OAKLAND, Calif. Steve Weatherford Giants Jersey . -- Free-agent left-hander ScottKazmir agreed to terms on a $22 million, two-year contract with the Oakland Athletics on Monday, a person with knowledge of the negotiations said. The deal is pending a physical. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team hadnt finalized the deal or formally announced interest in Kazmir. Also Monday, the As reached agreement on a one-year contract with right-hander FernandoRodriguez. He was one of nine arbitration eligible players -- and all were tendered contracts for the 2014 season, including first baseman DaricBarton. Barton is the teams longest-tenured player and will provide infield depth. The 29-year-old Kazmir went 10-9 with a 4.04 ERA in 29 starts and 158 innings last season for the Cleveland Indians. It marked his return to the big leagues for the first time since making one poor outing for the Angels in 2011, which followed a 9-15 performance in 2010 for Los Angeles. With the pending acquisition of Kazmir, the As have filled a rotation spot with a veteran starter as they had hoped to do. That means the two-time defending AL West champions wont necessarily continue to pursue a new deal for 40-year-old 18-game winner BartoloColon. Kazmir will join a rotation featuring SonnyGray and A.J.Griffin. General manager Billy Beane said after the season he was hopeful of re-signing Colon after he received a $3 million, one-year contract and bounced back from 2012, when his season ended in August because of a 50-game suspension for a positive testosterone test. Rodriguez was acquired in a trade with Houston last February that also brought JedLowrie to the As in exchange for ChrisCarter, BradPeacock and MaxStassi. Rodriguez missed the season after undergoing right elbow reconstruction surgery March 27. He is 4-13 with a 4.89 ERA in 119 career relief appearances with the Los Angeles Angels and Astros. The other arbitration-eligible players tendered contracts by Mondays deadline were outfielders JoshReddick and SethSmith, infielders BrandonMoss and JedLowrie, relief pitchers JerryBlevins and JesseChavez, and catcher JohnJaso. Justin Pugh Giants Jersey . The pitchers agent, Bob Garber, confirmed the decision and said Oswalt would go to work for his agency, RMG Baseball. Oswalt will be vice-president of baseball operations. Mathias Kiwanuka Jersey . They had already blown a double-digit lead, fans were hitting the exits, and a long seven-game road trip waited at the end.LOS ANGELES -- BlakeGriffin had 20 points and 11 rebounds during three thunderous quarters by the Los Angeles Clippers, who routed the Lakers again 142-94 Thursday night to extend their winning streak to a season-best six games. It was the most lopsided loss in Lakers history. DarrenCollison had a team-high 24 points while starting at shooting guard for the injured JamalCrawford. ChrisPaul added 13 points and 11 assists for the Clippers, who apparently are trying to make up for decades of humiliation at the hands of the Lakers all in one season; theyve won the last two meetings by a combined 84 points. This was the Clippers largest victory margin over their longtime tormentors, and their sixth victory in the last seven meetings -- including a four-game sweep last season. The last time the teams met on Jan. 10, the Clips won 123-87. The Clippers are 35-98 against the Lakers since moving to Los Angeles from San Diego for the 1984-85 season, including 19-39 during their 15 seasons at Staples Center. PauGasol had 21 points for the Lakers, the home team for the third of four meetings this season between the Staples Center co-tenants. They also faced each other in the season opener, which the Lakers won 116-103. The Clippers had a 64-33 rebounding advantage and increased their lead in the Pacific Division to 4 1-2 games over Golden State. Theyre 21 1-2 ahead of the last-place Lakers (21-441). Mark Herzlich Giants Jersey. The Lakers are one defeat away from clinching the franchises first losing season since 2004-05 -- when newly hired coach Rudy Tomjanovich resigned midway through the teams 34-48 season. This one reached blowout proportions early. The Clippers stormed to a 73-40 halftime lead with the help of a 21-1. The arena started emptying after the third quarter ended 109-60. Griffin notched his 36th double-double and is riding a career-best streak of 21 games with 20 or more points. Crawford (left calf strain) sat out for the third straight game. Forward JaredDudley (back spasms) missed his first of the season. JordanHill didnt play for the Lakers because of a sore right knee. NOTES: Renowned sports medicine specialist Dr. Frank Jobe, who died Thursday at age 88, was a consultant for many years with the Lakers in addition to his groundbreaking work with his innovative Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery. ... Griffin is averaging 21.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 51.5 per cent from the field in 14 career games against the Lakers; the Clippers have won eight of them. ... DannyGranger, playing his second game with the Clippers after signing as a free agent last Friday, picked up his first three fouls during a 2 1-2 minute span early in the second quarter. He finished with 10 points in 19 minutes. ... The season series concludes on April 6 with a nationally televised matinee. ' ' '

CHICAGO -- GioGonzalez delivered another dominant performance, providing more evidence he is finally healthy again. Chicago Bulls Black Friday Jersey . It looks as if the shoulder problem that sidelined him for a month bothered the left-hander about as much as the opposing hitters. Gonzalez pitched two-hit ball over seven innings, and the Washington Nationals beat the Chicago Cubs 3-0 Saturday in the first game of a day-night doubleheader. Gonzalez had his way with one of the weakest lineups in the majors in his third start back from the disabled list, outperforming Dallas Beeler in the rightys major league debut. "Obviously coming (off) the DL and trying to work your way back is going to be a process," Gonzalez said. "Its not going to happen overnight. Its good to see little by little using fastball and changeup at the same time. Its good to know when you need them theyll be there." AnthonyRendon had three hits, including a two-out double against Beeler in the sixth before scoring the games first run on a wild pitch. He added an RBI triple off JustinGrimm and came home on a sacrifice fly by AdamLaRoche against WesleyWright in a two-run eighth. DenardSpan chipped in with two hits and scored a run. He also made a leaping catch in front of the centre-field wall after getting turned around on a drive by JustinRuggiano in the fourth, and the Nationals snapped a three-game losing streak. Gonzalez (5-4) had little trouble against a team that came in with the majors second-worst batting average. He struck out seven and walked two while improving 2-0 in three starts after missing a month because of inflammation in his pitching shoulder. He shut down Chicago after throwing six effective innings in a 3-0 win at Milwaukee on Monday. TylerClippard worked the eighth and RafaelSoriano finished for his 19th save in 21 chances. As for Beeler, he was about as good as Gonzalez. Called up from Triple-A Iowa as the 26th man, he pitched four-hit ball while allowing an unearned run in six innings. "I was a lot calmer than what I thought Id be," he said. "I walked out there, took a deep breath, threw my warmup pitches, kind of looked around again, exhaled and I was like, All right, same game Ive been playing for the last 20 years." Beeler also singled in his first at-bat when he lined the first pitch he saw up the middle in the third, drawing big cheers from the crowd. Neither team got an extra-base hit until Rendon doubled to left in the sixth. He moved up on a passed ball by JohnBaker before RyanZimmerman walked, and he scored the games first run when Beeler bounced a changeup to LaRoche. Otherwise, it was quite a debut for the rookie. "He was commanding his pitches," Rendon said. "Sinker and cutter and a pretty good curveball out there." NOTES: The Nationals remain optimistic that OF BryceHarper will return from a torn ligament in his left thumb early in the week, if not Monday. The 2012 NL Rookie of the Year, who was injured sliding head first into third in a game against San Diego in April, has been rehabbing in the minors. "Hes progressing really well," manager Matt Williams said. "I feel good at some point this coming week (he will return), Monday is a possibility." ... Washington recalled Game 2 starter BlakeTreinen and reliever XavierCedeno from Triple-A Syracuse while optioning RHP Taylor Hill to the minor league club. ... Chicago OF JuniorLake was back in the lineup for Game 1 after sitting out Friday. He slid hard into a metal door in the outfield wall and left Thursdays game. ... Cleveland Cavaliers Cyber Monday Jersey . -- ChampBailey finally gets a chance to live up to his name.ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Cleveland Indians made their first visit this season to Angel Stadium and found an old friend in the closers role for the other team -- JoeSmith. The right-hander, who spent the previous five seasons with the Indians, got three outs in the ninth inning to preserve a 6-3 victory for Los Angeles on Monday night for his first save with the Angels. His role changed after a series of poor outings by ErnestoFrieri. "I dont think your attitude changes," Smith said. "I mean, if youre coming on in the seventh or eighth inning, the goal is the same: get out of the inning with a zero and hand the ball off to the next guy. Now, the goal is to get out of the inning with a zero and slap hands. It doesnt matter what inning Im throwing. I pitch people the same." Smith retired CarlosSantana on a foul pop behind the plate, then gave up a single to pinch-hitter DavidMurphy before retiring MichaelBrantley on a fielders choice grounder and AsdrubalCabrera on a line drove to centre field. "When hes on your team, hes easy to root for," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "Im one of his biggest fans -- and I only had the opportunity to have him for one year. For the guys who were around him longer than that, I can see why they like him so much. Hes a pros pro. I remember a conversation I had with Smitty when he was going through free agency, and I remember telling him flat out: We want you back so bad. But if we dont get you back, I hope you break the bank." Smith, who signed a three-year, $15.75 million contract in November, was the setup man last year for the Tribe and got three saves along the way. "Joe could be successful anywhere they put him," Francona said. FernandoSalas (2-0) pitched a hitless eighth inning and got credit for the victory after the Angels broke a 3-all tie in the bottom half with an RBI single by MikeTrout and a two-run triple by RaulIbanez against JustinMasterson (0-1). Masterson gave up six runs and seven hits in 7 1-3 innings after getting a no-decision in each of his first five starts. The right-hander hasnt posted a victory since beating the Angells 3-1 last Aug. Golden State Warriors Black Friday Jersey. 21 at the "Big A." NickSwisher misplayed J.B.Shucks leadoff grounder to first base in the eighth for an error, and ErickAybar bunted Shuck to second before Trout singled to left on a full-count pitch to snap a 3-all tie. AlbertPujols was walked intentionally in front of Ibanez, who capped the scoring with his triple to right-centre on Mastersons 113th and final pitch. TylerSkaggs allowed three runs and four hits in seven innings and struck out six. The left-hander, staked to a 1-0 lead on Pujols RBI groundout in the first, retired his first 10 batters before giving up a double by Swisher, a walk to JasonKipnis and Santanas second homer of the season into the left field bullpen. "Tyler hung a curveball to Santana, but other than that, he threw the ball awesome," Smith said. "If our starters go seven and give up three every time, thats great. Keep it rolling. It only makes it easier on us -- especially with this offence." Santana, the Indians switch-hitting third baseman, came in batting .122 over his first 24 games and was 3 for 22 with men in scoring position. But Francona said before the game that he wasnt ready to drop Santana out of the cleanup spot, where he has been in every game hes played. The Angels tied it in the fifth on a two-out, two-run double down the right field line by Aybar after Masterson issued a leadoff walk to IanStewart and a single by DavidFreese. Stewart started at third base while Freese was the designated hitter on his 31st birthday. The Indians, who had just gotten swept in a series at San Francisco, were 2 for 20 with runners in scoring position during that three-game set and totalled just five runs -- while their 4-5-6 hitters were a combined 0 for 29. NOTES: The Angels flight from New York didnt get in until 5:15 a.m. local time after a 3-2 loss at Yankee Stadium on Sunday that ended their 4-5 road trip. "I wish they played 20 innings," Francona said. ... Angels LF JoshHamilton had his cast taken off Monday and is wearing a splint, the next step toward beginning his strength exercises and resuming baseball activities. ' ' '

