennanBoesch led off the bottom of the inning with singles, and Cabrera tied it. "Weve got to get this straight: Its not about Prince and me," Cabrera said. "Weve got 25 guys, its about the Detroit Tigers, its about everybody here. We feel comfortable about everybody here so lets play ball and play hard." NOTES: The Tigers placed RHP DougFister (strained left side) on the 15-day disabled list and recalled RHP BrayanVillarreal from Triple-A Toledo, moves they announced after Saturdays game. ... Valentine went out onto the field after Gonzalez was hit by a pitch from PhilCoke in the eighth. The umpires then warned both benches, which appeared to annoy the Boston manager even more. ' ' '

ATLANTA -- Braves shortstop AndreltonSimmons wasted no time recovering from a rare two-error inning. Rob Housler Jersey . "Its a tough when your errors are a little costly, but (Aaron) Harang picked me up and kept us in the game," Simmons said. "The other guys got on base and we ended up winning, so its a good day after all." Simmons drove in four runs, Harang won his third straight start and the Atlanta Braves beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-4 Saturday for their season-high ninth straight victory. JustinUpton added a two-run homer and a third RBI for the Braves, who have won 11 of 12 and are 11 games over .500 for the first time this season. Harang (8-6) has a 3.00 ERA over his last three starts after allowing nine hits and four runs with one walk and one strikeout in eight innings. Arizona, which has dropped eight of 12, lost its 53rd game, most in the majors. Simmons had an RBI single in the first and a two-run double in the fourth. He appeared to turn his left ankle while running the bases in the sixth but stayed in the game. He drove in his fourth run with a groundout in the seventh to make it 10-4. It marked the third time in his career and second time this season that he had four RBIs in a game. Simmons has four straight games with at least two hits. The Diamondbacks went ahead 3-0 in the first on Goldschmidts RBI double, Monteros RBI single and GerardoParras RBI single. Parra got an at-bat after manager Kirk Gibson successfully challenged that AaronHill, the previous batter, was safe at first on Atlantas double-play attempt. "We had a rough first inning there, but nobody panicked," Harang said. "Our confidence is real high right now, and everybodys feeling good about how were swinging the bats and playing defence. We knew guys were comfortable up there and knew that wed stay right in it." Simmons, named last years Platinum Glove winner as the NLs best defender, had two errors in the first. Simmons began the game with six errors this year. "I told him that how you bounce back from those is whats important," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "He made some great plays defensively after that inning and also swung the bat. He kept the line moving." After Simmons cut the lead to 3-1 in the first, the Braves made it 3-2 in the third on JasonHeywards RBI single. Atlanta took a 7-3 lead with a five-run fourth off Mike Bolsinger (1-5). Tommy La Stella scored from third when B.J.Upton reached on DidiGregorius throwing error. Simmons two-run double was followed by FreddieFreemans RBI triple and Uptons sacrifice fly. Bolsinger, who had a 2.70 ERA in his previous three starts, gave up 10 hits, seven runs -- five earned -- and walked two in 3 2-3 innings. He struck out five. EnderInciarte homered in the fifth to cut the lead to 7-4, but Upton hit 17th homer, a two-run, shot off MattStites to make it 9-4 in the sixth. The Diamondbacks, plagued by injuries all season, are reeling. "When we were at our place (last month), we played these guys really good," Gibson said. "Were capable of doing that." Notes: The last time Atlanta had a nine-game winning streak was during a 12-game streak that ended last Aug. 9. ... Goldschmidt went 1 for 4 and has reached safely in 26 straight games. Hes hitting .318 with nine doubles, four homers, 12 RBIs and 28 walks during that span. ... Heyward leaped to catch Goldschmidts fly ball at the top of the right-field wall in the eighth. ... Before the game, Arizona acquired two minor leaguers, OF Zach Borenstein and RHP Joey Krehbiel from the Los Angeles Angels for LHP JoeThatcher and minor-league OF TonyCampana. ... Diamondbacks LHP EuryDelaRosa, recalled from Triple-A Reno earlier in the day, gave up three hits and one run in the seventh and eighth. ... B.J.Upton has a career-best 11-game hitting streak. Alameda Taamu . Kingsbury, from Deux-Montagnes, Que., won gold with a score of 26.93, while Bilodeau, from Montreal, took silver with 26.54. Japans Sho Endo (25.24) placed third. Darnell Dockett . Stamkos suffered a broken leg 10 weeks ago and continues to rehab in hopes of returning to the Tampa Bay Lightning lineup before the Olympic break. As a result of the positive feedback from the X-ray, Stamkos will continue to ramp up both on- and off-ice workouts.CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Russ Smiths 18-foot jumper with 2.2 seconds left gave No. 11 Louisville a 58-57 victory win over No. 7 Cincinnati on Saturday, the Cardinals sixth straight