Sochi, Russia (SportsNetwork. Coby Fleener Womens Elite Jersey .com) - There was clearly no looking ahead for the U.S. womens hockey team. The Americans accounted for the first 26 shots in their semifinal against Sweden and rolled to a 6-1 victory, earning a spot in the gold medal game on Thursday against either Canada or Switzerland. Alex Carpenter, Kacey Bellamy and Amanda Kessel scored to stake the Americans to a 3-0 lead before the Swedes even registered a shot against U.S. goaltender Jessie Vetter late in the opening period. The United States outshot Sweden by a whopping 70-9 count in the rout. Monique Lamoureux, Megan Bozek and Brianna Decker also scored for the Americans, who havent won gold since womens hockey made its Olympic debut at the 1998 Games in Nagano. Sweden has just one victory in 28 meetings with the U.S., but it was a big win -- a 3-2 shootout triumph in the 2006 Olympic semifinals. The Americans gained a measure of revenge four years later with a 9-1 rout of the Swedes in the 2010 Olympic semis. Anna Borgqvist was credited with the lone goal for Sweden late in the contest, spoiling Vetters shutout bid. Vetter finished with just eight saves. Valentina Wallner started in net for Sweden and was pulled after yielding five goals on 47 shots. Kim Martin Hasson turned aside all but one of the 23 shots she faced in relief, including a penalty shot by Jocelyne Lamoureux late in the third. The Americans grabbed a 1-0 lead on a power play. Kelli Stack carried the puck through the offensive zone along the right wing and circled behind the net before firing a pass into the slot for Carpenter, whose shot was headed wide but deflected off the skate of a Swedish defender and slid into the net. Bellamy increased the advantage just 1:06 later when a blast from the left point eluded a screened Wallner, and Kessel chipped in a rebound from the left side of the crease with 8:41 remaining in the period to make it 3-0. The Swedes took a timeout after the third goal and had a couple of chances on the power play late in the period, but managed just one harmless shot. An interference penalty on Swedens Pernilla Winberg early in the second period led to Monique Lamoureuxs power-play goal, and Bozeks point blast slid under Wallner with 7:43 left in the second for a 5-0 cushion. Wallner was pulled soon after. The Swedes finally snuck a shot past Vetter, as Borgqvist deflected an Emma Eliasson point shot into the back of the net with 6:56 remaining. The Americans had a hard time beating Martin Hasson, who made a nice pad save on Jocelyne Lamoureuxs penalty shot attempt. Lamoureux tried a spin move in front of the crease and Hasson kept the right pad extended to turn aside the backhand attempt. Martin Hasson finally yielded a goal with 3:02 to play when Deckers shot from the slot rang off the crossbar and Swedish defenseman Emilia Andersson inadvertently kicked it into her own net.DQwell Jackson Womens Elite Jersey . The delighted Vancouver Whitecaps coach was "lost for words" after his club scored three goals in the first 20 minutes en route to a 3-2 win over the San Jose Earthquakes. The Whitecaps (3-2-4) earned their first win in five games while the Earthquakes fell to 1-3-3. The game commemorated the first ever contest between Vancouver and San Jose, which was played May 5, 1974 when both teams were part of the original North American Soccer League. "I challenged them at the start of the game because it was a fantastic occasion today for the club and the tradition of the club," said Robinson. "I didnt want them to start slow where we have been in a few recent games." Despite the close score, the Whitecaps prevailed relatively easily after being forced to stage late comebacks in dramatic draws with Real Salt Lake and Los Angeles in their previous two games. Pedro Morales scored two goals a minute apart, with the first coming on a penalty-kick in the 19th minute and the second resulting from a shot from about 20 yards out in the 20th minute. "We got off to a great start, the team played very well, it was very exciting for the fan and we created a lot of (scoring) opportunities," said Morales. Kekuta Manneh also scored a goal and furnished an assist for Vancouver. "It was a big occasion for the club," said Manneh. "We all talked about it before the game and we had to come out and win the game. We were not that worried about the occasion, but weve got to do our job, and we did that, so it was great "We learned from our previous games." Chris Wondolowski, on a penalty-kick in the 45th minute and a lucky bounce in second-half stoppage time, scored both San Jose goals. "We did not come out with a good mindset," said Wondolowski. "Going down 3-0 against a very quality team, its way too big a hole to climb out of. We didnt do things right." Many fans wore 1970s-era clothing, including colourful bell-bottom pants that would make Norwegian curler Thomas Ulsruds crew envious, and donned long-haired wigs, fake handlebar moustaches and sunglasses. The attire was part of the Whitecaps tribute to the days of disco music. Whitecaps captain Jay DeMerit started after being kept home from the previous weekends road game against San Jose for rest purposes. Meanwhile, Vancouver striker Kenny Miller began the game on the bench before coming on in the second half, as Robinson used a 4-2-3-1 alignment with Darren Mattocks deployed as the lone forward. As a result, Manneh, who has been used mostly as a substitute, started in midfield in a move that paid early dividends. Manneh gave the Whitecaps a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute as he fired a first shot off the near post and then put his own rebound in off the far post. Crediting Morales passing prowess, Robinson said he did not have to say too much to his players about starting well after he had chewed them out at half-timme in the previous game. Youth Blue Andrew Luck Elite Jersey. "Obviously, after the reaction at Salt Lake at half-time, they got back in character," he said. Mannehs goal came after DeMerit checked the ball away from charging San Jose forward Yannick Djalo and sent the ball up the left flank. With Djalo injured in the process and kneeling on the turf, the Whitecaps were able to capitalize on an odd-man situation. "As soon a Yannick went down they scored the first goal. It was just 10 minutes where we couldnt cope with them," said Earthquakes coach Mark Watson. Morales put the Whitecaps ahead 2-0 on a penalty-kick after Mattocks was deemed to have been taken down while deking with the ball in the San Jose box. With the sellout crowd of 21,000 standing in anticipation, Morales rolled a shot into the left corner after San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch elected to go to his right. A minute later, Morales notched his second goal as he put a shot into the same corner from just outside the top of the San Jose box. After scoring the goal, Morales unwittingly doffed his jersey, waved it over his head, and excitedly ran bare-chested to the bench -- only to get an automatic yellow card for excessive celebration. Vancouver lost a shining Mattocks in the 30th minute after he pulled up with what Robinson described as a hamstring injury. Mattocks was replaced by second-year pro Erik Hurtado, but the change had little effect as Vancouver finished with 17 shots, including 13 in the first half, including nine on target. San Jose put just four of seven total shots on Vancouver goalkeeper David Ousted, who was still sharp when necessary as the Caps continued mastery over a traditional powerhouse. The Earthquakes have yet to win in Vancouver in nine all-time MLS meetings with the Whitecaps. Overall, Vancouver holds a 4-1-4 edge in the series. Wondolowski, who now has nine career goals against Vancouver, was less than satisfied with the comeback attempt. He admitted his second goal, which redirected off DeMerit, was fortuitous after he did not get much behind the shot. "(The late rally) was too little, too late," said Wondolowski. "We cant be doing that. a This loss is unacceptable." Notes: San Joses Djalo was replaced by Alan Gordon in the 14th minute. a The Whitecaps had a goal disallowed in the 81st minute as Gershon Koffie was found guilty of a hand-ball just before he scored. a Whitecaps president Bobby Lenarduzzi became the first inductee into the clubs new ring of honour. During a pre-game ceremony, Los Angeles Lakers star Steve Nash, a Whitecaps minority owner, presented Lenarduzzi with a ring in conjunction with the honour. Nash jokingly dropped to one knee, like a hopeful groom proposing. a Lenarduzzi played on the original Whitecaps team, which was also honoured in the pre-game festivities, with many members taking part. a Gordon was cautioned in the 70th minute after he knocked Matias Laba in the back while the Cap played a header. a Former Whitecap Atiba Harris subbed in for San Jose during the second half. TAMPA, Fla. Arian Foster Elite Womens Jersey . - The Tampa Bay Rays couldnt resist adding GrantBalfour to solidify the back end of their bullpen, giving the closer a $12 million, two-year contract Thursday about a month after his $15 million agreement with Baltimore fell through. The Orioles said they had concerns with his physical. Balfour proclaimed hes healthy and looking forward to helping Tampa Bay get back to the playoffs. "Im 100 per cent healthy," Balfour said, adding he had more lucrative offers from other teams but was eager to play for a perennial contender and return to the Tampa Bay area, where he still resides after spending time with the Rays from 2007-10. "Ive had an eventful off-season to say the least," he said. "Its always been a place on my radar. Ill be honest, I never wanted to leave here." Rays principal owner Stuart Sternberg made the announcement at a news conference held following a team sponsorship event at the Tampa Museum of Art. He called it a significant move for the budget-minded Rays, who have made the playoffs four times in the past six seasons despite one of the lowest payrolls in baseball. Sternberg noted the team did not enter the off-season expecting to be in a position to pursue the 36-year-old, who was 62 for 67 in save opportunities the past two seasons with the Oakland Athletics. "Weve have had some exceptional teams," Sternberg said, explaining the decision to spend above the teams projected payroll. "We want to give this organization the best chance to win, and we know its going to cost us more than we can afford to pay." In his first stint with the Rays, Balfour was part of an improbable run to the 2008 World Series, where Tampa Bay lost to Philadelphia in six games. Sternberg called him a "known quantity" for the Rays. Manager Joe Maddon added the signing will make an already impressive bullpen even more formidable. "He wants to go back to the World Series," Maddon said. "So do we, so do I." Balfour was a first-time All-Star in 2013, when he had a 1.63 ERA while going 25 for 25 in save opportunities the first half of the season. The right-handers 383 appearances, 380 1-3 innings and 410 strikeouts over the past six years are the second-most among AL relievers. Hes first Australian-born pitcher to make an All-Star team and has been a part of five teams that made the playoffs, including two with Tampa Bay. "I want to win a World Series," he said. "We got really close here in 2008, and Im really hoping here in the next two years, or whatever it is I get to play here, that I can win one it would be awesome." CINCINNATI, Ohio -- JohnnyCueto missed the beginning of the season with an injury. Kareem Jackson Elite Womens Jersey . Now hes hurt again. The major league ERA leader left the Cincinnati Reds 7-2 win over the Chicago Cubs after 3 2-3 innings Wednesday night because of a strained muscle in the upper right side of his back. "I wanted to stay in but it was sore and painful," Cueto said. "I hope I dont have to miss an outing after Im examined tomorrow." RamonHernandez hit a three-run homer in the second inning to back Cueto, who lowered his ERA to 2.31. Cueto was visited by a trainer and pitching coach BryanPrice with one out in the fourth inning. After getting AlfonsoSoriano to pop out, trainer Steve Bauman and Dusty Baker went to the mound. "I felt it pop on the pitch to Soriano," Cueto said. Baker then removed Cueto. ""He said he felt OK, but then threw a 94 mph pitch to Soriano, but I saw him grimace," the manager said. "He didnt want to come out, but we want to do whats best for him in the long run." Cueto, who allowed three hits, didnt make his first start of the season until May 8 because of irritation in his right upper arm. He is six innings short of qualifying for the ERA title and is just behind of the Los Angeles Dodgers ClaytonKershaw, who has a 2.30 ERA. Baker said the injury was a strained latissimus dorsi muscle. "If it was in the joint I would be something different," Baker said. "Hopefully he can get two more starts." Inheriting a 5-0 lead, SamLeCure (1-1) pitched 2 1-3 innings for the win. He allowed a pair of sixth-inning runs when CarlosPena hit an RBI double and scored on AlfonsoSorianos groundout. CaseyColeman (2-8) gave up six runs, six hits and three walks in 3 2-3 innings. Since winning at Florida on May 19, he is 0-5 with a 7.98 ERA in eight big league starts and two relief appearances, a span that included three trips to the minor leagues. "I didnt have command," Coleman said. "I felt like I didnt know how to pitch. I had a base open with (Juan) Francisco up. Ive faced him in the minor leagues and he hit me pretty good. Ive got to be able to pitch around him there." Francisco hit a two-run single for a 5-0 lead in the third. The third baseman also turned in a defensive gem, throwing out MarlonByrd out from foul territory in the ninth inning. "You practice that every day," Francisco said. "I watch ScottRolen who has seven or eight Gold Gloves." Hernandezs 12th homer of the season but first since Aug. 5 put Cincinnati ahead. LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has pulled his support from a deal to sell the team to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and will pursue his $1 billion federal lawsuit against the NBA, his attorney said Monday. Luke Kuechly Youth Grey Jersey . "We have been instructed to prosecute the lawsuit," said attorney Maxwell Blecher. He said co-owner Donald Sterling would not be signing off on the deal to sell. Donald Sterling issued a one-page statement dated Monday titled "The Team is not for Sale" and said that "from the onset, I did not want to sell the Los Angeles Clippers." The $2 billion sale was negotiated by his wife Shelly Sterling after Donald Sterlings racist remarks to a girlfriend were publicized and the NBA moved to oust him as owner. The lawsuit alleges the league violated his constitutional rights by relying on information from an "illegal" recording that publicized racist remarks he made to a girlfriend. It also said the league committed a breach of contract by fining Sterling $2.5 million and that it violated antitrust laws by trying to force a sale. "I have decided that I must fight to protect my rights," Donald Sterling said. "While my position may not be popular, I believe that my rights to privacy and the preservation of my rights to due process should not be trampled. I love the team and have dedicated 33 years of my life to the organization. I intend to fight to keep the team." Donald Sterling had agreed to ink the deal and drop the suit last week assuming "all their differences had been resolved," his attorneys said. But individuals close to the negotiations who werent authorized to speak publicly said he decided to not sign the papers after learning the NBA wont revoke its lifetime ban and fine. "There was never a discussion involving the NBA in which we would modify Mr. Sterlings penalty in any way whatsoever. Any suggestion otherwise is complete fabrication," NBA spokesman Mike Bass said. Shelly Sterling and her attorney Pierce ODonnell declined to comment through representatives. Shelly Sterling utilized her authority as sole trustee of The Sterling Family Trust, which owns the Clippers, to take bids for the team and ultimately negotiate a deal with Ballmer. The deal would be record-breaking if approved by the NBAs owners. An individual familiar with the negotiations who wasnt authorized to speak publicly said Monday that there were two options for Donald Sterling -- to either sign or go to court. But even if he wins in court, hes ultimately winning a judgment against himself because his wife Shelly Sterling has agreed to indemnify the NBA against all lawsuits, including by her husband, the individual said. Donald Sterlings comments to V. Stiviano included telling her to not bring black people to Clippers games, specifically mentioning Hall of Famer Magic Johnson. They resulted in a storm of outrage from the public and players and even prompted President Barack Obama to comment on what he called Sterlings "incredibly offensive racist statements." Donald Sterling said in his statement that he was "extremely sorry for the hurtful statements" he made privately but said them out of anger and jealousy and didnt intend for them to be public. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver ultimately decided to ban Donald Sterling for life, fine him millions, and began efforts to force Sterling to sell the team. Those efforts ended with Shelly Sterlings deal with Ballmer. If this deal ultimately goes through, its terms allow Shelly Sterling to remain close to the organization by allowing for up to 10 per cent of the team -- or $200 million -- to be spun off into a charitable foundation that she would essentially run. Shelly Sterling and Ballmer would be co-chairs of the foundation, which would target underprivileged families, battered women, minorities and inner city youths. Under the deal Shelly Sterling would also get the title of "owner emeritus" and be entitled to continuing perks such as floor seats, additional seats at games and parking. One of the individuals said the deal also includes conditions that allow Ballmer to buy back the 10 per cent portion of the team for a pre-designated price upon Shelly Sterlings death. WINNIPEG -- Robert Marve knows that when you give Winnipeg Blue Bomber fans something to cheer about, you feel the love. Marve is one of three quarterbacks coach Mike OShea says are in the running to back up starter Drew Willy for the Bombers. He spent a scant few minutes on the field last Thursday at the end of a 24-22 loss to the Toronto Argonauts but didnt waste a second. He rushed for 17 yards and connected with three out of four passes, including one for a touchdown to rookie receiver Donavon Kemp. It game fans a reason to cheer, and they responded in person and on Twitter. "I did get some Bomber love," he said Thursday after practice. "That was nice. The fans are awesome and I appreciate all the support." Marve will get another chance to play Saturday when the Bombers visit the Calgary Stampeders in Calgary, but coach Mike OShea couldnt say how much. "Well see all four," he said. "Now how the times broken down, well see how it all plays out. But the plan right now is, as I said yesterday, to give Drew all the time he needs to feel comfortable and for the offence to get comfortable with him." Willy also didnt sound too concerned Thursday about how much time he will get as the team plays its last pre-season game before their CFL home opener against the Argonauts June 26. He had two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in a backup capacity and at least on Thursday was getting a lot more playing time in practice. OShea insists the role of backup in Winnipeg is still very much up for grabs. In terms of CFL experience, Max Hall would seem to have the inside track. HHe finished last season as the pivot the Bombers turned too most often as they struggled to find a way to win. Jerricho Cotchery Womens Jersey. But they also brought in Marve and Brian Brohm to audition. At just 25, Marve is the youngest of the three. A high-school star in Florida, his college career was marred by three operations to repair three tears of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Likely as a result, he was undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft but attended the Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. He insists his knee feels better after this last operation than it has since it was first injured and he doesnt let the injury in any way dictate how hes going to play. "No, Im a loose cannon. I cant play holding anything back. And as you kind of saw on that one drive Im a pump up guy. I like to run around and make some things happen. "So I felt good in the game. My knee felt fine when I was running so Im ready to go physically." His last operation was about a year ago and he finished his college career at Purdue before having it. Among the cuts the Bombers announced Thursday was their No. 1 draft pick in 2012, offensive lineman Tyson Pencer. Although Pencer, who was taken third overall in that years CFL draft, has spent much of his time with the Bombers on an injured list, OShea said they have seen enough to know he was not going to make the team. They also released import defensive linemen Stafford Gatling and Louis Nzegwu, import offensive lineman Quentin Saulsberry and another draft pick, defensive back Kris Robertson, who they selected in the second round last year. Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn. Sam Acho Kids Jersey .ca! Hi Kerry,In the Leafs/Penguins game on Monday night Rob Bortuzzo hits JerryDAmigo, which leads to a 2-on-1 for the Leafs. No Pens ever touched the puck and the Leafs had a clear scoring opportunity. Why would the refs blow this play dead before a shot is even taken?Thanks,Chris---Kerry, during Monday nights game between Pittsburgh and Toronto, RobertBortuzzo hit JerryDAmigo with a body check that appeared legal - at least to me.He was assessed a two-minute minor penalty for an "illegal hit to the head." Kerry, if you look at this on the replay, DAmigos body was bent over, clearly in the line of Bortuzzos shoulder. Bortuzzo did not target the head and thus should not have been assessed the penalty. To me, that hit was a clean body check.I am fast becoming an anti-NHL fan if this is the direction the league is going. Thanks,Karl SundboChris and Karl: When a player delivers a devastating check, especially one that makes significant contact to the head of his opponent, the referees first and primary concern is for the safety of a player that might be in distress and require immediate medical response. Puck possession and a potential scoring opportunity become secondary when contact to the head and concussion related injuries are currently such sensitive and hot topic issues within the entire hockey community. The sight of JerryDAmigo turned face down after being struck in the head by the tremendous upward velocity (video) generated through the check by RobertBortuzzo might have even given the Officials cause to reflect on the number of times that players have been evacuated from the ice on stretchers this season. I commend the Official that blew his whistle to stop play in this situation. He was the "first responder" in providing swift medical attention to Jerry DAmico who appeared to be in obvious distress. Whenever a player is struck in the head with significant force I believe you will see the Officials will err on the side of caution to stop the play. It was certainly good to see Jerry DAmico return to the Leafs bench after being fully evaluated. Karl, as much I would hate to see you become an anti-NHL fan I dislike these "legal" checks to the head even more! Far too often excuses are being made for a player that delivers a devastating hit to the head when his opponent is vulnerable. Granted, JerryDAmigos posture was low as he extended to play the puck; one that RobertBortuzzo also made a stab at with his stick. DAmigo was certainly exposed and vulnerable to be legally checked and, as we know, must take responsibility for placing himself in this position. This is where hits of this nature go beyond acceptable for me with regard to "player safety" issues. Why, instead of just making reasonable contact to eliminate a player or finish a check, does the current "gladiator culture" of hitting deem it necessary to knock an opponent into the outer limits of space! I dont particularly blame RobertBortuzzo for taking the shot when it was available to him. I say this even though I deplore the fact that Bortuzzo felt the need to elevate and fully leave his skates at impact against a smaller, bent over and vulnerable opponent. Like so many players today, RobertBortuzzo likely believes thats whats expected of him; even when his opponents head is vulnerable. This mindset has become second nature and instinctive for todays players. It must be altered. I place much of the blame on the keepers of the game for letting this excessive culture of hitting perpetuate over time and consistently erode an ever declining respect players demonstrate toward their opponent! Many around the keepers table will deem this just another "good hockey play" as they hand out suspensions in an attempt to hold players accountable and make "better decisions" in dangerous situations. It will take a greater effort to derail this runaway train wreck because the train left the station years ago. StephaneRicher shared with me a valuable lesson that he learned from Hall of Fame defenceman Larry Robinson in a pre-season game in Richers rookie year with the Montreal Canadiens. The Habs were playing the Oilers in Northlands Coliseum when Richer cross-checked Oilers captain Lee Fogolin in front of the net. As Fogolin then pursued a loose puck behind the net, Richer hit Fogolin right in the numbers driving the veteran player face first into the boards. Fogolin turned and the two players fought. StephaneRicher was feeling pretty good about the outcome of the fight and his contribution as a rookie player. He did what he thought was expected of him. Richer was even expecting high-fives from his teammates upon his return to the Habs bench after serving the major penalty for fighting. Instead of a pat on the back, Larry Robinson had a heart to heart talk with young Mr. Richer on the Canadiens bench. Robinson explained to the rookie that to earn respect around the NHL he must show respect toward his opponents. The great Larry Robinson continued the lesson by adding, whenever a players numbers were exposed which placed the opponent in a dangerous or vulnerable position you dont hit him with any force. At times like that just do what is necessary to contain your opponent. Robinson suggested Richer would earn more respect for playing that way! I hope it isnt too late for this lesson to be instilled in the present generation of NHL players. All aboard! Michael Floyd Jersey . "It is my feeling the club is at a stage that is critical to our on-field expectations and this move was necessary," Hervey told a news gathering hours after he informed Reed he was gone after three years as head coach. Paul Fanaika Jersey . Mata had already been dropped from Spains squad once this season and with the country blessed with so many playmakers, he was in real danger of being overlooked for the trip to Brazil to defend their title.INDIANAPOLIS -- Sent packing by his only NFL team, one he transformed from afterthought to Super Bowl champion, PeytonManning said goodbye to the Indianapolis Colts with a shaky voice and tear-filled eyes, then got ready to find a new place to play quarterback. At a podium alongside owner Jim Irsay, who cut the injured star Wednesday rather than pay a whopping US$28 million bonus due this week, Manning was by turns wistful, nostalgic -- he got choked up while praising the Colts equipment managers -- and forward-looking. The only four-time MVP in NFL history now figures to become as coveted a free agent as the league has ever seen, assuming he can assuage any lingering concerns about the series of neck operations that forced him to miss all of 2011. Arizona, Miami, Seattle, Tennessee, Washington and the New York Jets all have been rumoured as possible destinations; Mannings former offensive co-ordinator in Indianapolis, Tom Moore, worked for the Jets as a consultant last season. "Nobody loves their job more than I do. Nobody loves playing quarterback more than I do. I still want to play. But there is no other team I wanted to play for," said Manning, who turns 36 this month. Still, he acknowledged: "We all know that nothing lasts forever. Times change, circumstances change, and thats the reality of playing in the NFL." Another reality: Manning should command plenty of offers on the open market. Its not very often that teams get a crack at a QB whos thrown for more than 50,000 yards and nearly 400 touchdowns, been picked for 11 Pro Bowls, and been a Super Bowl MVP. Mannings importance to the Colts success was never more apparent than last season, when their record plummeted to 2-14 without him. "I have no idea who wants me, what team wants me, how this process works," Manning told a group of reporters in South Florida, where he has a home and flew after the news conference. "I dont know if its like college recruiting where you go take visits. I mean, this is all so new to me." Reports of other clubs interest began emerging a while back, and theyll only intensify now. Because he was released and went on the waiver wire Wednesday, Manning is allowed to negotiate and sign with any club immediately; he does not need to wait until the free-agent period that begins next Tuesday, and said his agent already was taking calls. "I literally have not had one conversation with anyone about these teams. Its been so hard for me trying to figure out some closure with my situation with the Colts," Manning said. "I havent thought about teams, and I dont know who is interested. I really dont." Reaction poured into Twitter feeds from all around the sports world -- not merely from NFL players publicly lobbying for their teams to sign Manning. Dwyane Wade of the NBAs Miami Heat urged Manning to head to that citys Dolphins, while tennis Andy Roddick, the 2003 U.S. Open champion, observed: "The colts cutting Peyton feels like the north pole kicking out Santa." Thats about right. The stark first sentence of the official team statement read: "The Indianapolis Colts today released quarterback PeytonManning." Even if the news first leaked out Tuesday -- and had been anticipated for weeks, if not months -- it was odd to see those words written about a player so synonymous with the horseshoe helmet that Irsay said Mannings No. 18 will never again be worn by a Colts player. Fans of various teams can start imagining what Manning might look like in their colours. Picture Joe Montana heading from the 49ers to the Chiefs or EmmittSmith switching from the Cowboys to the Cardinals. "For those of us who are so used to him being there day in and day out, it would be a little like (Yankees captain) Derek Jeter changing teams. He really is that iconic guy that represents the franchise. Its a hackneyed phrase, but he truly is the face of the franchise, and has been," said former Colts vice chairman Bill Polian, who drafted Manning out of Tennessee with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1998 draft and was fired this January. "It will be a little strange not having him there." That is why Wednesday provided such an awkward and unusual scene for Manning and Irsay. Their NFL lives have been so closely intertwined, yet they stood inches apart in jackets and ties while discussing their separattion. Justin Bethel. . Rarely do star athletes who are not retiring show up at a news conference to let the world know theyve been dumped. And while Manning and Irsay -- indeed, all of the NFL -- was aware this profitable partnership was due to end now, the emotions showed by both seemed raw and real. "This has not been easy for Jim," Manning said, "and this has certainly not been easy for me." Each paused frequently to try to compose himself while speaking during their appearance in a room at the Colts complex normally reserved for celebratory news conferences, such as the hiring of a new coach or general manager -- two other significant steps Irsay took recently as he essentially starts from scratch. The room is lined with banners honouring some of the teams greatest stars, including, of course, Manning himself, flanked by Pro Football Hall of Famers Eric Dickerson and John Mackey. Indianapolis needed to cut Manning this week to avoid paying him a bonus from the $90-million, five-year contract he signed in July, although both owner and player insisted the decision was not really about money. The Colts are widely expected to begin moving on by taking Stanford quarterback AndrewLuck with the No. 1 overall pick in Aprils draft. Irsay repeatedly used the word "rebuilding" and acknowledged: "Were definitely a few years away." Manning, Irsay said, "is on the mend to try to resume his career." Manning hopes to be playing in the NFL at the start of next season. Still, he said Wednesday: "Ill always be a Colt. I always will be. Thatll never change." When the news conference ended, Manning reached over to shake hands with Irsay, who instead tried to offer a hug, and they wound up settling for pats on the shoulder before walking off together and leaving the room. Clearly, this was not an easy adieu for Manning. Mentioning Colts employees hell no longer be around, Manning paused to collect himself while noting: "Weve got the greatest equipment guys in the world." "I think about those type of relationships -- not necessarily always on the field, and the touchdown throw to win the game. Its the behind the scenes. The laughs. The stories. The times spent together. Those are the memories. Those arent going away," he said. "Those will be with me for the rest of my life." Manning will forever be thought of around these parts as the QB who led the Colts to an NFL championship, barking out signals while waving his arms at the line of scrimmage to change a play after reading the defence -- something he did as well as anyone. Hell be remembered, too, for turning a basketball-loving city into a football hotbed that hosted the Super Bowl a month ago. During that Super Bowl week, the hottest topic of conversation was PeytonManning, not his younger brother Eli, who wound up leading the New York Giants to the title. "There will be no other PeytonManning," Irsay said, adding that he hoped Wednesdays joint appearance would serve to "honour incredible memories and incredible things that hes done for the franchise, for the city, for the state." Manning started every meaningful game for 13 seasons -- 227 in a row, including the playoffs -- and took Indianapolis from perennial also-ran to one of the NFLs model franchises and the 2007 Super Bowl title. In the two decades before he arrived in town, the Colts won 116 games, one division title and made the playoffs three times. With Manning taking snaps, the Colts won 150 games, eight division titles, two AFC championships and the franchises first league championship since moving from Baltimore in 1984. Indianapolis broke the NFL record for most regular-season wins in a decade (115), and tied Dallas mark for most consecutive playoff appearances (nine). Manning broke all of the franchises major career passing records, previously held by Hall of Famer John Unitas. Unitas, of course, played 17 years for the Colts when they were in Baltimore, then finished his career with one season in San Diego at age 40. Now its Mannings turn to move on. "I want to get back out there and play. I dont feel like everybody will say, He has to do this or He has to prove that. I dont feel that way," he said. "I know how much I love being a quarterback and love football and I want to go play again." ' ' '