win and 10th in 11 games. Louisville (23-4, 12-2 American Athletic Conference) started the winning streak after a last-second 69-66 home loss to the Bearcats (24-4, 13-2) three weeks ago. Cincinnati fought back from a 10-point second-half deficit to take a 55-52 lead with 90 seconds remaining in the game. Freshman Troy Caupain made two free throws with 12 seconds left to give the Bearcats a 57-56 lead. Terry Rozier passed the ball to Smith, catching the notoriously stingy Cincinnati defence off guard and he made the jumper. The Cardinals tipped the inbounds pass, giving Cincinnati no opportunity to get off a shot before the buzzer sounded. Montrezl Harrell, who was just 5 of 12 from the free throw line, led the Cardinals with 21 points, Rozier had 11 and Smith finished with 10 on 3-of-10 shooting. Sean Kilpatrick had 28 points for the Bearcats, who had won 19 straight at home. Feeding off of the intensity of a sellout crowd at Fifth Third Arena, the game started fast-paced and physical in a matchup of two of the nations best defences. Louisville held Cincinnati to 6-of-31 shooting and the Bearcats limited Louisville to 8-of-30 shooting from the field in the first half. Louisville had held seven of its last 10 opponents to under 40 per cent shooting from the field, and continued that trend Saturday. Unlike in the teams first matchup in January, when Cincinnati shot 48.9 per cent, the Bearcats started 3 of 27 from the field. Louisville swarmed the Bearcats, intercepting passes, swatting away shots and forcing Cincinnati to rush itss offence. Deone Bucannon. Cincinnati missed 13 straight field goal attempts over an 8:25 scoring drought as the Cardinals built a 21-9 lead. Louisville found success by driving inside, outscoring the Bearcats 14-2 in the paint before halftime. But down 12 points with 4:41 left in the half, the Bearcats outscored Louisville 8-1 the rest of the way before halftime, capping the half with a jumper by Caupain to make it 22-19. On the Bearcats first possession of the second half, GeLawn Guyn hit a 3-pointer to tie the game. The Bearcats, fourth in the nation in scoring defence (57.4 points per game), held Louisville to just 22 first-half points. The output was the Cardinals second-lowest in a half this season, slightly higher than the 20 points they had in the first half of the teams first meeting on Jan. 30. Louisville found its touch in the second half, shooting 14 of 25 from the field and again building a 10-point lead. Cincinnatis shooting woes -- with the exception of Kilpatrick -- continued. Kilpatrick made 15 straight Cincinnati field goals in the second half, taking more than three times the number of field goal attempts (26) as any of his teammates. But Kilpatricks scoring was all Cincinnati needed. The Bearcats went ahead 52-51 on a free throw by Kilpatrick with 2:20 left. Louisvilles Luke Hancock finished with two points, fouling out with 1:40 left and his team down 52-51. Mangok Mathiang fouled out with 2:20 left and finished with four points. Kilpatrick entered the game needing 10 points to reach 2,000 for his career. Early in the second half, he reached the milestone on a drive to the basket, joining Oscar Robertson as the only players in school history to score over 2,000 points. ' ' '

TORONTO -- Canada was on the verge of elimination, two goals and just 45 minutes away from being ousted from its most important tournament, and on home turf. Jacob McQuaide . Clearly the Canadians werent willing to let it end. Trailing 2-0 to Finland at halftime, Nichelle Prince scored the game-winner as Canada roared back to win 3-2 at the FIFA U20 Womens World Cup on Friday, breathing new life into the teams hopes of advancing. "It was a great atmosphere in the locker-room (at halftime) considering the score," said coach Andrew Olivieri. "They were just really clear of the objective in the second. We had to find a way to finally put one in and then keep the pressure on." Janine Beckie and Valerie Sanderson, second-half substitutes, also scored in a thrilling final 45 minutes that Canada thoroughly dominated. Coming off a 1-0 loss to Ghana in their tournament opener, the Canadians needed at least a draw to have any hopes of moving on, but a victory looked far from certain until Beckie, who plays college soccer at Texas Tech, finally scored the teams first goal of the tournament in the 48th minute. The 19-year-old, whose older brother is former Columbus Crew defender Drew Beckie, fired a shot off the post that curled in off a Finnish defender. "Andrew (made the substitutions) to bring a little bit more energy to the game, we were in a little bit of a slump so I just wanted to come on and bring my own kind of energy and my game," Beckie said. "I scored the goal, thank god, it was a great ball in, and we were just really excited to get in there and make a difference." Sanderson, a 19-year-old who plays for the University of Memphis, pulled Canada even in the 50th when she one-timed a low cross from Prince to beat Finnish goalkeeper Vera Varis. The 19-year-old Prince, a forward at Ohio State University, scored in the 80th minute, one-timing a cross from Beckie to the delight of the noisy