BEREA, Ohio -- The Browns third straight loss included a damaging injury. Malcolm Jenkins Jersey . Speedy return specialist TravisBenjamin, one of Clevelands top playmakers and one of the NFLs best punt returners, tore his anterior cruciate knee ligament in Sundays loss at Kansas City and will miss the remainder of the season. Benjamin needs surgery, which has not yet been scheduled. "Its a tough loss for us," Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said Monday, "but well have some guys step up." Benjamin is the second key Browns player to have his season ended by a torn ACL. Starting quarterback BrianHoyer tore his right ACL while sliding at the end of a scramble on Oct. 3 against Buffalo, a game Benjamin turned around by returning a punt 79 yards for a touchdown and racking up a team record 179 yards in returns as Cleveland rallied for a 37-24 win. Chudzinski said Benjamin twisted his knee while planting on a return with 2:34 left in the third quarter. The Browns (3-5) have already felt Benjamins loss. With the second-year wide receiver on the sideline, DavoneBess took over return duties but fumbled while trying to catch a punt on the run in the fourth quarter. The muff was recovered by the Chiefs, who held on to remain unbeaten. "I had it," said Bess, who also mishandled three passes, including one on fourth down with 2:12 left. "When I got my eyes up to see where the defenders were, they were there and I must not have had it 100 per cent. Its just discipline. Ive got to look the ball all the way in and it starts in practice. " Benjamin, who was drafted in the fourth round last year from Miami, has been a major contributor for the Browns. Hes averaged 11.7 yard per punt return -- sixth in the league -- and his 86-yard kickoff return set up a TD for Cleveland on Oct. 20 against Green Bay. He also had five catches for 105 yards and rushed for 45 yards on an end-around. Chudzinski said Bess will continue to handle punt returns. Starting cornerback JoeHaden is another option, but Chudzinski would prefer not to use one of his best defensive players. "Its unfortunate with his injury, but Ive got to step up," Bess said. "Thats as simple as it gets. Theres nothing to talk about, to be down about. Its just to go out and get it." Green Jeremy Maclin Womens Elite Jersey . The stadium gasped. EDMONTON -- Goaltender LaurentBrossoit was recalled by the Edmonton Oilers on an emergency basis on Monday after ViktorFasth was injured. Drew Butler Jersey . Fasth was hurt Monday morning in practice with a possible sprained neck. Fasth has a 2-1-1 record with the Oilers with a 2.76 goals-against average and an .899 save percentage. He was traded from Anaheim to Edmonton on March 4. Before the trade, Fasth had a 2-2-1 record with the Ducks with a 2.95 GAA and an .885 save percentage. The 21-year-old Brossoit had been assigned to the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL after the Oilers franchise acquired him from the Calgary Flames in a trade on Nov. 8. He had been promoted to the American Hockey Leagues Oklahoma City Barons before the recall to Edmonton. Brossoit has a 2.20 GAA, a .920 save percentage and a 19-9-2 record with Bakersfield. He went 2-0-0 with the Alaska Aces prior to the trade. He leads the ECHL in shutouts with seven. Brossoit has played eight games with Oklahoma City this season, posting a 3.60 GAA and .888 save percentage. Frostee Rucker Kids Jersey .C. -- Cameron Gaunce scored in overtime to lift the Texas Stars to a 4-3 win over the Abbotsford Heat in American Hockey League action Wednesday. Dave Zastudil Jersey . -- PeytonManning will have all of his wide receivers available for the first time in a month when the Denver Broncos begin their playoff run Jan.WASHINGTON -- Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke thought starter MattGarza threw some good pitches Saturday night. They certainly were good for Washington to hit. Garza was knocked out in the first inning of his shortest major league start, and RyanZimmerman and WilsonRamos drove in three runs apiece to lead the Nationals over the Brewers 8-3. "Call it what you want, man, just wasnt a good day," Garza said. Garza (6-7) faced eight batters and got just one out, allowing four singles, a double and two walks in the shortest of his 211 regular-season big league starts dating to 2006. His previous low was 1 1-3 innings at the Marlins on June 18, 2010, according to STATS. "He didnt throw the ball that bad," Roenicke said. "Its a shame you make good pitches and they did a good job fouling them off, and they did a good job reaching out and putting balls in play." Garza had been 4-2 with a 2.35 ERA in his previous eight outings, but Saturdays effort caused his season ERA to rise from 3.69 to 4.04. He dropped to 0-3 with a 7.33 ERA in six career starts against the Nationals. He was lifted after 42 pitches. "He had one out. So we were going get up to 50 pitches and none of us are comfortable with him going 50," Roenicke said. TannerRoark (9-6) gave up one runs and six hits in seven innings with five strikeouts. In his first full season as a starter, he has allowed two earned runs or fewer in 13 of 19 outings. "Its a lot weight off my shoulders whenever we get five runs in the first," he said Roark took over the team lead in wins, one ahead of DougFister. Against a Milwaukee team that Washington manager Matt Williams said hits both fastballs and curveballs well, Roark relied more on his slider than his curve. "I actually changed my grip on it, so that helped out a lot," Roark said, adding he learned the grip from JordanZimmerrmann. John Abraham. "Ive been able to throw it a lot harder." RyanBraun hit a two-run homer in the eighth for the Brewers, tied with St. Louis atop the NL Central. DenardSpan led off the first with a single and, after AnthonyRendon struck out, Werth blooped a double to right. AdamLaRoches walked loaded the bases, and Zimmerman bounced a single up the middle for a 2-0 lead. "I felt fine. Nothing felt off, " Garza said. "Just ... started off the game with a gem-shot single. ... Another bad break, and then Zimm hit a four-hopper up the middle." BryceHarpers eight-pitch walk reloaded the bases, IanDesmonds dribbler for an infield single drove in a run and Ramos chased Garza with a two-run single. Ramos is 24 for 61 (.393) with nine RBIs in his last 17 games. "You want to be aggressive and youve got an opportunity for a crooked number there," Williams said. "I think the big at bat there was Wilsons. He got behind, got to two strikes, and got a slider out. Thats a big cushion there." Milwaukee got a run in the second when JonathanLucroy doubled, stole third and scored when Ramoss throw skipped into left field for third first of two errors by the catcher. Run-scoring singles by Ramos in the third and Zimmerman in the fourth made it 7-1 against MarcoEstrada, who pitched 5 2-3 innings of relief. Zimmerman is 26 for 75 (.347) with 17 RBIs since June 24. LaRoche added a sacrifice fly in the sixth. NOTES: Williams said RHP JordanZimmermann, who left his last start in the fourth inning due to a right biceps cramp, threw a good bullpen session Saturday and is to start Tuesday at Colorado. ... Milwaukee RHP YovaniGallardo (5-5, 3.68) opposes LHP GioGonzalez (6-5, 3.56) in Sundays series finale. ... Singer Austin Mahone, on hand to perform a postgame concert, threw the ceremonial first pitch. ' ' '

International football badly needed a good World Cup. Nathan MacKinnon Authentic Jersey . The jury is yet to deliver a verdict with the knockout rounds still to come, but all indications are that this will not be a good World Cup. Indeed, it is on track to be a great World Cup. Two weeks to the day that the opening match of the tournament between Brazil and Croatia came to a close, the curtain came down on the group stages and what a sensational show it was. We are now already through three quarters of the tournament, but rather than be sad that much of it is over, we should be grateful with what we witnessed. It was a group stage that gave us more special moments than the three previous World Cups combined. A group stage of surprises, where tactically versatile and organized sides shocked the so-called super powers of the game. A group stage that saw the renaissance of 3-5-2, used so well by surprise teams like Netherlands, Costa Rica and Mexico. A group stage of counterattackers, comebacks and headers, trends that the Netherlands used in their demolition of Spain back on Day 2. Their superb pressing and clinical finishing gave us a glimpse of what was to come in Brazil, but not before that look and pass by Daley Blind just before the half-time break. The ball landed on top of the supremely intelligent head of Robin van Persie and his magnificent header over Iker Casillas changed everything. It became the group stage of headers with 27 more following van Persies, but none of them beating it. It became the group stage of comebacks. Spain, massacred by the Dutch 5-1 in the third game of the tournament, was already the second team, after Croatia a day earlier, to lose a game they led. A small, exclusive group of only four from 2010 would grow quickly as Uruguay, Japan, Ecuador, Algeria and Australia joined them in the first week. During their second group games Germany, Ghana, Portugal and USA all managed to not win games against each other that they led in. Even Uruguay, Greece and Algeria had comebacks of their own, all qualifying despite losing their opening World Cup match. Only Spain did that in 2010. It became the group stage of counterattacks, once again ignited by the Dutch over Spain as they scored their last three goals with a combined 29 seconds in possession, and never more highlighted than when Switzerland broke away in the final seconds to score a dramatic, crucial winner over Ecuador. It became the group stage of creative, left-footed masters who glided across the field into space left open by a transition. The group stage of substitute goals, 24 in total, highlighted by Miroslav Klose joining the great Ronaldo on 15 World Cup goals and James Rodriguez dancing his way through the Japanese defence for one of the goals of the tournament. In the end, though, it was the group stage of goals as an incredible 136 went in (there was a total of 145 scored in South Africa). It was no surprise that a wind of caution blew around the stadiums as the third group games took place but before they started the goals per game ratio stood at a wonderful 2.96. It ends the group stage at a beautifully high 2.83. There are still 16 games to go, of course, but no World Cup since 1970 has come close to that average. It wasnt just about the amount of goals, however. Many of the worlds stars were the ones scoring and we already have three world class stars on four goals each through three games. My 23 man squad of the group stages GK Guillermo Ochoa (Mexico), Keylor Navas (Costa Rica), Vincent Enyeama (Nigeria) D Serge Aurier (Ivory Coast), Cristian Gamboa (Costa Rica), Kostas Manolas (Greece), Rafa Marquez (Mexico), Mario Yepes (Colombia), Raphael Varene (France), Giancarlo Gonzalez (Costa Rica), Daley Blind (Netherlands). M Jose Vazquez (Mexico), Hector Herrera (Mexico), Blaise Matuidi (France), Charles Aranguiz (Chile), Toni Kroos (Germany), James Rodriguez (Colombia) F Neymar (Brazil), Lionel Messi (Argentina), Karim Benzema (France), Thomas Muller (Germany), Arjen Robben (Netherlands), Robin Van Persie (Netherlands) Group Winners Brazil, Netherlands, Colombia, Costa Rica, France, Argentina, Germany & Belgium. For the third time in the last four World Cups, three teams that were not seeded won groups. For the second successive World Cup, the only seed that didnt progress through to the next stage was the previous winners (Spain 2014, Italy 2010). Since the World Cup went to 32 teams in 1998, over the last four World Cups, nine group winners have lost in the next round (average of more than two per World Cup) and there hasnt been a World Cup in that time when all group winners advanced. Runners-up Mexico, Chile, Greece, Uruguay, Switzerland, Nigeria, USA & Algeria. With that stat in mind it is likely that at least one of these teams will beat their opponent. Look for Greece, Uruguay, possibly Mexico, USA and even Chile to continue this streak. After that? In nine of the last 10 World Cups a group runner-up has made it to at least the semi-final stage. That will be the target of one of these teams going forward. Ranking teams eliminated at this World Cup based on performances in Brazil 32. Honduras31. Cameroon30. Japan29. South Korea28. England27. If you do, where do you go from there? If you want to progress as a team and as a club you have no chance if you sell players like that.NEW YORK -- Philadelphia 76ers forward ArnettMoultrie has been suspended five games without pay for a league drug violation. The NBA said his suspension will begin with Monday nights game against the Atlanta Hawks. Moultrie was assigned to Delaware of the D-League on March 15 after playing 12 games this season. He will also be ineligible to play for Delaware during the suspension. Moultrie is averaging 3.0 points and 2.9 rrebounds.Lanny McDonald Avalanche Jersey. He was the 27th pick in the 2012 draft. Philadelphia coach Brett Brown declined comment on the specifics of the suspension before his team faced the Hawks. "Part of that whole collective bargaining is we let the league do what the league has to do," Brown said. "What I will say is, Arnett is still a part of the team and we will reach out to him and help him where we can." ' ' '

The thunderous cheers quickly changed to an appreciative chant: "Ma-son! Ma-son! Ma-son! Headed to New York with new life, Mason sure earned this curtain call.NEW YORK -- The latest high-priced addition to the New York Yankees stood on the dais in front of a large news conference, put on his pinstriped jersey with No. 19 and smiled. "Hello. My name is Masahiro Tanaka," he said slowly in English. "Im very happy to be a Yankee." After chartering a Boeing 787 Dreamliner for his trip from Tokyo to New York, the 25-year-old right-hander with the $155 million, seven-year contract was presented Tuesday not in the news conference room downstairs at Yankee Stadium, but in the Legends Suite Club, where the high rollers congregate on game days. Yankees spokesman Jason Zillo concluded the teams latest Pacific overture drew New Yorks most-attended news conference since HidekiMatsui was introduced in January 2003. Managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner said obtaining Tanaka was worth the economic pain of exceeding the $189 million luxury tax threshold New York had hoped to stay under. "We needed another starter, and when we do things, we try to do them right," Steinbrenner said. "And this guy, hes tough. Hes got tremendous ability. We all know that. And hes going to be very exciting to watch. And hes going to be great for the team, a great teammate. And $189 (million) or not, we wanted a good quality starter, and we got it." Tanaka charted a Japan Airlines plane, which seats about 200, for the trans-Pacific trip to New York, reportedly costing about $200,000. There were just five passengers on the plane, including his pop star wife Mai Satoda, plus their poodle Haru. The flight, originally scheduled to depart at noon, was delayed many hours by a snowstorm. "There wasnt many choices of planes," he said through a translator when asked about the big jet. And a lengthy commercial trip could have been uncomfortable. "I thought about my conditioning, just wanted to get here in the best condition possible," he said. For his first meal in New York, he ventured outside his room at the Mandarin Oriental hotel overlooking Central Park. "I ate a sushi," he said, "which I bought at a grocery store nearby." New York, which also added BrianMcCann, JacobyEllsbury and CarlosBeltran during the off-season, figures to have a big following in Japan this year. Tanaka joins pitcher HirokiKuroda and outfielder IchiroSuzuki on the roster, and reliever YoshinoriTateyama will be at spring training with a minor league contract. "This would make the Boss proud," general manager Brian Cashman said in a reference to late owner George Steinbrenner. "The YYankees obviously are about always trying to acquire the best talent and a collection of talent that can compete for a championship, but he also liked a lot of attention, and this certainly represents a lot of attention. Denver Nuggets Black Friday Jersey. So this is Yankee big. This is Steinbrenner big." Tanaka was 24-0 with a 1.27 ERA last year, leading the Rakuten Golden Eagles to the Japan Series title. That left him with a 99-35 record and a 2.30 ERA in Japan, where he had 53 complete games in 172 starts. New York had one of the most successful Japanese players in the major leagues with outfielder HidekiMatsui, the 2009 World Series MVP. And the Yankees experienced costly flops with pitchers HidekiIrabu and KeiIgawa. Manager JoeGirardi was behind the plate for Irabus debut in 1997. "They feel a little bit more weight of representing their country than maybe players that are here on an everyday basis, because they kind of pave the way for the next guy and then the next guy," he said. Girardis advice: "Dont feel like you have to live up to the contract." On a tour of the U.S. with a Japanese high school all-star team in 2006, Tanaka met Matsui when one of the young pitchers games was rained out. During the off-season, he spoke briefly by telephone with Matsui about his pending decision. New York appealed to Tanakas desire to pitch on the biggest stage. "This is where you need to be. A great star. The biggest franchise. The biggest brand. The biggest city," Yankees President Randy Levine remembered saying during the teams pitch session with the player on Jan. 8 in Beverly Hills, Calif. "He said some other teams he had met with wanted him to transition in, and he didnt like that. He wanted to take the ball on Day One, and that told us a lot about him." Tanaka sounded prepared for the Yankees win-or-else mentality. "Ive heard that this place is -- it could be very harsh to you at times," he said. "Just wanted to put myself, though, in this environment and try to see where I can get to with my ability." Cashman is trying to lower expectations, saying Tanaka will slot in as No. 3 in the rotation behind CCSabathia and Kuroda. "We could be getting more than a three. Maybe its a two. Maybe its even a one at some point," Cashman said. "I think that the adjustments are real, and as excited as we are to have and as much as we need a player of his capabilities, I want to make sure that people understand how difficult this game is over here and that there should be expectations of growing pains." Tom Renney is a hockey man, not a businessman. Trent Richardson Jersey . He once ran a clothing store in Trail, B.C., along with his wife but since then his life has been immersed in coaching. So when Hockey Canada was searching for a new president and CEO and Renney emerged as serious candidate, the 59-year-old didnt put on a masquerade. "(Business is) not where his passion lies," Team Canada coach Mike Babcock said. "And its not where his expertise lies. One thing about Tom: He knows what he is and he knows what hes not." Renney above all else is a respected hockey man, and his decades of experience at the amateur, international and professional levels ultimately made him Hockey Canadas choice to replace Bob Nicholson. What separated Renney from other candidates, board of directors chairman Jim Hornell said, was his values base, connections throughout the sport and passion to grow the game. "Hes a people person, he connects well, he communicates well with people and certainly hes recognized not only in Canada but throughout the hockey world, and thats important," Hornell said on a conference call Tuesday. "Its important that we have someone who is knowledgeable in hockey but who is also recognized in hockey and can bring a team together." Around the NHL, where Renney has worked in various coaching and player personnel jobs for the Vancouver Canucks, New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers and Detroit Red Wings, the Cranbook, B.C., native is lauded for his ability to bridge gaps and build a consensus. "Hes as well-connected as anybody in hockey, for starters, which really helps," Rangers general manager Glen Sather said in a phone interview. "I dont think theres anyone in the hockey business who would have a bad thing to say about Tom." Renney most recently worked as an associate coach on Babcocks staff in Detroit. Red Wings GM Ken Holland said that hire was a "no-brainer" and felt the same about his hiring by Hockey Canada because of his wealth of experience. Babcock, who has led Team Canada to back-to-back Olympic gold medals, said Hockey Canada "absolutely hit it out of the park" by hiring Renney. "Tom Renney treats people right, a hundred per cent integrity. When hes wrong, he owns his own garbage," Babcock said in a phone interview. "I was happy for Canadian hockey, because to me they got themselves a real good man whos been through all the steps, can speak to people and knows whats important in the game. Hes going to help grow our game again, and I think thats so important." The Hockey Canada that Renney inherits in 2014 is one that Hornell emphasized is "on a very solid foundation" thanks to work done since 1998 by Nicholson, who resigned in April. Among Renneys new challenges is to make hockey a more affordable sport for Canadian children and to maintain interest in it beyond the youth level. "I want to pay particular attention to development, I want to pay particular attention to grassroots hockey," Renney said at a news conference in Calgary. "I want people to participate in the game for the right reasons, and that means doing the right thing. Little people have to want to play this game, older people have to want to continue to play it, and when you get to that great old age of whatever it is, you want to play it as a lifetime sport." Hockey has been a lifetime endeavour for Renney, who began coaching in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League before moving on to win two WHL titles and a Memorial Cup with the Kamloops Blazers in the early 1990s. He was the coach of Canadas national team for two years after that, including at the 1994 Olympics. Renneys NHL experience included being head coach of the Canucks, Rangers and Oilers. While with New York, he also served as director of player personnel and vice-president of player development. If there was any doubt Renney was just a coach, he quashed it. "Hes one of the most analytical guys that I know and well-organized, persistent," Sather said. "Ive always looked to hire somebody thats smarter than me. He was one of those guys that I was quite sure that he was." In the decade since, Renney went from associate coach of the Oilers to head coach to an associate for the past two seasons with the Red Wings. Even though he never led a team beyond the conference final, his strengths kept him as a hot commodity in the game. "Hes coached our Olympic team, he started in grassroots hockey, he played college hockey," Babcock said. "Hes just flat-out done it all, and he doesnt get tired. All he thinks about is hockey. Hes 24/7 hockey, thats what he loves." On