fans at National Soccer Stadium -- or BMO Field to its regular inhabitants, Major League Soccers Toronto FC. "It was an amazing feeling," Prince said. "We all worked hard to get back to the 2-2 tie, and we just had to push a little bit longer and get that extra goal in. I knew we were going to get it and I was happy I could be the one to score." The game drew 16,503 fans to the lakeshore stadium. A large section of Ghana fans had stuck around from their 3-0 loss to North Korea in the early game, and spontaneously broke into "O Canada." "Thats for sure the biggest crowd Ive ever played in front of, and it was just incredible," Beckie said. "To have this World Cup at home in front of a 16,000-plus stadium is just an unbelievable feeling, and for them to be behind us the whole game, even when we were down, they really helped us get that win." Canada heads to Montreal to face Finland on Tuesday in its final game of the preliminary round. The Canadians need to finish top two in Group A to advance to the quarter-finals of the tournament, which is a test run for the Womens World Cup next year in Canada. Juliette Kemppi scored both goals for Finland, opening the scoring in the ninth minute with a header of a corner kick. Kemppi doubled Finlands lead in the 21st, capitalizing on a poor clearing effort by Canada. Sura Yekka, who made her national senior debut almost a year ago, passed the ball inside straight to the foot of Kemppi, who launched a shot past Canadian goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan. Canadas keeper said, despite the halftime score, she was confident her team could turn it around. "We had a long talk about this before the game, it was really important for us to get goals, and (the strikers) were determined, I knew they were determined," Sheridan said. "They had so much grit and so much power in them, I was just so happy when that first goal went in, I knew we were going to get ahead." Finland had opened the tournament with a 2-1 loss to North Korea, which is undefeated in two games to lead Group A. Canadas best finish at this tournament was in 2002 -- a loss to the United States in the gold-medal game in Edmonton in an event that launched the international careers of Christine Sinclair and Kara Lang, among others. The Canadians had several other decent scoring chances Friday, including a couple from Jessie Fleming. The 16-year-old had a long floating shot that bounced off the crossbar midway through the first half, then fired a low shot that Varis had to dive for a few minutes later. Emma Fletcher fired a long volley off a cross from Prince that would have been a beautiful goal had it not soared just wide of the net. The Canadians know theyre in tough in against North Korea. "Theyre the third best in the world in youth programs," Olivieri said. "We know we need to play better than we did tonight, even though there was some good stuff, some bright moments, and were going to have to play 90 minutes of quality football against North Korea just to get a result." The Group A winner will play its quarter-final in Toronto, while second place in the group will head to Edmonton for the quarters. The tournament semifinals are in Montreal and Moncton, N.B., while Montreal hosts the gold-medal game. Earlier in the day, Ri Un-Sim scored twice as North Korea blanked Ghana 3-0 to take sole possession of top spot in Group A. Jo Son-Yon also scored a stoppage-time penalty for North Korea (2-0-0), which will face Canada on Aug. 12. In Group B play, Sara Daebritz and Theresa Panfil each scored twice as Germany and China battled to a 5-5 draw. Pauline Bremer added the other for the Germans (1-1-0), while Zhu Beiyan led China (0-2-0) with a pair of goals and Jiali Tang, Zang Chen and Lei Jiahui each scored once. Also, Lindsey Horan scored once to lead the United States to a 1-0 victory over Brazil. The Americans are 1-0-1, while Brazil is 0-1-1. Trumaine Johnson Rams Jersey . In the eyes of Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, the two-time defending NBA champions pretty much botched the whole thing. Case Keenum Rams Jersey . The Desert Foxes took part in the 2010 World Cup and failed to advance past the group stage, and the African side figures to have a tough time reaching the last 16 this time around as well. Belgiums last appearance on the big stage was the 2002 tournament when the team reached the second round before bowing out to eventual champions Brazil. INDIANAPOLIS -- The Colts have agreed to a new contract with defensive end FiliMoala -- less than 24 hours before he was set to hit free agency. Earlier Monday, Indy re-signed linebacker JustinHickman and promoted quality control assistant Brad White to assistant linebackers coach. Moala was the Colts second-round pick in 2009 and matched a career high with 226 tackles last season. E.J. Gaines Jersey. He also had 1 1/2 sacks and recovered one fumble. Hickman was an exclusive rights free agent and could not be signed by another team. Indy signed Hickman out of the Canadian Football League in 2012. He had 14 tackles in 12 games that season before missing all of 2013 after going on injured reserve during training camp. ' ' '