the international stage, Renney was vice-president of hockey operations for Hockey Canada from 1997 to 1999 and on three occasions was on the coaching staff at world championships. Holland recalled presentations Renney made to international coaches, too, as even more evidence of experience and his stature within hockey circles. "Hes going to respect people, hes going to respect the game and in return he gets that respect back," Holland said in a phone interview. "He knows everybody in the game, and if he doesnt know them, as soon as he introduces himself because of what hes accomplished and because of his experiences, because hes a classy, first-class person, hes very comfortable in talking to people." Renney is not arrogant but confident about his business background, even if its restricted to a clothing shop in Trail with his wife, Glenda, where he dealt with the ebb and flow of pricing and learned how to balance budgets and maintain relationships with customers. "There isnt a lot that can get done in this day and age without a good business plan, so I very much have my head around that," Renney said. "I know that I come into a situation that has enormous capital in terms of its people potential here and the work thats been done in the past. Im thankful for that quite honestly because as you can appreciate as more of an operations/coach background, this is really important to me to be surrounded by terrific people, which I am, to help push forward our business plan, if you will, and enhance it." Renney, who will get help from chief operation officer Scott Smith, isnt as business savvy as Nicholson, who last month became vice-chairman of Oilers Entertainment Group. Through an Oilers spokesman, Nicholson deferred comment until later in the week so as not to interfere with Renneys big day. The expectations on Renney are much different. "Weve done great work in the past and Toms job is to take us into a new era," Hornell said. "His passion for the game came through through the entire process and were just looking for him now to hit the ground running and will take Hockey Canada to the next level." Hakeem Nicks Jersey . Grabner scored on a breakaway 3:53 into overtime as the Islanders defeated the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 on Tuesday. Adam Vinatieri Jersey . After losing the first two games of this set in Arlington the Tigers showed some signs of life on Tuesday, as MiguelCabrera, VictorMartinez and JhonnyPeralta all homered and AustinJackson went 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI for the AL Central champs in a 5-2 win.THE FORMATIONS Toronto FC lined up in a 4-4-2 formation, as it did last weekend in its 2-1 victory over the Seattle Sounders. There was one change to TFCs starting XI, as designated player, Gilberto, made his debut in a Toronto jersey, replacing Dwayne De Rosario up front. DC United named an unchanged lineup from their 3-0 loss to the Columbus Crew on the opening weekend of the season (DC had a bye last weekend). Head coach Ben Olsen again chose to line up his team in a 4-4-2 diamond formation. (Click for larger) THE GAME Toronto FCs home debut wasnt pretty. Not because the players on display were poor, but because the pitch simply wasnt ready for soccer. That is not the fault of the BMO Field grounds crew though, who did an admirable job getting the surface prepared for the game. But after the coldest winter in recent memory, it was always going to be an impossible task to turn the playing surface into the lush carpet that players come to expect. While DC United boss Ben Olsen said the pitch "was as bad as Ive ever seen in MLS", it didnt stop the players from trying to play. But the bobbly surface, which cut up as the game wore on, made it virtually impossible for the players to string long sequences of passes together. Despite the difficult conditions (it was also cold and windy down on the pitch), there were some glimpses of what lies ahead for the long-suffering fans of Toronto FC. The partnership between Jermain Defoe and Gilberto looks to be very promising. Defoes movement in the final third was exceptional, and he had a number of chances in the first half to break the deadlock. In Gilberto, Defoe has a partner who can serve as his perfect foil. The Brazilian was comfortable dropping deep to receive the ball, didnt shy away from the physical battle, and once he had the ball at his feet, was willing to drive at the back four or play the role of provider. Michael Bradley was again a dominant force in midfield, and his partnership with Jonathan Osorio is also reason for optimism. They can both get caught ahead of the ball at times (as they did in Seattle last week for the Sounders goal) but that is due more to their lack of familiarity than to any tactical negligence. The early signs are that these two players will be very influential for Toronto FC. At the back, TFC looked comfortable all game. Both Doneil Henry and Steven Caldwell had strong games, with Henry winning everything in the air. In Eddie Johnson and Fabian Espindola, DC United have two very experienced front men, but Henry and Caldwell thwarted everything that the pair could throw their way. THE TURNING POINT Only one goal separated the teams at the final whistle, and it came from great work from Torontos three designated players. Apparently, you do get what you pay for. On the hour mark, Bradley picked up a square ball from Osorio in midfield, took one touch and floated a perfectly weighted pass into the path of Gilberto, who haad made a great run in behind DC Uniteds central defender, Jeff Parke. Coby Fleener Jersey. (Click for larger) Gilberto settled the ball with a perfect first touch, and as the covering defender, Bobby Boswell, was closing him down, fired a right-footed shot on target. Look at the positional awareness of Defoe when Gilberto is shooting; he put himself in the ideal position to pick up the rebound. He didnt charge in full-speed towards goal; instead, he held his run so that he could adjust his position, which gave him the best possible chance of recovering the ball. (Click for larger) DC United goalkeeper, Bill Hamid, did very well to parry the hard, low shot from Gilberto. Bobby Boswell tried to hack the ball clear, but Defoe, who had taken up the ideal position inside the penalty area, intercepted his clearance. (Click for larger) From there, Defoe did what he does best. He took one touch to set himself and one touch to fire the ball into the back of the net. THE POSITIVES In a scrappy game, it was encouraging to see the developing partnerships all over the pitch for Toronto FC. The strength of this team is its spine: Defoe-Gilberto / Bradley-Osorio / Caldwell-Henry / Julio Cesar is as good a spine as any team in MLS. If those players can stay healthy (and not miss too many games due to this summers World Cup), Toronto FC fans can look forward to playoff soccer for the first time in the clubs history. Defoe was a class apart against DC United. His movement to pull off the shoulders of the DC United defenders was something that all aspiring strikers should watch over and over again. But I thought that 20-year old Henry was immense for TFC. Ive said it before (and I promise you, Ill be saying it again) - Henry is going to be a real player. THE NEGATIVES Jackson had a game to forget, and I suspect that he could be getting a call from the Leagues Disciplinary Committee. In the 50th minute, Jackson was booked for an altercation with DC Uniteds Davy Arnaud. While the referee cautioned Jackson on the play, I think that video evidence will show that Jackson intentionally elbowed Arnaud off the ball which could draw a suspension similar to the one received by Seattles Clint Dempsey for striking TFCs Mark Bloom last weekend. THE STAR MAN With three goals in his first two games in MLS, Defoe is off to a flying start for Toronto FC. Goals get the headlines and rightly so but it was Defoes overall play that was so impressive. His movement and finishing ability are superb, and if his teammates can continue to deliver him good service, it is quite possible that Defoe will sit atop the leagues scoring chart come the end of the season. Never before has Toronto FC started the season with two victories. But a major investment in better players is paying dividends early on for TFC as they sit joint top of the Eastern Conference standings with maximum points from their first two games. ' ' '

ST. Jacob Tamme Mens Black Jersey . LOUIS -- Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander EdinsonVolquez was expecting some pearls of wisdom from pitching coach Ray Searage before Thursday nights start at St. Louis. "He came up to me and I figured we were going to go over their lineup, do some scouting," Volquez said. "But all he said was, Go out there and win." Volquez compiled with those simple instructions, tossing a complete game six-hitter to win his fourth straight start in a 9-1 victory. NeilWalker, JoshHarrison, RussellMartin and AndrewMcCutchen all drove in two runs for Pittsburgh, which avoided being swept in the four-game series. Volquez (8-6) has a 0.90 ERA in winning four consecutive starts for the first time in his career. He struck out five and walked two in recording the second complete-game win of his career. He allowed just one hit as a member of the San Diego Padres in beating Houston 1-0 on July 19, 2012. "He used his breaking ball effectively and he got outs when he needed them," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. "Its about throwing strikes and changing speeds. It was a real good effort." Volquez seemed to get better as the game went along. He needed a season-high 114 pitches to give the Pirates their first complete game of the season. "He had command of all of his pitches," St. Louis infielder MattCarpenter said. "We just werent able to get anything going." Volquez allowed the leadoff batter to reach base in each of the first four innings. He then gave up just two hits over the final five. "When he gets past the fifth, he smells the finish," Hurdle said. ShelbyMiller (7-8) allowed four runs in five innings. He walked four and struck out one. Walker extended his hitting streak to a season-high 12 games with a two-run double in the fifth that extended the Pirates lead to 4-1. McCutchen started the three-run uprising with a run-scoring single that broke a 1-all tie. McCutchen drove in a run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly. Harrison added a two-run double in the inning that made it 6-1. Martin homered off JasonMotte in the ninth. Martin drove in his 500th career run in the first inning. The Pirates had been held to six runs in losing the first three games of the series. They were a combined 2 for 25 with runners in scoring position in those losses. On Thursday, they came up with several key hits in a 4-for-11 effort with runners in scoring position. "We took advantage of some mistakes and some opportunities and we were able to play our game," Walker said. The Cardinals were playing without All-Star catcher YadierMolina, who tore a ligament in his right thumb in Wednesdays 5-2 win. Molina will undergo surgery on Friday and is expected to miss 8 to 12 weeks. "I think it was a tough night for our club in general," manager Mike Mathney said. "We just didnt look right from the beginning." St. Louis tied it in the third on a sacrifice fly by Carpenter. KoltenWong began the inning with a single. Miller lost his third straight decision. "I didnt do a good job of getting ahead in the count," Miller said. "I ended up walking guys and they took advantage of the situation." NOTES: St. Louis OF AllenCraig, mired in an 0-for-13 skid did not play Thursday. ...The Cardinals open a three-game series in Milwaukee on Friday. JoeKelly (1-1, 0.59) will face YovaniGallardo (5-5, 3.45) in the first game. Kelly is making his first appearance since straining his left hamstring on April 16. ... Pittsburgh will travel to Cincinnati for a three-game series beginning Friday. LHP JeffLocke (2-1, 3.08) will face MatLatos (2-1, 2.41) in the opener. ... St. Louis C TonyCruz, who is replacing Molina, allowed a passed ball in the sixth that brought in a run. ...There are now just three teams without a complete game this season -- Kansas City, Colorado and the Chicago Cubs. Wes Welker Jersey . As Valanciunas was whistled for a rare technical toward the end of the third quarter - a result of waving his hand at an official after being called for a foul - Lowry pulled the Raptors sophomore aside, corralling him by his jersey and patting him on the back. Aqib Talib Womens White Jersey . "I like the toughness factor in certain situations where last year and two years ago wed get bumped, get hit [and] wouldnt respond," Casey said an hour and a half before facing the league-best Thunder, a team that hadnt yet lost at home.CHARLESTON, W.Va. - New York Jets quarterback GenoSmith is eager to work with MichaelVick, even if it means a hotly contested competition for the starting job. "Awesome, man. Vicks my guy," Smith said during a fan signing event Saturday in West Virginia. "We needed to find a guy that was legitimately a guy that could come in and play. I think thats what we did. "Mission accomplished." Vick signed a one-year deal with the Jets on Friday, the same day New York released former starter MarkSanchez. The Jets hope Vick, who spent the last five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, will be able to push Smith during training camp. Vick is "going to be a guy I can work with, have a really good working relationship with and also compete with," Smith said at the Charleston Civic Center. Smith was unfazed by Vicks comments Friday night on a conference call with New York-area reporters that he wouldnt necessarily be content standing on the sideline all season. "Thats every quarterback," Smith said. "I understand where Mikes coming from. No one wants to sit the bench. I dont know a player that does." Smith threw for 12 touchdowns and 21 interceptions in his rookie season while starting all 16 games after Sanchez injured his right shoulder in the preseason. He drew praise from coach Rex Ryan for a sttrong finish in which the Jets won three of their last four to finish 8-8, but Smith expects to have "an open competition" with Vick for the starting job just like it will be for every position on the team. Shannon Sharpe Jersey. "Its just good to have a guy to compete with like Mike," Smith said. "Were going to compete. Were not going to say, Hey, youre the starter. And well leave it at that. We want to get better. "I love it. Its really making everyone work harder and keep you right on your toes because you dont have a moment to be satisfied or just say Ive arrived. Youve got to continue to work at it." Smith respects the opinion of Vick, who first reached out to him during Smiths senior season at West Virginia in 2012. Smith, a second-round pick, recalled that the NFL draft process and how to handle expectations were among the topics they discussed. "Some of the things I asked him was, How did you deal with being THE guy?" Smith said. "I was in that situation last year. As soon as I walked into the locker room, I was expected to produce. And as we all know in the league, its hard to do that. If youre not on a team thats already set up to win, youre going to have your struggles. "It was more about me just having an understanding of the position that Im in and just continuing to grow." ' ' '

The Florida Panthers have placed defenceman RyanWhitney on waivers. Walter Thurmond . The 30-year-old defenceman has appeared in six games with the Panthers so far this season, registering no points and a minus-7 rating. Florida signed Whitney to a one-year $900,000 contract this off-season. In 480 career NHL games Whitney has scored 50 goals and 209 assists. Whitney was originally selected fifth overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. The Panthers are Whitneys fourth NHL club, having previously suited up for the Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, and Edmonton Oilers. Odell Beckham Jr Jersey . A noon downpour turned the 2.25-mile, 13-turn circuit into a slippery strand of roadway, but Bourdais proved to be the best on rain tires. The French driver made it through the first two qualifying rounds and into the Fast Six. Antrel Rolle .Y. - HenrikLundqvist wasnt happy going into Game 6 against Montreal.SHENZHEN, China -- A day after Alexander Levy played a near-perfect 62 in the second round at the China Open -- the best 18-hole score of his career -- the Frenchman was happy just to get off the course with a 2-under 70 Saturday in pelting rain with gusting winds. That was solid enough to maintain a three-stroke lead over Alvaro Quiros of Spain heading into the final round. "It was tough to stay focused, but I kept my mind in good condition and played some good shots," Levy said. Levy, aiming for his first European Tour title, wasnt nearly as accurate as he was on Friday, when he holed a 20-foot putt for eagle and made eight birdies en route to setting a new course record at Genzon Golf Club. But he handled the nasty weather at the start of the third round and maintained his composure after bogeying Nos. 14 and 16, managing to avoid a third bogey with a 15-foot putt for par on the 18th. He has a 16-under total of 200. Levy knows he will face a lot more pressure on Sunday, even with a three-stroke cushion. Last year, he was tied with ErnieEls for the lead heading into the final round of the BMW International Open, but committed four bogeys in his last nine holes to slip to third. "I will be nervous, but because youre nervous doesnt mean you cant play well," he said. "Ill sleep nicely because Im tired. It was a long day with the weather and difficult golf course." Quiros has six European Tour titles to his credit but hasnt got a win -- or even a top-three finish -- since his title at the Dubai World Championship in November 2011. "If Alex plays really well then we might not be able to catch him," Quiros said. "It has been two-and-a-half years since I won so I have not had those feelings for a long time." Finlands Mikko Ilonen was four strokes back in third place after a 67, while Englands Tommy Fleetwood (67) and Spains Adrian Otaegui (71) were another stroke behind in a tie for fourth. A day after 15--year-old Chinese amateur Guan Tianlang failed to make the cut, another young homegrown talent, 18-year-old Li Haotong, shot a 67 to match the lowest score of the day and jump into joint eighth at 7 under. Stevie Brown Jersey. . With the leaders so far ahead, Li is playing for another goal -- a big payday. The golf club has pledged to double the purse for any Chinese player finishing in the top five. While Guan has received most of the attention in China after his breakthrough performance at last years Masters, where he became the youngest player to make the cut, Li is perhaps better poised to make an immediate impact on the game. Last year, he signed an endorsement deal with Nike and coped remarkably well against elite fields at the HSBC Champions and BMW Masters in his hometown of Shanghai, finishing tied for 39th and 42nd, respectively. And after practicing on the Genzon Golf Club course for the last two months, hes close to his first top-five finish. "Im very happy. I want to keep that name on the leaderboard," he said. Englands IanPoulter also shot a 67 Saturday to move up to equal 11th place. But Poulter said he was still smarting from a two-stroke penalty he incurred on the 13th hole Friday when he improperly measured his drop after hitting into the rough. He took a triple-bogey 8 on the hole, following a double bogey on the 12th. "I shouldnt be happy with the position Im in. I dropped five shots yesterday in two holes. Its unacceptable. Its disgraceful," he said. "I should be a lot closer to the lead, but thats golf. You cant have it perfect all the time." Third-ranked HenrikStenson would certainly agree. The Swede hasnt played his best since coming down with the flu earlier this week, and couldnt make up any ground on the leaders Saturday, falling 12 shots behind after shooting a 71. He needed a win here to take over the top ranking from TigerWoods -- a goal that now appears well out of reach. ' ' '

Blainville, Quebecs Aleksandra Wozniak reflects on working with her new coach and her preparation for Roland Garros in her personal blog on RDS. Dallas Mavericks Black Friday Jersey .ca and TSN.ca. Its been a few months since I officially began working with my coach Nathalie Tauziat. During my long absence from competition (due to my shoulder injury), it was my father - a former coach - who was by my side. Because I wasnt fully recovered and I hadnt had the opportunity to test my shoulder in game situations, my comeback in New Haven last August didnt appear wise. Tennis Canada then asked me to do a one-week trial in Florida with Nathalie shortly after the end of her stint with Eugenie Bouchard last October. We had our first experience working together two month later when Nathalie came to Boca Raton for the Fed Cup camp at Chris Everts Tennis Academy. And I felt good chemistry from the start - she made a great first impression. Under these new circumstances, I decided to continue my comeback, starting with the Shenzhen tournament and Melbourne qualifications. Then off to tournaments in Acapulco, Indian Wells and Miami. We get to know more during these tournaments while continuing my progress, which is still a big challenge after a long absence. Its an important adaptation for both the player and the coach. And Im glad I started this association. Its gone well and its helped me a lot - technically and strategically. As a former player - a World No. 3 and a finalist at Wimbledon in addition - she brings a lot of experience from the field. She brings me so much at all levels, including the right attitude to adapt, and we communicate really well. It was my father who taught me to play tennis. He taught me to recognize the feeling on the court and taught me the technique. Nathalie also works great on the same aspects, so I already felt comfortable with it. Even before the player-coach relationship, shes very friendly and open to working with anyone. She overcame many obstacles in her life and we share the same sense of perseverance. It takes character to achieve this level of competitiveness on the circuit. You have to fight every week and every game and keep a good attitude to remain at your best. Players like Maria Sharapova are successful because they have the attitude, character and they fight their challenges. Now were preparing for qualifying at Roland Garros. Im so happy to participate - I couldnt take part in my favorite Grand Slam last year because I was still undergoing rehabilitation. And I love the clay - my favorite playing surface! But I still have much work to do - like learning to slide at the right time, showing more patience and knowing when to play each type of ball. From a bigger viewpoint, Im still trying to find my game from before. Ive lost my feeling - my sense of anticipation and reaction - but now my bodys used to more tennis. Were working on the length of my ball, strategiesand my change of pace to have a more complete arsenal. Ive always been a complete player - thats to say I dont play only as flat as I can hit the ball early and make changes of pace. Its for these reasons that I was able to stay in the Top 50 in the past (as high as 21st in the world). By changing my pace and using an offensive style, I think I can beat highly-ranked players. Its important to have the as much strength as possible in this game. https://www.facebook.com/WozAlekshttp://www.aleksandrawozniak.com/Twitter @alekswoz Los Angeles Lakers Cyber Monday Jersey . Cilic leads the tour with 18 match wins this season. He improved to 3-1 against Anderson, the 2012 Delray winner. "These three weeks have been very long for me," said Cilic, the winner in Zagreb and runner-up last week in Rotterdam. "Im going to enjoy it for a while and have a little rest." The match was the first final in tournament history with two sets decided in tiebreakers. Anderson had 12 double faults.
